Trent Jenkins, guitarist, Scottsdale AZ
"The whole CD kicks a**! I loved it!

Product Description
The self-produced debut album from Phoenix-based guitarist Gene Faith, "Receiver" explores a variety of sounds, from the bouncy fusion of "Ascension" and the pop-grunge sound of "Slave", to the progressive-metal of "No Good For Your Soul" and "I Am Love". Influenced by bands such as Rush, Matchbox 20, and Queen, there's guitars-o-plenty on this album, as solid rock arrangements frame insightful and sometimes edgy lyrics. A solid debut, "Receiver" showcases an up-and-coming talent that deserves to be noticed.

There are many positive reasons for getting the complete Peer Gynt music, as opposed to just the two suites. In the first place, if you like singing, you get the vocal parts. There's also a lot of really fine and exciting music that's not included in the suites. On the other hand, if dialogue in Norwegian makes you crazy (there isn't really that much of it), you might want to stick with the more traditional excerpts. This performance of the complete score is excitingly detailed, and extremely well played and sung by all the participants. I enjoy hearing the music in both forms, depending on my mood; perhaps you will too. --David Hurwitz

This 1988 account from Herbert Blomstedt and the San Francisco Symphony is rich and dramatic. Here is a conductor with a real feel for the music, and in his hands Grieg's multimovement score shows its emotional depth. The reading is well paced and brilliantly played, and London's crew provides a high-impact recording, very forward and with excellent detail. --Ted Libbey

4 out of 5 stars A must for Grieg fans.......2001-06-04

Because Grieg is one of my favorite composers, I was delighted to get the complete incidental music to Ibsen's play and not just the standard Suites 1 and 2. Blomstedt and the San Francisco Symphony do a fine job of conveying the many moods of Grieg's masterpiece. Listeners need to be prepared to hear singing and dialogue in Norwegian, but its inclusion gives the performance an operatic feel. For those of you familiar with Suites 1 and 2, give a listen to "Peer Gynt Hunted by the Trolls", a highly dramatic work;then, listen to the solemnity of "Blessed Morn" and "Solveig's Cradle Song". I think this CD will enhance your enjoyment of Peer Gynt all the more.

4 out of 5 stars I fell in love with the voice.......1999-04-28

Not much of a vocal fan (I'm into Bach & Mozort intrumental) I was scanning through the titles of this CD for the well know Mountain King part. It's all good & very professional, but when I heard the voice of Mari-Anne Haeggander in the track Solveigs' Song I was bowled over and very much reconciled with vocal music.

She mix's a perfect technical mastery with a just enough human touch to make it reall. The tiny imperfections when her voice goes up a big interval make it just perfect. Ceclia Bartoli (singing Mozart) was my favorite, but now Mari-Anne is.

I'm now urgently looking for more of her recordings, without luck so far. Pleas help.

5 out of 5 stars An overlooked pop masterpiece.......2003-08-21

Jim Capaldi lived in Brazil for many years and was inevitably exposed to Brazilian music. But, having really experienced it and not merely sampled it, like Paul Simon and others, he was able to see (and hear) beyond the usual samba and rhythmic stuff. (In case you don't know, the recently released "Anna Julia", featuring George Harrison on guitar, is originally a Brazilian song.) On "Let The Thunder Cry", he wrote beautiful English lyrics for a Brazilian ballad and retitled it "Old Photographs". He was always a good lyricist and I can assure you he outdid the original. He also wrote a powerful rocker, "Favella Music", about the poor people who wander the streets of Brazil begging and thieving.

The other songs are typical pop stuff, but well done. I especially like the ballads "Warm" and "Child in The Storm" and the upbeat "Only Love". "Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" and "Bathroom Jane" are bonus tracks, they were not on the original album. All in all, this is a pop gem that deserves to be rediscovered, if only for the first five tracks I mentioned. Jim Capaldi deserves more credit than he usually gets as a solo artist and this is one of his best albums.

I couldn't stop grinning the first time I heard this CD. (In the shop at the time.)( probably looked a bit of a mad person, chuckling to myself) The songs were so absurd, you just had to laugh. great to listen to, in the car, but sometimes difficult in keeping to the speed limit.

5 out of 5 stars ITS HOT but..........2001-08-11

The new deal has made some nice moves on this ep, most notably for me were segues between live tracks, nice idea. i've never heard another band do it, I thought it was totally appropriate for tnd, live music that sounds like it came out of the studio. The problem is one of a personal decision of whether or not you want to experience the album in a fresh context. It will undoubtedly detract from the novelty of it. Great nonetheless, i couldnt resist, im a sucker for these dudes.

5 out of 5 stars Breakbeats and ever - changing bass lines.......2001-07-25

an astonishing fusionistic, extreme psychedelic dance groove that will shake the hell out of both jamband junkies and dance slaves alike. step into the wirl of ever-changing bass lines and breakbeats. this EP is a good preview of whats to come when they release their full album in september. if you havent heard these guys, you must check them out.

You will love this album. The Toy Dolls are one o the more amusing, creative, and crazy punk bands around. The lead singer has always sounded like he overdosed on helium...hard to believe, I know.

I have been listening to these guys for over a decade now, and I never get tired of them.

This album is worth the money just for the song: "I'M Gonna Be 500 Miles"

4 out of 5 stars Good later Toy Dolls record.......1999-03-29

This disc is much better than their previous few. Olga and the gang continue with a heavier sound than on their earlier records. Excellent sing-along power pop/punk!

The songs on this CD are very smart. Everyone, who loves the Toy Dolls will like this CD. Olga is a phantastic guitar player, so if you like sophisticated and technically precisely played solos, you should definitifely buy this album!

When I first got my copy of this disc,I guess I was maybe 'sort of' thrilled mostly because it was,I believe my 8th Hawkwind disc I ever bought.I was a tad blown away,at first by the cover, but seeing that it was,in fact an import I went ahead and bought it on the count that it was low-priced.True,it is pretty much a second rate compilation and it certainly IS cutting-room floor material.Maybe I just liked having a slightly different version of the tracks "Space Is Deep","You Shouldn't Do That" and "Silver Machine".You Hawkfans KNOW what I'm talking about, with the way that Hawkwind sometimes has like up to ten(10)different versions of certain songs. For die-hards(hee-hee Beavis, you said 'hard')ONLY.
