Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Cry Of A Tiny Babe.......2005-12-23

Cry Of A Tiny Babe is a great modern day Christmas song except it is marred by these lines written by Bruce: Joseph comes to Mary with his hat in his hand, Says "forgive me I thought you'd been with some other man", She says "what if I had been - but I wasn't anyway and guess what I felt the baby kick today". Here Bruce rewrites history by turning a chaste young woman in a culture that highly values sexual purity into a contemporary teenager with no scruples. Bruce - just because you can't keep your Canadian bacon in your pants don't try to justify immorality.

5 out of 5 stars Another fine release.......2004-08-26

Typically eclectic collection of Mr. Cockburn's music, with lyrics that demand attention and melodies filtered through his own unique sensibilities.

One of the Best Ones and Child of the Wind are terrific songs, but, if you ask me, Cry of a Tiny Babe may be one of Mr. Cockburn's best ever. Touching, thoughtful, and riveting, it recasts the Greatest Story Ever Told in modern terms--in all its and our heartbreak and faith.

5 out of 5 stars What a unique artist.......2004-05-08

Bruce is truly one of a kind!!

He makes the songs his own and I'm glad I discovered his music ten years ago. I have seven of his CD's.

I like "Indian Wars" and "Soul of Man" and "Dream Like Mine"

Cockburn is a refreshing voice in a confusing forest of commercialized music.

5 out of 5 stars One of His Best.......2004-04-23

This is a great Bruce Cockburn CD. His voice sounds great, not robotic like his early - mid 80s records tend to be, and the organ florishes are a nice touch. I own about 6 of his CDs and this, along with Breakfast in New Orleans, is one of my favorites.

This CD is reminiscent of one of my all time favorite CDs, Dylan's "Desire", in terms of it's storytelling Americana fashion.

The sound quality on this CD is great also. Buy it and enjoy.

....that's how good this and Charity of Night is....I'm a long time Cockburn fan....I wore out a cassette of Dancing In the Dragon's Jaw longer ago than I care to remember. The only reason a couple of the tracks on this cd may appear a little weak is because the rest are so strong, musically and lyrically. This man gives the best live performance of any songwriter/musician/singer I've seen. If you get the chance, don't miss him. The caliber of musicians he surrounds himself with is a testament to this (these guys don't sign on with just anyone). I've never been much on listening to anyone in the arts use their fame to espouse their world view, but Bruce Cockburn keeps your ear with his music first, and I've always found the way he balances his faith with the rest of his message facinating. Buy this and Charity of Night...and share them with your children and grandchildren.
