Album Description

The much anticipated NEW ALBUM containing 26 unreleased, all original songs by one of the world's premier DJs - ATB!

On this, his seventh album, ATB has succeeded in combining two worlds, without intermingling them unnecessarily. Trilogy's first disc ("Dance") provides the electronic and melodious ATB sound blended with a unique rock and pop crossover flavour. The second disc ("Chill"), on the other hand, offers the listener 14 super smooth tracks.

"Every album should have its own soul and a golden thread leading through all the songs. However, you only really feel the soul if you listen to all the songs together. If you mix up the faster and slower songs, that isn't going to work," explains Andre.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Are You Kidding??.......2007-07-16

I thought I could count on Andre for inspired and soaring synth riffs (i.e."In My Dreams", etc.) I feel completely ripped off by this album. He has always been my number one trance artist, but now I feel like this God is dead. ATB is now "A Total Bore". Save your money...this album sucks.

4 out of 5 stars ATB's new sounds, and then some........2007-07-06

This is definitely a high-flyer for ATB. It reminds me very much of the Two Worlds album, with the first CD being mainly techno-y/pop songs and the second CD being a great ambient mix. I'm not much of a fan of Heather Nova, and there's something about the featured single, "Renegade" that doesn't sound right, but dedicated ATB fans will like the new sounds, especially if you can't find quite the same kind of ambient that only ATB has. I would say it's no Movin' Melodies, or Two Worlds for that matter, but it's definitely worth the money. I've loved and listened to ATB for 6 years and I'm impressed that he can come out with a refreshingly new two-disc set after being in the game this long.

4 out of 5 stars Great album...but does not reach "No silence" yet..........2007-06-26

ATB is an excellent DJ. Although he's classified in the Trance category, a more appropriate definition of his style would be melodic trance, as pointed out by a reviewer here. If you look for DJ tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, PVD like trance, go elsewhere. This is more mellow, more subtle trance here. The first CD has great vocal trance tracks (Renegade with Heather Nova will probably be among the most popular), pretty energetics sometimes, but nothing like the heavy basses rhythms of the DJs I mentionned earlier. Very laid back and relaxing.
The second CD, is definitely leaning towards dream music. very relaxing, excellent chillout tracks, perfect for a lazzy afternoon, or a quiet drive from the club at 4am.
4 stars only? well, rating is different for everybody, but to me, ATB really stood out with his previous album "No silence" and tracks like Ectasy, Marrakech, and others. IMHO this album is not as innovative and sort of surf on the same wave but no higher.
dont get me wrong though, it's still great music. I guess I'm just not as nicely surprised as with the "No silence" album. if you liked it, buy this one with your eyes closed.

4 out of 5 stars ATB - Trilogy.......2007-06-25

ATB's newest CD is confusingly called "Trilogy". It's confusing since it's only 2 Discs-long, when I thought it was going to be 3 Discs-long - given the "Trilogy" title.

On top of that, it's almost like buying 2 completely different, separate artists' albums. That said, both of Trilogy's discs are good at what they set out to do.

Disc 1 is your typical ATB album. It's upbeat; it's dance-able. It's catchy, but never cheesey. There are good beats throughout and points to ATB for producing/creating them himself. A lot of DJ's can just spin good records, but ATB can also make good records. I thought the vocals were good throughout. This album is great for clubbing, driving fast, partying, etc. If you are a fan of ATB's other stuff, Disc 1 should definitely appeal to you.

Disc 2 however, is about as opposite from Disc 1 as you can get. Disc 2 is super mellow, ambient music. It is background music at its finest. It's calming, and can actually be beautiful at times - again a testament to ATB's ability to produce/create/make music. This CD is perfect for staying calm in rush-hour traffic, reading a book, or trying to fall asleep to.

So both CDs are good, even if they're really not related. I'm not sure anyone would ever naturally want to listen to them back-to-back; they're just so different from one another. If you are strictly a fan of the trance/dance genre, Disc 1 is for you, and you may hate Disc 2. If you're open to a wider taste of music, you may like both discs.

4 out of 5 stars nice!.......2007-06-20

I like this... there is a compilation I found on itunes called "EURO CLUB HITS VOL. 1" that has more stuff like this, even better some of it

5 out of 5 stars ELP's Most Accessible Album Remastered Right!.......2007-06-27

Emerson,Lake & Palmer really hit it's stride with "Trilogy".From ambitious epics("The Endlees Enigma" and the title track) to playful Americana-spiced numbers("The Sheriff" and "Hoedown"),from sensitive and mellow("From The Beginning",their sole Top 40 hit)to dark and brutal("Living Sin"),this record neatly encapsulates the full range of everthing ELP had done up to this point into a cohesive, impressive whole.Like the other Shout! Factory ELP reissues Emerson, Lake & Palmer,Tarkus and Pictures at an Exhibition, the remastered sound quality(which, like the other three, was done by Andy Pearce at Masterpiece London)is both stunning-sharp,warm and crystal clear-and a big improvement over the dull-sounding,outdated Atlantic,Victory and Rhino versions of the 80's and 90's.And despite a lack of bonus tracks,no fan of ELP or prog-rock should hesitate to upgrade with this reasonabley-priced remastered jewel.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great ELP CD.......2007-06-26

