Smooth Jazz Christmas

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Cohesiveness is what separates this all-star Christmas release from the others. During the last four years, Dave Koz, vocalist Brenda Russell, pianist David Benoit, guitarist Peter White, and trumpeter Rick Braun have hit the road spreading holiday cheer among the smooth-jazz masses and their collaborative ease is palpable throughout these 14 tracks. Benoit is featured on "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," while Koz adds one of his best solos. Braun has the spotlight on "Little Drummer Boy," where Benoit shines too, and White highlights "Silent Night." All five players are credited for arrangements on most tracks, the craftiest of which is the '50's doo-wop of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," where you can almost hear the Drifters singing in the background. Russell also does a holiday version of her hit "Get Here," which is as powerful now as it was 10 years ago during the Gulf War. --Mark Ruffin

4 out of 5 stars Soothing, moving, delightful!.......2007-06-26

I am not the trumpet enthusiast my husband is, so when I requested this CD to please his palate, I was dubious about how much I would enjoy adding it to the holiday CD rotation. It is fabulous! It feels both fresh and familiar at the same time, soothing, yet festive. Particularly impressive is the beautiful arrangement of Ave Maria. A wonderful, (for the most part) instrumental holiday collection I would recommend to all - no jazz experience required!

5 out of 5 stars Great sound!!.......2007-01-12

This cd is a must if you like holiday music and Chris Botti's sound. Have seen Mr. Botti a couple of times in concert. His music live and on cd are both wonderful. Encourage anyone who enjoys jazz to purchase this cd and others from Mr. Botti. You will be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars A Welcoming Journey Through the Holiday Season.......2007-01-11

Chris Botti's music for the holiday season delivers with the essence of peace, love and a level of spirituality so welcome at a time when, try as we might, chaos seems to reign in our lives. It's the middle of January and I am still listening to this inspiring CD. BRAVO.

4 out of 5 stars A Jazzy Christmas Album.......2007-01-10

Finally a Christmas album that doesn't make me sick with the syrupy sweet, tired lyrics. I've heard it said that as entertainers achieve fame, they are compelled to do a Christmas album. Please make them stop! Chris Botti has a winner here and is a nice, jazzy take on the standards that is best enjoyed with a nice glass of Shiraz.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Jazz.......2007-01-03

Botti phrases like an accomplished singer. The melodies are mellow and sound effortless. Relaxing, romantic and beautiful. I've listened to it over and over.

Here's some soft jazz for that fireside glow at Christmas. Fourplay is pianist and arranger Bob James with guitarist Larry Carlton, drummer Harvey Mason, and bassist Nathan East (who handles limited vocal chores, as well). Carlton is the tastiest of the foursome (check his blues-tinged work on "Amazing Grace"), never overplaying or indulging his knowing chops. Snowbound's strong group effort shines as the band weaves in and out of each other's lines on "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" or as the rhythm section casts mellow, funky grooves in the path of the title track, under occasional trumpet and sax fills. The quartet delivers one other original piece, James's "The Ivy Variations," plus a naturally fluid reading of Joni Mitchell's often-overlooked song "River," taken from her five-star album Blue. --Martin Keller

Taking, perhaps, his cue from Kenny G, tenor saxman Boney James's silky tone and mainstream arrangements of nine seasonal standards take few risks on the improvisational front. Instead, James sails through such fare as "The Christmas Song," the grooving "This Christmas," and similar accounts. Reduced to its common elements, Funky Christmas is merely barroom funky, if not a little seductive. And therein lies this cat's charm: bedroom eyes. Perfect for that holiday date you've finally managed to make, Funky Christmas is an easy-listening set that will make ol' Santa think twice before he slips back up the chimney and out into the cold. --Martin Keller

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!.......2007-03-10

One word describes this CD (other than the subject line)...FANTASTIC!! From start to finish, Boney blends upbeat and smooth jazz sounds to your favorite Christmas songs. My favorites are "The Christmas Song", "This Christmas", and "What Are You Doing New Years Eve". ...And guys, if you turn down the lights and punch up song #3, it's all over ;-) My only complaint is that Boney didn't put enough songs on the CD. Pick it up. You'll be glad you did!

