Very Good.......2002-03-20

... there are alot of covers of covers, and sure it doesn't make all that muchy sense, but really, who cares! This cd is quality and there is no denying that. ... the musicans who perform on this set have the ability to pull off just about anything. 4 stars as a Naz tribute, 5 stars for the music.

Too Many Cover Songs!.......2001-08-20

I'm a Naz fanatic, and I had high hopes for this CD. It's not bad, it's just that out of 12 songs, five of them are covers of covers that Nazareth covered. In the case of "Love Hurts" and "This Flight Tonight," that's okay. Both those songs were made famous by Nazareth, and even Joni Mitchell said of 'This Flight:' "That's a Nazareth Song."

However, Janis Joplin owns "Piece of My Heart." Even though she didn't write it, it's definitely her song. This song should not have appeared on this album. Nazareth's version wasn't even that good.

I just don't understand how a group of quite talented and intelligent musicians could decide to cover so many unoriginal Naz songs. Why cover "Ruby Tuesday," a Rolling Stones song, when there are so many other original Nazareth songs on "The Catch?" Why cover "My White Bicycle" when you can cover "Shainghai'd in Shainghai?" or "Whiskey Drinkin' Woman?"

The other songs are done well, particularly "May the Sunshine" and "Hair of the Dog," but the inclusion of so many covered covers is a slap in the face to a band who has given us over 30 years and hundreds of original songs.
