Product Description
Alert ! Alan LOO has arrived ! Accompanied by Alain BURGER, this musician from Eastern France keeps us glad with his delicate instrumental music, and compositions that are catchy as ever. His picturesque and intimate progressive rock is here as beautiful as it can get, a little in the style of Jean-Pascal BOFFO's works. Recorded in 2001, "Memories" is sometimes jazz-rock, at times a little more rock... Don't be a mere follower, just let this excellent guitarist's albums take you away.

A few decades ago nearly every country singer had at least one--often more--gospel albums in their catalog. Today, aside from gospel veteran Amy Grant, who balances the sacred and secular, and Randy Travis, that concept has long faded. For Alan Jackson, however, treating the musical past as present has been a way of life, as it is with these 15 timeless hymns from his youth. Recorded with just two acoustic guitars and a piano, it was originally a private Christmas present to his mother. The spare instrumentation is surprisingly robust behind his flawless readings of "I'll Fly Away," "Softly and Tenderly," "How Great Thou Art," "Are You Washed in the Blood?," and "The Old Rugged Cross," all as beguilingly unpretentious as any of his country hits. Instead of an all-star duet, wife Denise and daughters Mattie and Ali join in on "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus." In the end, what began as a private bequest becomes a moving, eloquent gift to Jackson's entire audience. --Rich Kienzle

5 out of 5 stars Precious Memories.......2007-07-18

For several months, I had been looking for a cd with many of the old hymns that I grew hearing and singing in curhch. I opened up dozens of cds on Amazon to listen to samples and just didn't find the "right" one until I heard Alan Jackson's "Precious Memories" cd. WOW! I'm not even a country music fan, but he sang every song in such a way that sweet, precious memories just filled my heart with joy. Each selection was done so simply and beautifully. I love it! slb

5 out of 5 stars You will love this album.......2007-06-27

This album by Alan Jackson is one of the most inspirational ones that I've ever purchased. The way Alan sings these classic hymns is timeless and touching. I've loved this album so much that I obtained copies for friends at church who have all said that I had no idea of how much they loved this album.

One thing that I will definately recommend to readers of this review- you MUST buy the companion DVD in which Alan Jackson performs these songs live at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The DVD includes 2 songs that weren't shown on the CMT presentation. Alan really gets the joint jumping during the renditions of "Are You Washed in the Blood/I'll Fly Away" The DVD is available through this website. Please get it!

2 out of 5 stars Get Randy Travis instead.......2007-06-24

Not bad, but I still thought a lot of it was over-instrumentalized and some of the timing/tempo was awkward (too slow and/or had lost the rhythm). Randy Travis' _Worship & Faith_ is less melodramatic and easier to sing with.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful .......2007-06-21

This is the first CD that I have purchased of Alan Jackson. I love country/bluegrass/gospel music.

This is an exceptional CD. It offers a great selection of songs which are sung superbly with sincere warmth. It is one of those Cd's that you can listen to while you are relaxing or just doing your housework.

Please Alan, give us some more gospel recordings like this soon.

5 out of 5 stars Very well done.......2007-06-04

After growing up in church and serving as church pianist for over 20 years, I feel the need to express my disappointment that the hymns are not sung very much nowadays. Today's church song leaders and choir directors prefer to have their congregations sing praise and worship choruses instead of traditional hymns from the hymn book. I'm not even sure that most young people have even heard many, if any, hymns. Worse, many people who do sing hymns don't sing them the way they're traditionally supposed to be sung. I was very pleased, therefore, when Alan Jackson recorded this CD. I saw his concert on TV, and immediately thereafter ordered the CD. Alan Jackson sings the hymns the way they were sung in church when I was growing up... the way they're supposed to be sung. If you ask me, this is worship at its best.

These were my "teen years" and I did not realize what good voices most of the singers had and how beautiful some of the songs were. These cds transport me back to "the good old days". I am surprised that I remember most of the songs. I really, really enjoy this music.