5 out of 5 stars Boney's Funky Christmas.......2007-01-25

This is great! But I love Boney James and thought it would be fun to have a Christmas album by Boney, especially when the radio stations started playing several songs from it during the holidays. My absolute favorite is "Sleigh Ride". I just love his interpretation of one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs. He's just so cool and very smooth in his music, and it shows - not only in this Christmas CD, but in all of his work.

5 out of 5 stars Boney's Funky Chirstmas.......2007-01-16

This is absolutly the very best X-MAS music I have enjoyed since the Drifters " WHITE CHRISTMAS ". I played this CD far into the New Year, an will continue to listen to it far into next year.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-12-26

It's one of those cd's that makes you bounce and makes the holiday season more enjoyable. Boney James is good... period!

5 out of 5 stars 6 Funky Christmas courtesy of Boney.......2004-12-06

I picked this up when it first came out. EVery Christmas I look forward to pulling this out and giving a few spins. My favorite track is #2 which features great vocals. Also Boney's buddy Rick Braun shares his trumpet on several tunes. There are great ballads and definetly some funky tunes that will make you get up and dance whether you are celebrating Christmas or another holiday.

5 out of 5 stars Neine's Review.......2007-01-09

I loved every song! Especially Jingle Bells and Joy To The World. Michelle has a beautiful and calming voice! Listening to it every year will surely become a part of my family's Christmas tradition. Brian makes it seem so easy! He is truly talented and I would hope that one day, I could play 1/2 as well!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Christmas Blend.......2006-12-21

Brian Culbertson does a tremendous job on this album of taking old classics and revisiting them without ruining them. Many artists try so hard to be new and creative they do the songs an injustice - not so on "A Soulful Christmas".

As you listen to this album you realize the double-meaning behind the title. Culbertson mixes gospel singers (Joy To The World) with the soaring soprano of his wife (Some Children See Him) to put the attention on the `soul' of man. Note the rest of the tracks included.

He opens with a classical rendition of Joy To The World that swiftly transitions into a rollicking version of the same and keeps the quality at the highest level throughout. Some of the biggest names in smooth jazz collaborated with him in the studio such as Eric Darius, Eric Marienthal, Warren Hill, Peter White, Nathan East and the list goes on. There is not a track I would skip as they flow together effortlessly creating a treat for your family and loved ones as you gather during this special time of year.

5 out of 5 stars A New Classic!.......2006-12-14

I have been a fan of Brian Culbertson for quite some time now, but his depth of talent and creativity never cease to amaze me. A Soulfull Christmas is nothing short of awesome! Joy To the World is the hottest holiday cover I've ever heard and Jingle Bells a close second. The original "All Through Christmas Night" sung by Michael McDonald is beautifully done. In fact, each song on this CD is done in a unique and captivating style with an exceptional group of artists. If you like jazz and like holiday music by jazz artists as I do, then add this to your collection. It will be your favorite of all. And, if you haven't seen Brian live, do so!

5 out of 5 stars Phenominal.......2006-11-27

Brian Culbertson has done it again but this time he pushes the envelope even further with his creativity by using live instrumentation, a choir, big band sound and more. This album is definitely 5 stars out of 5. To go along with the new album, Brian is currently on tour with his band and some special guests artists: Bobby Caldwell, Eric Darius, Ray Parker Jr. and Warren Hill. I saw the show last night and it takes your breath away. Brian has a horn section which reminds me of the Earth Wind and Fire era. From Joy to the World to Deck the Halls, Brian lays it down throughout this album with perfection.

This album contains many Christmas favorites masterfully performed by Culbertson, et al. It is definitely a disc that you will keep spinning all season long to promote the cheer. His wife Michelle contributes beautifully on the vocals to "Some Children See Him." I have a lot of Christmas albums in my collection, and I honestly have to say that this is one of the best I have yet to come across. This is definitely a compilation that the entire family will love. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a little pizazz this holiday!

Album Description

Pop/jazz/rock cross-over star Michael Franks' first-ever holiday album sets the scene for mirth, merriment, and a cool yule all around. On tracks like "Said the Snowflake" and "I Bought You A Plastic Star (For Your Aluminum Tree)," the artist's trademark wit and lyrical worldplay are clearly in evidence. And throughout the disc's ten tracks, this master musician taps into his signature sense of timeless romance, wrapping his poetic songcraft in melodies as inviting as a blanket of freshly fallen powder. Delight your senses with the magic of the season, as observed by Michael Franks.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Real 5 star Franks.......2007-07-17

This CD has it all. A GREAT sound quality, and a very exciting reportoire
to boot. Michael Franks gives us, in his usual delicate manner, a collection winter/Christmas songs without even touching the standard sweet
Christmas-commercial-sort of thing. My favourite is "Christmas in Kyoto", with lyrics taking you right there and then.
This is my most frequently played Michael Franks album.