TRILOGY is another great ELP CD. Shout! has proven that it can do ELP the same justice that it did the Marshall Tucker Band, with this CD being just another example of how a great remastering job can overcome the limitations of the original source. Even the Rhino remaster didn't do right by this album, but Shout! finally did.

The original Will the Circle Be Unbroken is undoubtedly a landmark country-music recording. A peace offering between rock-reared longhairs and rock-ribbed Nashville patriarchs (and one matriarch, Mother Maybelle Carter), it exposed generations of upstart pickers and singers to old-time country music and its impact is felt to this day. The organizers of the 1971 sessions that led to the initial three-LP set, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, have produced two sequels, the first in 1989 and the most recent in 2002. This six-disc collection (including an all-star concert DVD) pulls together all three Circle sessions and, naturally, captures dozens of essential performances, plus a fair number of inessentials. Anyone with an interest in country music will want the original. Its mission is clear, the performances are inspired, and its significance is undeniable. The second Circle strays far afield from the original concept, bringing in the rather lightweight likes of John Denver and Michael Martin Murphy to mix with volume one holdovers Jimmy Martin and Earl Scruggs. The final volume is also more diffuse than one would like, though eminent guest stars such as Del McCoury, June Carter Cash, and Johnny Cash help it capture the spirit of the original more frequently than does its immediate predecessor. Completists will relish having all three collections in one box, while those who think three times around the circle is two too many are advised to stick with the 30th anniversary reissue of the initial album. --Steven Stolder

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Will the circle be unbroken.......2006-02-23

I bought this boxed set after watching the DVD. previously I wasn't particularly a country fan, now I am converted. The recordings span 20 years, each one is excellent, the whole collection being superb. If you want to try "true" country, this is one of the best places to start. A lot of the artists are difficult to get hold of, but all together they make a CD set of many colours. Well worth the price, a thoroughly good collection; to be well recommended.

5 out of 5 stars American Bluegrass Music - Yesterday and Today.......2005-01-27

"Trilogy" is a monument to American Bluegrass music. Within its seven hours of music is a living history of this American art form, from the 1930's until today. It brings together all three volumes of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and adds a DVD performance disc, and adds updated notes about the history of this three decade long project by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

No other collection of country music brings together "founders and originators" such as Mother Maybelle Carter, and the Carter Family, with their musical "children", Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Earl Scruggs, Merle Travis, and Doc Watson, and the third generation...Rosanne Cash, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Allison Krauss, Tony Rice, Dwight Yoakum...some of the greatest talents of three generations and six decades of American music.

Each generation of singers and musicians remain faithful to the "roots" of this music, playing with acoustic guitars, banjos and fiddles. The mood is that of a group of talented friends, sitting in the living room, and singing and playing the songs they love the best. The feeling and heart in these performances can be felt, as well as heard.

The sound quality is exceptional. It is easy to forget these are recordings...it feels as if the musicians are sitting right next to you while they joke, chat, sing and play these songs.

This is too much music to digest in a single sitting. Instead, it is more enjoyable to select just one CD, savor it for a day or two, and then move on to another. I have no doubt that people will be listening to, and loving, this music a century from now. This will be one of the living treasures of American culture for generations to come.

It is amazing that a seven hour collection of some of the greatest music of our time is available for less than $50...less than $7 for each incredible hour of music. At this bargain price, even folks who own one or two of the previous sets included in "Trilogy" ought to buy this collection...and perhaps buy another for their children or a good friend.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars are not enough.......2003-12-16

This is a dynmite collection of blue grass music. After 5CDs and you think it can't get any better there's a DVD that puts it all over the top. Can not say enough good things about this package....

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate NGDB!.......2003-10-09

The ultimate NGDB collection piece I've ever owned. The bonus DVD is spectacular and superb quality - the guest artists on it are incredible. I own all three Circle volumes and have them scattered between the car, home and office. This is the best piece to have all three together in one package. Next on my list of NGDB 'must-haves in a perfect world' would be a new studio album.
I remain in NGDB heaven with my new box set!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Really Moving !.......2007-02-02

Slight disappointment on the lack of mariachi, however, solid musical enjoyment. But, also came with a bonus DVD featuring material of Del Castillo, and those guitars are just incredibly riveting, and so hot. Wow!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous not-quite-a-soundtrack soundtrack.......2007-01-04

If you enjoyed the El Mariachi movies by Robert Rodriguez, then you'll love this CD. I bought it for two tracks and ended up really enjoying the whole CD. Like the title of the CD says, it's not all soundtracks from the movies but it' worth buying if you love the genre.