Until his untimely death, Jim Croce was a force to be reckoned with on radio playlists. Photographs & Memories repackages some of his best work. Romantic acoustic-oriented songs were his hallmark, and songs like "Time in a Bottle," were huge hits because of their easy sentimentality. "I Got a Name" was the singer as well-worn folk traveler, while "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and even "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" followed standard boogie chord progressions, albeit with Croce's softer rock feel. There wasn't much really separating the overt emotions of "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song" and "Operator" from his sap-dripping contemporaries, but there was just enough of an edge in Croce's warm voice to elevate his love songs to another level. Like a, oh, moderately priced wine, Croce remains a classic--accessible, affordable, and easy to enjoy. -- Steve Gdula

5 out of 5 stars Croce's best.......2007-01-12

This CD has all of what I consider to be Croce's best known songs on it and is really worth buying. The sound quiality is great and if you're a Croce fan or just want to check him out, this is the CD to buy. The only bad thing is that he's not around to put out more great tunes like those on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars A man lost in time........2006-05-10

Right after he died, he was everywhere on the radio. Since then he have disappear from the musical face of the earth. "Time in a Bottle", "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown","Don't Mess around with Jim" and "I got a name" are just the tip of this musical iceberg. His songs range from the touching "Photograph and Memories" to the fun hearthed "Car Wash Blues" and "Roller Derby Queen".

This album hits everything that you need from one of the Great Singer/Songwriter of the 70s. There are a lot of imposters out there, this is really the top of the chart and the only Croce ablum you need. The tragic is that his career was cut so short by his untimely death.

5 out of 5 stars You Don't Mess Around With Jim.......2006-05-09

As with any greatest hits album you get someone else's idea of greatest hits. Yet if you only intend to buy one Jim Croce album you can not go wrong with this one. At least it has my favorites. In case you have not heard Jim before, the album is a mixture of fast and slow paced songs; yet all of them have his signature voice and style. These are his later recordings and were released just before he was killed in a plane crash. You may also want to pick up am album of his earlier recordings to see how he progresses through the years.

4 out of 5 stars I wouldn't listen to the fact that he was genius.......2006-01-29

I'm probably like most guys who weren't around when Croce made his music. I know a handful of hits and thought the rest of this would be pleasant but bland folkish pop. (The disc is actually my wife's.) Once I found the time to sample this, I was pleasantly surprised for the most part. Croce seems able to both write convincing uptempo pop-rockers as well as melancholy balladry with an eye for the telling detail that marks the best lyricists.

HIGHLIGHTS:
"Bad,Bad Leroy Brown" was a man 'meaner than a junkyard dog' who meets his comeuppance when he dallies with the wrong man's wife. "Operator" is told stream of consciousness style..Croce trying to call and make amends with the woman who ran off with his best friend and faltering again and again ("Operator/oh could you help me place this call/'cause i can't read the number that you just gave me/There's something in my eyes/You know it happens every time/I think about the love that I thought would save me..") "Rapid Roy" combines Croce's musical attempt at an acoustic rendering of the classic Chuck Berry riff with a character study of an ex moonshine runner turned racer. Croce's wit is apparent here. ("He got a tattoo on his arm that says "Baby"/He got another one that just say "Hey") "Time in a Bottle" is a transcendent expression of love that deserves every bit of the airplay it gets. Anyone who argues this is "sappy" is devoid of heart. "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues" is rapid fire wordplay with a fantastic opening line. ("Well, i had just got out from the county prison/Doin' 90 days for non-support..") It's a shaggy dog tale of a man trying to pick up the pieces at a thankless job. "I Got a Name" is a classic plea for recoginition of self-worth amid the sea of people that is our world. "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" is another catchy tale of a tough guy being done in. Despite repeating the theme of "Leroy Brown" more or less, it's still a keeper. "Lover's Cross" is Croce's refusal to become a martyr for the sake of a woman.

LOWS:
"These Dreams" is a great lyric about breaking up ("Once we were lovers/But that was long ago/We lived together then/And now we do not even say hello..") but the melody comes off like an attempt to re-write "Time in a Bottle". "Roller Derby Queen" suffers from the same fate, sounding like a carbon copy of "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" musically. The lyric's also not terribly memorable.

BOTTOM LINE:
I've underestimated Croce. "Rapid Roy" and "Lover's Cross" are likely to become favourites of mine with more play, and I already knew I loved the "radio stuff" (Operator,You Don't Mess Around with Jim,Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Time in a Bottle) A nice collection from an underrated singer-songwriter.

