Album Description
You've arrived in the ultimate luxury resort for your soul. Come into the lounge where you can restore your body, mind and spirit. Settle in as you join our visionary house DJs, the Gordon Brothers (creators of the original Buddha-Lounge series) as they carefully hand-pick the freshest sounds around - exploring the more intimate side of mystical multi-cultural grooves with this perfectly transcendent blend of sensuously hypnotic rhythms, richly radiant vocals and an exotic array of ethnic instruments. Featuring an incredible line-up of world/lounge luminaries including Althea W., Ginkgo Garden, Joe Weinek Opera-to-Relax, Peter Mergener, Artemisia, TAU, David & Steve Gordon and many more genre-bending mixologists. De-stress and unwind, as deep ancient wisdom meets with these mesmerizing modern beats to create the definitive nu-global soundtrack for today; perfectly suited for deepening your yoga experience, as the perfect backdrop for socializing or any time you just want to chill-out.
"If you need a compilation to hold you over until the next installment in Sequoia's "Buddha-Lounge" series gets released, HOTEL TARA is the perfect place to take up residence. Like that series, the album features a luscious non-stop mix of ethnic-flavored grooves, spiritual essence and intoxicating beats compiled and mixed by the Gordon brothers. HOTEL TARA ups the "dreamy" quotient, creating an atmosphere that is at once peaceful and soulful. The beats are low-tempo and many of the songs have a touch of Indian instrumentation as well as a subtle retro-lounge flair. Artists include David and Steve Gordon, Gingko Garden, Althea W., Jaya Lakshmi, Artemisia and others. This is a great album for anyone looking for music that is mellow and cerebral - it is perfect for chilling out to."

Unwind with this..........2007-03-26
Smooth, sensous, soothing, and sultry. A couple of cuts a little on the "loungy" side but overall this is an excellent CD that delivers exactly what you would expect from the title. The quality of this stuff is definitely a cut above a lot of the other budda-lounge wannabes.
A maverick New Age/Eastern hybrid classic!.......2005-03-25
I am absolutely taken into the beauty and harmony that is the album "Hotel Tara". I first heard this at an independent CD store recently and after finding out who it was, I instantly bought the new album and I am proud of my choice of buying it. This album reminds me very strongly of the Earthtone collection series from years ago. After the apparent and unfortunate demise of the Earthtone label, Sequoia Records seems to have taken the torch and "Hotel Tara" is a powerful CD. "Apollo 13" is a highly eclectic track that incorporates voice effects of a NASA space mission with a gorgeous jazz/New Age groove. "Govinda Hari" is an electrifying song with haunting Eastern Indian voices and a very entrancing melody. This is such a wonderful CD and I highly recommend this.
Blissful Eastern Chill.......2005-03-10
Nothing less than superb ! This new titles from Sequoia Groove is a blissful voyage into the very best of Eastern influenced downtempo chill-out music. A provacative follow up to Sequoia's Buddha Lounge series. This album really transports the listener into some very exoctic and sensuous musical landscapes. I especially love the Jaya Lakshmi track "Govinda Hari" and "Apollo 13" by Joe Werineck which incorporates actual original recordings from the space mission into a lushly textured background of slow and sultry electonica. This is a great addition to any downtempo musical collection. If you like, Buddha Bar or Hotel De Costa you will love Hotel Tara.
The Ultimate Music for Sacred Lovers.......2005-02-10
David & Steve Gordon have done it again ! Just when you thought it could'nt get any better, these musical visionaries deepen the mix even further. Hotel Tara bills itself as "The Intimate Side of Buddha Lounge" and it certainly delivers on that promise. This is an exotic and enticing blend of traditional Eastern music with the very best that Western downtempo-electronica has to offer, featuring an superlative assortment of the very best Sequoia artists and some absolutely alluring new artists. Likely the most noteable being the lead track "L'Heure Verte/The Green Hour"from Artemisia, the new Steve Gordon solo project with it's distinctive tabla beat, exquisite tamboura, sensuous guitar and luminous vocals provided by Jaya Lakshmi whose "Govinda Hari" also graces the album. David Gordon's new solo track "Floating" is also fantastic, melding chill-out and smooth jazz effortlessly into this delightfully transcendent tune. My wife and I have now found our new favorite CD for our intimate encounters and Tantra sessions. These Sequoia Groove titles just keep getting better and better and this one is perfect suited for the the Sacred Lover. Keep them coming. Absolutely delightful.