4 out of 5 stars Great for Rodriguez Fans.......2006-03-11

This is a good compilation. If you're looking for the song that Antonio Banderas plays to the kid in Desperado, this has the full version. Mostly good songs, but a few that aren't amazing. There's a few songs that supposedly inspired the story, but really aren't near as good as the rest. If you like the "epic mexican spaghetti western" sound of Rodriguez's stuff then this is good to have. And I think some of it is previously unreleased, so if you've got all the other soundtracks, this should be next on the list. Good stuff for a Rodriguez fan, or even just someone that's into the unique style.

5 out of 5 stars captivating.......2005-07-11

I came across this album after watching Kill Bill V2. The song that starts just prior to the closing credits (and continues through the credits) is Malagueña Salerosa and I just had to know more about this song. As a result, I discovered this CD. As it turns out, Robert Rodriguez did the score for Kill Bill V2 and I subsequently have come to discover what a creative talent this man is. I heartily recommend the book "Rebel without a Crew," which I recently read. It is Robert's story behind making El Mariachi (I have also posted a review of that book).

Anyway, the CD is fabulous. I don't know Mariachi music all that well, but this seems to me to be more a fusion of Mariachi with some rock flavors. I have played this CD many many times in succession and there are some absolute gems in here.

When I ordered this from Amazon, I was unaware a DVD bonus was included with the CD. This has some nice live footage and an "interview" with Robert. The interview is in quotes because it is basically Robert setting up a camera in his home studio at 4 a.m. and filming himself. What a treat!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

5 out of 5 stars Not Much "Mariachi", But...........2004-12-15

I bought this CD on the strength of my knowledge of some of the musicians hoping to find a sleeper. And I did! The problem for the record company is how to get music stores to put it where it will be found by the "right" people, that is those with an adventurous taste in music who are not afraid to cross over into music sung in a language other than English. Waterloo Records in Austin long ago figured out how to reach that type of listener and so this is a hot seller in Austin. But what about the rest of the US?
It would surely be a mistake to put this in the mariachi section. Not that no one looks for mariachi records, but that strict mariachi aficionados would likely not accept this as representative of the genre. Mexico and Mariachis contains not much "mariachi" at all, but it does offer the listener a splendid array of tunes that range from rock to cumbia, with a few songs in English even thrown in!
I like the whole CD, but my favorites are Chingon's rendition of Malaguena Salerosa, the magnificent ballad Alacran y Pistolero featuring Tito Larriva, the Crusados' Flor de Mal, the Iguanas' excellent cumbia Por Mi Camino, Del Castillo's Spanish Castle Tango, and Los Lobos with the old standard Volver, Volver.
There is truly a lot of great musicianship here. Don't be put off by the title if your idea of mariachi conjures up images of guys who serenade the tables in touristic Mexican restaurants. Its not like that and neither is the music anything like the traditional style of Vicente Fernandez. Think in terms of this music being to mariachi as the nuevo tango of Astor Piazzolla is to the guardia vieja...then crank it up and enjoy!

Given that it's largely credited with reinventing Hollywood--or at least fostering its overweening box office expectations--it's hard to imagine that the genesis of George Lucas' sprawling, multi-billion dollar Star Wars franchise was once considered a risky studio proposition at best. But Lucas himself has wisely singled out the robust, retro-romantic music of composer John Williams as the unlikely artistic linchpin that holds all of the saga's disparate dramatic, thematic and technical elements firmly together. Boxed together here then are three of the most successful and influential film scores of modern Hollywood, work that draws as much on Williams' masterful sense of classical music history as it does his own well-studied melodic and arranging instincts. Each of the three double-disc collections here contains all of the music written for Star Wars: A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (and even Alfred Newman's intyroductory "Fox Fanfare"), newly upgraded via Direct Stream Digital remastering that adds stunning new presence and clarity to Williams' rousing, epochal scores. Each chapter also features a lenticular 3-D cover and newly designed fold-out film poster, as well as encoded disc features allowing online access to elaborate new Star Wars screen savers; the ultimate musical compendium of the original Star Wars triptych. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfull Collection to have but no Orignal Art Work........2007-06-21

This is without any doubt the best musical presentation for STAR WARS trilogy with excellent remastering. Also, wonderfull music to listen.

It was arranged in same order as the movie and i think it has all the music from the films and more. Also it contain the original 20th Century Fox Fanfare recording for each movie which is rare to listen. In this way you can listen and enjoy the way was the music is recorded for each movie at that time without any enhancement, and that for Star Wars truly music lovers.

