Tommy Emmanuel is a veteran acoustic guitar player from Australia, where he's reputed to be a legend. He's written pop songs for Olivia Newton-John, Al Jarreau, and Sheena Easton and released skillfully played, if generic, smooth jazz albums. But it's as a solo acoustic finger-style player that Emmanuel makes jaws drop, and that's all you hear on this brilliant album. Emmanuel is an eclectic guitarist whose playing is infused with old-timey jazz on "Timberlake Road," New Age melodicism on "Those Who Wait," and a Celtic-classical tinge on "Padre." Emmanuel is capable of a dizzying array of harmonic effects, off-hand ornamentation, hammer-ons and pull-offs, and just about anything else you can do on an acoustic guitar. But while it's the technique that amazes, it's the songs that keep drawing you back with their intricate melodic invention. Perhaps because he's an unrepentant punster, Emmanuel is able to create just enough distance, with a cocked sideways glance, to keep his music on the right side of the line between sentimental and sublime. --John Diliberto

Perhaps it's the color scheme and imagery on the slipcase art for Live at the Gorge, recalling Roger Dean's classic 1970s-era album jackets, but this 7-disc set of live Pearl Jam feels warmly retro. Fans will concur, of course, since the 100 tracks favor Ten and Vs. And let's not kid ourselves, it'll be mostly committed fans that buy Gorge, given the sprawl and the fact that several tunes appear three times. That fact alone is retro: Fans buy live albums; generalists stay away. What fans will get--and generalists miss--here is an old-school, road-proved rock throwdown, from start to finish. Eddie Vedder's connection to fans is palpable in the between-song chatter and the Brit-style sing-a-longs (not to mention the Tom Petty goading he has going strong on the 2005 gig or the two appearances of Petty's "I Won't Back Down"). The general soundscape goes like this: The 2005 set is somber and slow-to-build, with its highlight in "I Believe in Miracles" as a show-opener. The 2006 discs, all four of them, are heated and gritty, with the final show's opening, "Severed Hand," providing a great vantage point into Pearl Jam's version of what Keith Richards calls "guitar weaving." It was a sweltering day at the Gorge (in George, Washington, no less), and the music embodies the heat. --Andrew BartlettAlbum Description
From the time of their spectacular arrival 17 years ago, Pearl Jam has continually earned and maitained the respect of one of popular music's most devoted followings. Live at the Gorge represents why. Weighing in at 7 1/2 hours of unparalleled, nonstop, incendiary rock 'n' roll, this box set faithfully presents an all-time legend at the height of their power.Customer Reviews:
BEST LIVE PJ SET EVER!!.......2007-07-18
This is a must buy for any Pearl Jam fan... my single complaint is thier are nor liner notes.
Pearl Jam rewards their fans again.......2007-07-13
The 05 show is contained on Discs 1 - 3. Disc 1 is an acoustic set, similar to the Mansfield set from 03. This particular set list is not as strong as the Mansfield acoustic set, but is still enjoyable and includes Hard to Imagine. Discs 2 and 3 contain the remainder of the show, and a number of rarities including Alone, Sad and Undone. Other notable songs include Dissident, MFC, Not for You, and In My Tree. The only downside of this show is that the attempts to annoy Tom Petty occasionally take away from the music, in my opinion.
Discs 4 and 5 contain the first 06 show and this show is the highlight of the entire box set. A great set list is highlighted by Wash, great performances of Corduroy and Hail Hail, Down, Daughter/It's OK, and Blood. But it is the first encore (Disc 5) that really shines. The band plays through Footsteps, Once, Alive, State of Love and Trust, Crown of Thorns, Leash and Porch without stopping. This is a real treat for fans of older Pearl Jam as these are all classics - but the best is yet to come when they play the rarely played Dirty Frank in the closing set.
Discs 6 and 7 contain the second 06 show and again fans are treated to some gems including God's Dice, In Hiding, Green Disease, Betterman/Save it for Later, the re-worked Garden, Rats, and Whipping. They close with Yellow Ledbetter, to which Mike adds the Star Spangled Banner. Those familiar with the 06 tour know that Mike frequently played the Star Spangled Banner during Yellow Ledbetter, and together with Eddie's vaguely anti-war lyrics, this classic song has taken on a whole new meaning, one that is especially relevant given the current state of affairs in the world.
In summary, Pearl Jam continues to reward their fans by making their live shows available, in one format or another, for reasonable prices. This set is no exception and it highlights the greatest band doing what they do best. A great mix of classic songs, new versions of songs, and rare songs make this set especially attractive. This is a must have.
Fantastic Live Shows.......2007-07-10