5 out of 5 stars Great Michael Franks eclectic lyrics!.......2007-05-15

I really enjoyed this CD even though it isn't near Christmas time. His lyrics to the songs are so great no matter what time of year! I loved the melodies too. My favorite song was "I Bought You a Plastic Star (For Your Aluminum Tree)" - excellent!

5 out of 5 stars Watching the Snow by Michael Franks.......2007-03-09

I have always been a fan of Michael Franks and although I was not aware it was a Christmas CD when I purchased it in February...I have and will be enjoying it when Christmas rolls around again.

5 out of 5 stars It's about time Mike!.......2007-01-30

Your fans have waited patiently for your Holiday Album. I LOVE the fact that these are ORIGINAL holiday songs, and not the tradional songs that everyone else does.
Nice, smooth, just right for relaxing. Bought You a Plastic Star--CLASSIC! I love how you tease us with mellow tones and unpredictible lyrics.
Keep going Mike. WE LOVE YOU!!

2 out of 5 stars Sorry to disagree, but this is the worst of Micheal.......2007-01-27

I am a big fan and have several albums and CD's. This is without a doubt the worst (which still does not make it bad). The sound is too mellow and listless for me and my companion. For new listeners, try 'The Art of Tea', 'Dragonfly Summer' or 'Blue Pacific' for Micheal at his best.

Kenny G currently owns the smooth-jazz soprano sax with his popular, mainstream arrangements and compositions. And on his first holiday album, despite occasionally predictable charts and phrasing, the saxman delivers a thoughtful and moving collection of songs, spirituals, and hymns, with his trademark sound wedded to several ensemble and orchestral arrangements. The G-man stretches out in "Sleigh Ride" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," but these are balanced by more serious pieces such as the lovely, original "Eternal Light ( A Chanukah Song)" and "Ave Maria." There's a genuine humbleness and inspired reverence in the playing here--as in, Kenny G really means it, man. After a ghost track, "The Christmas Song," the record closes with a haunting audio history of America's last century, which runs under a revisited version of "Auld Lang Syne." Summing up a turbulent and triumphant 100 years, this one is sure to put a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye. --Martin Keller

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Holiday Music You'll Never Forget.......2006-01-15

Faith by Kenny G is Christmas music that is soothing and relaxing. This all instrumental album will allow you and your family to enjoy the holiday season while listening to great music.

5 out of 5 stars He did it again.......2005-12-26

This album arrived two days before Christmas 2001. It has classic songs on it especially the hidden tracks "Auld Lang Syne" and "The Christmas Song." Kenny G has Christmas in his name and especially if you like saxophone jazz music, this is a must to own.

4 out of 5 stars I'm Not a Fan.......2005-12-12

I'm not a big Kenny G fan, but this album is pretty good. I don't care for the last track, the millenial mix, but the other songs on this album are nicely done. If you're looking for something a little jazzy to add to your holiday collection, I recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars BEST CHRISTMAS CD EVER.......2005-09-23

HE PUTS HIS HEART AND SOUL IN THIS CD. PROBABLY HIS BEST WORK EVER.

5 out of 5 stars .......2004-11-07

Kenny G. is phenomenal in his playing of the saxophone as well as the composing of the music. This is perhaps the best, most beautiful and most relaxing CD in my collection, along with his other holiday CDs. If there is one track on this disc that blew me away, it is The Millenium Mix of Auld Lang Syne. This is brilliantly and masterfully composed and performed - absolutely beautiful! In every way. Yes, I too, was wiping away quite a few tears while listening to this moving and powerful piece. It is unlike anything else I've heard. The plain, regular version is also outstandingly beautiful. There just aren't enough good things I can say about this CD so I will just close by saying to you: Buy this one, you will NOT regret it!