5 out of 5 stars Super Singer/Songwriter!.......2005-12-24

When Billy Joel wrote "Only the Good Die Young" Jim Croce could have easily made the list of the greats called back to God's house in the prime of their careers. Photographs and Memories Jim Croce's Greatest Hits is still to this date a big seller. This was his first Hit's CD. Jim was just scratching the surface of being a star. By producing 8 top 40 hits and released 3 #1 albums in a 2 year span, TV appearances, radio talk shows and a cartoon version of Bad Bad Leroy Brown (which can be seen on his DVD "Have You Heard Jim Croce Live" a very likeable artist. Could you imagine what this guy could have done if his career was able to continue? Great collection of hits.

5 out of 5 stars Barbra Streisand: Memories (1981).......2005-08-18

In November of 1981, Barbra Streisand released her twenty-seventh album entitled MEMORIES. This album is actually another greatest hits compilation, her third greatest hits package if you count them one by one. This is a greatest hits compilation with the inclusion of two new songs that seem to have fit this album perfectly.

MEMORY
New song. This song is actually the theme song to the Broadway musical play, CATS. This is such a beautiful song and Barbra sings it so beautifully.

YOU DON'T BRING ME FLOWERS (Duet with Neil Diamond) (Duet version)
From the album BARBRA STREISAND'S GREATEST HITS VOLUME 2 (1978). Original version from the album SONGBIRD (1978). Great song.

MY HEART BELONGS TO ME
From the album STREISAND SUPERMAN (1977). Amazing song.

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
From the album STREISAND SUPERMAN (1977). Not a favorite, but still a good song.

NO MORE TEARS (ENOUGH IS ENOUGH) (Duet with Donna Summer) (Single Version)
Original version from the album WET (1979). 12" Version from Donna Summer's albums ON THE RADIO: GREATEST HITS VOLUMES 1 & 2 (1979) & THE DANCE COLLECTION (1987). This song is just the best Diva duet I have ever heard. I wish that Madonna & Cher would team up for the second-best Diva duet.

COMIN' IN AND OUT OF YOUR LIFE
New song. Great song.

EVERGREEN
From the original motion picture & motion picture soundtrack A STAR IS BORN (1976). A beautiful song. This is such a beautiful song.

LOST INSIDE OF YOU (Duet with Kris Kristofferson)
From the original motion picture & motion picture soundtrack A STAR IS BOWN (1976). This is another beautiful song, but I think that Kris Kristofferson needs to stick to acting, rather than sing. Don't get me wrong, Kris' voice is not bad, but I like him better as an actor than a singer.

THE LOVE INSIDE
From the album GUILTY (1980). Not bad.

THE WAY WE WERE
From the album THE WAY WE WERE (1974). From the original motion picture & motion picture soundtrack THE WAY WE WERE (1974). Another beautiful song.

MEMORIES is another album that all Barbra Streisand fans should have by now. If not, then make sure you buy this album because it is very enjoyable. I really do enjoy hearing this album because it is one of Barbra's best, so take my advice and buy this album. I promise that you will not regret it. If you do regret it, then I can say that I tried.

5 out of 5 stars Memories of a Fantasic Voice.......2005-06-06

Barbra Streisand's rendition of Memory is by far the best song ever song. I only wish the Video was released in the US. Barbra your FANTASTIC.

4 out of 5 stars Streisand for Those Who Don't Like Streisand.......2003-11-09

Let's get this straight up front. I don't like Streisand much; either her songs or her politics. It amazes me that people would pay hundreds of dollars for tickets to a concert of hers, even if she rarely gives concerts. That being said, this is a great album that has some beautiful songs and is very listenable. (It was given to me; I didn't buy it.) Several reviewers said there are too many repeats from other albums, but if you don't own any other albums of Streisand's, this is a good one to start with. The first song (Memory) and the last (The Way We Were) are two of her best efforts and songs you can listen to over and over without getting tired of them. The duet with Neil Diamond (You Don't Bring Me Flowers Any More) is also a gorgeous song and Diamond and Streisand sound great together. This album surprised me as I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. In good conscience I can't give it 5 stars because I think there are many better singers and better albums out there. Barbra gives it her all, but sometimes I think she overdoes it and gets too loud, especially noticable on "Comin' in and Out of Your Life". I think she does better on slower, softer songs. The cover art is nice too and shows what an attractive women she is in spite of her rather large nose.