The first show recorded on September 1st 2005, not September 5th like the box says, is the second best show of the set in my eyes. The first disc of this show is just incredible and is worth 40 bucks alone. The band opens up with I Believe In Miracles. Ive NEVER heard a version of this song I liked better. Its really the best Ive ever heard, not to mention a lot of other PJ fans can agree. The takes on Low Light, I Am Mine, Crazy Mary, and Black are also some of the best Ive heard. When I was listening to Black on that disc I actually cried! Ive heard the song hundreds of times, but that version did it for me. The only mistake on this disc is where Eddie messes up the lyrics on Off He Goes, but its forgivable and he just laughs it off. I cant forget the awesome version of Hard To Imagine. The band doesnt play this one much, so its certainly a huge plus. Eds voice has never sounded better. Whoever thinks Ed Vedder has lost his pipes should listen to this. The second disc starts off with the only version of Given To Fly I even listen to. I think the song is overplayed, but this one has the energy like no other. Other stong takes on this disc are Last Exit, Save You, Alone, Sad, Not For You, Dissident, and Undone. Some of those songs are hard to come by live and they are played perfect. Ed messes up on Do The Evolution and Insignificance, but I believe he just got too excited. Disc 3 also has a few good versions of Love Boat Captain, Last Kiss, and Blood. Theres the version of I Wont Back Down thats a little rusty, but is played better on the third show of the box set. The September 1st show was a great one. Really an all around perfect live performance.
The second show recorded on July 22nd 2006 is my personal favorite out of the entire box set. It makes my top 10 favorite PJ shows for sure. The setlist, the energy, and the whole vibe is just WOW. Not to mention the show opens up with a killer take on Wash. I havent got the room to type all the great versions on this show because nearly all are great! The ones that stick out the most as being special are Hail Hail, Severed Hand, Unemployable, Black, Insignificance, Life Wasted, and Blood on the first disc. The second disc is the real treat in my eyes. So many awesome songs that are played perfect. Once, Alive now Ed can certainly belt this one out, State of Love and Trust played so sweetly, Leash, Porch, Inside Job, and Go are all just mind blowingly excellent. The performance of Last Kiss is most likely the best Ive heard... ever. I usually dont like the song live, but its really good here. I didnt list Footsteps because this version is in a league of its own. My God, Ed has never sung the song better. It sends little chills through my whole body. Cant forget Dirty Frank, this song isnt played much at all. Its really cool to hear this live. Ed can still sing it good too. This show is just fantastic anyway you can look at it.
The last show from the Gorge Box Set is my least favorite, but is by no means anywhere near bad. Its still incredible, but compared with the other two shows it lacks. The first disc is the best of this show. I love opening up with Severed Hand. Other really great versions are In Hiding where Eds voice sounds great, Marker In The Sand, and Army Reserve sounds better here than on the studio version. This discs last 5 songs are just pure intense energy. Its so good to hear Garden, Jeremy, and Why Go played with so much energy and raw passion. Garden sounds better here than on the studio version for sure. Its another song where Ed sounds better now than he ever has. I cant believe people say the band sounded better in the early 90s. They sound better here to me. The second disc has good takes on Life Wasted, Big Wave, Satans Bed, Alive, and a wicked version of Crazy Mary. So this show can really hold its ground as being awesome too.
If you read all this Im sorry its long, but with 7 whole discs of music theres a lot to cover. I highly recommend this set to anyone who likes rock music or is just a casual PJ fan. You cant beat 7 discs for 40 bucks. This set just shows how great this band is, how talented, and how hard these boys still rock. God, I wish I could have been a teen in the 90s to hear them!
Classic live box, must have it..........2007-07-10
Sept. 1st 2005
One show = 36 songs, what to say. On first 3 cd's you can find classic songs like "Black", "Small Town", "Even Flow", "Daughter", "State of Love and Trust", "Alive", "Last Kiss", "Betterman", "Yellow Ledbetter"... and many rarities like "Man of the Hour", "Hard to Imagine", "Alone", "Undone", "Crown of Thorns", "Sad"... plus they played 3 great covers "I Believe in Miracles" (Ramones), "I Won't Back Down" (Tom Petty) and "Baba O'Riley" (Who). They also played "Love Boat Captain", song written after Roskilde tragedy in 2000.
July 22nd & 23rd 2006
Last two shows on American Tour in 2006. On these 4 cd's you can hear almost the whole new album they had released in 2006 (selftitled album "Pearl Jam"). Again, like in 2005 they played many rarities like "Mamasan Trilogy" (Footsteps, Once, Alive), "Leash", "Dirty Frank", "Wash", "Down", "God's Dice", "In Hiding", "Garden", "Rats", Jimi Hendrix "Little Wing" and Neil Young "Rockin' in the Free World" and "F*ckin' up" plus many classics...
After all, if you decide to buy this box, trust me, you won't regret because this box is a piece of art.
Notice: tracklisting on Amazon is incorrect:
Sept. 1st 2005: 1st cd has 9 songs, 2nd cd has 17 songs, 3rd cd has 11 songs

