For all the amazing behind-the-scenes details to Euge Groove's story, it's pretty much a straightforward, smooth jazz ride--catchy hooks, seductive rhythms, and an occasional splash of fiery horn doubling and tripling that brings saxist Steve Grove back to his days playing with Tower of Power. It's also highly intriguing how he resembles other sax players whom producer and hitmaker Paul Brown helped make successful. "Romeo & Juliet"--which smacks of Boney James's gently soulful flow--finds Grove's irresistibly catchy soprano melody soaring above a moody, atmospheric synth harmony line, as the programmed drums roll steadily beneath. Grove's rich, low-toned tenor line floating over the cool, chunky bass-driven groove of "Sneak a Peek" brings back warm memories of Sam Riney. The tune gets considerable color from a self-created horn section that urges the main melody line to greater heights. On the retro-soul-minded "Vinyl," Grove's emotional soprano surfs gracefully over a swirl of Danny Jacob's wah-wah guitar clicks and coproducer Michael Egizi's hypnotic and spacy synth swirls. For all his ubiquitousness and soulful demeanor, Paul Brown has been labeled "The Babyface of Smooth Jazz," so it's no surprise to find him producing a twist on the Babyface-composed Toni Braxton hit, "Another Sad Love Song," with Grove blending soprano and tenor in spots to make the chorus much more in your face than the verse. Grove shows more genuine emotion here and on the dramatic, gospel-tinged closer "The Last Song" than in most other places. Gospel? Did someone say Kirk Whalum?

Born 2 Groove is simply wonderful listening to the jazz music lover. You will enjoy EVERY track on the CD.
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!.......2007-06-28
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! describes my review of "Born 2 Groove". There isn't one song on the CD that I don't like. The order of the songs is perfect for listening too. I think Euge Groove outdid himself on this album, as impossible as that may seem, in light of the quality of his other albums. We have all of Euge Groove's music, enjoy it all, and it just depends what mood we are in as to which CD gets put into the player. We haven't stopped playing "Born 2 Groove" though since it was released. One other suggestion would be to go see Euge Groove live in concert if you get the opportunity. In addition to being a wonderful musician, he is clever and witty and a definite crowd pleaser. If you want to get up and dance at his concert, you won't be out of place. He is a phenomenal entertainer!
Euge has done it again!.......2007-06-20
Quite simply, another masterpiece. Euge has the proven formula for producing hit, after hit, after hit. His style is smooth, his songs are tight, and his concerts are awesome. This is yet another stellar CD. Thanks for giving your all, with every project Euge. Hurry and make it back to Houston for another live concert!
Smoothjazz.com Review.......2007-06-20
What a great album this is! It's Euge at his absolute best, rising still another notch on the groove meter and totally nailing this one. It's Paul Brown, with his fifth successful collaboration with Euge Groove in seven years, demonstrating beyond any doubt that he is the Smooth Jazz producer par excellence. As for the music, the title track (and first radio single) says it all... top 10 and still rising. What strikes me as I listen to BORN 2 GROOVE is that not only is it soulful, and not only does it display groove, panache and, yes, Euge's trademark funk, but it has more of... an indefinable vibe to it that is a reflection of the soul of the musician. I hesitate to say spiritual, but I think that's really what's going on here. Euge Groove is fulfilling his purpose in a really powerful, positive way. He's communicating with us like he was meant to, providing yet another collection of pure joy and good feelings, delivered in a classy, uplifting package that will become one of this genre's forever classics. Euge believes strongly that everyone comes into this world with unique abilities and special gifts. "If we are fortunate enough to have great people around us, those natural abilities can be nurtured along," he says. Euge Groove has the gifts, has surrounded himself with professionals who have the passion for using their gifts, and together they have created a truly outstanding collection of sax-driven Smooth Jazz. BORN 2 GROOVE rocks! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
Tasteful and unaffected........2007-06-19
With a pleasingly unaffected, natural-sounding delivery and a considerable talent for writing original songs ranging from soulful ballads to funky shuffles or relatively conventional standard-influenced material, Euge Groove has made another great recording with "Born 2 Groove".
The aforementioned range of his material is what immediately impresses but this eclecticism is entirely unforced, enabling him to express straightforward heart-on-sleeve emotion one minute ("I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know") and emulate the penchant for "gospel/R&B" songs the next ("Café del Soul" and "Religify") without any undue abruptness of transition.
The neat tastefulness of his bandmates and the controlled power of his arrangements help in this process. But overall it is the clear commitment and patent sincerity of Euge himself ("Baby If You Only New"), for instance, contains some of the most unaffected passages you're ever likely to hear in the current saccharine Smooth Jazz trend ), not to mention his sheer musicality and ability to deliver a song in a variety of modes and moods, that make this album so attractive.
Throughout, Euge's emotional saxophones (he is one of the surest-toned sax players currently operating and his playing is both subtle and assured) are artfully blended with striking, alternately delicate and robust orchestral colours and vocals ( the great Jeffrey Osborne and the former Temptations lead singer Ali "Ollie" Woodson perform on two tracks) so that each piece becomes an organic whole rather than (as too often in such projects) a too easy, sugary confection in which shimmering strings are the icing on a relatively bland jazz cake.
Intelligently paced like a well-arranged club set, this is his most personal statement to date as an artist and an assured recording from a musician to watch.