The only drawback i found that is lacking the orignal art work for each movie which are the finest and best ever. There are wonderful posters from different type, style A, B, C, and advanced, which i was expecting to see them again here or somewere els.

I was hoping and wishing from ( A Long Time Ago ... ) that they release again same original recording for Star Wars and Empire strikes back when they released first time in 1977 and 1980. I don't know why it has been decline ever since. At that time each movie released its sound track in two album with different and excellent arrangement. I believe this is a perfect arrangement and better in term of music listening. Im just hoping releasing them again with finest remastering.

4 out of 5 stars A fountain of youth for a Star Wars geek.......2007-02-13

It has been a long time since I last dared to take out my old Star Wars LP, with its well remembered skips and pops. Now, thanks to the Boxed set of the Star Wars Trilogy, I can listen to it again as it was intended to sound, and as often as I like. It is like revisiting an old friend, but there are differences: for one, there is more music, and it has been restored to its actual running order, unlike the LP which cut and spliced a bit to create rounder, perhaps more balanced listening. But for a true fan of the films, it is deeply satisfying to hear the score in its proper order and entirety, even if at times it can ramble on or shift more suddenly than a typical symphonic work. That being said, John Williams is a master at composing for film, so that even taken out of context it is beautifully listenable.
The major drawback to the boxed set is the complete lack of liner notes or any kind of commentary--one of my favorite features of the old LP were the inserted notes. So much thought went into the score that it demands commentary. Admittedly, I haven't yet been able to access the "unlock and go" feature on the internet, so perhaps the lack of liner notes on the box is rectified there. Another surprise, given the fact that there is room on the CD's to include more music, alternate takes (and even an extended secret "inner groove" on the first disc), is that in the case of episode 6, music that was added for the new edition of the film is included but not the music it replaced. Admittedly this was the least interesting music in the soundtracks, namely the "pop" music in Jabba's palace and the Ewok's chant at the end, but for the sake of completion, it should also have been included. A minor quibble, and more than made up for by the inclusion of the 20th century fanfare and the second Cantina track.
All-in-all, this boxed set is a must for anyone for whom the original trilogy was a special part of their youth. It will instantly bring you back to that state of wonder when you first saw the films, and on repeated listens it will continue to reveal the genius of John Williams.

5 out of 5 stars This is more of a description of the music than a review for this particular set, really . . ........2006-12-30

A New Hope:

What to say about Star Wars? It's all too known to say very much. But let me just point out a few things, instead. The Main Title track, after the fanfare calms, is quoting 'Mars' from Holst's 'The Planets'. "The Dune Sea of Tatooine" is a tribute to Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. The bonus track contains several different takes on the Main Title if you sit around and wait--there is a LOT of silence 'til it starts, but it's fascinating to hear the subtle differences from take to take. With "May the Force Be With You" and "Princess Leia's Theme", we have the beginning of the lovely, melodic leitmotifs we have come to associate with Star Wars music.

The Empire Strikes Back:

Both the best movie and the best soundtrack of the original trilogy, in my opinion. Whether or not you agree about the movie, the music here really is the best, from a professional standpoint and not just an "it's pretty!' one. Three huge things happen in this movie, musically: "Han Solo and the Princess", the love theme which is based on "Princess Leia's Theme"; "Yoda's Theme"; and, last but certainly not least, "The Imperial March". I believe the two biggest, most recognisable themes of the saga are the Main Title theme and "The Imperial March", which was constructed from half-developed "evil" cues from 'A New Hope', and also Chopin's "March funèbre, Lento" from 'Piano Sonata No.2 in B flat minor' (trust me, you know it).

The Return of the Jedi:

The only new themes (there are plentiful delectable motifs) to come out of this movie are "Parade of the Ewoks", which nearly succeeds in making the Ewoks themselves cute, and the extremely luscious "Luke and Leia". "The Emperor's Theme", introduced in 'Empire Strikes Back', is emphasised, and voices lace over the epic duel between father and son (not nearly as stimulating as the music or the fight scenes of the prequel trilogy). It is true, there are some slightly embarrassing tracks ("Threepio's Bedtime Story", "Jedi Rocks"), but somehow all is set right by the power of "Victory Celebration" (which evokes much the same in its feeling of somewhat tragic triumph that "Now We Are Free" does in 'Gladiator'). It closes the saga perfectly (and we won't be mentioning the Yub Nub song, thank you very much).

I might also mention that Star Wars themes do wonders for hearing intervals. And that knowing the intervals make relationships between themes throughout the saga that much more interesting.