3 out of 5 stars A rehash, but a good rehash........2003-06-10

All of the songs on MEMORIES, a love song compilation, are first-rate, however there seems to be little reason why any fan would need to own it now. Barbra had won over a whole new legion of pop fans with the phenomenal success of 1980's GUILTY, but was working on the film YENTL full time by 1981 and didn't have time to record a follow up release. Columbia wanted to release something, so they decided to release a basically revamped version of the multi-platinum GREATEST HITS, VOLUME TWO, and get Barbra in the studio to record two new songs to reel in her long time fans.

The strategy worked: MEMORIES hit the Top Ten and reached Quintuple Platinum status in sales, but it irritated her longtime fans who had to buy material they already owned on other albums just to get the new songs. For the record, the two new tracks both rank among her finest work. The hit single "Comin' In and Out Of Your Life" (#11 Pop, #2 Adult Contemporary) is a sentimental classic, and Barbra's stunning rendition of "Memory" is the definitive recording of the phenomenal CATS theme. Also, MEMORIES does spotlight a couple terrific album tracks ("New York State Of Mind," "The Love Inside") that causal fans may not have been familiar with, and contains a previously unreleased solo recording of "Lost Inside Of You," which is superior to the original duet version from the A STAR IS BORN soundtrack.

But three of these ten tracks were making their third appearance on a Streisand album, and four of the cuts had just been released GREATEST HITS, VOLUME TWO a scant three years before. Now that "Comin' In and Out Of Your Life" and "Memory" are available elsewhere, there is no reason that anyone but the most casual of fans would need to own this album. The material is great and the photos of the front and back covers are beautiful, but you can basically find everything here on other albums that provide a better value.

5 out of 5 stars Talented.......2002-07-10

There is no one who can compare to this talented singer. She is one of the best natural singers that I have ever heard with a style all of her own. She is simply wonderful. Her songs have such warmth and feeling. The songs on this particular cd are some of her best work.

Album Description

Italian six-piece Lacuna Coil are one of the hardest working & rapidly progressing gothic metal outfit of our times. Their dual-vocal approach featuring the heavenly voice of Cristina Scabbia juxtaposed with the harsh style of Andrea Ferro will appeal to fans of The Gathering, Theatre Of Tragedy & Nightwish. Unleashed Memories also includes last year's mini-CD, 'Halflife', as a bonus. Bonus tracks, 'Halflife', 'Trance Awake', 'Senzafine', 'Hyperfast', & 'Stars'. Century Media. 2001.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This cd is AMAZING! .......2007-06-07

This is Lacuna Coil's best cd. The newer fans that discovered them from Comalies and Karmacode wont appreciate this cd. This cd isnt as polished and radio friendly as their newer cds. Cristina's voice is soo powerful and her lyrics pierce your soul. All the choruses are soo full of emotion. Not a single bad song on this cd. My favorites are: To Live is to Hide, Cold Heritage, Distant Sun, 1.19, Wave of Anguish, Half Life, and Stars. This cd needs multiple listens in order for it to fully grab you.

3 out of 5 stars Great Vocals with Metal- Note Worthy Band.......2007-05-23

If you like Evanescence, and female led metal, then you will probably like Lacuna Coil. I stumbled on this band on an internet radio site featuring metal bands, and was immediately interested. I ordered Unleashed Memories the same day and just finished listening it to twice through. I generally believe you should listen a few times before writing a review, but this album immediately strikes you.

This band has much of what I love in rock music, metal with strong and varied vocals, infused electronica and lots of tempo changes. There are 2 vocalists on this album, and although there isn't much overlapping of the 2 voices, they can be heard at times together complimenting each other. Why more bands don't use multiple overlapping vocals, I don't know, but this is what makes this band special. 3 stars only because I think some of the rhythms could be just a bit more interesting and varied and I just didn't get enough of the heavy metal sounds. There really is nothing groundbreaking here. The vocals are also a bit too blended for my taste, Cristina's voice, although beautiful has a new agey quality and almost sounds like Enya fronting a rock band.