This albulm is an albulm that will take you back to the Rat Pack days of old. The songs all have a smokey joe kind of feel to them !! I love it!!
Teach Me Tiger.. and how!.......2007-02-06
This CD is worth the price for the one track "Teach Me Tiger." Similar to other CDs offered, this is one where a smoking jacket and a retro 50's vibe come to life. There are also other funky tunes in here that are sure to have you wondering if they were serious or just having a great party. Either way, it works well as party background music, although you may find yourself shushing everyone up to hear the lyrics.
This is a great cd........2007-01-10
This cd was a Christmas gift for my daughter and she loves it! Thanks for the prompt service Amazon.
Ultra-Cool.......2002-05-15
This CD is one of the greatest purchases I ever made. I was brousing the cd's a my local record store and came upon this fuzzy, ultra-hip complilation. I have bought this CD for friends and used it for entertaining. Almost anyone will love this cd, if simply for the humour in it! FANTASTIC!
Swanky!.......2001-12-16
an excellent potpourri of swingers music... It even has a few of the goodies such as Bobby Darin's "No one else could love you more" and of course they have jump jive and wail.
Very nice Cd to put on quietly while you're entertaining a lady friend.

These guys are the bomb. This is a fantastic CD. It's hip jazz with a thump. Great keys, sax, bass lines, backbeats. Buy it!
TLC - Madison, AL.......2006-07-25
One of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time. I would highly recommend it.
Finger Snapping Jazz.......2006-05-01
Great jazz sound with an upbeat, funky groove on every track. Bona Fide, on this album, reminds me at times of the funkier side of Gregg Karukas & Bob James on keybords. On guitar, Bona Fide has a vey unique sound; somewhere between Russ Freeman, Brian Tarquin, and Peter White. The bass sounds lot like Gerald Veasely. Thankfully, Bona Fide does NOT go overboard with progammed percussion, which I think has been the worst "innovation" in Jazz over the past 10-20 years. If you like upbeat, progressive jazz with a funky groove to it, you will love this album.
A Must Have.......2006-04-03
I'm listening to this CD right now and if you don't have it, I suggest you get it right now.
If you like a mellow funky groove you will like this CD. Great for cruisin' in the car. Summer's coming this will sound good playing in your ride.
The Boys Are Back!.......2006-03-02
I was wondering how Bona Fide was going to follow up the success of their two previous albums. I needn't have worried, Soul Lounge is an awesome cd. These guys are just great musicians and composers.
Lots of energy and bass heavy riffs like Royal Function, but a somewhat more reflective mood overall. They even work in some new age synths in a couple places. If you're someone who likes cruising through the city at night, Soul Lounge is music that'll sweeten the drive for you.

The Soul Lounge Vol.1.......2006-05-26
I heard Sunshine by Antoinque on a local collage radio station
on my way to work. Fell in love with the song the first time I
heard it. The song is different from a lot mainstream gospel.
The song is smooth & uplifting. This CD is a must have.
BEST neo-soul compilation yet!.......2006-04-01
A wonderful variation of artists from neo-gospel to neo-funk who all have totally original sounds. I love the eclectic mix and it is an extreme listening pleasure from begining to end.

