Very poor French.......2006-03-08

It was immediately apparent that the woman singing has a very strong Spanish accent (note the rolling of the "r"s). I liked having the lyrics so I can sing the American songs in French to my kids but it's not worth $15.00. And unlike a lot of the kids toddler music, I can't tolerate any more than a couple of songs because the singer has a very high, bordering on screechy voice. Universe of Song-French is wonderful and I highly recommend that instead of this CD. This is truly a waste of money.

Great idea, very poor French!.......2005-10-17

I purchased two copies of this CD for my 4 year old twin daughters' classrooms after reading the reviews on this site. One of the teachers immediately put it on and, as a native French speaker, I was quite horrified to hear the singer's French version of each song. The children in the class reacted with great enthusiam because they recognized the songs in English, but the French was very hard to understand and the pronunciation was really not up to par. I wouldn't have purchased this CD if I had heard it ahead of time. I still gave it three stars because I love the concept of translating familiar English songs into a foreign language. I've been using this technique to teach the children in my daughters' classes French since last year and young children really respond well to that. If they used a native French speaker for the French parts this would be a superb CD.

Great bilingual CD!.......2005-08-27

This is a beautifully produced CD - the singer's voice is lovely and the music is very catchy. The CD includes bilingual lyrics so it is like having a bilingual book of nursery rhymes included "free." I highly recommend this product!

It's OK.......2005-08-12

Hi!

This CD is OK. The singer is very 'operatic' and not really accessible to my child. They don't include the lyrics so I can't sing along as I am a speaker of French as a Second Language and I had difficulty understanding what she was singing.

I have other language/song CD's that I like a lot better like "C'est Si Bon". A lot more fun and 'danceable' for small children.

Love the Global Village Kids series. We have 3 (French, German, Spanish), and would purchase more if we know of them.
Songs are familiar rhymes that my 5 year old sings in English. He tries to sing the song in the language that is playing. He begins to learn the foreign words with the words that he knows the song in English and teaches himself. He amuses himself as well as me. My 2 year old loves it too. He seems to calm down in the car when I turn in the CD. Great for travelling and doing my car errands. Educational for the kids. Worth it.
