Please someone stop me thinking that Green Thoughts is GREAT.......2003-04-11

I found this cd through some random thrift shop pillaging and have been praising the heavens ever since. Green Thoughts is one of those albums that are so amazingly catchy and beautiful to the ears you have to listen to it on repeat ten-thousand times over.

The tracks on Green Thoughts focus around heartache but despite their emo-esque titles (i.e. Drown In My Own Tears, Deep Black, If The Sun Dosen't Shine) its amazingly accessible 1987 vibe puts across more than just the loneliness of a relationship gone sour. Green Thoughts is The Car's with soul and and Elvis Costello with power chords.

If you happen to be looking for an album with some beautiful melody and heartfelt lyrics, Green Thoughts is where it's at. It really is incredible.

Laudable effort fails to grasp arcanum.......2002-05-19

Tuneful, guitar-oriented power-pop without a thought in its head other than getting to the next great hook-laden chorus -- which most times, unfortunately, just ain't as great or hook-laden as it oughta be, given ersatz-Top 40 format. Borrows heavily from British Invasion greats, though not remotely in same league; still, entertaining on its own limited terms. Guranteed you'll end up pining for the real thing -- Unit 4 + 2 or Gerry, let alone the Yardbirds, Pretty Things, or _Kinks_, for cryin' out loud. (And don't that particularly golden pop-music heyday look more like some divine abberation with each passing year?)

Solid 2nd effort........1999-08-08

The songs on here are a lttle lighter than on their first release and they try to branch out musically a little more with songs like "Especially For You" and "Spellbound", neither of which is in their tried-and-true Beatles-Who-Kinks vein. Like all their CD's, this is consistent all the way through.

The Greatest Forgotten Band of the Eighties!.......2004-07-05

The Smithereens were one of the top forgotten band of the 1980s & Green Thoughts was a top notch album.
Spearheaded by the top 40 hit Only A Memory there were no weak tracks on this collection. AOR favorites House We Used To Live In, World We Know & Drown In My Own Tears made this a must have for fans of the band. Toss in concert favorites Something New, Deep Black & the title song & you have one of the most underrated albums of that entire decade!
Recommended for fans & for those who want to explore a really great album.

This collection of 18th century songs of Linley, Harrington, and Jackson gave me a wonderful conviction of the rich repetoire of music from the Georgian era. The elogies of Linely are so sweet and the poetry is the most artful I was read and heard sung. I'm sure Amor himself inspired these composers, since the texts are too eloquent to be compared or compeated. The only wrong thing about this album is that the recording volume is a tad too low and you might have to turn up your volume to really hear the voices. But this is such an elegant collection of songs for those who long to hear a sweeter song.
