Five stars for Mr. Jones and his Cow Conspiracy..........2002-05-04
Spencer Jones is currently on tour backing Paul Kelly - the Australian equivalent of Bob Dylan, in my opinion - and both the man and the band are shamefully underappreciated in the U.S.
Probably the closest I can come to describing this disc is Tom Waits meets Tom Petty meets late Beatles. Very strong power pop riffs combined with literate lyrics make this a disc not likely to leave my CD player any time soon. Steve Earle/Uncle Tupelo/ Jayhawks fans take note.
I bought it from Mr. Jones himself and wish that I'd heard it before I met him - I'd shake his hand again for making such a hugely likeable CD. Here's hoping he keeps 'em coming.
