About the Artist
Warren Hill is not only one of the most gifted performers and "off the hook" showmen in the pop instrumental world, but he is also a talented and innovative creator of new and different ways to present his music and connect with his fans in this ever changing world of music.

After the release of his first CD in 1991, he was by Natalie Cole as the opening act on her 40-city "Unforgettable Tour." Since then he has released nine CDs with numerous #1 hits on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz and R&R Smooth Jazz/NAC charts, as well as being recognized by a diverse list of awards, including Berklee College's Distinguished Alumnus, 1995 NAC songwriter of the year from SESAC, 2002 Juno Nomination for Contemporary Jazz Album, 2003 Canadian Smooth Jazz Artist of the year and 2005 Canadian Wind Instrumentalist of the year.

In 2004, Hill embarked on a mission: to start his own record label. With the help of his wife, Tamara, and Native Language Music, their vision! for PopJazz Records finally came to fruition in the spring of 2005 with the release of Hill's much-anticipated 10th CD entitled PopJazz. The new CD features Hill's versatility, as his saxophone explores his roots in Pop, R&B, Funk, Chill and of course, Jazz. Produced by Hill and André Berry, the CD is packed with outstanding musicianship from Hill's touring band (André Berry, Ronnie Gutierrez, Dave Hooper, Randy Jacobs, and Ron Reinhardt) as well as some special guest appearances by Norman Brown, Brian Culbertson, Jeff Golub and the incredible Harris Brothers Horns.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Warren Hill began his music career at age seven. He studied guitar and his early influences came from classic rock such as Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Who and the Rolling Stones. At age 12 he started to play saxophone and it became the focal point of his life while studying jazz at the Eastman School of Music. There his musical life changed forever and he retired his! childhood dreams of becoming a rock star, strapped a saxophone around his neck -- and it's been there ever since.

Hill followed his heart and enrolled at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston learning the intricacies of the saxophone, and following his graduation performance, Hill was approached to play on Chaka Khan's record Baby Me, with Stevie Wonder, Prince, Miles Davis and Dave Grusin. The opportunity was a dream come true for a young musician straight out of college.

Hill moved to Los Angeles in 1989 and within six months Atlantic Records signed him to a record deal. His first CD Kiss Under The Moon was released in 1991. Since then he has released nine CD's that have sold a combined total of over one million copies worldwide. A saxophonist, vocalist and talented composer, Hill has remained one of the most consistently popular contemporary jazz artists in his field.

5 out of 5 stars Soulful Sax.......2006-04-22

One of the best smooth jazz albums I have ever heard. The first track, "Toronto", and the last track "Bridgin' the Gap" will give you chills. Funky, soulful and romantic sax. This is Warren Hill at his best.

4 out of 5 stars Nice!.......2006-02-24

Great smooth jazz for your listening pleasure!! Check out the track "Toronto," -- awesome!!!

5 out of 5 stars His best work to date!.......2006-01-26

Warren Hill has been one of "Smooth Jazz and More's" most requested recording artists. He had a huge success with his 1997 release, "Devotion". The track, "Another Goodbye" still receives airplay on our daily play list. He's recorded other CD's after that with limited success. His latest release in off the Native Language label called, "Pop Jazz". It's a step in the right direction, retuning to the style he's best known for, a hip and funky saxophone. With the Beatles classic, "Come Together". The track, "Still in Love" is as romantic of a song as I've ever heard. Overall, this is a fun CD to listen to. Fans of smooth jazz saxophone will be thrilled with Hill's latest release!

Product Description

This dynamic album is a special edition compilation of Pop-Jazz hits! Includes new Mike Phillips remake of the classic hit, "Street Life" also featuring Jill Scott! The album also includes hits by Donald Byrd, Nancy Wilson, Labi Siffre and Bobbi Humphrey! Look inside for information for the upcoming 2007 Pop-Jazz Live Tour. Pop-Jazz is jazz music that lives in the present. It's a movement that captures the freshly original, creative and innovative musicians who claim a broader musical turf than traditional jazz, yet have the distinctive playing style and compositional voice that doesn't exist in the smooth jazz camp. These musicians have conceived a sophisticated yet accessible art form that matches the artistry of traditional jazz but also incorporates a more eclectic musical appetite that deftly fuses the influences of hip hop, soul, funk, rock and pop experiences.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!.......2006-12-16

All I can say is WOW. When I received the CD in the pretty silver package I thought I was going to groove to some nice tracks, but DANG!! Yall had me jamming, and I mean jamming to this CD!!!

After listening to all the songs, which are some of my favorite hot tracks, I now fully understand and feel the Pop Jazz movement. I also thought it was great how you provided some background info and a little musical history on each artist in the booklet.

Thanks again! Great compilation and definately a great holiday gift for family and friends.