July 23rd 2006: 1st cd has 18 songs, 2nd cd has 13 songs
9/10.......2007-07-07
But packaging aside, here is some vital information I assembled that might be useful to some of you who may be indecisive as to whether or not to acquire this box. I did a tally of all the songs and arranged them by era, based on the studio albums, so you can quickly see how many songs you're getting from whatever albums you love. Non-LP songs include b-sides and session songs. (Yeah, I was bored at work.) So here are the album-eras of Pearl Jam, followed by the number of songs performed live in this box set:
Ten ......... 12 (eight LP, four non-LP)
Vs. .......... 11 (nine LP, two non-LP)
Vitalogy .... 7
No Code .... 3
Yield ......... 5
Binaural .... 3 (two LP, one non-LP)
Riot Act .... 6 (four LP, two non-LP)
Pearl Jam ... 12
Covers ...... 8
Other ........ 3
Amidst the three long shows, totaling exactly 100 tracks (there are tracks not listed on Amazon for some reason), there are five threepeated songs (Evenflow, Alive, Corduroy, Given to Fly, and Yellow Ledbetter). As you can tell from the tally, it's a good mix of material; not entirely representative of every album, but most likely representative of the albums that the majority of people want to hear (i.e. Ten and Vs.). But all the performances are spot-on and well done by the band, and of course there's a lot of mid-song banter that gives that "realness" to the shows, and makes you feel like you were there even if you weren't. So if you're a fan, there's really no reason not to pick this up.
A couple of side notes: Among the "other" songs is a dual performance of Mother Love Bone's "Crown of Thorns," which they have been playing fairly often in the past few years. I didn't think it fair to consider that a cover song. Also included in the later versions of Yellow Ledbetter is a Hendrix tribute that McCready has been squeezing in in recent shows, which includes excerpts from "Little Wing" and "The Star-spangled Banner," the former of which is covered as a separate track on the last disc.

From the perspective of 15 subsequent platinum albums and 20 top-10 hits, it's hard to imagine that Chicago began their career as a bona fide prog-fusion act, an early FM radio favorite whose jazz-tinged, album-length suites found them a hip cult following even as they confounded label execs. Ironically, when the pioneering horn band (a contemporary of Blood, Sweat & Tears and inspiration for one-hit wonders like Lighthouse, Ides of March, and Ten Wheel Drive) relented and allowed their music to be edited down to single length, their success was explosive. Most of the "single edits" on disc 1 of this 39-track anthology provide ample evidence of that de facto formula: a catchy riff ("25 or 6 to 4," "Saturday in the Park," "Color My World") develops into a hook-filled, pop-savvy production rife with the band's trademark horn perfection. One could argue that that sensibility--and a midcareer tilt toward producer David Foster, songwriter Diane Warren, and the MOR ballads that became some of their biggest successes--degenerated into formula. Indeed, there's much on the second disc to support that notion. This set spans it all, showcasing newly refocused edits of some their biggest early hits and lesser-known tracks like their lively '95 cross-cultural collaboration with the Gipsy Kings on a cover of Louis Prima's swing classic "Sing, Sing, Sing." --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

This is the music that got me through the rough times, takes you away to a whole different place. When I saw this set on Amazon,I had to have it;and I've not been dissappointed. When I played disc 1,I got chills just like back in the day. Rhino's remastering kicks serious a--!Rich,clear and full sound.I know the few edits are kind of a pain, but hey-no biggie.Just sit back, crank up the headphones and FEEL the music. Now I know what you other hard-core fans are saying-"What about disc 2?" I've got a tip for you-when you listen to the second disc, just listen to it for what it is-not as a CHICAGO fan. It's really pretty good stuff.Besides, the 1st disc is worth the price of the whole set anyway. Those of you who are not too familiar with the group, here's what you'll get-superior musicianship, powerful horns, extraordinary guitar work(Kath),a very strong, much overlooked rythum section and wonderful vocal harmonies.A band with incredible range and versatility. What else can I say! Five stars-easy!

