Second full-length album (and third release overall) from this Alterna-Rock band fronted by actress Juliette Lewis. Since the release of their debut album, the Licks have established an unshakable presence as a live act, then their first stable line-up brought with it the chance to develop as a song writing unit. Writing as they toured, the band concentrated on capturing their stage energy to provide a definitive Licks sound for the next record. Unfortunately, the departure of their drummer at the end of the year left them drummerless. Luckily, the road had also seen their paths cross with someone who would play an instrumental role in the most important chapter of their career - Foo Fighters front man and former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl. Originally brought in to play on demos the band recorded at his 606 Studio in California, Grohl extended his stay for the album. Features 10 tracks including the single 'Hot Kiss'. Hassle. 2006.

I just happened to stumble upon a few tracks from this album on their myspace page. I was actually on the Juliana Hatfield page, and noticed "Juliette and the Licks" as one of her friends. Now, I had heard of them through some hollywood gossip TV rag like Entertainment Tonight, YEARS AGO...and I thought..."yeah, Juliette Lewis, probably just another in a long line of actresses who thinks she's a singer. She's hot, but no, I won't be buying her music...its probably crap." Well, I was VERY WRONG! I went to their myspace page and was immediately sucked in. Juliette has a great, raunchy, voice and the instrumentals match it. The intrumentals are excellent too, BTW...kind of bluesy punk (heh...now isn't THAT a cool combination!) Over [...] bucks is a bit much to pay for ANY CD, so I went to another on-line vendor to buy it for almost half. The five tracks I heard on their myspace page though...RAWKED!!!

This is a straight forward, onward moving ROCK ALBUM with some flairs of punkishness. I would never have known about Juliette and her band and her skills till I saw her perform on LONDON LIVE on an HD Channell. This album rocks! Get it!

all the songs are great on this cd i was bummed when it was over and had to hit the button to start it all over again.
my absolute fave song is Hot Kiss and you gotta love Death of a whore, but all songs are great on this cd.
cd insert does have the lyrics and with the song death of a whore i am surprised it doesnt have a explicit language warning.
dont miss out on this CD is is a must!!!
even if you havent bought her cds before this would be a great one to begin with, it is far the best one she has done so far.

Killer Album!.......2006-10-25

Juliette Lewis's second full-length album starts very aggressively with "Smash And Grab". You could say that the whole album is full of aggressive songs both melodically and lyrically. The next song "Hot Kiss" is one of the best songs in the album. The lyrics are quite dark, for example "Killer", "Purgatory Blues", "Mind Full of Daggers", and "Death of a Wh*re" are great examples. Juliette sings very aggressively and this album does not give any rest. This is heavy metal. Juliette Lewis is awesome! This album is one of the best albums of 2006!!!

In 2003, Juliette formed Juliette and the Licks, a five piece outfit whose guitarists, Todd Morse (from NY hardcore act H20) and Kemble Walters would prove a constant in its fledgling, revolving line-ups. Deciding that the live arena would be the best way for the band to discover its identity, J&TL hit the road appearing on the Vans Warped Tour in 2004 as well as opening for acts as diverse as Turbonegro, Social Distortion and Courtney Love. The following year brought with it a hurricane of activity that saw the band's first studio releases (Like a Bolt of Lightening EP in February, swiftly followed by self-produced debut full-length, You're Speaking My Language in May), while a relentless touring schedule saw them play to over 500,000 people in over 20 countries. The Licks crossed paths with many during their International travels and as luck would have it, one such encounter played an integral role in shaping their sophomore album. The end of 2005 came with the departure of Licks' drummer and in stepped Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl. This is Pure and Fabulous.......1999-05-04

I first heard The Nylons in 1982. I loved the classic Do-wop and harmonies that they presented. I had the opportunity to see them live in the spring of 1983 in Montreal. This CD is a fine representation of their abilities and style. However, it is time for a new live album with the new lineup. This album is dedicated to the memory of Marc Connors. His amazing voice is missed.

I have been a fan of A Cappella music ever since I was in A Cappella choir in high school (no, I won't say how long ago that was!) I came across this CD and once I heard it, I was hooked!!! You will be too; their voices are great and the songs also, especially - Good Old A Cappella, and Eli's Coming (which is haunting)....

What's not to like about contemporary music?.......2006-07-08

Ever since I first heard Javelin, I have looked for more recordings of Michael Torke's music. I resisted old recordings offered at a very high price after some effort and was delighted to find this collection containing a wide perspective of his work ranging from the color pieces (Green, Cool Blue Music, Ecstatic Orange) to the vocal Proverbs to the utilitarian tool music. Don't miss it.