Most of the tracks have metal influences, but there isn't very much of the heavy thrashing guitar riffs. Some might find this more attractive because the pummeling sounds tend to drown out Cristina's beautiful voice. I personally would appreciate more metal in what is being labeled a power metal band, and a bit less of the harmonious vocals and symphonic ambient sounds that pervade some of the tracks. Don't let me mislead you here, this album is not soft rock, it is edgier and you probably need to be a hard rock fan to really enjoy it.

Note there are 15 tracks on this CD if you have the version with the bonus EP tracks. "Sensafine" is repeated in the EP additions and both tracks are in Italian and is one of the better songs as the 2 vocals are more integrated with the guitar riffs. All of the remaining tracks are in English. Track 2, "To Live is to Hide" features both vocalists with some overlap and it's the kind of song you might expect to hear on mainstream radio. Track 5, "When a Dead Man Walks"' seems to be an attempt at stronger rock, but again the vocal harmonies sound at times like Abba. Even the male vocals are too watered down to make a believable metal song. In track 6 "1.19", Andrea the male vocalist, gets in some screaming and harsher vocals but they are short lived. This is however one of the heavier tracks and has a nice guitar section about midway through.

I will purchase their 2006 album Karmacode, which actually gets a better review on [...]. This CD is good to have in your collection, but not one of those albums that you can listen too a hundred times and just keep wanting more.

the halflife ep included. Check it out if you can get it cheap and

1 out of 5 stars Not too good..........2007-03-02

I'm bemused as to why almost everyone put a good review on this CD. Cristina's vocals are probably the worst I've heard in any other LC album. Most of the time it just sounds like she wants to get the damn CD over with. The lyrics are ridiculous in some spots, such as when Cristina sings the line "I'm a loser" five monontonous times, and just the overall album doesn't vary much at all. All the songs sound alike. This album let me down.

5 out of 5 stars A CD that truly keeps on giving.......2006-03-20

This is my first Chris Rice CD that I have ever owned but after many of his songs have been on the radio for years I took a chance on a purchase and I am completely satisfied. This is truly a CD that keeps on giving! The words and different song styles combines with excellent vocals make it a great listen to wake up to in the morning, or fall asleep to at night. You truly feel God's presence and peace when listening to this CD, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Short Term Memories.......2005-11-28

I am not going to review each and every song on this CD... suffice to say that the CD is wonderful. If you are a Chris Rice fan , this is a must have, and if you are not yet a fan, this would be a great place to start.
God bless!

4 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2005-09-09

This is a very enjoyable 'best of' collection by Chris Rice. He combines solid Christian lyrics with a pleasant mellow sound.

One song on here that is very good and is a challenge to Christians is "Go Light Your World." His admonition to go and make a difference to those who don't know Christ is particularly good. Another one that I had never heard before is "Mama Prays." It is one that should really remind parents of the importance of praying for their children.

There are several other very good songs and none that I dislike. Three of the songs in this collection are also on his 'Snapshots: Live and Fan Favorites' CD. Those are the following: 'Deep Enough to Dream,' 'Cartoons,' and 'Come to Jesus'.

For anyone who has children of any age, 'Cartoons' is a must have song. It will provide lots of entertainment and fun to the young and young at heart.

I would recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing.......2005-07-10

I am 26 yrs old now but back when I was in my early teens I had the privilege to meet Chris. I went to a private Christian school and for 3 yrs in a row he was our Youth Pastor for the yearly state convention. Every nite for 4 days he would preach to us and perform. At the end he would sell his tapes. Back then Go Light Your World was known as the Candle Song. I don't think he had been signed yet to a record deal. One year he was even the a judge for the choir competitions. This is a man who truly believes in the message he is preaching and every song he sings will touch your soul. I would recommend buying every one of his cds because you will never want to listen to anything else ever again.

4 out of 5 stars YES!!!.......2005-02-22

This is a great "best of" album, and fits right in with any good Christian Contemporary music. If you like slow music, you shouldn't pass by this awesome album.
I bought Short Term Memories 3 months ago and I love it.
I've been listening to a lot harder stuff recently like Switchfoot, Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline, but I'd heard "Cartoons" on the radio and I thought "maybe this'll be fun".
It has a lot less crazy songs than I expected, so if you like Audio A or Newsboys you might wanna start with Cartoons and then listen to the slower stuff.
I don't usually like slow Christian music but I make an exception for this album.