Essential for any Genesis fan .......2007-07-17
"Genesis 1976-1982" (6 CDs, 6 DVDs) is extraordinary on so many levels. I'm not going into a dissection of each of the 5 studio albums from that period, except to say that having now listened to "Duke" and "Abacab" from start to finish (and with the benefit of 25+ years hindsight), I can see what the band was trying to do. Each of the albums is now also onto 5.1 Surround Sound, and that sounds absolutely amazing, if you have the right audio set-up at home (which I happen to have). The 6th CD "Extra Tracks" (13 tracks, 59 min.) collects odds-and-ends from various EPs, B-sides and other miscellaneous "lost" songs from that period. The colletion sounds a bit disjointed because, well it IS disjointed, although I love "Inside and Out", with a furious Tony Banks solo towards the end, wow, and better yet is "It's Yourself", which really shoulda been included on the "Winds & Wuthering" album, just outstanding.
The real pay-off on this set are the various visuals added onto the DVDs. Let's start with the absolute best of the whole bunch: a 45 min. concert from 1976 (on the "Trick of the Tail" DVD), with (surpisingly) excellent audio and video and stunning tracks like "Fly on a Windshield", "Entangled" and "Los Endos" (I saw Genesis on their 1977 tour and this brings back many memories). Equally good is a 45 min. excerpt from a 1980 London show (on the "Duke" DVD) with killer performances like "In the Cage", "Dance on a Volcane" and again "Los Endos"). Also not to be missed is a 40 min. 1978 BBC documentary called "Three Dates with Genesis" (on the "And Then There Were Three" DVD), where the BBC reporter follows the band on 3 shows (Germany, Holland and then Knebworth). The real eye opener is of course to see a behind the scenes look at a big festival like Knebworth in 1978 (admission price: 5.50 British Pounds!), it's like watching a time capsule. Each of the 5 studio albums comes with a "2007 reissue interview", which lasts about 15-20 min. each and is quite interesting the first time around. This box-set also collects the many videos the band did, which are quite enjoyable (I remember seeing the "Robbery, Assault & Battery" video as a kid on Belgian TV in 1976; hadn't seen it since). Last but not least, the set contains a nice 48 page booklet with great liner notes.
I can't emphasize enough how estatic I am with this reissue. I already was tempted to buy this when Best Buy ran it with $30 off, but then when I saw that Amazon sells it at FIFTY PERCENT OFF, I immediately jumped on it and ordered it here. Best decision in a long time. This box set is absolutely essential for Genesis fans from the 1970s. As for Genesis fans from the latter era, give this a look and listen. Chances are you'll be stunned, in the best possible way.
Fully Utilized Re-mastering Techniques!.......2007-07-14
Indeed, this set documents their Beginning and Empirical stages with grandeur like only Hackett, Collins, Rutherford, and Banks could.
I quite liked seeing Steven Hackett in the first two "Review Documentaries" for the albums "A Trick of the Tail" and "Wind and Wuthering". These alone, are worth having the DVDs. All five Review Documentaries are fantastically insightful. With interviews with Hackett, Collins, Banks, and Rutherford; how could they not be?!
There are plenty of other extras on these DVDs, of course. All five DVDs contain photographs of the touring programs from the coinciding tour that took place with the given album. All contain at least 2 videos from that period. As you reach the Duke and ABACAB DVDs, you get actual music videos as we know them to be currently. Although, it must be noted that the "concert film" for A Trick of the Tail and the "three dates with Genesis" for Wind and Wuthering are the true gems out of all five DVDs. Even the interesting and often comical videos for the ABACAB period don't quite match up to these.
Then, there are the DTS 5.1/ Dolby Digital re-masterings that are found on the DVDs. Why American versions of the CDs do not contain the SACD, I've no idea. They are re-mastered in Dolby Stereo, however; giving the records a much more lush and coherent sound.
A special note to those who are playing the music videos on the DVDs : You must select the type of sound quality that your DVD player/ sound-system is capable of. If you do not have the ability to play DTS 5.1 audio but you select that audio, the sound will be absent from the music videos. There are two instances where you are given the chance to select the type of audio you want. If you fall victim to not having the capabilities of playing the DTS 5.1, do not freak out or think that the DVDs are damaged; simply select the Dolby Digital audio selection instead of the DTS. Other than that, you should be smooth sailing for weeks to come!
