Album Description
Here we present the 2nd volume in this definitive history of singing legend Jackie Wilson. This second volume covers Wilson's unique readings of the 20th Century's greatest songs. With his unmatchable soaring tenor, Jackie could turn take on any song from any genre and make it his own, from Sinatra's 'My Way' to Jolson's 'My Yiddishe Momma' via Bacharach and David, Lennon and McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bobbie Gentry, Anthony Newley and Otis Redding. Edsel. 2006.

Amazing.......1999-02-21
The Bollweevils are one of the best bands to ever come out of chicago. This record is the stuff they did in the latter part of their existence as a band. It's absolutely incredible. Check out the song "Altered States" if you want to be blown away. And turn up your stereo as loud as possible. In a world of generic, unoriginal, bullsh*t "punk rock", this is the truest punk rock recording that has been released in a long time. If brilliant lyrics and music is your thing, this is for you.

"A true history of Rap".......2005-08-29
This compilation is one of the best ever made! KB compiled the best of the best, and made sure to give you the full, 12" versions (except for "JAZZY SENSATION"). The sound quality is incredible! These jams never sounded better! Nothing less than pure, classic Hip-Hop material!!
Part of an indespensible history series.......2001-07-20
Part 2 of an excellent overview of the origins and history of rap music. This volume has the earliest true rap hits, including 2 classics by Kurtis Blow himself and some tracks that have been unjustly forgotten. Great sound and terrific "insider" liner notes by Blow that put these tracks in their historical context.
From the Innocent Age of Rap.......2001-06-30
If you were a teenager at the time, you'll love this. These fun, funky tunes will remind (or educate, if you weren't there) you of the days when kids eagerly listened to the radio to await the newest rap records (since they were rare at the time) and you could play these around your parents without shame. The Treacherous 3's "Feel The heartbeat," Jazzy 5's "Jazzy Sensation," Funky 4+1 More's "Rappin and Rocking the House" (unfortunately, this is not the complete 16 min version), "Funk You Up" and "Monster Jam" by the Sequence (featuring Angie Stone),etc. will all make you feel good to be alive-before NWA and those gangster idiots who followed destroyed rap music!
clean rapp.......2000-01-02
I have been a fan of curtis blow far many years. This is a must for the old school
Brings you back to a time where you want to go back.......1999-07-17
This CD is a classic on my records. Everytime I listen to this CD I think back when it had just came out, EVERYONE wanted to know the words, they would play it over, and over again. A real "time warp"!

A Trip Back in Time.......2000-04-08
Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest and participating in the Tacoma music scene with the Regents from 1963 to 1967, I found this album to be a wonderful trip down memory lane. The album had a collection of familiar songs, plus some I never got to hear before, possibly because as with so many other young men in those days, I was taken away from the Pacific Northwest by the draft in mid-1967. I can't wait to hear Vol 3 if that is ever produced. SamCarlson@TheRegents.net
A great showcase of great Northwesr Bands of the Garage era!.......1999-08-28
In listening to this cd I really traveled back to my youth. Hearing Little Sally Tease by Don and the Goodtimes and The Owl and the Pussycat by the Bards made me 14 again. I grew up in the Seattle Tacoma area and remember many of the bands here. If you really want a look at the garage bands of the Sea-Tac area during 1963-67 this is the cd for you. The liner notes are a great help for the history of the bands . There is to be a further release for the psychedelic era bands. I cannot wait.

Customer Reviews:
Mariachi Roots Music.......2000-06-12
My brother gave this to me knowing I am a lover of Mariachi music. I have a pretty extensive collection but this is very unique because these guys are originals. These guys were very popular in the 30's and 40's and were considered the premier group of it's era. These are rare recordings that document the evolution of the Mariachi. This group was responsible for popularizing the trumpet (Jesus Salazar) and the first to become popular in cinema and radio. Of course now the trumpet is an acceptable part of the Mariachi but then it was considered going against tradition. Here you'll find huapangoes, son abajeno, pasodobles and canciones and corridos that are timeless wonders. Some of the more popular songs are here like "Guadalajara" and "El Pasajero" but there are some esoteric gems that you may never have heard. The accompanying booklet is informative as well. The 24 tracks here are not to be missed by any Mariachi afficionado, no studio wizardry here just plain Mariachi roots music.

Customer Reviews:
More Cadence classics.......2002-01-01
Second of two CDs sampling songs from Archie Bleyer's Cadence Records label. Following the lead of volume one, among the 14 charting tracks included, are major hits from the labels' mainstays - Andy Williams, the Everly Brothers, Johnny Tillotson and the Chordettes. More big hits come in the form of Lenny Welch's exceptional "Since I Fell For You" and Bleyer's own version of the Ames Brothers' cutesy "The Naughty Lady Of Shady Lane". Rounding out the repertoire are Jamaican-born pianist Don Shirley's "Water Boy", a couple of Eddie Hodges pimply teen tunes, Link Wray's dark instrumental, "Rumble" and Charlie McCoy's minor pop hit, "Cherry Berry Wine". Sound quality is excellent overall with some hiss on some of the older tracks, not to be unexpected given the vintage of the original recordings. The eight-page liner notes booklet provides backround on the performances and some insight into the label's history. While a tad stingy on track count, this is a well-executed, diverse sampling of one of the 50's small but prolific independent record labels.
