This is one of the BEST cds I've ever heard. Why this guy does'nt get more air play is sad. Wing Tip Shoes smokes. Wish I Had A Girl Who Walked Like , HOT. There is so much talent. More people need to hear this guy. This is a cd that is just straight fun to listen to. BUY IT!!!!!!!

My good buddy BP sent me this little jewel on cassette back in '88, telling me that the promo for this album stated,". . .not just another skinny, longhaired kid with a guitar!" I think he also told me that Henry was J.C. Mellencamp's cousin. With that hype aside, I found this album to be a great collection of what I would refer to as garage style rock with Henry's killer "whiskey soaked" vocals. I loved his vocal banter on "Wish I Had a Girl," and thought the crunchy guitar chords and background babe vocals made it the perfect car cruisin' hit. I loved "Hands On the Radio" as an example of how those of us who grew up in the 70's got all of our new music from Casey Casem's Top 40. All of the other songs on this album are solid, if not as spectacular as the first three cuts. This is a perfect album to crank up while cruising with friends or cranking things up at a backyard BBQ. "Check it out, Leroy!"

Great Debut From Henry Lee Summer.......2005-02-17

Henry Lee Summer's debut album is great. The opening song, "Wish I Had A Girl", was the big hit single, but there's plenty more where that one came from. When this album came out, Summer was often compared by critics to John "Cougar" Mellencamp, but a good listen reveals that anyone who compares the two belongs in a mental institute. In fact, their voices are totally different. Summer uses much less folk instrumentation than Mellencamp was using at the time, so the rights of people who compare the two are not automatically coextensive with those of people who see each of them as unique. Check this one out and hear it for yourself.

Danielle Don't.... fail to buy this album!.......2001-12-14

There isn't a song on this album that I don't like! Hands on the Radio sums about a whole lot of my life. Three of the songs (Danielle Don't, I'll Wait for You, and oh, geez, I can't recall the name of the other one) are some of the greatest break-up songs of all time. I remember when I Wish I Had A Girl was on continuous play on MTV. But that's not even the best song on the album. They're all great. Wing Tip Shoes? My theme song for every job I ever had! It's like this guy crawled inside my head and wrote songs for every emotion! Great artist. Great album. Must have!

A century of British art songs to delight those who love them.......2006-06-26

These 53 songs have been collected by Naxos from their extensive acquisitions from Collins Classics, and perhaps other British sources now out of business. There's a steady cottage industry, year after year, producing the typical English art song, which is usually based on folk songs, but even in more modern idioms is profuondly conservative and nostaligic. Half these songs, not to mention half the composers, are totally unknown to American audiences, but the familiar names of Vaughan Williams and Britten represent high quality, and the lesser lights, such as Warlock and Quilter, are mainstays in this repertoire.

I'd challenge all but the most addicted listener to make it through more than ten songs at a sitting, and many of these pieces are tepid, offering comfort rather than inspiration. The singers are among the best, but Graham Johnson and Steuart Beford, who do most of the accompaniments, are lackluster. I know that won't be a popular comment, yet if you compare any of these songs with rendiitons done by Janet Baker, John Shirley-quirk, and most recently Bryn Terfel and Ian Bostridge, you immediately notice how much more intensity and drama is pesent than htis colleciton reveals.

Captures Henry Lee's live performances wonderfully!.......2004-08-15

For those of you who have had the pleasure of seeing Henry Lee Summer perform live than you know that his stuio albums have never ever captured that energy and joy of this hoosier performer.

These live tracks come as close as one can get to catching Henry Lee's fun and enthusiasm and packaging. Really, they are great and quite remarkable.

Finally, HLS has released a live album! I've always felt nothing could capture Hank's energy except seeing him live. The album is awesome. I've been a fan for 15 yrs and have seen him in concert so many times, I can't count them on my fingers and toes. I would highly recommend this album for all his fans and future ones. There's more than one awesome singer from Southern Indiana!

I saw the box set last night, bought it and have listened to nothing else since! I love this CD! I have seen Henry Lee in concert four times, listening to these CDs brought back all the emotions you feel at his shows. His shows are amazing! This CD set has captured the essence of the Henry Lee Experience! I have been a fan for over twelve years, I think this is one of the best CDs he has!(And this is from listening just one day! )

It's Henry Lee - need I say more?.......1999-07-02

I've not heard "Smoke & Mirrors" yet, but it's Henry Lee so I love it already! I spent years in Indianapolis rockin' in the audience wherever Henry Lee was playing, and do I miss it! Wish he would go "national" - or at least come out here to Virginia! It is definitely time for big fun!

It's finally "Summertime" again.......1999-06-19

He's back at it and hasn't lost a beat. This long awaited CD is a must for any HLS fan. With all the 80's artists making a come back with old material Henry has again proven that he doesn't have to rehash any old material with this fresh new CD. The worst part about it is that he doesn't get out and tour more since he does put on quite a show so ya have to roll down the windows and let it blast and imagine. If you have problems getting the CD go visit his website, that's where I found mine. Anyway let's hope that it's not another 6 years for the next.

THE BEST OF HLS.......1999-05-25

Smoke and Mirrors is Henry's first CD in almost 6 years, so I was really excited to finally see him release an album. The CD shows that Henry Lee has not slacked in any way. The songs are a wonderful mix of ballads and typical HLS rock! The music and the lyrics are so POWERFUL!!! Everything is totally new and totally all his. No remakes and no rehashing of old songs. Henry Lee is back, and he is back strong. It's a shame he continues to only tour in Indiana. If this album where to go national, this one would definitely get him the atttention he deserves! There is no artist better than HENRY LEE.