5 out of 5 stars You can feel the Force around you........2006-08-31

I have never owned these before and I bought them for a SW Themed Party but constantly play them, if you are a fan these are a must own, especially since they include both end tracks for EP.6 the Ewok OE and the new Calypso one from the SE. Finally all of these Disc's are CD Text Capabile.

3 out of 5 stars Quality could be better.......2006-02-14

This is the best way to get the soundtrack collection of the three original films. With some minor exceptions, the tracks are in the same sequence of the films so you can follow the story unfold the same as watching the movies.
The sound quality does leave a bit to be desired overall. Granted there is only so much that can be done from the original recordings, but it seems as though they tried to over-remaster most of the tracks and did not do enough with others. This has left many of the scores sounding thin, bright and shallow. For the price of this boxed set, I would have expected a little bit more time put into making this collection sound better. Ideally, having the entire saga re-performed would have likely offered the best solution for audio purists, though likely not capatured exactly the same feel as the original performance.
Essentially, this boxed set is a trade off between having the original scores of Episodes 4 through 6 and sacrificing the overall sound quality that a John Williams performance deserves.
For a point of reference, my sound system is a B&W and McIntosh combination with the speakers being the same model as what was used in nearly all recording studios at the time of the later half of these films.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing, awe inspiring and the stuff of legends!.......2006-10-02

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Howard Shore's magnificent score for the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy? A soundtrack can define the whole atmosphere of a film, and this fully orchestrated work certainly does that with sweep, splendor and wonder, alternately humanizing (hobbit-izing?) the characters, imbuing the landscape with magic and capturing the world-shaking impact of events of mythic proportions. And this was no easy task considering the iconoclastic status of the story and the superb quality of Peter Jackson's filmmaking. This is a truly a soundtrack for the ages--a fitting accompaniment to a film for the ages! Every aspect of life, from the extreme to the mundane, is captured in this music. Listening to it can make every remembered moment of the movie come alive again in your mind, from the most horrific battle to the smallest moment of humor or kindness. I think "The Fellowship of the Ring" is my favorite of the three "Lord of the Rings" soundtracks. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the lighter moments, like the sweet, simple hobbit theme, with the grander and more menacing sections of the music. What impressed me most as I watched "The Fellowship of the Ring" was how scary the music was when the hobbits were being pursued. Those relentless drums and eerily screaming drums made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, even though I knew the story like the back of my hand and knew for a fact that the poor little heroes would manage to escape. But the music truly made me wonder otherwise ... Now that's good composition! And the fact that the filmmakers chose to include background music in so many of the scenes, almost continuously ... well, that's just good filmmaking! The other impressive thing about Howard Shore's score is how the voicing and the repeating musical motifs tie the whole thing together, like the finest of symphonies. In "The Two Towers" all the familiar themes from the first sound track return, reinvented as need be to link the films together while adapting to new developments in the action and the story. In this album, I particularly like the hardanger fiddle-infused theme for the Rohirrim, the Viking-like horse-riders of the steppes, and the ponderous, quirky music for Treebeard, the walking, talking tree. I would have enjoyed a bit more of these distinctive elements, which lend levity and diversity to a sometimes depressing and overwhelmingly intense body of music. Here, they make all-too-brief appearances, at least from a listener's point of view. But soundtracks are ultimately slaves to the script, and in conjunction with the film itself, the timing and phrasing of Shore's music is impeccable. Mysterious, menacing, folksy or heroic, the total effect is utterly convincing and utterly transporting. The battle scenes in "Return of the King" are incredible visuals, blending live action and computer-generated imagery so seamlessly and densely that it boggles the mind. But what would they be with only screams and snorts and scuffles to give them voice? It's Shore's frenetic, string-laden, brass-filled, drum-spurred fury that truly gives them life, waxing, waning and cueing the audience as to when the greatest menace is about to threaten the war-weary heroes. The musical themes from the first two movies continue to be developed here, wending their way in and out of expanded interpretations whose dense complexity rivals that of Tolkien's story, not to mention Peter Jackson's filmmaking itself. Jackson chose well when he picked Shore as his score writer. Very, very well! Make sure to get the extended edition DVDs of the movies themselves, with hours and hours of fascinating commentaries and behind-the-scenes documentaries about the making of the films. Truly a bargain at any price! For more seminal soundtracks, try John William's defining scores for the "Star Wars" series and Basil Poledouris's spectacular score for the original "Conan the Barbarian." You can hear more hardanger fiddle music (the inspiration for the Rohan/Rohirrim themes) in the work of Scandinavian fiddler Annbjorg Lien or any of the varied releases from the NorthSide label. Finally, for authentic music from bygone ages, why not try the real thing? There are many fine early music groups out there. Here's just a sampling: Anonymous 4 (pure-voiced sacred chant by four women), The Baltimore Consort (jaunty popular music from the Renaissance), David Munrow's Early Music Consort of London (simply perfection), Christian Mendoze's Musica Antiqua (lively, percussive Renaissance dance music), The Toronto Consort (great variety), Ensemble Unicorn (worlds of fun!), Wolgemut (brash buzzies and bagpipes with attitude), and the magical early/folk fusion of Cantiga and Burlap Lute. Have some fun with them and live your own fantasy!