5 out of 5 stars Great comedy CD!.......2007-06-25

This guy is funny as hell! The language and subject matter is very mature, so he's not for everyone. The jokes are great and very well delivered. A lot of it is self-deprecating, which he does without being annoying (not easy to do, apparently).

This is a CD you will listen to over and over and over. I keep it in my car and listen to it on all long trips.

So ... where's the next one?

5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2007-05-14

The CD has many memorable lines in which you will recite over and over again. Puts you in a comical mood everytime you listen to it.

Is it Sexual? Sometimes err umm, all the time.
Is it Vulgar? It can be.
Does it say what you have thought? Probably and you need help.

5 out of 5 stars A natural comedian.......2006-05-06

Sex is a ubiquitous subject for comedians & usually I find it extremely tiresome. This whole cd is pretty much about sex, however I was unable to breath at times due to laughing so much. His style & delivery is as good as it gets, a very natural comic.

5 out of 5 stars Elvis on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-20

Elvis is a man possessed in this rockin' classic. You can tell he woke up out of his Hollywood-induced coma provided by his manager and hit the ground running, launching his late 1960s and early 1970s revival and re-established himself as a viable musical artist again after spending years recording average movie soundtracks.

Where can you start and where can you stop. These songs are excellent from top to bottom and you can feel the energy just oozing out from everywhere. It makes you want to just get up and dance and crank the volume up all the way! I would recommend this album to anyone who loves raw and unplugged rock.

Elvis just rocked big time and sang his heart out in this -- reviving his image. What more can you say?

5 out of 5 stars 68 Comeback Special-Elvis.......2007-06-14

I was completely pleased with the purchase

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to NBC and the Elvis Presley Special!.......2007-01-08

This is a two CD set by Elvis Presley devoted to what is popularly known as "The '68 Comeback Special". It was a television special that aired on NBC in 1968. The "comeback" part refers to where Elvis' career was prior to the special. He had been making a lot of bad movies, and he hadn't had a Top Ten hit since "Crying in the Chapel" three years earlier. The special featured a mixture of production numbers and live performances in front of a small studio audience.

Disc 1 begins with the show's opening production number, a medley of "Trouble" and "Guitar Man". Then we get the songs from the "stand up" performances. No, this isn't Elvis doing stand up comedy. It is a live performance of Elvis singing some of his biggest hits with a full orchestra. There were two of these "stand up" shows, and the CD features the "best" performances from them. For the most part, these are great, but "Blue Suede Shoes" doesn't really work with the big arrangement it's given here. Next, all nine minutes of the production number called the "Gospel Medley" is featured. Then we get "Memories", which was the second single released from the show. Next, "A Little Less Conversation", which was recorded for the show but not used (a remix of this song became a big hit just a few years ago). Then the production number called the "Road Medley" is featured, appearing for the first time in all it's 15 minute glory. The first disc closes with "If I Can Dream", the great first single from the special.

Disc 2 leads off with three songs from the "dressing room rehearsals", where Elvis and his friends work out what they want to do for the "sit down" shows. Speaking of which, one of the complete "sit down" shows is next, and makes up the bulk of the disc. There were two "sit down" shows filmed, and the other one is featured on a CD called Tiger Man. These shows were designed to feature Elvis in an intimate setting, playing songs with his buddies and joking around. The instrumentation is sparse, with Elvis on guitar supported by his original guitarist Scotty Moore, his first drummer D.J. Fontana (banging on a guitar case), his pal Charlie Hodge on guitar and his movie stunt double Lance LeGault on tambourine. Elvis is clearly having fun here, and it's a real treat to listen to, mistakes and all. The CD ends with the version of "If I Can Dream" that Elvis sang live to end the show.

This set features some of the best performances of Elvis' career. He sounds invigorated throughout, and his enthusiasm shines through to the listener. This is truly a "must get" for any Elvis fan.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2006-06-02

At 28 I discovered Elvis and I'm hooked now. I had never seen him perform "live" before so I rented the '68 Special DVD. I was blown away - - especially by the uncut sitdown shows on the '68 Special Edition DVD set.

I did some research and learned about this CD set and I had to get it! If you're not an Elvis fan before you listen to this, you will be afterwards.

