If there's any doubt that '70s-style jazz-fusion is back, Chambers squashes it here on this brilliantly recorded, flawlessly executed session. Thirty years ago, there were various names for this kind of jazz-rock and funk. The Brecker Brothers called it "skunk funk." George Duke said it was "snake funk in a dunk," and Stanley Clarke once tagged a tune "Lopsy Lu." Whatever it’s called, it's the highest level of jazz proficiency blended with the energy of rock and a sophisticated form of R&B or funk. It's no wonder that the only cover tunes on this smoking nine-song set were written by James Brown ("Talkin' Loud and Saying Nothing") and Sly Stone ("In Time"). Chambers, who played with George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic as a teenager and currently plays for Santana, is that rare power drummer who has finesse, but never let's you forget he's on the kit. And with the Breckers, John Scofield, and monster bassists Will Lee and Gary Willis among the high-energy fusion guests, no lover of that music can go wrong here. Every track is a highlight, but both "Groovus Interruptus," because the title is so perfect, and "Paris on Mine," which sounds like a tribute to guitar giant John McLaughlin, can be labeled as special. --Mark Ruffin

Gang green influences here...which isn't a bad thing.......2004-09-24

These Maine (of all places) punk/hardcore soldiers formed during the summer of 2001. Sine that time, they have been touring all over the New England area with bands like THE HOPE CONSPIRACY and STRIKING DISTANCE. Their album, "You Make Us Sick" under Bridge 9 Records is a disruptive, thrashing punk/hardcore album that represents a big old middle finger to anyone who might disagree with the punk doctrine of life. They play with drag strip speed that suddenly stops and then begins the process of ripping apart into a quick stint of abrasive hardcore breakdowns. Fused together with this format are the required mob style choruses and the occasional guitar lead. Structurally, the songs are relatively tight and they will no doubt create that buzzing sensation in your ears. There is quite a bit of noise to swallow in this 15 song, 15 minute blast of punk orchestration. They may not become the next big punk band but for those who want boundless punk with a severe attitude with the likes of GANG GREEN in mind, OUTBREAK has it dialed.

Amazing Album .......2006-10-25

This album is an amazing follow up to "You Make Us Sick"(also a great record). The lyrics have really come a long way, the production is great, the music is fast and full of energy. Definetly be sure to check out their live show! Two other great hardcore bands from Maine are Wake Up Call and On The Outside. Buy this record!

Grown up and great........2006-10-14

The previous albums from Outbreak were in one word, pissed! I'm not a fan of angry music, but I definitly could relate to Outbreak, and that was what got me hooked on the band. Failure, however is more "grown up". In this album Outbreak tackle certain issues of acceptance, friendship, overcoming problems, and not caring about what the world thinks of you. I say "they grew up" because their previous albums were just "trash talking" on people they don't like, but not totally out of control and to the point where the music was lame. This album though is a fresh, more positive start for an amazing band.
The best tracks on the album are "Down not out", "A.S.", and "Lessons Learned", but the whole album is terrific. However, one thing I would like to know about the album is, why is it called "Failure"? Outbreak has acomplished a lot and are definitly not failures at their music. For anyone that likes intense, raw, mature hardcore punk, this album is definitly for you.

Awesome Soundtrack, just like playing the Game.......2007-03-04

I am a HUGE RE4 fan and by far it is the best RE game. The soundtrack adds to the experience. It would be a different game if it didn't ave these sounds in the background. As I listen to the tracks I can see in my mind where I was in the game at the time. My favorite was the one where you just entered the village and the locals are onto you. I can still feel the walls around me in the room I hunkered down in blasting away at them until I killed enough to hear the church bells calling the villagers back to their hidding places. Excellent CD.

Good, though a little repetitive.......2006-04-13

This is a good soundtrack, it is an incredible game which it goes with, and "Regenerador" still makes me shiver and look around for a place to hide. It's just that creepy a song. The soundtrack will be instantly recognizable to a RE4 player, but if you don't have the game and thought the music would be cool, don't buy this instead of something you really want. it's a must ahve for a lover of the game, but if you just want it for the music, make sure it's cash you can burn, because only 1/3 or so of the songs are actually good on their own, without remembering the game to back them up.

The best things..........2002-09-10

"Gee, let's all run out and get a bootleg..."