There really is no need to get into how first-class the records, themselves, are. If you're a fan of Genesis, you know that these are simply some of the most brilliantly written tunes of modern music. All five albums express emotions that inspire all who listen. The musicianship that is exposed by every song, by all four members of the band can't be compared with. This isn't even mentioning the voice of Phil Collins; a man with one of the most distinctive singing voices in music history. Not to mention that Banks and Rutherford occasionally offer their vocal talents on a few songs.
The last aspects worth significant mention are the "Extra Tracks" CD and DVD. This is the same format as the five conventional albums: the CD is re-mastered with Dolby Stereo (not SACD or DTS) and the DVD holds the DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround sound. As for the songs themselves, there could be an entirely new record based off the vitality of these songs. Many of these tracks were B-sides to ABACAB singles and Duke singles. Some of the others can be found on the 3X3 EP. The remaining can be found on their other EP from this time period.
Superior sound quality, distinguished song composition, admired presentation, and indisputable talent has always been the name of the game for Genesis. It's magnificent to see a band of artist who still maintains these traits after 40 years.
Nothing this ingenious could be rated anything less them 5 stars!
THIS is what you've been waiting for ... .......2007-07-12
I'm 45. I've been a Genesis fan since I was 15. I've been really frustrated by the 'lack of attention to detail' of the last group of Genesis so-called "Remasters" (the absolute WORST packaging, including incorrect liner notes, and really ugly boxes on the back of EVERY Jewel case with the track listing -- yeah, some art work -- AND the title track of "The Lamb Lies Down...." actually FADED in, like on all other CD versions of the song, including the Japanese mini-lp version... good grief, anyone who knows the friggin' song KNOWS this has a hard beginning on the piano.)
OK, I haven't really studied the liner notes yet, but I can absolutely say that the packaging is a whole lot better for the 5 albums in here -- complete art work faithful to the original LP releases, including complete lyrics ("abacab" included). Even the CD labels are faithful to the original releases (The US domestic releases have ATCO/ATLANTIC labels -- I would have preferred The Great Charisma Label actually, and suspect the UK/European discs were pressed with them instead). This package DOES contain a 6th disc, with 13 B-sides and EP tracks recorded between 1976 and 1981.
But The Thing is, of course, the music. So what about the music?
I want to say right away that I haven't heard every track in here yet. But of what I've heard, these recordings sound fantastic. Davis clearly went back TO THE MASTER TAPES this time, and these are not only remastered, but they are remixed. For example, so far, of ALL the tracks that fade out (for example, "Wot Gorilla", "A Trick Of The Tail", "Inside And Out") that I've heard, they are all slightly extended. And there are differences in the sounds at the end of these tunes (you don't hear that decending tone so prominently at the end of "Wot Gorilla" as on the original mix, and the fade is extended just so nicely -- and on "Trick Of The Tail", again, a nice extended fade, and you don't hear Collins "grunts" at the end as prominently).
Of course, as a previous review has stated, "Submarine" is the full-length B-side single version with the hard ending, and "It's Yourself" comes complete with an extra verse (sometimes heard on some really bad-sounding bootlegs). And at least they included "Me & Virgil" and "Match Of The Day" (omitted from the Archive 2 Box) -- which also, I might add, sound just great!
My ONLY complaint (so far) would be that for some reason, "It's Yourself" fades, like on the Archive 2 Box. I have the Italian single version; this song actually has a really sweet hard ending, and it doesn't make sense that someone would want to fade out the song when a perfect ending exists on the master tape. But that's what they did. Go figure. What I'd LIKE to have is that ending tacked onto this remastered version.
Given that one complaint, I gotta say they finally got it right with this release -- and I can't wait for them to put out The Gabriel Years -- if the master tapes have been properly stored, there's no telling how these will sound (HOPEfully, they'll fix it so "The Lamb..." starts like the LP does ... withOUT the crackle).