5 out of 5 stars Surprise Stress Reliever.......2005-07-07

This soundtrack is absolutely awsome! I had heard pieces of it, but did not listen to all of it until this past May. I ended up with two of my best friends sitting on our high school stage about two hours before our musical listening to this soundtrack and eating Chinese food. By the time we were finished, we had listened to a ton of the soundtrack and were probably five times calmer than we had been when we started. We ended up doing the same thing the following night, and have decided to make it a tradition.

5 out of 5 stars BIGGER AND GREATER SOUNDTRACKS EVER!.......2005-02-01

This box receives lots of music prizes, including 3 Oscars: one for LOTR, The Fellowship Of The Ring, another one for LOTR, The Return Of The King and an Oscar for Best Song for Into The West performed by Annie Lennox, featured in the late soundtrack movie! It deserves all of the prizes just because Howard Shore put ALL his heart and mind in doing such a magnificent soundtrack trilogy!
I hope - as announced in 2004 - they will release a super box set with 9 CDs with ALL the music recorded for the theatrical releases of The Lord Of The Rings movies - 2 CDs for The Fellowship Of The Ring + 3 CDs for The Two Towers + 3CDs for The Return Of The King + 1 CD with rarities with comments by Howard himself...

Till then let's listen to The Aviator Soundtrack and dream with The King Kong soundtrack that Howard is working on since 2004!

Just to remember how good and great and magnificent this trilogy soundtrack (and movies) are... here, some of the names that sing and play in it:
Howard Shore with The London Symphony Orchestra, Enya (almost an Oscar for May It Be), Elizabeth fraser of The Cocteau Twins, Hillary Summers, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Sheila Chandra, Emiliana Torrini, Ben Del Maestro, Renée Fleming, Sir James Galway, Billy Boyd, Viggo Mortensen, Annie Lennox, and lots of other musicians and choirs from England and New Zealand!

Thank you very much Howard Shore for this memorable, universal and unforgettable music!

5 out of 5 stars Midle-earth re-created..........2004-12-23

Music of The Lord of the Rings is another great success along with the film and the book. Howard Shore re-created the Middle-earth with his music by composing different themes for each different race as Tolkien intended in the book. For example, for Hobbits we have cheerful, peaceful emotions; for Elves we hear women voices with higher learning, timelessness and mystical features; for Dwarves we have dominant male voices with aggressiveness; for Isengard and Orcs we hear metallic instruments which represent the Industrial Age of Middle-earth; for Rohan and Gondor we have heroic sound with Celtic and Welsh touches and for Ents, it is mainly dominated by wooden instruments with slow-movements.

For the songs, all of the Middle-earth languages have been used in themes namely Quenya, Sindarin, Andunaic, Dwarvish, Old English and Black Speech. The other and the most successful thing about The Lord of the Rings music is, we always get the sense of historic aspect of it rather than seeing it a production of 21st century. The movements exactly belongs to the Middle-earth itself from the history, it is "the music" of people of Middle-earth...

Will there any re-makes of the films in the future? Well, why not? But there is one thing which won't happen again; there will be "one" and "only" The Lord of the Rings Symphony...

The Godfather saga may have its roots in pulp fiction, but the vision of director Francis Ford Coppola turned the story of Don Vito Corleone into an epic, multigenerational metaphor for modern American society and its place in the world. Coppola's musical choices were equally sage; aged Italian scoring legend Nino Rota's mournful solo trumpet theme ("Godfather Waltz") would become both a crucial, emotional link in all three films and an enduring modern icon on a par with the themes to Star Wars and Jaws.

This compendium gathers key themes from the Godfather trilogy in modern rerecordings, by conductor Paul Bateman and the Prague Philharmonic, that are sonically pristine and faithful to the originals. Utilizing the rich musical heritage of his native Italy (and occasionally evoking memories of his great collaborations with Fellini), Rota's Godfather music would ultimately net him his only Oscar ®, for Godfather II. Carmine Coppola, the director's father, supplements Rota's work with music that's more distinctly ethnic, while the prelude from Italian classical composer Pietro Mascagani's masterful opera Cavalleria Rusticana becomes a crucial element in Godfather III, filling the void left by Rota's passing in 1979. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Noticeably different from the original soundtrack, but that doesn't make it any less fantastic........2006-11-10

When I first reading the reviews to this Soundtrack collection, I was a bit skeptical, as I read many reviews which mentioned the differences among this collection and the original soundtracks. Being a huge fan of the films and their music, I was a bit nervous about my purchase, but figured how bad could it sound? It's the Godfather!