Soft touch, serious goooves........2007-03-07
Being that this is his 4th album and the fact that he has toured with the likes of Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Tower of Power (one of my all-time favorites), Richard Marx and Huey Lewis, Steven Eugene Grove, better known as Euge Groove, has been making noise on the scene for a minute. His latest effort, "Just Feels Right", will be one those CD's that you rotate from the car to the bedroom!
It's Euge's strongest album to date with relaxed funky grooves like 'Get Em Goin', the slower 'Chillaxin' and the heavier 'Straight Up'.
Peter White adds his distinctive acoustic guitar to the easy going "This Must Be For Real".
Recorded using real drums/bass, this CD harks backs to its Jazz Funk inspiration - and the year 1976.The groove is the key to the whole, with a mix of funk, smooth jazz, and what almost sounds like quiet storm popping in from time to time.
Whether you're cruising the FDR Drive, the PCH or down 20 West to B'ham, this is the perfect music vehicle to get you to your destination. From 'Ballerina Girl' and '' to Euge's interpretation of 'Just My Imagination', he will have you in serious groove.
Then, to create a nice bedroom mood, lay back to either the title track, 'This Must Be For Real', '12:08 AM' or 'Chillaxin'' (a love-making song if there ever was one) and the night (or day) will be complete. Seemingly reminiscent of many of his contemporaries (see Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Steve Cole, Joshua Redman, etc.), Euge is in some great company, yet forges a sound all his own that helps him to stand apart. For all the grown folks, this will also be a good choice for your parties!
One of his best.......2007-02-07
If you are a fan of Tower of Power, and loved their sax melodies, then you will love Euge Groove. He has toned down most of his songs for smooth jazz, but a few still remind one of his days with tower of power. I wanted to fill out my collection of his albums so I purchased two of his previous albums.
APTLY TITLED!!.......2006-09-22
I always like it when you can buy a disc and it has multi-tasty tracks on it. This one has some head boppin' tunes on it like "Get 'em goin'" (this cut has a little 70's funk on it). "Chillaxin" will get your fingers snapping too! As I was listening to the various cuts, "Straight Up" jumped up and surprised me as well. For you old heads, the cover of "Just my Imagination" will be enjoyable to you as well. There is a lot of Sax appeal here (I've always found the Sax to be sexy, especially here). Anyone who enjoys contemporary jazz will enjoy this CD.
Smooth Jazz the way it SHOULD be!!!!!!!.......2006-07-12
The reason I love this cd so much is that Euge Groove didn't clutter it up with unnecessary vocals. I listen to jazz for the music. To me when a vocal type of song comes on a cd that is primarily instrumental, it is subpar. I end up usually hitting the skip button. It's a waste! This cd is pure instrumental- and Euge Groove's saxaphone playing is so sweet and smooth, it's pure enjoyment! Not a bad or subpar song on the entire cd.
The previous cd he made, "Livin Large", had that rap song "thankuforlettinme...ect ect" twice on it, and that is the kind of stuff I don't care for- I'm glad he didn't do that on this cd.
I read the intro Euge wrote about how he was inspired to make this cd based on what the 70's were like musically, and instrument wise. He made a great cd, good job!
Euge does it again!.......2006-05-17
Brilliant artist......that about covers it! He just keeps getting better and better!! I highly recommend this CD to smooth jazz lovers.

Excellent! Romantic, sensual...breathtaking!! Who is this guy?.......2007-01-24
All I can say is that I came across this CD by chance/mistake. I had never heard of Euge Groove, I listened to the samples, bought the CD and realized that this was one of the best "mistake" investments I've ever made!!!
This CD is awesome!! His latest CD is okay, but this one is a must buy.
"set the mood music".......2006-01-07
this is one of those cd's you put in when you're with that special someone. for those intimate quite times(if you know what i mean). every song is silky smooth(even the tony braxton rendition) and puts you in a romantic mood. I play this album a lot and never get bored with it. two thumbs up!!!
Great Smooth Jazz!.......2003-05-14
"Euge Groove" is a great jazz album that displays Steve Grove's impeccable skills with the saxaphone. Now, I'm not just saying all of this because he happens to be from my hometown, but because it's true. He blends sensuality, pain, love, and so many other emotions into his songs. Each person can interpret the songs differently, which makes this CD so great!
My favorite song on the CD is "Give In To Me" which features vocals from JC Chasez. It was interesting to hear this different side of JC, especially since all we had heard from him was what he did with *NSYNC. It was really brave in commendable of Steve Grove to include this track on the CD, even though it may have been JC and his song that brought the CD a lot of attention. However, without overshadowing Steve Grove's talents, he made a wise decision of including this track.
All in all, this is a good CD. So if you want to listen to some of the smoothest jazz out there, buy this CD!
Smooth is the word.......2003-04-09
Mr. Grove sure has done a wonderful job with this CD. There is not one track I skipped and when I listen to this, I find myself letting it play from beginning to end over and over. From the slow and soulful to the smooth and uptempto, Euge sure does have a groove. I would recommend this to anyone who feels the need to be taken from one tempo to the next, one mood to the next, one plateau to the next in a span of less than 70 minutes. Pick up your copy today, you will not be disappointed!