Customer Reviews:
Trippy, smooth, beautiful.......2003-08-12
If you are looking for something to play while you smoke, chill with your girl, or just unwind, this is it.
Good, but could be better.......2003-05-14
I love trip-hop, and I love Mike Patton's work. Dan the Automator is also a guy who deserves respect. So, when I first read about Lovage, I was amazed with the possibilities.
The real thing, though, was not what I expected, but the sound is still good. You can find a good mix of humour with innovative beats, but there are 3 or 4 songs in the disc that you can name "excellent", so the general sentiment left when you finish hearing it is: "Man, this should've been better..."
The major problem is that Lovage had too much potential, and was unable to use it all. Songs like "Pit Stop" are nice, but just too average. I think that when you see a name like Mike Patton on the cover of a disc, you expect to hear something with the quality of Faith no More. And Lovage is not THAT good.
I recommend it, it's a nice sound -- it's worth it, I think. But lower your expectations, as there is much better stuff out there.
And I criticize based on comparison with the real excellent stuff.
If you are already familiar with bands like Portishead and Monk & Canatella, then I say you should buy this CD. It's good (not excellent or superb, though) stuff, and you won't regret it.
Instrumental genius once again.......2002-03-25
Fans of the Automator's work shouldn't be surprised by the consistent greatness of this album. Dan Nakamura - under pseudonyms including Nathaniel Merriweather and the Cantankerous Captain Aptos in addition to The Automator - is pretty much far and away the best producer working today in hip-hop; he has a little more competition in the more rockish/alternative end of the musical spectrum, but his less rap-oriented projects almost never miss the mark, as evidenced by the massive success of last year's Gorillaz album and its ubiquitous summer single, "Clint Eastwood." "Lovage," in its original form, was one of those genre-hopping, border-crossing experiments that the Automator is so good at: featuring vocals from Elysian Fields' Jennifer Charles and Faith No More's Mike Patton, it was even better than the Gorillaz album, if more eccentric and vaguely lunatic. Often instrumental versions are merely completists' treasures, relatively worthless without the accompanying vocals, but the instrumental Lovage is well worth hearing. Patton and Charles' vocals, excellent though they are, can distract sometimes from the far-out soundscapes the Automator delights in crafting; on this instrumental album you get all the clever samples, all the subtle turntablism (courtesy of wax wizard Kid Koala), all the sharp humor and irony (who says the nineties are dead?), and, most importantly, all the eminent grooveability. The beats are incredible from start to finish, and listening to the instrumentals one picks up on all sorts of little quirks and craftings in the music that pass by the wayside when put under Patton and Charles' compelling voices. Listen to the original vocal Lovage, or any Automator-produced album, for some of the best and most solid music this century, with the wild collaborations that are his trademark; listen to his instrumental albums, especially this one, to realize what an undeniable genius he himself is, alone.
and the music was like wind in your hair.......2002-03-17
buy this on sight.
nathaniel merriweather (dan the automator) sets the groove. mike patton (faith no more/mr. bungle/etc.) croons. jennifer charles (elysian fields) plays the sultry chanteuse. lovage could make barry white and the entire love unlimited orchestra rise to attention. it could make beth gibbons weak in the knees. it could remind r. kelly of his jeep.
a friend of mine dropped this album on the system at his work, a major corporate record store, and watched the customers transform from mindless drones to players and play-ettes -- numbers exchanged and stories of tawdry scenarios popping up left and right.
lovage has the power to stroke your soul. enjoy, baby.
I like Dan, but..........2002-03-11
I like Dan the Automator as much as anybody, but this album doesn't get it for me. I love that he's one of the few artists who thinks his music is as important to his hop-hop-ish offerings as the lyricists that they warrant instrumental releases, but most of these beats and tones just don't sing on their own. Not anywhere near as solid an offering as his "Dr. Octagon: Instrumentalyst" record, or the stripped-down "Deltron" (which actually sounds better without the vocals). The music just isn't hitting.

Om Rides Again!.......2007-04-24
The second release of the now famoaus OM LOUNGE series. This 2nd. of 10-plus cd releases is also chock full low bpm, full-a-funk, grooves. The formula used in these productions has never wavered, always smooth and satisfying. The producers have taken inspiration from every corner of the planet to offer the listener a very satisfing musical journey. Sitars from India are juxtapozed seemlesly into an Afro-Caribbean rhythm...Bhuddist chanting draped over a throbbing beat of the conga drum...European violins soaring over South African souka and more. The experience is quite uplifting and refreshing. I highly recommend the entire series of; Om Lounge. You can't go wrong with these. Bon Appetit.
Perfect for chilling out, not so much for listening.......2005-01-20
This CD is a perfect illustration of the pros and cons of the chillout sub-genre of lounge music. On the plus side, the sounds are mellow, aurally atmospheric and sensual, with heavily-mixed pulsing drum rhythms to induce your body to relax and flow with the music. Om Lounge does exactly what it sets out to do. When I put this on, I find myself sliding into a relaxed--yes, chilled out--state of mind.
On the minus side, the tracks often lack strong melodic hooks and the musical edge needed to reward serious listening. When I put this on, I find my attention wanders and I wind up doing other things while the music plays. Om Lounge is great background music, but as listening music there is little here that is challenging or memorable.
There are several exceptions to this rule. For example, I got this CD because I heard "Where Were You?" by Soulstice on an Internet radio station and loved it. This song has a musically edgy and interesting intro featuring a mysterious sci-fi melody over a funky hip-hop beat. The main body of the track features a catchy soul-style female vocal over a funky (but still laid back) midtempo beat. When this song comes on, I always stop to actually listen. If the whole CD were like this, I'd give it 5 stars.
I should emphasize that I still like this CD for what it is, and I recommend it to fans of chillout lounge music. Unlike a lot of compilations, this CD has a seamless feel. There are no out-of-place, awful, or oddball tracks that interrupt the flow or destroy the mood. If you like the genre, you'll like this CD.
It's solid!.......2002-12-06
Very good downtempo beats here, honestly. I can't even tell you one bad track. Some you may not listen to that much but frankly each one has its own distinctive flavor and will be nicely accompanied with a beautiful member of the opposite sex and a fine martini.....seriously, buy this and enjoy the sexy yet mellow beats...
a must have.......2002-08-25
ian pooley, what's your number. get it. gabriel renee. get it. only a few tracks are dispensible. a must have.
A bit spotty.......2002-02-27
Don't get me wrong, I love the Om Lounge compilations, but I don't think that #2 was the best they could do. The songs are all in the same genre (just as every other om lounge compilation) and some are absolutely gorgeous, while others are just a cacophony of noise with irritating little bleeps and bloops stuck in. It's good background music, but not something I'd consciously listen to again.