However, when I got the CD in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised. While I did notice some differences (Tarantella sounds somewhat changed) between the Collection songs and the original analogs, they were not a change for worse. These tracks produced the same, if not greater emotional response than those from the films.

Listening to the whole soundtrack is a great experience from beginning to end for fans of the films and their music, and I absolutely praise the Prague Philharmonic orchestra, Crouch End Festival Chorus, and conductor Paul Bateman for their excellent transition of the original work into this 30th Anniversary collection.

If you like the music from the films, get this disc!

4 out of 5 stars pensieri da Staciella.......2004-06-29

2 out of 5 stars Do not confuse music you love with rendition you won't.......2003-11-11

I would not like to repeat what another reviewer said there: this is no original soundtrack. It is a very professional - and very uninspired - job by Prague Philarmonic who might have followed the music sheet but they lost the magic.

Yes, the tunes are memorable and, right from the first movements, they evoke the ghosts of complex cinematic imagery that are so deeply ingrained in the mind of anyone who loves this film. But the magic is gone. You know it's not THE soundtrack, and you've heard the real thing so many times.

The truth is that if you had Pavarotti to sing classic songs of The Rolling Stones, you would be disappointed with the result - despite the fact that Luciano has a much better voice than Mick Jagger.

Those artists who recorded the original soundtrack 30 years ago in Hollywood - and who remembers their names today? - were probably not as accomplished as the Prague Philarmonic. But they created the real thing, and therefore this cover disc will forever be no more than nice background music. That's all I use it for.

5 out of 5 stars Great Quality.......2003-07-15

I bought this after watching the movies for the first time, and listened to it, without noticing any difference. I just went, "what an amazing remastering job", then I saw that they were re-recorded. I never thought there was that big a difference when watching the movies over and over, and I really scrutinize re-recordings generally(like those done for Star Wars).

I bought the regular Godfather 1 cd after this, and I've hardly touched it since I bought it. I think this Godfather Trilogy is far superior in audio quality and performance. I think it has more feeling then the originals.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing performance of classic Godfather music..........2003-01-09

I am a die-hard Godfather afficianado and I was terribly disappointed in this CD. When I purchased it, I didn't realize it was not a recording of the original soundtrack from the movie. Instead, it is a reproduction of the songs by The City of Prague Philharmonic. The performance is technically accurate, but does not at *all* convey the emotion of the movie's moments. It's as if the musicians studied the score, but never saw the movie. In track after track, the rhythms are not quite right, the mood is not set, etc, which is jarring for someone who knows the movies well. If you just want to hear some pleasing music, buy this CD. If you intend to buy a CD of The Godfather soundtrack in order to re-experience the magic of the Godfather movies themselves, look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars Donna Summer: A LOVE TRILOGY (1976).......2006-11-16

In March of 1976, Donna Summer released her third album entitled, A LOVE TRILOGY, another album for Donna to further her style in the Disco era. This is an album not to miss, for it is an awesome album that goes deeper into the sound of Disco.

TRY ME, I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT
The first single from the album. This 18:00 (eighteen minutes) track is nothing short of a classic. This is an awesome tune, and you can really dance away the night with this track.

Intro: PRELUDE TO LOVE
This track is the start of the third track, which is entitled "Could It be Magic". It only plays out to a minute, six seconds, which is the very start of "Could It Be Magic".

COULD IT BE MAGIC
The second single from the album. Back in 1973, Barry Manilow had originally written and recorded this track, and it was released as his first-ever single. His original recording of "Could It Be Magic" is a power ballad that should have been well-received by the public, but for some reason, it wasn't. Donna Summer was the first person (if I'm not mistaken) to record a cover of Barry Manilow's track. Her rendition is this here Disco-enthused version, where after she released it as the second single from this album, it became a huge hit for Donna Summer. Barry Manilow, after hearing Donna Summer's rendition and the response she received from it, wound up taking his recording of the song back into the studio and remixing the music to the track (without touching his vocals), where he then re-released it as a single, where it was better received than the first time round. This is a great cover version and it is one of my all-time favorite songs (both from Barry Manilow and Donna Summer).

WASTED
Great.

COME WITH ME
Awesome.

Hmm, the second album from Donna Summer to have no more than five or six tracks on it. Kind of odd, but however the case maybe, this album ranks up there with LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY, and it shows that Donna Summer was well on her way to becoming the Queen of Disco.

