This 1978 live album remains a serious contender for one of the best live rock albums ever etched, standing toe to toe with live classics from the Band, Allman Brothers, and the Who. Recorded during concerts in London and Washington, D.C., Waiting for Columbus vividly captures the L.A. sextet at a crossroads between its swampy mid-'70s fusion of blues, country, and New Orleans R&B, and the more eclectic jazz accents introduced later in the decade. If the late Lowell George's influence had diminished in the studio, his presence dominates here in rowdy, righteous vocals, the mercurial tang of his indelible slide guitar, and a set-list laced with his songs. While still riveting in its initial, abridged CD release, this remastered two-disc edition expands and resequences the songs into a full concert set, with encore. Two deleted tracks are further augmented by 10 additional performances to make this a definitive edition of a classic album that really will "boogie your speakers away." --Sam SutherlandAlbum Description

The BEST LIVE ALBUM I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!.......2007-01-18
I put it on & couldn't believe my ears!!
5 stars!!??? That's 'way too few!
I was hooked immediately! There is nothing like the energy on this album anywhere I've heard. I now own around 3200 cds & a good number of them are "live" albums...NOTHING compares to this performance!
I used to shuttle cars across the country & this was my ESSENTIAL tape that HAD to come; everything else changed but this... This album is special!
It was originally a double album & they clipped off one tune to make it fit ( Apolitical Blues, I believe) Too bad. every song, every note on this album is pure excitement & joy!
They even have the TOWER OF POWER horn Section sit in on a few tunes & a few famous friends show up to sing backup.
Little Feat has gone on to produce umpteen fabulous albums, many since Lowell Goerge passed (again, TOO BAD- He was simply amazing!) Anyway, Little Feat still tours today with much the same lineup as in the days of old. They still rock & they still put out excellent studio & live albums I ought to know- I now own almost all of them. But friends... This is the album. THIS Is the LIVE album against with you will measure all others; and all others will pale by comparison!

Waiting to Exhale is the exception that proves the rule about mish-mash '90s soundtrack albums. Even though it features 22 different female voices, the album boasts a rare continuity because Babyface wrote or cowrote 15 of the songs and produced all 16. Moreover, the gifted R&B artist used every song to explore the film's theme of women trying to balance self-respect and romantic desire. Not only has Babyface (nee Kenny Edmonds) created a fascinating song suite, he has produced one of the best middle-of-the-road-pop, adult- contemporary albums of the decade. Mary J. Blige stakes out a claim as the new diva on the block with an astonishing performance on "Not Gon' Cry." Babyface's music and lyrics suggest a woman barely holding back a swelling flood of anger and heartache, and Blige's brilliant vocal captures both the agitation and the restraint. --Geoffrey HimesCustomer Reviews:

The Greatest R&B Soundtrack of the 90's!!!!!.......2007-02-04
This amazing soundtrack which featured some of the greatest female R&B singers of the 90's showcases the raw powerful talent of not only the female artists, but the man who wrote, produced, and arranged most of the songs of the soundtack, Babyface. I recommend this album to anyone who has seen the movie or if you love R&B music that this is an album that has to be included in your music collection. Let's begin with the first song, which brings forth the passion and power of the soundtrack
1)Exhale (Shoop Shoop)- Strong opening for the song. Ms. Houstons vocals were strong. The lyrics wonderful as they portrayed the emotional drama that occured during the movie
2)Why does it hurt so bad?- Wonder why some of us are still in love with someone who has hurt us so bad. Well Babyface and Whitney want to tell you and they do so brillantly. This incredible song demonstrates why Ms. Houston is one of our greatest singers of all time.
3)Let it flow- Have Toni Braxtons Secrets album, then you alredy know about this song. Now Say lalalalala
4)Hurts Like Hell- Bow down to the Queen of Soul, Ms. Franklin. This was probably one of the best songs of the album. Ms. Franklin talks about the hurt we all go through when love turns sour and how the survivial hurts like hell
5)Sitt'in in my room- At the time Brandy the soundtrack was released. Brandy was one of the youngest newcomers of the R&B scene. Although initially, I wanted Aaliyah to be on the soundtrack and wondered why she was not there, Brandy did a great job with the song, it brought a youthful approach about love and romance.
6)This is how it works- This before the fan mail CD was probabaly TLC's most provocative song out there. If your listening at work make sure to keep it at low volume.
7) Not Gon'Cry- This song totally fits the character of Angela Basset from the movie and for any woman who has been betrayed by her lover, friend, and or husband. Known to all of us, as the Queen of Hip Hop and Soul Babyface really knew what song to give Mary J. Blige and this song really showcases Mary's ability to do a variety of R&B styles not just with songs that have a Hip Hop edge to them
8)My Funny Valentine- Yes a remake of this incredible song, it can only be done by a great singer and Chaka Khan the legend that she is outdid herself immensely. Her voice was so sultry, and inviting that the song really gets you in the mood for umm some long loving....
9)And I Gave My Love to You- When I hear this song I think of soul, hip hop,and poetry.
10)All Night Long- Great song to seduce your man into getting him into the mood.
11)Wey U- Even though I did not understand the lyrics. Chante Moores voice is so great that you overlook it
12)My Love, Sweet Love- Ms. Labelle is not going to let these other girls get all the attention with this sweet song. Yes, she is going to sing nice and slow, but towards the end she is going to give us a wave of emotion which only Patti can give.
13)Kissing You- One of my favorite songs from Faith Evans. Ms. Evans at this time had just barely entered the R&B scene and Babyface knew what song to give to her really push her out to mainstream.
14)Love will be waiting at home- The last songs of the soundtrack show a variety of artists who were not really known in the music scene. For Real was an incredible R&B group that showcased great singer but sadly did not make it to mainstream
15)How could you call her baby- Want to win an agrument with your man if he is cheating. Play this song.
16)Count on Me- What do you when you feature the greatest singer of our time (Ms. Houston) and match her with one of the greatest Gospel vocalists of our time (Ms. Winans). An incredible song that talks about being there for someone you care for.
All In All this soundtrack was incredible
Love It!.......2006-05-11
This album assembles some of the greatest talent!.......2006-03-27
To call this album a soundtrack is a little misleading. _Waiting to Exhale_ isn't so much a soundtrack as a compilation album that was played incessantly throughout a movie. As the music industry digs itself deeper and deeper into the hole of over-promoting singles to the point of completely eroding audience loyalty to a particular artist, the soundtrack has become a lifeline through which the major labels are attempting to increase sales by targeting tightly-focused demographics with the best they have to offer. none of that, however, does anything to detract from the awe-inspiring talent brought together for this project.
Starting from Aretha Franklin to Brandy, Chaka Khan to Mary G Blige and Patti La Belle to Whitney Houston, it bridges a gap across generations of black female singers, while showcasing the different forms that Soul Music has taken over the years.
Whitney Houston's pre-requisite contributions are gems with "Why does it hurt so bad" standing out as the crown jewel. while Toni Braxton's "Let it flow" doesn't pack the vocal Whallop of "Unbreak my heart" it does address some of the major relationship issues of the movie that it is meant to represent. Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan, of course, are flawless. Brandy and TLC add the album's only party tracks with "Sittin' up in my room" and "This is how it should be done", respectively. Mary J. Blige brings the house down with her heart-wrenching performance of "Not gon' Cry" building on the heartache of Houston and Franklin's contributions. Newcomer (During that year) Sonja Marie breaks it down with "and "I gave my love to you", establishing her as a Sade Protégé with a style all her own. SWV and Faith Evans provide rather non-descript turn-down-the-lights love jams in "All night long" and "Kissing you", respectively, while for real and Shanna show that there is a steady flow of new talent that may one day be the heavy-hitters of a similar compilation effort.
Aside from assembling some of the greatest talent in R&B, hip-hop and soul, this album is significant because it reflects the changing tide of the music industry during that time that was so long dominated by men. Though written and produced by a man, this album would not have sold nearly as well had all the contributing artist been men and, for recognizing that, _Waiting to Exhale_ is a historic album.