Disc 1 is great - I love all of the previously unreleased material that didn't make it into the aired special but the real treasure is disc 2 - the fist sit down show. Elvis demonstrates his vocal ability - he can go from a raw "One Night" to a smooth ballad - "Memories". I also love the fact that he really rocks out on the guitar. The "oh yeahs" and the "one more times" from his original bandmates - Moore and Fontana - make this CD even better. They are all having a blast! This is an imtimate look at the "real" Elvis - a downhome, funny guy who loves making music. You really feel like you are listening to an informal jam session in one of their homes.

I will say, that if you've never seen the '68 Special with the uncut sit down shows you really need to. You can appreciate the banter between bandmates a little more once you actually see what they are laughing about.

All in all Elvis this proves why Elvis was and always will be The King!

4 out of 5 stars Elvis 68 almost the best he ever got.......2006-05-28

It's late I should be sleeping, but I made a mistake. I tried, I really tried. I went to listen the 68' Elvis comeback special on Cd, released in 1998 as Memories: The '68 Comeback Special. Simply listen to it, and return it to the library, but I became distracted by track 14, and then track 16. Let's limit ourselves there.

"Trying to Get to You" stretches far back, 12 years worth to the beginning as Elvis explains earlier how they used to record. His yearn for the past almost makes it, and he has just the right ingredients in Scotty Moore on guitar to his left, and a mock gospel setting propelling him on, most notably in Charlie Hodge, saying things like "you got it!" The intimate crowd has Elvis feeling relaxed and comfortable and the growl in his voice shows why he truly was one of the great (the first?) rock singers. "One more, One more, one more time," he pleads for another verse.

"Sounds like your goin' up." Response: "Aww get dirty baby". On "Baby What You Want Me To Do," Elvis begins again, starting all over again, especially next to "Tryin to Get To You," where he went backwards. It's the simplest 3 chord pattern, but Elvis tears up on guitar adding just the right oomph, a malicious inflection until he rises in unison with a series of vocal "hup, hup, hup".

The early Sun recordings of Elvis, recorded with Sam Phillips were so good, that the '68 comeback special can only fruitlessly grasp to gather it's magic. In that sense, this is a disappointment, but Elvis was never to sound any better. Skip the over produced first side that includes one to many medleys and comes across as soulless.

3 out of 5 stars eh, Coldplay-lite.......2007-03-10

This band is just ok. I enjoy The Man Who, but all other albums I've purchased have just been so-so, this one included.

3 out of 5 stars Actually about 1 or 2 memories.......2006-10-03

2 1/2

Nowhere near as memorable or effective as some of there better stuff, this mostly mechanical effort offers half baked pop concoctions, mostly of the annoying, catchy, pseudo-eclectic variety, as if any subtlety whatsoever has been lost on the band in favor of a straight and narrow, approach. While the band was never shy of talent for catchy songs, most of these 12 memories fade rather quick from underdevelopment. Thankfully we are seldom reminded of a more relaxed, assured band, a far cry from the tacky, lazy upbeat majority of this disc.

5 out of 5 stars Great Breakup Album!.......2006-07-29

Quintessential Travis. Soulful lyrics, heartbreaking melodies, lovely narratives, also lots of references to losing lovers but not in a depressing way. Also, the twelfth memory is a hidden track! Great album when you're in the mood to reminise about past loves without the urge to jump out of a window.

5 out of 5 stars Their Best Yet..........2006-05-12

For what is a highly political record,Travis come out on top with "12 memories".The opening tracks standout as having a certain chart-appeal,both "quicksand" and "the beautiful occupation" give a nod to the sound of late beatles. As does the single "re-offender"although this is a dark tale of domestic violence."Peace the f**k out" is reminicent of a Lennon political tune.It sounds as if the great man himself wrote it...and it seems to have the same influence on the mind."How many hearts" is yet another beatlesque song, but thats expected with a brit-rock band."Paperclips" slows things down and "somewhere else" sounds like a sure-fire hit single...with catchy hooks and lyrics, yet another song that reminds us of the original fab 4.The album continues with "love will come through" and "mid-life krysis" telling their own tales. Then my personal favourite "happy to hang around",yet another catchy tune and the beautiful sound of a band full of confidence. The album ends with "walking down the hill" and a hidden track "some sad song" both are kind of meloncholy but good songs nonetheless. This album,i believe,is travis' best yet,its full of good pop tunes about love and the pressures of life.A fantastic record !