5 out of 5 stars How About A Nice STEAMY ORGASM FOR DINNER???.......2006-05-26

Love Trilogy is one of the sexiest albums i have ever heard and it finds Ms. Summer in full steamy siren mode.
"Try me,I know we can make it" grooves along with hot dripping sensuality and captures Donna singing a seductive breathy falsetto throughout and then bulking up her vocals to tell you that "we can make it if we try".
Are you willing to make it with Donna or is it too much for you to handle????
"A prelude to love" finds Donna confessin',pleadin' and panting away in hot smoldering ecstacy which leads into the classic rendition of "Could it be magic".
Donna gives this Manilow classic a sexiness mixed with a contained yet fragile urgency that the original never had and you can feel the desperation and heartfelt sincerity in Donna's delivery resulting in one of her most compelling performances.
"Wasted" is a great little funky dance number which will get your feet shuffling and your body grooving and "Come with Me" closes out this love trilogy with a shake your booty get down and boogie disco vibe that's so hot that you'll need to call your lover to release that fire scorching from within you or to cool down those family jewels...
OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Simply put, Love Trilogy is a finger lickin' lip smackin' disco classic and is without a doubt the SEXIEST Donna Summer album ever.
So get those fingers walking and let the music do the talking....

O.F.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Stuff!!! :).......2006-03-14

Why I didn't purchase this when it first came out,I'll never know! This is probably one of Donna's stongest albums that she has recorded. From "Try Me...to Come With Me"each song has a wonderful sound and just fun to dance to.I have almost every one of her albums/CD's. Just waiting for her to put something new out! I did purchase the CD single "I Got Your Love" and was very pleased.Thank you,Donna, for all the wonderful dance music you've contributed to the music scene and has been a part of my life for all these years! I love to love you baby! :) If you don't have this CD,purchase it! It's great!

5 out of 5 stars A Love Trilogy.......2006-01-09

One of Miss Summer's early nice works. I really like especially,"Try me..." which is over 17 minutes. All of the cuts are good, too.The CD itself is of superb quality. Disco music lovers must have this album.

5 out of 5 stars One of Donna's Best.......2005-09-08

If you are a Donna Summer disco lover, then this cd is one of the best.

Album Description

Hard rock producer Paul O'Neill, renowned for his work with Aerosmith and Savatage, teamed with the latter band's Jon Oliva to create Trans-Siberian Orchestra, an inspired fusion of classical music and rock-opera pageantry. Their first two releases are visionary and timeless Christmas-themed concept albums, spotlighting lead guitars and classical string sections alike, and they became instant contemporary holiday classics. 2004's The Lost Christmas Eve, which completes their symphonic rock Yuletide triology, underscores Billboard's recent comment that TSO "seems to be turning into a Christmas tradition."

Bought this as a gift after seeing TSO in concert. My friend loved it!

5 out of 5 stars Trans Siberian Orchestra.......2007-03-30

The DVD and Cd's are really good, Seeing TSO live is the only way it gets better. The Christmas DVD is a new twist on the classic christmas story.

5 out of 5 stars Putting the magic back into Christmas music.......2007-02-19

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is the most meaningful use of Christmas-themed music that I have ever had the pleasure to hear. This collection, which includes much of their studio work and a phenomenal DVD, is the perfect introduction to the world of TSO, that you'll find yourself listening to all year round.

TSO's music satisfies the 'theme-album' classical prog-rock lover in me (in the tradition of ELP, ELO, Yes and others), but more importantly, it gives the gift of putting the magic back into Christmas music. I had tears in my eyes when I first viewed the DVD, which gives you an idea of how they perform their shows, in the form of a touching story coupled with unbelievable performances.

The only thing better than having this collection would be to see their shows. Their amazing light show/stage productions easily pick up where Pink Floyd left off, and I never thought this was possible. It goes beyond that, and takes you back to your childhood, when the fantasy of lights, sounds and storytelling was still met with awe and wonder. It's ageless, timeless, and yet a product of modern technology that anyone of any age will find fascinating.

5 out of 5 stars Great Set.......2007-02-16

This set is the one to buy if you like Trans-Siberian Orchestra(TSO). My only complaint is that Amazon doesn't label the DVD that comes with it, they just call it an extra DVD, I thought it'd have behind-the-scenes info and stuff like that, so I bought TSO's DVD movie, The Ghost Of Christmas Eve, the only problem with that is, the "extra DVD" in this trilogy is in fact The Ghost Of Christmas Eve. So, if you, like me, want to buy all the discs that TSO has out, then don't buy The Ghost Of Christmas Eve separately, it comes with this trilogy.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas Trilogy -Trans-Siberian Orchestra.......2007-02-15

Loved the 3 CDs. Each CD tells a story and having the lyrics helps you to understand the story in the music. The bonus DVD is awesome, fantastic graphics. Definitely worth the money I paid for it.