Truly Magnificent.......2007-05-10
Many will still rant on about his debut release , great though it was it is this release that Steve finds his true placing "too cool , "talk to me" and "sillouette" being the knockout blows for me. Everyone should own a copy.Greatly inspiring balance of smooth seventies funk and romantic beauty.
A most welcome surprise!.......2006-09-18
I trade cds with a co-worker to pass the day. She gave this one to me because it was the least of her Euge Groove favorites. I absolutely fell in love with it. I'm not sure what she heard but I now listen to this cd everyday. Some of my very favorites include Living Large, XXL, Too Cool with one of the smoothest endings ever, Silhouette and my very, very favorite Cabolicious. The reviews have been mixed. I'm glad the opportunity came to me to hear it for myself. I believe you, too might be very pleasantly surprised!
One of the best of 2004.......2006-05-31
The title may be a bit extravagant, but I think the music is really cool.I dare say it was one of the top releases of 2004.As alway, remakes make me twitch in agony, and so the opening cut didn't strike a chord with me,but the rest of the album is very well set.I just think the bonus track at the end,a rather unnecessary instrumental version of the hip-hop flavoured "Thank You" was not good as well.
Overall,it's nice.I loved "Take you Higher" and "The Gift",and "Silhouette" was nice too.
Great album,minus the remake.

Just as the title says, this album sucks! My friends and I just listen to it just to get a great laugh
Ah. Yes........2005-10-11
I haven't taken this out of my cd player in a year. I can't help it. I just need to know that it's going to pop up and funk me out.
I play it at every party I throw. I play it when I'm cleaning the house or doing the garden.
I play it.

Best Ever Cool, Smooth Jazz.......2007-03-29
I have all four of Euge Groove's (Steve Grove's) CDs, and this one has impressed me massively. I have a 1-star to 5-star rating system, based on what I hear, how it makes me feel, and how it compares to other jazz in my collection. The ten cuts on this CD scored an astounding seven 5-star and three 4-star ratings. No other jazz CD in my collection has even come close to this. Long live the Groove.
Excellent!.......2004-07-05
I love this cd. It's one of my favorites. "With You I'd Believe" is my favorite song on the cd. It is fabulous. It just may be my favorite song from ALL the cd's I own. It's a wonderfully uplifting song. The only song I didn't like was "Love Me". I don't like when the smooth jazz artists throw in a vocal or two- for me it usually takes away from the cd. However, the other songs were so outstanding, I still give it 5 stars. I just skip over that one.
Groove On!!.......2003-10-11
Well, where should I start? I absolutely loved this cd. To tell you the truth, I can't get enough of it. I loved Track 3, Gonna Be Alright & Slam Dunk. I heard the first CD of EG and loved it to, but I think that he took it to another level with this one. Like I said, Groove On!
First time.......2003-01-11
This CD was my introduction to EUGE GROOVE. Considering I thought the name of the performer was HUGE GROOVE, I was not dissapointed to find out differently. Euge Groove was a HUGE hit with me. Slam Dunk is the head boppinist, sitting in your car even after you get home to finish listening it-ist tune that I've heard in a while. GROOVE ONNNNNN.
I like this one better.......2002-08-18
Maybe the reason I like this one better is that I don't want a whole CD to be "Smooth and Relaxing". This one is not as "smooth" and to me that is a good thing. While the first one had some catchy songs it was also more low key and the songs had a similar groove. This one pushes the envelope a bit more and gives us songs that don't all sound similar. Slam Dunk is good, but the standard stuff..then he really opens it up with "From The Top" and "Rewind" is equally energized. Belle Maria with Peter White again steps away from the standard fare and the beautiful ballad at the end, With You I Believe, is a refreshing step away from studio technology. Pure instrumentation and played from the heart. I could have done without the cover of "Lets Get It On" a song I have simply heard too many times over the last 30 years and am bored with. But the other plus for this CD is that except for one background vocal it is all instrumental! I love the artists who can play it down the center commercially and give radio what they want without compromising the quality of the music or putting us to sleep..EG has done that with this one.
I also have to give some props to the cover art..the woman on the cover is a beautiful, confident, healthy looking woman wearing clothes that real people wear. Refreshing after seeing so many covers with sultry, pouting, extremely thin half-dressed women!
