George Clinton's post-bicentennial message to those in the "chocolate cities" was that America could be theirs, too, without any loss of their own black, regional identities. One Nation Under a Groove remains Funkadelic's most provocative release, as well as one of the funkiest long-players released in the disco era. The band vamps on a world where people of different color play each other's songs ("Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!"), lose their inhibitions (the classic title track), and bond together with the glue of shared secrets (the wonderful "Groovallegiance"). Standout: the slow-grooved "Into You," in which a lover vows to stay true or a patriot pledges devotion to a new flag--take your pick. You might think that a complex and moving ode to commitment is out of place on an album with such political overtones, but it's not. It's really the quiet-storm centerpiece. --Don Harrison --This text refers to an out-of-print edition of this title.

Yet Another Funkadelic Best.......2006-09-15
This was too hot to handle if you were not into funk but the ever danceable "One Nation" made you get up. It was a National anthem for "us folks" and gave us some pride in knowing that we are "One Nation Under A Groove" and we had a voice. We had "Lift Every Voice " and now we got "One Nation" what more can you ask for. You have a wonderfully written dance song with the team of george Clinton, Gary Shider and the multi-talented Walter "Junie" Morrisson. "Grooveallegience" is another well done song withe the bass of Rodney "Skeet" Curtis..Another revamp of the funk mob but not noticeable only great music. The are puffing out their chests and saying "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?"--The "Promental............enemasquad" was a hilarious treat and I am glad that they put the instumental on the album as it is a good music track--They just lacked the backing vocal tracks that was on "Promental". "Maggot Brain' the live version was very good Eddie or Mike I don't remember but excellent all of the same. This was the year for the Parliament/Funkadelic as they put a flag on the earth and then went underwater---I said it before, and I'll say it again, what a funk mob!!!
One Nation Under a Groove.......2006-07-20
This is one of the most important albums for this group. Though many are aware of the title track,( One Nation Under a Groove" THE Funk Anthem) much of the rest of the album has been over looked. The strong blues background, mixed with bits of reggage and soul make this not only a funky dance album, but also a great album to relax to. It it not to be missed.
good for your mind... good for the dance floor.......2006-05-23
there's plenty of stuff to groove to on this album. it's an awesome blend of funk, disco, rock, reggae, jazz, and messages about unity. if you can get past the outer space stuff, poo humor, and the "bonus EP", you're in for a real treat. get the album Maggot Brain, too. it'll blow your mind.
So many great records.......2006-05-22
There are some many good funkadelic records I happen to own this on vinyl and is an essential in any record/cd collection. If you are thinking about buying this get it on vinyl instead. If you don't have a record player then invest sucka.
Pledge Allegiance to the Funk!.......2005-12-20
Each and every member of Funkadelic HAD to have been high as a kite to come up with the songs on this album. Aside from that, this album showcases some really great musicians. I enjoy listening to it every time.

Although Kirk Franklin's career already has shaped the faces of gospel, R&B, and contemporary Christian music irreversibly, his relentless drive to bring glory to God has not slowed. Similar to 1998's monumental Nu Nation Project, 1NC (One Nation Crew) is an extraordinary design of unity and praise. Comprising 10 culturally diverse vocalists, 1NC both bridges gaps and breaks boundaries by fusing South African and Latin American sounds with R&B, gospel, praise, and pop influences. With each song a new adventure, this project takes the musical scenic route, visiting heated urban grooves and intimate vocal showstoppers. While all but one of the 13 tracks were written by Franklin himself, the fervor and honesty displayed by the vocalists unquestionably demonstrates ownership in heart and soul. Including spoken-word interludes between some of the cuts, the Christ-centered vision of 1NC visits spiritual and social issues with sincerity and jubilation. --Israel Button

