By Every Generation, his fourth album, Laws's writing and production was getting so sophisticated and R&B-oriented, that he was moved to United Artists Records. With writing and producing partner William Jeffrey, Ronnie produced state-of-the-art R&B gems with this album, using his own band plus siblings Hubert and Eloise Laws and guests Larry Dunn, Joe Sample and Patrice Rushen.

Ronnie Laws Plays For Every Generation.......2007-06-14

Well I must admit to me this album isn't quite as carefully crafted as Solid Ground but after all,this is from the late 70's and not the early 80's like that one.The production of 'Every Generation' is somewhat of it's time featuring a dramatic sound that pretty much borrows freely from funk and disco-rather the embodiment of the late 70's Blue Note sound.As far as strong songs and strong grooves this album has more to offer then not.In fact "O.T.B.A Law" and the monsters "Never Get Back To Houston" and "Tomorrow" thrown down some serious funk with the best of them.Much of the rest of the album follows the road of the EWF style "smooth groove" Ronnie Laws had been expert in crafting since his Pressure Sensitive days with "Always There",just updated for the later part of the decade.But even though this recording isn't exactly a funky blowout from beginning to end 'Every Generation' does provide a great listening experience for Ronnie Laws fans,as well as any fan of late 70's funk pop.

I am so glad this on CD. I have been looking for "Young Child" for so long. This song was released when I was 16, I recoreded this song on a green cassette tape off a local radio station. I wore the tape out before my brother decided to record over it, I was not pleased when this happened. Ronnie Laws is my favorite jazz musician and my finding this song has made me a happy camper.

I agree with all the 'good' things said by the others in their review of this album. It's not remastered, but the price is right, and it's a good quality transfer. Get your copy and relive the magic of 'Every Generation!' Five stars!!!!

P.S., I am patiently awaiting Mr. Laws "Flame" to be issued on CD!!!!

christmas has come.......2006-03-15

This is well past due one of the greats Ronnie laws, this is one of my favorites and i can;t tell you how happy i am that this cd is here and now back in print. I searched and searched all over and could'nt found this anywhere however i do have this album but i am so greatful that it is on cd now. I am a hugh fan of Ronnie laws, and to me this is the best yet he is the master and you can tell his music and style from any other sax player. when this album first came out my friend and i used to listen to it over and over and you will do the same every thing on the whole album is greatly written and the sound is second to none it just don't get any better than this. Ronnie, a lawyer fan forever. If you are a true lover of good music well this will be truely for you put it in your car cd player or your home music system sit back and enjoy this will take you back this is great stuff don;t you see

Their First Album.......2005-03-01

This was Aaron*Jeoffrey's first album. It's not quite as strong as their other albums, but everyone has to start somewhere. Their harmony's are always spot on, and the lyrics always strong, but this album is probably only for big fans of A*J. Look for the original version of Some Kind of Lady on this album.

This album is subtitled The Best of the New Generation, and with good reason. The liner notes read like a Who's Who of the current generation of female blues artists, from the deservedly famous Rory Block performing "Gone Woman Blues" to Lucinda Williams taking a bluesy turn (with Taj Mahal) on "Going Back Home." Debbie Davies, formerly a guitarist in Albert Collins's band, takes her turn with "Livin' on Lies," and Saffire (their full moniker is the Uppity Blues Women) get sassy with "Don't You Tell Me." These women have talent, style, and attitude to spare. As Liz Mandeville Greeson sings in her contribution to this album, "Look at this, look at this!" --Genevieve Williams

If James Taylor sang gospel...........2005-10-19

he'd sound a lot like Jim Cole. Plenty of mellow acoustic guitar and easy to sing melodies on this one with a dash of country flavor at times.

HIGHLIGHTS:
The harmonica on "Since You Rescued Me" adds a jazzy lilt to its redemption theme. The title track is a travelogue through time that asserts the steadfast nature of Christ's sacrificial love in an ever-changing world. ("Let my generation see/There is hope for our tomorrows/looking back at Calvary") "There is a Love" is one of the tunes where the James Taylor resemblance is most pronounced. ("There's a road that's hardly taken/that I'm taking just the same/And it's bound to make a difference/so I heard a wise man say..") "Wayward Son" is a rare break in mood: a guitar charged country/rock retelling of the Prodigal son's story.

LOWS:
"I Can Trust in You" is a duet with Christian country artist Bruce Carroll. The mediocre ditty about leaning on God for help just never catches fire. The tale of a believer drifting away from Christ in "First Love" is awash in strings and rather flat lyrically. The verses are decent, but the hook isn't enough of a payoff. ("Return/Return to your first love/Return/Return to your first love")

BOTTOM LINE:
James Taylor fans who also like Christian music are the obvious fanbase here, but if you enjoy acoustic singer/songwriter material you'll probably dig him too.

What an awesome album! Everything about it is great - the music, the lyrics, and especially the voice. And all the music is what HE'S written. God has truly blessed this man. Trust me, buy this album and you WON'T be disappointed!

This entire CD is refreshing, up-lifting, and just down right pleasant to listen to. My wife and I first heard Jim Cole perform on a TV program. We then did some research to find out what recordings he had available. After buying and listening to "Every Generation" I know I'll buy every CD Jim Cole releases.

This set is an upbeat, inspirational glorification of Christ. Jim Cole is an excellent storyteller.