5 out of 5 stars Awesome album.......2006-04-01

For those who only see Travis as "the man who" then you'll be disapoointed. But great bands grow and their sound change with their growth and this what I hear in this album. Their strongest effort since the man who. This album deserves more than 4 stars, 4 1/2 is usually the mark of a great one on amazon and this belongs at that level.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD........2007-02-21

I bought this DVD/CD back in 2003 when it came out, and I cant count how many times I've watched it. It gives insight to the Used's past, their rise to fame, a live show, and a funny hidden clip. The live CD contains unreleased demo's like "Just a Little" and a piano piece by Bert, "Sometimes I Just Go For It." Must buy for anyone interested in the band.

3 out of 5 stars READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-03-19

O.K. I bought Maybe Memories at fye because that is the only place i could find it. (...)How insane is that! I love the Used so i had to have it so i looked at the conetents and it says live footage,videos,2 making the videos, and a documentory and a CD with unreleased tracks and live songs. So i think well this will be worth it. So i watch it and the documenaty portion is amazing with home videos, watching them record and Bert with his shirt off!!SWEET! So i am all excited for the live part and it is 3 songs!!! THATS IT!!! Granted they were amazing but still!!!!Bullet in a bible is 2 hours of live GREEN DAY and interviews and stuff (...)So now in thinking the making of the video is gonna be great and it sucks! They barly interview the band! The second one is even worse! So i watch the videos and they are good but come on ive already seen them before. The C.D. only has 10 songs on it only 2 live and some unrealsed, but only 10. I reccomend this only if you are a hardcore Used fan (...). The only thing that is keeping me from HATING fye right now is that they are in partnership with FUSE T.V. FUSE rocks!! I love Stevens Untitled Rock Show!

5 out of 5 stars Surprising!!!.......2005-12-24

No, I don't mean surprising as in The Used put out a good CD (They always do :)) But most live CD's suck. This one was great!!! They are very good live and it is also very interesting hearing their stories. Actually...I'm gonna have to say they are the best live band I've ever seen. I've seen Underoath, A Static Lullaby, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and many, many more. So I think that my opion is very unbiest (Even though The Used is my favorite band)
Also the extra tracks are really great especially "Just A Little" When I heard this song I was astounded they left it off their debut album. I think this song is amazing! It's got a great flow to it and is still a very heavy song. The screaming in it is absolutely outstanding and the chorus is just so darn catchy.
Another song that is very good on this album is "Alone This Holiday" It breaks the sometimes ritual standard of Christmas songs by providing an upbeat tune (with the occasional breakdown chorus) with less than upbeat lyrics.
"Sometimes I Just Go For It" Wow! My brother first played this song to me and asked me to guess who it was. I said "Beethoven" and he said "Nope, Bert McCracken." I was stunned. It might not be the kind of music you like if you are into The Used usual stuff but it's still fantastic.
The DVD is hilarious and the live performance on it is unbelievable.
This is a must-have for any The Used fan. If you don't know who The Used is you should definitely buy their self-titled debut album. Just go to the search bar here on Amazon.com, type The Used, scroll down to music in the bar next to the word Search in the upper left corner, then search and click on the CD of The Used. Listen to some of their music and if you like it BUY THIS!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best live cd ever!!!!.......2005-12-08

This is one of the best live albums that I have heard ever. The lead singer dosen't need anything done to his voice. He is a really good singer live. and the other tracks on the cd are good too. like alone this hoilday is really good, bulimic (home demo), sometimes I just go for it is really good. That is just some of the good songs on this album. The dvd is really good it tells the life story of where they all came from. And it has the making if there videos. Hope this helps someone.

4 out of 5 stars A good combo...buuuuuut..........2005-09-30

I have been a fan of The Used for a very long time now and I must admit...this cd is awesome. However it's lacking something or rather...it needs to lack something. At the end of the DVD there's a huge fat lady butt-naked! It really disgusts me! Other than that, the DVD is really worth it. The CD is one of the best things that they have put out. Believe me, If you are a fan of these guys, buy this! Even if you are just starting to like them...buy this! It's really awesome! I had the priveledge of seeing these guys live...absolutley magical!