YES, I am over the age of 13 ... lol.

Do you like Phil Collins?.......2007-06-27
I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Just listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority.
In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock.
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
The DVD's are worth the price of admission.......2007-06-27

As Basil Bunting wrote about Ezra Pound's Cantos, "There are the Alps... you will have to go a long way round/if you want to avoid them." Led Zeppelin's work is the central fact of 1970s rock & roll; in its loving homage to and shameless piracy from the blues, its glorious and wretched excess, its transformation of hippie and folk-rock graces into a foundation-shaking kaboom, and its offhanded myth-making, the band turned everything caught in its wake into a reaction to it--or against it. The three non-album tracks the box includes are grace notes rather than lost jewels, but the point of the set is to be a Rosetta stone of album rock, the stairway to a gaudy paradise that they constructed. --Douglas WolkCustomer Reviews:

Glorious that just doesn't cut it, Speechless is more like it........2007-03-07
This box set chronciles the bands starting, up to its monarch like ascent and then to its fall when Bonzo died. All the albums are here in a 10 Box Set. Dazed and Confused, Ramble On, Misty Mountain Hop, Black Dog, Rock n'Roll, Stairway To Heavan, Achille's Last Stand, Candy Shop Rock, Kashmir, and Ozone Baby all those juicy bits are here a song for each mood. Led Zep's influences are easily seen here, garage rock, psychedelia, progressive, Rockabilly, country and of course the greatest influence the Blues. I often wonder if there is in any truth in the myth the band sold their souls to the Dark One because such mind numbing talent is almost beyond the pale of reality. I'm telling you get this set no music lover will be disapponited. Absolutely Awesome. Has 4 bonus tracks never released "Baby Come On Home", "Travelling Riverside Blues", "White Summer/Black Mountain Side", and "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" all songs in the blues vein and take their place besides the other greats. There is also a book of liner notes written by Cameron Crowe that have bits of interviews with the band and info on some of the songs. All in all this is a must have for any Zep head or person who apperciates good music.
Can't Get Any Better Than This.......2007-01-20
My only problem with this set is that my red aussie cattle dog ate the slipcase for Led Zeppelin III and IV and I cannot replace it. So I have a nice set with nice double slipcases and one eaten by my dog. At least she has taste huh? P.S. The cds are still good.

Slow shipping & Minor Damage.......2007-05-14
The Shipping was fairly slow. It took about two weeks (10 business days) to arrive through standard mail. This probably wouldn't have been so bad, but most of the other orders that I have placed through Amazon have arrived in 5 business days or less.
The product itself seemed to be damaged during manufacture. All of the CDs were lose in the cases. It appears that they didn't seat properly, and during the seating process the tines in the center of the case that hold the CDs in place were broken. None of the discs were damaged or scratched.

Here are the original monsters of rock in all their epic, bombastic glory. The Who may have had more decibels (a dubious distinction), but no band took hard rock higher into the stratosphere than the Zep did with their cosmic mixture of deep blues, gothic melodrama, and the supernatural chops of Page, Plant, Bonham, and Jones. For listeners new to the Zep canon, there's no better primer of the band's range and power than this 4 CD box set, compiled and remixed in 1990 by Page himself. All the obvious song choices are here. But even if you've already heard "Black Dog" once too often on the car radio, this set wisely spotlights several overlooked gems, including their ultimate blues lament "I'm Gonna Crawl." It's a blueprint that later generations of head-bangers tragically failed to follow. --Steve ApplefordCustomer Reviews:

"This is it: Everything the Police released," boasts the notes in the 66-page booklet included with this box set. Obsessive fans have already written to rock magazines indignantly pointing out the omission of this or that obscurity. But everyone else will find that these four discs include all the Police they'd ever want to own. The first two discs include all of Outlandos d'Amour, Reggatta de Blanc, and Zenyatta Mondatta in their original order, interspersed with live rarities and singles B-sides. Discs 3 and 4 are more satisfying, including the band's well-crafted studio high points, Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity, plus more outtakes and live tunes. The set ends with "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86," a dismal remake of the early favorite. By this point, the musician's egos were running rampant and they were barely speaking. If anyone wonders why the group called it quits so abruptly, this tune makes it clear that the split was smart and timely. --Jim DeRogatisCustomer Reviews:
