Led by Zeke Graves (formerly of Three Stigmata) and Robert Biggers (of The White Octave) along with a cast of friends, Cold Sides gives us an album that is not trendy nor self-consciously retro, but it does have soul. Their self-titled debut hints at southern landscapes and textured worlds, drawing more from Appalachian Folk music than from the "Chapel Hill sound." This is surely one of the most unexpected and refreshing releases to come out of the area in quite some time.