Kenny G's 1994 album of economically arranged standards, which also happens to include Brahms's "Lullaby" and his own "The Chanukah Song," pales in comparison to his other holiday record, the highly creative and memorable Faith. That said, Miracles will appeal to some for its easy (some would say lazy) jazz renderings on G's soprano horn. The most inventive thing on the CD is a witty reading of "Greensleeves" wedded to Dave Brubeck's "Take 5." For sheer commercial appeal and enough romantic notes to keep the fireside roaring, Kenny G will make a good Santa for his many, many fans. --Martin Keller

5 out of 5 stars Kenny G delivers in this holiday CD!.......2007-04-23

I have admired the instrumental talents of Kenny G. This selection of Christmas favorites is just a nice addition to anyone's collection of favorites. My favorite on this C.D. is Winter Wonderland! Enjoy!!

5 out of 5 stars Miracles: The Holiday Album, Kenny G.......2007-03-08

I had a robbery at my home and several of my favorite CDs were stolen. Two of my favorites, Miracles and Faith by Kenny G, were taken and I could not find either of these in any store. Amazon.com came through for me and I was able to get these two easy to listen to CDs replaced.

4 out of 5 stars Like light snow outside.......2006-12-26

I am not a Kenny G fan as a result of his smooth jazz, however, once a year this disc makes evryone in our house feel in the Christmas "spirit." My father passed away several years ago(at Christmas time) and this really reminds me of him as he loved it and would brag about how good it was. He would play it and I would humor him but evetually I would break down and really like it. The copy I listen to was his. It is as beautifull as the Christmas season. The standards are all here for you to think about Christmas past. The mellow sax fits into the peaceful setting of the themes in the songs very nicely. There is not much deviation from the standards in their presentation so people of all ages can enjoy the songs of Christmas. Everyone hums along or sings the words to the well known instrumentals. Comprised of mostly standards played tradionally, the exception might be "Greensleeves" which is the most "pure jazz" sound on this disc. Now John Coltrane he's not but for a popish sound it is cool and "jazz" enough and as close to "swinging jazz " as it gets here.If you want something most people can enjoy at Christmas than this is a good choice. Check it out you may like it in spite of Kenny G. Now if he only could cut that hair. Merry Christmas to all and may the peace and goodwill of the season stay in your heart throughout the year.

2 out of 5 stars Wait, isn't he Jewish?.......2006-11-28

This was Kenny G's first Christmas album. On it, he plays light jazz versions of Christmas songs, plus a couple of originals and..."Brahms Lullaby", of all things. Kenny plays soprano saxophone, for the most part, which is the wimpiest saxophone of all. On "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Silver Bells", he plays tenor saxophone, which helps out a bit. "Silver Bells" is actually the best song on the CD, for what it's worth. He actually almost gets a groove on. For the most part, though, this is "mellow" jazz. I prefer jazz that swings, which this most assuredly does not. But if you like mellow jazz, you'll probably dig it.

5 out of 5 stars By FAR the BEST Christmas Cd EVER!!!.......2006-11-08

This cd is by FAR my FAVORITE Christmas cd!!! It is all instrumental (which is nice and calming). It has great songs and it SOOO nice when you want to have that cozy christmas feel at your house. (I think "MIRACLES" is the best Christmas album of Kenny G's... so if you are wondering which one to get, THIS would be the one!! Everyone who hears this cd, LOVES IT!!
BUY IT!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

While the first Festival of Light compilation focused on putting an eclectic and young spin on music for Hanukkah, this follow-up is slightly more mellow (but no less diverse). Danny Heines's "Singing Flames" gives his mesmerizing guitar work a hint of Middle Eastern rhythms; Dave Koz's "Memories of a Winter's Night" features the musician's smooth saxophone work; and the Klezmatics--joined by Israeli vocalist Chava Alberstein--perform the soulful klezmer number "I'm Going to Take Off My Shoes." There's a ton of great, genre-blurring music here, but the real gems come from jazz trumpeter Frank London. His big band composition "Oh Hanukkah Groove" is spiritual yet swinging, while his atmospheric "Song of Praise"--featuring London, keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, and oud player Michael Kashou--is simply mesmerizing. --Jason Verlinde

3 out of 5 stars less-inspired followup.......2007-01-14

Since the first "Festival of Lights" was one of the more unique, inspired and inspiring Holiday albums, I eagerly picked this one up this past Hannukah (I don't know how it got by me these past seven years). I'll have to live with it a while. On first listen, it doesn't seem to approach the original, a tough act to follow after all. However, I must say that Peter Himmelman's "In the Embryo of Silence" is absolutely awful. It reminded me of one of those old National Lampoon parodies of, in this case, Dylan. And then, there was another track that used Hannukah/harmonica, a rhyme forever owned by Adam Sandler. I guess I'll just program the good stuff, or better yet, compilate the best of both albums.