AWESOME.......2005-10-07
I NEVER HEARD OF THEM BUT WHEN IT SAID KIRK FRANKLIN I KNEW THAT I HAD TO BUY AND WHOLE THIS CD IS AWESOME. YOU REALLY NEED TO GET THIS ALBUM BECAUSE THESE YOUNG PEOPLE ARE ON FIRE FOR THE LORD YOU WILL BE BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL OF THE SONGS ARE FILL WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. KIRK FRANKLIN DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON THIS AND THIS IS WORTH HAVING. THIS ALBUM WILL BLESS YOUR SOUL EVERYTIME THAT YOU HEAR IT. KIRK IS AN AWESOME PRODUCER AND SONGWRITER. THIS IS A MUST HAVE.
1nc .......2005-01-31
I have heard many types of songs and beats all my life, but this cd just takes my breath away. Kirk Fraklin has done it again by combining the most cultural music ever heard. I heard this cd about two years ago and it still keeps having the same power in its music and words. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with this cd. I, for one, would personally add this to any collection.
Make a joyful noise unto The Lord.......2004-01-28
This is an anointed man of God and the group is also. Every song on this cd Kirk Franklin presents 1NC will lift up the Lord and also bless you and I mean every song. no matter what you're going through. Kirk Franklin and the family, Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation is excellent also from beginning to end and God's property as well, all need to have *****. If you want a cd that praises God and you can pump up the volume where ever you are and get your praise on then 1NC is it. I had no idea that this cd was that goooooooooooooood! I hope they make another one. Peace.
Coming Together As One Nation in Christ.......2003-09-07
This album is amazing in every sense of music taste and lyrics. It's about not being seperated by skin color, defects and spiritual beliefs in Christianity. It's about coming together as one nation in the name of Jesus Christ. That's how the name, One Nation Crew, came to be.
The album has many different styles of music on it. It has some Club styled (Movin' On) Latin Salsa (Unconditional) Mature Pop(When You Fall) Soft Rock (Could've Been Me) Hip-Hop (Hands Up) Soul (Donna) R&B (Nobody) and Kirk Franklin even gives off he's own rap in "Nobody"
There's also some African roots on "Be Like Him" where they feature a South African group.
The lyrics all tell different stories and issues. We have the issue of God testing us (Movin' On) Knowing that He's love will always be the best to find (Unconditional) To know He takes pain away (Donna) Helps you when you stumble (When You Fall) and that Jesus deserves all the praise in the world (Hands Up)
Overall, this album has many different sounds, people of races and lyrics. One of the best of 2000. Kirk Franklin keeps it locked and presents you with...1NC!
Excellent........2003-06-29
This group of young people from Texas, Kirk Franklin's new protégés were always rumored to be facsimiles of the other group of young people Franklin brought to the forefront, the double platinum selling God's Property. Though there are a lot of vocal and compositional similarities between the two, considering that they both were produced by the same man, One Nation's vibe is a little different. Composed of an interracial mix of three African American women, three African American males, one Caucasian male and female and one female of Hispanic descent, 1NC, displays their music in every color of the rainbow and influences of their cultures shine through their songs. A strong Latin influence is shown in "Unconditional", with some of it's lyrics being in Spanish. Even with the language barrier Unconditional is definitely one of the hottest joints on the whole project. An international flavor shows through the Crew's first single, "Nobody", which features Franklin and lyrics in Spanish and Italian. African influence is very prevalent in "Be Like Him", an adaptation of the African folksong 'Kwase Kwabonankala'. Of course under Franklin's production there are some 'jeep joints', "Movin' On" and the blazin' "Hands Up" that will fill that prescription quite nicely. Now what's missing, an old school joint and a spiritual ballad the rousing "Breath Away" and, "Free" fulfill those needs. This album is a little different from some of Franklin's other work, but the sound manages to keep up with his consistency of excellence and thought this album is really good, I must admit, the God's Property album was a bit better.

