Editorial Reviews

Product Description
When Mark O'Connor's last jazz album was released, Downbeat magazine wrote: "No doubt O'Connor can swing". He's a rosinated hot shot for sure". This new album, recorded before a live audience in New York, captures the electricity and nuance of performances that can only be described as spectacular. With this, O'Connor's third jazz album, he adds to the legacy imprinted so indelibly by his friend and mentor Stephane Grappelli. O'Connor's new material (called "cross-pollinated jazz) by one musician, including the firey "Gypsy Fantastic" and the eloquent "Fiddler Going Home" (dedicated to jazz great Claude "Fiddler" Williams) is destined to enter the repertoire.

Fisrt, is was at a great price including the shipping.
The cd is remenicent of the great Grappelli and Reinhardt duo. I did not know the connection until I read the notes. I often find live audience cd's annoying. This cd was edited well.
As for the performance. A jewel ! A must for jazz violin enthusiasts

4 out of 5 stars Awesome Violin Jazz.......2006-07-20

To my initial disappointment Live in New York did not have the same feel to it that In Full Swing had--partly because In Full Swing was recorded in a studio, and partly because the song selections have a different underlying feel. But it is still a great cd.
One of the songs, Anniversary, runs on and on and I usually just skip it when I listen.
The coolest--and hottest--song in the album is Gypsy Fantastic. I listen to this one enough times to make up for the skipped Anniversary.
The rest of the songs are good, though at least two of them are repeats from previous albums.
If this is your first time trying O'Connor's Hot Swing Trio, I'd get In Full Swing first; if you have listened to the other cd and like it, you will probably like this one too. Just don't expect a lot more of exactly the same stuff.

4 out of 5 stars Mark O'Connor - America.......2006-06-12

I heard Mark O'Connor play "America" on the violin and I am trying to find a CD with this music on it. Can someone help me?

I've listened and been familiar with Mark O'Connor for many years. Thought I'd give this one a try and I'm really glad I did. Very reminiscent of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli.
The recording is clean and the performance is impeccable. The song selection appeals to my tastes very well too.

1 out of 5 stars Mark O'Connors Jazz Facsimile.......2006-02-17

This is not Hot and it is in no way Swing...I like string bands, I wasn't expecting Louie Prima here but...this is beyond insulting to everything Jazz stands for. If you are young and just learning about swing...DISREGARD THIS MUSIC!!!! Mark O'Connor is a fine fiddle player but if you want hot swing music, you are looking in the wrong place. If, however, you have trouble sleeping, this will definitely cure your insomnia, which is never something I had previously associated with "Hot Swing".