SAMMY SWINGS THE 70's!.......2002-07-22
Mister Entertainment, Mister Bojangles, The Candy Man, call him what you wish, but Sammy Davis Jr. was the epitome of cool, the consummate performer, no matter what the material. While fellow Rat Packers Frank and Dino were slowing down, Sammy saw the 70's and hit the ground running, singing everything he could. You'd think the break-neck pace would produce less than favorable results, case in point, the unlikely hit with this CD's opener, THE CANDY MAN. They literally had to rope Sammy to the chair in the studio to do it; but it became one of his all time greatest anthems. This CD is jammed with some of Sammy's lesser known sides, all of which are great. They go from the funky (BARRETA'S THEME, JOHN SHAFT, and the superfunkadelic GET IT ON)
to the groovy (more TV themes LOVE IS ALL AROUND, WE'LL MAKE IT THIS TIME (from Kojak), YOU CAN COUNT ON ME (Hawaii Five-o) and a homespun-folk art version of Jose Feliciano's CHICO AND THE MAN that is wonderful). Others still border on inspirational and let us in deeper to Sammy's world, like the San Remo Festival winner, THIS IS MY LIFE (a big hit for Shirley Bassey) and the touching TAKE MY HAND. The standouts here are the inspired message in I'M OVER 25 to the youth of the day (and it could still be said today), The grand take on the LEGRAND (as in Michel) song SWEET GINGERBREAD MAN that swings perfectly under Sammy's command, the poignant and dignified reading of the Bricusse/Newley song TOMORROW, a song culled from Sammy's THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT album (the only time Sammy and the immortal Nelson Riddle paired up) and a fine reading of the standard GET HAPPY, and finally, the final track, I'LL BEGIN AGAIN, flawlessly interpreted here by one of the greatest performers of all time. This is far from the "greatest hits" package(s) you'll find out there, but for another side of Sammy or complete-ists, this is a must have. Great import.

Don't Be Afraid.......2007-05-25
does anyone know who sings the song "Don't Be Afraid" ..it came out in the early 70's....
"Come into the Soul Lounge 2".......2007-05-06
and groove to some of the best indie soul out there. Being a big fan of the "neo-soul" movement, I purchased the first collection on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Based on my success with that collection, I purchased this one and I love it. It has artists I am familiar with (Brenda Russell, Hil St. Soul and Rosie Gaines, among others) and artist I'm discovering with this (and the other) collection and wanting to know more about. Those artist would include Avani with "Heads Up" (I swear she's channeling Aaliyah on that one), Donald Mc Collum with "Lose My Kool" and Angela Johnson with "All I Need." There's a wonderful rendition of "Superwoman" by George Duke featuring Eric Benet, who I love and "Right Away" by Rahsaan Patterson, which makes you wonder why he's not a more popular artist than he is...it's a wonderful jam. So if you want to try something new, wonderful and different get this CD set, "RIGHT AWAY." You won't be sorry.
Wonderful!.......2006-08-26