A Rock Revolution.......2007-05-16
Never have I heard a band this interesting and creative, since Godsmack or Killswitch Engage. Most likely, their sequel will be just as good, if not better. Enigma will soon hit the shelves this summer on July 27th and you can bet I'll buy it. Ill Nino, in my opinion, is not like any band you've heard before. The factors that noticibly set them apart from other heavy metal bands is they don't usually have the same material for every album, but they also don't stray from it truly means to be a band. I also would also like to note that I and Ill Nino come from the same state, which is New Jersey and I also plan to go to (hopefully) one their concerts live.
Watered down and uninspired........2007-05-15
Their debut was great, and even Confession was solid, but this is like a bunch of b-sides off the previous two albums. You'll listen to it and find yourself nodding your head to a catchy part here and there, but afterwards, you'll have trouble remembering anything significant about it. The big hooks are missing. Hopefully they can return to form on their next one.
So-So.......2007-02-21
Confession is a straight-up classic, without a doubt. If you consider yourself a fan of heavy rock and nu-metal, you should own 2 copies. One Nation Underground is basically just so-so. The second half is much stronger than the first, and although I'm all for experimentation, I would have liked to hear more of the catchy guitar melodies that were on Confession and less of the latin horns, salsa sounds ect.
Ill Nino have since signed to indie label Cement Shoes, and they're working on album number 4 right now. Hopefully it'll be more like Confession and less like One Nation Underground
Ill Nino.......2007-02-02
excellent cd. every song on it was amazing. i loved listening to it. Ill Nino rocks!!!
Very nice!.......2007-01-06
I really like this album. Ill Nino seemed to delve into their more melodic side in this one and it worked out nicely. This is war is probably my favorite track on the album. I like the way the intro blended into the song, which has tibal-like chanting and percussion. The only thing i didn't like so much was the tempo changed greatly from song to song which isn't such a bad thing, but it kind of takes me out of the "trance" that i like when listening to good music. I think most true music listeners will appreciate it. If you're looking for their more hardcore side you should probably get one of the first two albums.
Good album but a little bit different.

At times unsettling, always dramatic, unusual, and ultra-musical, From Zero's assured debut, One Nation Under, will appeal to those who enjoy their hard rock technical and full of progressive moments and fluid time changes à la King's X. Fortunately, overall, the quintet of well-schooled players that comprise From Zero don't let stellar chops interfere with songcraft. "Check Ya" is a gem, vocalist Jett's talk-singing is melodic, with the soaring, memorable choruses melding well with the left-of-center tempos that prevail here and in many of One Nation Under's 11 songs. Full of intra-song contrasts, From Zero is seamless in their stylistic shifts, from mellow and moving to fierce in "The Other Side," and moving from a heavy mosh vibe in "Jeer" to the edgy hardcore rap feel of "Horrors." The modern, heavy prog-rock genre once propelled by bands like King's X never found a huge following, though it boasts a rabid one. From Zero, straddling the line between modern metal and prog-rock, and rife with tattoos, spiky hair, and killer, often likeably oddball musicianship, could as easily tour with Ozzfest as they could with Dream Theatre or System of a Down. --Katherine Turman
Customer Reviews:
4.5 Stars - Rather impressive, definately not dissapointed.......2005-04-11
The highlight songs - Check Ya, Erase, Other Side, Suffering, and Smack - will instantly captivate. The others may take a while to impress or may never impress you. However, if purchased just for these five standouts alone, it is well worth it (buy used and save cash!)
I am particular in my tastes and its hard to find cds I can groove to without feeling preached a certain message or lifestyle. Korn is too crazy, even though their riffs can be cool; Rap in general is completely narrow-focused on the thug life while rap metal can be the best if done right; melodic songs and slower ones are often too pop and gay to enjoy. However, From Zero has somehow melted all these styles (Korn's nu-metal chugging sonic ways, quick rap beats and melodic choruses) into something worthwhile. Artistic, yes. One-dimensional, NO.
I recommend THIS album if you are interested. From what I hear, their second album blows. So buy One Nation Under first. I bet you'll agree - these guys should have a much bigger following than they do.
Peace out, curtousy of WHO.
Hidden gem of a disc.......2003-09-26
It's astonishing this band hasn't taken off with a hulk of mainstream success. As far as nu-metal goes, From Zero has one of the better sounds in the genre's pantheon. Melodic singing, tight riffing, catchy song structures (check out the chorus on "Erase," or the infectious melody of "The Other Side")...this band has the necessary constituents for success. However, success has apparently eluded them while other inept bands garner all the attention. Then again, I'd rather pay less than ten bucks for this strong album than shell out almost eighteen for a Trapt CD. But don't take it from me; GET THIS DISC!!!
From 0 to 4.......2003-06-06
Not bad. Especially if a softer side of nu-metal is for some reason closer to you.
A lot of melody shining through the usual heaviness, highly professionally played instruments, and impressing vocals are what offered to enjoy on the cd. Not that heavy, not too poppy, aimed to the masses that appreciate a mainstream melodic heavy rock.
The real stand-outs are Smack, Erase, Other Side, Jeer, Tomorrow's Light, Suffering, and Gone.
After this one you may easily switch to their recent album.
excellent.......2003-06-02
I just recently discovered From Zero and i absolutly love them! 'SMACK' is THE best song in the world, i cant stop listening to it and i get chills up my spine when i do. It truly is a heart-captivating, stop-and-make-you-think-song. The sheer beauty of the lyrics and song all together are amazing. This is pure talent. The other songs are awesome as well, but smack, smacked me and is stuck with me now!