5 out of 5 stars ~Lights Burning Bright~.......2000-12-30

What an excellent CD! I'm not even officially Jewish [only 1/8th on my dad's side] but I keep the promise & the flame in my heart as well. What I like most about this Hanukkah CD is that it travels the globe with taste & style. Neshama Carlebach is simply exquisite-- her father would have been so proud; Dave Koz, smooth as usual; Continuo with those Turkish/Sephardic melodies & vocals by Berta Aguado BLOWS ME AWAY on La Mujer de Terah-- WOW! I could live without Peter Himmelman, but with art, like life, you get everything... including a little comedy relief from They Might Be Giants [Adam Sandler might have done equally as well in that slot...] Frank London with or without his Big Band is AWESOME-- Song of Praise is both solemn & dreamy. These are just the highlights folks! Get this CD!! From start to finish it's wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring Chanukah Melodies for the Holiday.......2000-12-16

Many seem to feel that this second volume in the Festival of Light series is not as good as the first. I do not agree, and in some ways I think it is actually stronger. Le'Eyla's opening track, "Haneros Halallu," is all I need to play to put me in the mood for Chanukah. A beautiful melody for this traditional prayer, I find myself playing it over and over. Neshama Carlebach's "A Love Trancsending" is another beautiful tune, haunting and moving. They Might Be Giants, an always quirky and offbeat group, give their take on the holiday with the wry "Feast of Lights," and it always makes me smile. Israeli vocalist Chava Alberstein is a standout with the Klezmatics on the Yiddish "I'm Going to Take Off My Shoes." As with the first CD in the series, the musical styles presented are varied, but they are all interesting and fun. Again, this is a great CD for getting into a Chanukah mood or frame of mind. As a bonus, it may expose the listener to some new or unfamiliar artists on the Jewish music scene.

3 out of 5 stars It's a start.......1999-12-31

Well put together and a definite improvement on the original Festival of Lights CD. However, I don't think the Might Be Giants song is appropriate for this CD. Having a Jewish mother and a Catholic father I have come to appreciate my exposure to Jewish music. I believe that CD's like this are 'a good start' when compared to Christian music CD's like WOW 2000, which is better.

5 out of 5 stars A Little Light Music.......1999-12-05

Aha! A Hanukkah CD that's fresh, eclectic, and not too folksy-sappy. This is an enchanting, original combination of music styles to enhance the Festival of Light. In particular, "La Mujer de Terah," a Sephardic selection, was astoundingly beautiful. My only regret is that some of the songs don't have a more obvious connection to Hanukkah.

With his GQ looks and warm, seductive brass tone, trumpet player Chris Botti has what it takes to command attention. This lovely recording will appeal to deeper jazz fans as much as to easy-listening and fusion aficionados. From brooding and bubbling arrangements of holiday standards to the original, radio-perfect ballad "Perfect Day" (featuring the talented horn man on vocals), Botti and his various ensembles deliver 13 tracks of comfort and joy, plus a taste of fleeting, seasonal melancholy that recalls Chet Baker. The more somber moods are brightened, however, by such merry fare as the Brazilian arrangement of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and the swinging "Winter Wonderland." You probably won't hear a more romantic (or ironic) version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem," and when was the last time a Leonard Cohen tune ("Hallelujah") appeared on any Christmas disc? December is tasty throughout and highly recommended. --Martin Keller

5 out of 5 stars Mellow trumpet.......2006-03-17

This album is a wonderful Christmas album. His trumpet is so mellow it makes you swoon. If you love this album you'll love all his others.

5 out of 5 stars A classic.......2005-12-28

This is such a beautiful compilation of Christmas classics that is sure to become a favorite in anyone's collection. I love this album for slowing down and remembering the magic of the holiday season, for background music during our holiday feast or a cocktail party with friends and for cuddling up with my honey for the evening. The music is soulful, moving, even sultry. I was especially enjoyed Botti's rendition of Hallelujah. Relax and enjoy "December."

