Essential for Banjo Players.......2007-06-08

First heard this on the Elektra release many years ago. Fine contrast between the melodic style and the older, more traditional Scruggs style of banjo picking. If you are just learning or an expert, this album bears repeat listening for inspiration. You too can play like this, if you just practice enough. Excellent mixing and if you adjust the balance on your old stereo you can isolate the dueling banjos. As an old picker, I would say this is the best.

Probably the Best CD I own.......2007-04-03

I bought this CD based on the movie sound track and have discovered that it is probably one of the best banjo CD's out there. I highly recommend this CD for anyone even remotely interested in banjo music.

A Great Blast From The Past.......2007-03-27

Many a neophyte banjo player in the 1960's wore out their original Elektra produced LP of "New Dimensions in Banjo and Bluegrass" by Eric Weisberg and Marshall Brickman. The first widely disseminated demonstrations of "melodic style" banjo as differentiated from the traditional three finger "Scruggs Style" banjo were found on those wonderful vinyl tracks. Now this reissue is available with the bonus of the Dueling Banjos title cut. That perfomance helped to catapult the banjo into a yet higher level of music appreciation world-wide. For banjo players, this is a "must have" album. The pioneering melodic work of Eric Weisberg and Marshall Brickman are now preserved for the the next generation of 5-string banjo pickers. If you don't have yours yet, get one now. These digital grooves will last longer than my old LP.

Deliverance Soundtrack.......2007-01-12

This is by far the best traditional bluegrass album ever created. Many times bluegrass albums add instruments such as piano drums. Personally I like a tradional bluegrass band that includes banjo, guitar, bass, fiddle, mandolin and even dobro. This CD has this. The banjo playing makes for a fun, bouncing lead that truly drives the music. The fiddle adds a driving almost haunting sound. The guitar and bass add a strong yet musically exciting backdrop to the entire repertoire. Being a bluegrass banjo and guitar player myself, I highly recommend this CD if you are looking for straight-forward traditional bluegrass music.

Classic "Golden Hits" Collection.......2005-01-24

Collectors have all of the Smokey River Boys albums over their 40 year incredible history on MCA Universal. This album is part of that history that led to the group's election to the "Legends Hall Of Fame" in 2003.

Three generations have contributed to the legendary group's success in the bluegrass genre. The group has two of the "Greatest Bluegrass Hits In History," and one of those incredible hits, is the famous "Dueling Banjos" found on this album. If you are a bluegrass collector, this is one of three albums that is a "must buy" at Amazon. This "Golden Hits" collection is pure honey to the ears of any bluegrass fan.

This CD is a re-release of two extraordinary LP albums by Earl Scruggs, and the Earl Scruggs Revue.The "Live At Kansas" is an excellent presentation of their live shows, it includes the side comments, the excitement, and the fun of their live concerts.In the bluegrass genre of music these two albums are considered "Classic".

This CD is outstanding!!! I use to thing that bluegrass had to be strictly old fasioned and no electronics but this CD is one of my favorite by Earl Scruggs an friends!

The master of the 5 string banjo is represented here on 2 albums which chronicle a period of transition for Earl Scruggs. The Dueling Banjos album consists of studio recordings done with his band "The Earl Scruggs revue" Blending the old standards with some new exciting songs (all instrumental) it's a great example of good solid muscianship and taste- hallmarks of Scruggs work on the banjo. It also showcases his son Randy on guitar. The Kansas state album captures a live show with all the energy intact. A good mix of brilliant banjo work, gospel, southern rock; You can feel the place rock with excitement over this band. Highly recomended!!

Amazing banjo work!.......1998-12-16

I love this CD! I bought it because I had the original "Original Dueling Banjos" and thought this might be half as good, and was I ever impressed! The banjo versions of "Classical Gas" and "Tequila" are my favorites, but the interpretation of "The Star Spangled Banner" is also interesting. I would recommend this (and any other recording from CMH Records) to any bluegrass, country, or folk fan.

I just Love to listen to Arthur Smith. I love Dueling Banjos. My favorite is his Guitar Boogie. I will buy some of his CD's from Amazon. I have Guitar Boogie on a CD with other guitar artist. I like him best of all. I like his 12th Street Rag, I want the musical score for Guitar Boogie. Where can I find it it print. I used to have it. I can not locate it in my house as I moved. Can you help? The Guitar Boogie Arthur Smith. He is a fantastic guitarist. I will be purchasing his April feature. Is he still living? I really enjoyed listening to him on your downloads. I first purchased this in the back of a small truck stop while on a road trip. In few words, this album satiates a hankering for bluegrass and mountain music. With two versions of Mountain Dew, a nice peppy Blue Ridge Mountain Blues and even the classic Dueling Banjos, this is great for first time Bluegrass listeners and veterans alike.

I give this album a high rating because it's like candy for a sweet tooth, but truth be known, the album lacks length. Weighing in at only eight short songs, it's a shame this album couldn't go on forever! Is it worth purchasing? Yes. Why? Because sometimes you don't want country and bluegrass all day; sometimes you just need a dollop while you're crunching along the gravel driveway from back of an old lonely truck stop.