Customer Reviews:
Pretty Heavy-handed stuff here.......2004-03-04
Again, I think altissimo! is going over the top here with the raw patriotism bit. Sure we should be proud of this country, but there does reach a point where it becomes too much and is embarrassing. That point is reached here with this mixed bag of recordings pulled in from over the place, many already released from Altissimo! before and just re-packaged here. If you don't mind patriotism served with a lot of relish then this CD is for you.
Beautiful and inspiring..........2003-11-07
It might not be everyone's cup of tea but One Nation Under God is a beautiful ode to patriotism and the United States of America. There isn't a clunker in the 20 songs on the album, not surprising considering you get things like Nearer My God to Thee, God Bless America or Amazing Grace. A fantastic job by the various military bands who contributed to this effort!
One nation Under God.......2003-10-30
"One Nation Under God" is a great compilation of inspirational patriotic music, superbly performed by truly world-class musicians.
The selection of music was excellent, and very much in keeping with the title and the theme of the album. The opening recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by Senator Thompson, underscored by a most respectful and reverent lead-in to "God of Our Fathers", perfectly set the stage for the well-appointed and majestically performed music that followed.
Several pieces evoked solemn contemplation and reverence, leading to others of pride, majesty and tribute, all arranged and played with proper respect and appropriate to the theme "One Nation Under God".
This is a magnificent and timeless album that will hold a prominent spot in my collection, and be often enjoyed.
One Nation Under God.......2003-09-25
This CD is absolutely awesome ! From the opening of God of our Fathers with the Pledge of Allegiance by Senator Fred Thompson to the final note of Taps, I could not stop listening. This collection of patriotic and inspirational music is a must for all Americans. As an ex-Navy man and Viet Nam veteran, the strains of The Navy Hymn sent chills up and down my spine. It brought back so many precious memories. This collection of 20 songs is a bargain at any price !
Amazing Collection!! Patriotic Music all on one CD !!!.......2003-09-24
This CD is definately for people who are looking to get some uplifting patriotic music for listening to at home, the office, for parades, barbecues, and ecspecially holidays like the 4th of July. Its got all of America's greatest hits including "The Star Spangled Banner", "Amazing Grace", "America The Beautiful", along with other less well known gems such as "Godspeed", and "Pslam for Band". All of the songs are played excellently by the US Marine, Navy, and Air Force bands. The label that put out this release, Altissimo Records actually specializes in military music, so if you like this check our their other releases. Overall Highly Recommended!!!

Album Description
Seattle's psychedelic groove-pop four piece, Voyager One, experiments with the sonic structure and content of current and past pop music. Paying special attention to the aspects of musical space and density, dynamics and timbre, they fuse melodic hooks and a liberal use of guitar effects with flowing rhythms. Time-lining themselves back through pioneering bands like The Verve, My Bloody Valentine and Ride all the while bluelined by groups such as The Smiths, Acetone and Spiritualized, Voyager One can break your legs and your heart in the space of a single song. The experience is at once intimate, explosive, spacious and entrancing. Voyager One dominate your senses, while pulling you willingly into their world.