Virginia exile Jason Mraz grew up listening to Dave Matthews and Agents of Good Roots, local heroes whose frat-friendly influences are much in evidence on his major-label debut. Producer John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer) augments Mraz's SoCal cohorts with Agents' rhythm section, dramatically expanding and polishing songs like "Curbside Prophet" and "You and I Both," which previously appeared in looser, less developed versions on Mraz's self-released live recordings. But fans from the singer-songwriter's coffeehouse years need not despair. Mraz's witty lyrics and easygoing folk-blues stylings (think Jack Johnson on Prozac) are still very much in evidence. He's also in fine voice and, on two standout tracks--"Who Needs Shelter" and "Absolutely Zero"--rivals Neil Finn in his ability to invoke the spirit of Paul McCartney. Waiting for My Rocket to Come showcases an artist who, while still finding his own direction, is clearly off to a great start. --Bill FormanAlbum Description

Different but Still Great!.......2007-07-09
What surprised me the most when I listened through the album was that I thought it sounded different. Was it really that long since I last heard it? I did not realize that the album had been both remastered and remixed. I guess it will take some time to get used to these new "versions" - but the sound is really crisp and clear, and if I want to hear the old mixes I can always return to the originals.
The original album contains some the Doors' most poetic and melodic moments like "Yes, The River Knows", the exquisite "Love Street" , which is one of the highlights of the album. The moving "Summer`s Almost Gone". "Wintertime Love" and "Spanish Caravan" are other highlights.
"Not to Touch the Earth" and "Five to One" : Classic Doors !!!
The hit singles "Hello I Love You" and "The Unknown Soldier" may not have aged as well as the rest of the album`s songs. Except of course the weak "My Wild Love" which probably always will annoy me.
We finally get the whole package.......2007-06-23
Not to Touch the Earth is probably the best part of the song, but its only part of it.
I remember being disappointed that the song was not long like, The End or When the Music's over were on their previous two releases.
FINALLY after 40 years they have released a studio version of the entire song.
Waiting for the Sun and their first album simply entitled the Doors are in my mind their best releases. Both albums are raw and are less commercial.
Some of the later releases such as Soft Parade and Morrison Hotel are either not as good or are too commerical. A few songs on Soft Parade even have horns and other things that make the recordings too "Refined"
Jim Morrison is reciting his poetry, and it is probably his first album where he does so.
For hard core Doors fans like myself this is a must. For casual listeners or new listeners, I dont know what to tell you.
For me the recording is now complete and Doors fans like myself can now hear this CD in its entirety.............Enjoy

The spy has been in deep cover behind the Iron Curtain. He has just received his hurried direction in clipped sentences, has checked into the Hotel Kafka, and has been intercepted, probed, scoffed at, ignored, and wiretapped.
Then for no reason at all, he goes through a door, and is on the ice at the Berlibber Ice Palatz, to see the Gunatzis Brothers, Hans and Junni, shoot it out with weapons of increasing caliber and fierceness...
It was their first album, and thus one of their more transparent. But side two (sorry, Side Five), remains a masterpiece.

Inhale The Smoked Out Rhymes (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-05-04
Devin's music has a laid back atmosphere with his slow flow. As many realised, he's in to two things: weed and women. I'm not mad at that A lot of the songs on here are about those two topics, over some slow sounding beats, and it can be enteraining. "She Want That Money" is one of the entertaining tracks that on this album. "I Hope I Don't Get Sick-A-This" and "All Mighty Dollar" has some nice beats that goes with Devin's flow. "Lil' Girl Gone" with Lil Wayne and Bun B is a nice song about little females who end up in very bad situations.
Some tracks I wasn't feeling was "What A Job" even though I love Snoop Dogg and Andre 3000. "Just Because" is a funny but the song itself is so slow, I'm just not feeling it. "Don't Wanna Be Alone" is a long slow don't-leave-me-girl song that has Devin singing, and is hard to build a tollerance for.
Overall, I feel that Devin's fourth album is a very good album. I personally like "To Tha X-Treme" better than this album. I believe that his albums are poorly promoted and are the reason why he gets slept on. Heck, he doesn't even get play in his home state of Texas, or at least not in San Antonio (I used to live there). If he had better promotion, I would believe that at least one of his albums would go gold or maybe platnum. No doubt Devin's talents maybe the best kept secret from Houston (and the only good album to come from there this year), and I recommend that you check out this album, especially if you like to smoke weed. Peace!