4 out of 5 stars Easy to listen to and write about...Chris Botti in December.......2005-12-04

December is...the beginning of a beautiful season and a time to reflect on all the things that are good about life. It's also a CD composed of thirteen songs of the season performed by Chris Botti, one of the preeminent trumpeters in contemporary jazz today. Whether you have a collection of Christmas music or none, this CD is not to be missed.

December is...a time when snow can and does fall in places where it's cold enough for it to actually land on the ground and accumulate so as to be fun and a hazard at the same time. And...it's not just music for fans of Chris Botti; rather it's a CD that anyone can put in the player and relax to as you listen and absorb familiar tunes such as Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let it Snow. Even if you live in the tropics and never see snow, you can close your eyes and picture Chris's brilliant tone ascending to the heavens and coaxing down the flakes. Let It Snow is a beautiful arrangement for a classic jazz quintet with Billy Childs on piano, CJ Vanston on synthesizer, David Carpenter on bass while Peter Erskine applies the brushes to snare drum and cymbals. The Little Drummer Boy is a playful rendering featuring Brandon Fields on tenor sax joining Chris with Vinnie Colaiuta taking over on drums; this is a great tune to light your fire on a cold night.

December...contains a hypnotic chill out song that's oh so mellow called Hallelujah, the fourth tune on the CD. It's performed by a trio of Botti on muted trumpet accompanied by Shane Fontayne on guitars and on bass is Jon Ossman of Chris's band; this song has the power to move you.

There is so much to like about this collection. I'll Be Home For Christmas is just the sort of arrangement that will remove the stress of too much hustle and bustle and replace it with joy; put this song on repeat and let Chris's muted trumpet evoke in you an emotion that'll get you going for the rest of the year.

Have fun, enjoy life and December.

5 out of 5 stars "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas".......2005-12-04

"At no other time of the year is there a wider array of emotions than the month of December. As I considered material and arrangements for this recording I wanted to assure myself that in each instance the songs reach out to the joys and reflections of the season. I wish you all the best in all your Decembers." ~ Chris Botti ~

December. We're on the last month of the year. It's the time of the year again when people tend to become busier than ever. Time flies so quickly. Where did January thru November go? But anyway, December is truly without a doubt my favorite month of the year. To me, it brings so many cherished, fond and warm family memories to have and to hold year after year.

It was such a pleasure to be with my friends at Chris Botti's live concert last night at the Wilshire Theatre with his special guests. It was a terrific and enjoyable concert. A dream concert! To any fan, the ultimate and best thing is watching him perform live and see and hear before your very own eyes and ears how exquisitely he played his favorite instrument and interpreted some of the hauntingly beautiful classics of all-time.

This outstanding CD is one of my absolute favorite Christmas CDs from my collection. You'll enjoy listening to thirteen Christmas classics of all-time with arrangements by the artist himself and Billy Childs. You'll be delighted with the fabulous, breathtaking and sublime interpretations of "The Christmas Song," "O Little Town of Bethlemen," "Silent Night," "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "Hark The Herald Angels Sing," a twosome with Hector Pereira on guitar (wow, trumpet and guitar - what a perfect combination!). And of course my very favorite from this collection of wonderful Christmas carols, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" showcasing Mr. Botti's smooth and mellow vocals.

"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"
~ Words and Music by Hugh Martin & Ralph Blane ~

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away. . .

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Thru the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

May this Christmas Season bring more joy, peace and blessings to one and all. Have the happiest Holidays ever! ;)

4 out of 5 stars Stretch & Bend.......2005-04-21

Chris Botti's "December" is easy to underestimate, but it is an excellent holiday collection. On "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow," his trumpet takes inventive jazz license that stretches & bends this timeless Sammy Cahn classic. Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is not a song that will make many Christmas playlists with Cohen's wry lyric, but when played by as an instrumental by Botti it has a graceful build that highlights its joyful sense. "Santa Claus Is Coming Town" & Santa can samba! "Winter Wonderland" is one of those delightful tracks where David Carpenter's bass & Botti's wild trumpet give a new & delightful take on this familiar classic. "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" may be my favorite track with just guitar & trumpet giving a wistful flavor to this gorgeous melody. "December" is an excellent disc for the holidays, one that will wear well for many years. Enjoy!