Trippy sonic drenched music.......2007-02-04
The only reason I found out about this band is through my love of shoegazer rock, (My Bloody Valentine, Catherine Wheel, Ride, The Verve, etc.) and shoegazer's kissin' cousin, Brit-Pop (Stone Roses, Charlatans, South, Inspiral Carpets, etc,). For a point of reference, Voyager One probably most resembles The Verve on their debut album "Storm in Heaven." Indeed, "Slower California," the first song on this album, has a similar riff to "Star Sail," the first song on The Verve's "Storm in Heaven." In any event, while I was looking for information on the internet about what other bands I might like given my aforementioned tastes, I came across Voyager One, listened to blurbs of some of their songs, and was hooked enough to order all three of their albums through this website.
As my title for this review says, Voyager One plays trippy sonic drenched music. Quite extraordinarily, in fact, which makes it so frustrating how little known this band is (but good for fans, I guess, who can see them live in small venues). Although their second album, "Monster Zero," is slightly better and more consistent, "From the New Nation of Long Shadows" (which is V.O.'s debut) is quite good, especially the first three tracks ("Slower California," "Asleep in a Stereo Field," "Bess") and "Young Halo," four songs where the band really opens up its sound and rocks. Also noteworthy is the band's spacy cover of The Beatle's "Daytripper," which takes the title of the song far more literally than the Beatle's ever did. (The band does an even better cover on their next album: Echo and The Bunnyman's "Bedbugs and Ballyhoo").
What a great relatively unknown band! It makes me wonder how many other bands are out there that I, sadly, may never discover. You can be assured that I'll be the first one to buy a ticket when Voyager One performs in my area.
Promising indeed.......2001-11-30
Even though I was at first skeptical of their name (I like the Verve too, but c'mon), this disc has won me over. Asleep in a Stereo Field is particularly good with some very welcome guitar riffing. With so much lightweight (but still often good) stuff out there these days (Travis, Sparklehorse, etc), I really appreciate some music that makes me abuse my steering wheel. In fact, they do often remind me of the masters (The Verve) with their range when they decide to chill out and slow it down a little. I wish they would also re-release their earlier material (also quite good) and look forward to a new disc soon.
From the New Nation of Long Shadows.......2000-05-11
This is one of the best first releases I have heard. I am sold on the V1 experience from their shows to the CD, give me more.
These kids know what's up........2000-05-03
After being subjected to the same pop-punk, post-grunge, alt/rock that the Seattle music scene had become, happening upon Voyager One was the life support I needed. A friend gave me their demo a year or so ago and I was floored by their ability to rip off The Verve (which is where they get their name, if ya didn't know,) Ride, and Swervedriver and capture something that's completely new at the same time. They say immitation is the highest form of flattery and in some cases it's also the best way to make music. The affected english accent works for some reason. Probably because the sonic quality of the recordings and the accuracy of the music make it sound that much more authentic.
The live show is amazing as well. I'd highly recommend you see these kids if they come to your town.

Awesome punk CD with a serious message.......2003-03-22
Thanks to a stand at a Native American Arts Fest in Phoenix, AZ by Canyon Records, I was able to sample a lot of Native American music. And when I heard that there was actually a punk one, I thought, what the heck...and what a pleasant surprise it was! For those who enjoy bands like Bad Religion, Pennywise and the like, you will be right at home with this CD. I have been a fan of punk from when it started, and this CD ranks in my Top 10. Well arranged and executed with sheer emotion and raw power, Blackfire puts a wake up call to us all - and what a better bunch to do so than Native Americans, with a shameful history of abuse from the white man. The songs are tight, and with screaming lyrics like 'There is blood on the hands of time!!', well, it got this listener very interested. This is NOT your 'typical' Native American Music CD (flutes, drums and lots of chanting), although we do get some traditional chants in some of the songs - and believe it or not, they fit very well with the mood of the song. Akin to Medicine Dream - who add a rock element to the native sound - this band put together a great punk CD with well written songs and musicianship that would rival today's popular punk bands.
Even if you are not into punk, but say into bands that have an edge with anger (Linkin Park, Sevendust, etc) - give Blackfire a try. This is not the sloppy, 3 chord punk that many bands cashed in on during the halcyon punk years - this is good stuff!!
A Wake Up Call to the Struggling Masses..........2002-11-08