Entertaining, very entertaining.......2007-04-30
I have never heard any of this Dude's albums even though I always found his guest appearances funny. I decided to take a chance on his latest and I haven't been disappointed at all.
Lyrically Devin is the funniest thing I've ever heard. Its crazy how he can be funny even though he tackles some of the most over used subject matters. For example "She Useta Be" about a girl that was hot when she was young and put on a FEW pounds later on. Another is the Eminem influenced ode to killing his partner. Devin makes these topics fresh again.
Musically the album is very laid back defying the raunchy lyrical content but goes well with his lazy rap flow. Being independent Devin can ignore all rules regarding sampling and he really takes liberties with a wide range of samples which I cannot always place.
The album also scores because of Devin's ability to switch it up and take on more serious topics like on "Lil' Girl Lost" and "What A Job". Both tracks are definite highlights of the album.
Ultimately there is no need to be over analytical on this one, some will hate and some will love it, I just happen to be one of those that love it

When you need to remember to live life........2005-04-06
Let me take you back in time. It's 1994 and I am moving from my home to a big new city to pursue a dream. An awesome friend of mine, makes me a tape of various songs. It included three from the FJB, her favorite band, she was a groupie. From the beginning the music was uplifting, full of great lyrics and incredible. From Take the Time, to One World and then of course In a Daydream. I was in tears. I was starting new. Powerful stuff.
Take the Time starts off asking, Where the hell are you running to? Try and find yourself a life. Look at yourself you're just standing still. And later, Tired of people talking about what they're gonna do or what they said or should have done. It commands you to take the time to look in front of you. It's full of great harmonies, haunting vocals and goosebump producing guitars. Seriously.
In A Daydream starts off with a great, catchy, loopy guitar riff. It's a song that will propel you forward in one of those days you just dream about. Warm, sunny day in the middle of nowhere. "The sky is calling, calling out my name." "I'm already in a daydream." The music, especially the guitar and bass towards the end, is meant to achieve the musical equivalent of a fantasy. It captures it.
The bottom line is that music, for me, is meant to take me away to another place or time. This album is timeless, deserved A LOT more recognition that it got and this band was just incredible live. In fact, much better live. Thanks to my friend 11 yrs ago for introducing me to TFJB. I am in Chicago now, too bad they aren't together anymore. But their music lives on forever.

Great CD.......2006-08-06
Simply the Best.......2005-06-29
In a compilation of songs like this you're always going to have tracks that you prefer over others, but the majority of the renditions in this CD are great. This is simply one of the best collections of Sondheim out there. You get interpretations that span from "classical" (Green Finch), to bordering on insane (Anything Twice). This is to demonstrate how versatile this composer really is.
In my opinion, some of the best renditions are "Not a Day Goes By," "Anyone Can Whistle", "Girls Upstairs Medley," "Losing My Mind/Drive a Person Crazy," and "Weekend inthe Country." Makes me wish I had been there to witness it first hand.
If you love Sondheim and enjoy hearing Broadway performers, get this CD. A great recording.
Inconsistent, but mostly excellent.......2004-03-21
"Celebration" is not strong enough a word.......2003-04-30
I have been a major Sondheim fan for quite some time, and I finally obtained a copy of this album. I was blown away by the excellent cast and phenomenal selection of music. It is obvious how much work went into this production, considering that this is the live recording of a one time show, and it's flawless. The songs cover all of his shows with the exception of "Passion," which was released 3 years after this show. Also, the shows for which he wrote only lyrics are ommited, like West Side Story, Gypsy, etc. Thus, you can find material from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anyone can Whistle, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Merrily we Roll Along, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins.
There are two striking things about this CD (besides the music and performers themselves). First of all, some of the songs are completely stylistically reworked. The most obvious are "Good Thing Going" and "I Never do Anything Twice." Both are traditionally very ballady with a piano accompaniment, but here they have been redone as jazzy tunes. The result is excellent. Such reworkings demonstrate that Sondheim writes music for virtually any style, and in these cases, across several styles. It's a great example of his variety. The other interesting thing is how many songs have overlapping melodies of songs from different shows. Case in point, "Our Time" and "No one is Alone" are sung seperately by the Harlem Boys Choir and Betty Buckley (the original Grizabella in Webber's atrocious "CATS," although Buckley was excellent) respectively, and then combined. Putting these two songs together offer different meanings to each, and the music is only enhanced. Another example, the trio of "Waiting for the Girls Upstairs," "Love, I Hear," and "Live Alone and Like It" are sung in that order, and then the latter two are combined. Again, the meanings of the songs change, this time in an almost narrative style, and offering different takes on love in the same montage. Lastly (at least for this review, there are more), Dorothy Laudon's (the original Ms. Hannigan in Annie) combination of "Losing my Mind" and "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" is brilliant. Those who are familiar with these songs will wonder how exactly they fit, but trust me, they do. She swtiches back and forth between melodies to create a number that starts poignant and beautiful, and soon moves to become uproariously funny. Both the song reworkings and overlapping melodies of unrelated songs are all for the better.
I recommend this recording to anyone wanting to get better acquainted with some of Sondheim's best work, or those already familiar who want to hear a tour de force of phenomenal music. It has been said that Sondheim is a masterful lyricist (which he is), but lacks real talent for music. This CD is the final proof that such critics are wrong. His music may take a few listenings to get into, contrary to Webber or Wildhorn, but unlike those two, he doesn't cater to the audience. He challenges them to think outside of traditional musical theater in a glorious repertoise of shows that reach for a smarter, more sophisticated form.
A maginificent evening, a magnificent album.......2001-12-16
This wonderful double CD shows off the best and brightest of the musical theatre composer and it is, as one person put it, "an embarassment of riches." With songs from his finest works done in amazing arrangements (listen to that harmony in "We Had a Good Thing Going"!) combined with fabulous performers this is a Sondheim lovers delight.
My favorite song is, without a doubt, Dorothy Louden and her wonderful medley of "Losing My Mind" into "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" followed very closely by the recently departed Madeline Kahn singing "Getting Married Today."