While I sympathise with "die-hard" fans of film scoring (even I get pissy about the Armageddon score, half of which was actually released), I have to extole the virtues of this particular CD, however limited the content seems.

Outbreak, being a drama/suspense/action oriented film was easy on the action cues, and heavier on the somber notes of death, sadness and ultimate rejuvenation of hope etc. etc. However, two pivotal sequences stand out in the film, the Sutherland/Hoffman river bed chase and the standoff between Hoffman and Gooding Jr's helicopter and the bomber making its cataclysmic run on the recently saved town. The action cues that follow these events are well worth a listen and completely worth paying for the publically released CD (not to mention the privilege of owning fourteen seconds {5:52-6:06} of score contained within "They're Coming" which has appeared in countless movie trailers).

Other notables are "Motaba River Valley" and "Finding the Ship", which further illustrate Howard's ability to keep the pace with his short, but rousing, themes.

Not all of us can just snap our fingers and have the complete score to every film ever magically appear before us, so if you can find this CD, buy it. Buy it because it's good, because it's worth the money, and don't think twice. If you want the rest of the score, get the movie. Let's not forget what makes a score 50% of what it is.

Not Enough.......2001-12-11

Good music, but not enough of it

Almost as good as Waterworld.......2001-01-24

OUTBREAK came out in the same year that WATERWORLD did, and gained less attention, unfortunately. As far as the score(s) go, OUTBREAK is a watered-down (excuse the pun) version of Waterworld. That's not bad, and it's not James Newton Howard's fault either. The CD itself is only 30 min. in length. Many important cues in the movie were left out, making this a mediocre score. If you have Waterworld, don't bother with Outbreak. But if you've never heard JNH's music, this is a good first-buy.

Dennis Chambers is a monster. Giving this album only 1 star is a crime.

BIT OF A LETDOWN.......2005-11-12

I had high hopes when I purchased this CD and while it has it's moments I was hoping for more from Dennis. I have seen Dennis with John Scofield, Niacin, and CAB so I know fully well how phenomenal he is on the drums, which is why I expected more. Dennis is a powerhouse drummer with incredible chops and a superb feel for the groove, he can funk it up with anyone.

I am more impressed with his work with Mike Stern, Scofield, CAB, Niacin, etc, than I am with what is on this disc. Hopefully next time around Dennis comes out with guns blazing. This is a decent CD but not his best, simple as that. And yes, he still remains one of the most incredible drummers I have ever seen.

Dennis Chamber is THE Man!.......2005-08-14

Terrific album. Drumming albums can be very inconsistant especially if that drummer doesn't compose. The different composers on this album are apparently all pulling in the same direction and coupled with the vast experience of Mr Chambers this album is great fun. My favourite is 'Talking Loud And Saying Nothing' James Brown would be very proud. Buy it!

Dennis is one of the busiest drummer in the world.His musical backgrounds are so diverse,and his technique is superb.And this album is just like a Gary Wills solo album. The taste is just like a serious funky fusion album.Dennis does not show off his techniques here.Dennis is not a leader here,but only an organizer.Many stellar guests appear in this CD.This is a showcase of how Dennis developed his own career in the musical industry.This Cd demonstrates his ability to push the total sounds resourcefully.I recommend this to "TRIBAL TECH"fans in the world.Cool enough to kill the donkey smooth jazz music!

Do You Like Music?.......2003-06-07

If you like music then you'll love this CD from Dennis Chambers. It's brilliantly played and produced with a fat bass and drum sound as well as a crackling heat to the horn/guitar lines. There's some great keyboard work happening as well. I am not really sure what it is that they are putting in the water in Gloustershire UK but the previous reviewer (with due respect) needs urgent professional counselling if he can seriously only give this CD one star. There are many ho-hum jazz funk fusion records out there but this ain't ho-hum. The tunes are good and the playing is top notch. What the hell else do you need?

Excellent game music sound track.......2005-09-03

It includes most of music tracks you heard in the game, and you can listen to the complete song but not only some parts. The music is beautiful and great, it contains different elements in each song such as jazz, rock, classic...etc. It's not like common game music sound track, it's more like a music album. People who do not play this game will be also excited at the great music they made.

Any Resident Evil/Biohazard fan should have this album. The music is very good, even better then Code Veronica. It has all the music for the game including a great remix of the main title theme.