The Killers. Interpol. Franz Ferdinand. Without New Order's influence they could have all ended up making albums of country & western ballads. Since the demise of Joy Division in 1980, the British synth-pop quartet has been diligently changing the course of popular music, lobbing unlikely but inventive hits like "Blue Monday" and "True Faith" into the charts. Twenty-five years on, New Order remains shockingly vital. Its eighth proper album overflows with shimmering melodies, anchored by Peter Hook's spine-tingling bass lines and Bernard Sumner's thin but emotive voice in thrilling new songs like "Krafty" and "Dracula's Castle." -- Aidin VaziriCustomer Reviews:

The Comeback Continues..........2006-10-31
Who's Joe (8/10): Excellent opener saved from mediocrity by spectacular bass riffs during the chorus.
Hey Now (7/10): Unfortunately, Hooky didn't save this bland rocker (oxymoron?) from relative mediocrity. Sounds more like Electronic (Barney's side project with former Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr) than NO. Not that Electronic's so bad...
Krafty (10/10): Possibly their greatest single ever (and this is really saying something!). Absolute New Order heaven. Reminds me of their criminally unknown track, Such A Good Thing.
Waiting For The Siren's Call (10/10): Another all-time classic - better than virtually anything since 93's Regret. One of Hook's most distinctive and addictive licks ever, and a masterful performance by the entire group. It's flabbergasting they're this good 25 years on!
I Told You So (8/10): An abrupt switch to pure techno, which would not have worked if the song wasn't so good. Like many NO tunes, this one's a grower. Dark, swaggering, sophisticated, & sexual.
Morning Night And Day (7/10): Here's where the album starts sagging. Nothing awful, but the next few don't even compare to tracks 3 and 4. Still, pretty good ear candy.
Dracula's Castle (7/10): Run of the mill. Too synth- heavy and melodically meandering. Should have been a b-side for Krafty.
Jetstream (8/10): Not bad - this one was a minor hit - but something about it leaves me cold. This dancy, druggy collaboration with Ana Matronic didn't really need to be a single.
Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (9/10): Great title, great song. Pure, stomping techno, the likes of which we haven't heard from NO since 89's TECHNIQUE. Unlike some of the previous numbers, this time the electronica really works for them. The first in a trilogy of whoppers that close out SIREN'S CALL.
Turn (9/10): Cited by many online fans as the best track, this one's a driving and emotional pop gem - elegiac, catchy, and more rock-oriented like the first four tracks.
Working Overtime (9/10): Adrenalized punk-pop, Green Day-style. It all comes together on this fantastically alive rocker that leaves you grinning as the disk stops. NO have a long history of closing their albums in grand style, and this is one of their best. Along the same lines as Rock The Shack, but distinctly better.
Overall grade: 9/10. Heed the call.
