Don't own any of his music but............2006-11-22
I am a music fan so I may yet buy an album or two just to compare his recordings to the live experience.
p.s. Steve Vai's live Renditions of The Crying Machine and Dyin' Day were mezmorizing. Yes I'm still stuck on Fire Garden, his best album ever.
powerful guitar playing and vocals.......2006-08-29
Only because..........2005-11-01
Innovative yes, stunning guitar player NO.......2005-09-28
someone wrote on here that he opened for steve vai and that meant he must be good, steve vais carreer isnt exactly blooming right now.
i gave this CD 4 stars because even though it isnt blues it is still a solid musical experience. the band is solid and tight and I love the fact that he plays National Resonator guitars.
the fact is though if youa re looking for blues rock in the vein of guys like Stevie ray vaughn, joe bonamassa, clapton, etc. this is not by any means in that category. If you like the more modern and progressive sounds of blues influenced bands who take it just a step over the line into rock like the white stripes, black keys, even newer zz top material; then you may get into this stuff.
if you go into this CD expecting blues you will be let down.
The Future is NOW !!.......2005-05-17
Eric can play alongside the best of them.
You don't tour with Steve Vai unless you're one of the Best.
Eric is the Future of Modern Blues.
The latest cd is more Aggresive than the previous 2 offerings.
A little Harsh at times but the "Bluesy" undertones are there.
This cd is Highly Recommended.

The Essential Andreas Vollenweider surveys the Swiss harpist's career from his 1981 worldwide debut, Behind the Gardens, Behind the Wall, Under the Tree..., to 2000's Cosmopoly. In 1981, Vollenweider was a breath of fresh incense capable of creating sweet, poignant melodies with an electro-acoustic harp that reached from deep bass lows to shimmering highs. As Vollenweider's music progressed, world-music elements came to dominate his sound. Sometimes, as on "Belladonna" from 1982's Caverna Magica, the fusion resulted in world-music kitsch as Middle Eastern and Brazilian vocals wafted over snappy lounge rhythms. By the time of 1984's White Winds, Vollenweider had coalesced his multicultural approach into sweeping suites. The Essential Andreas Vollenweider concentrates on his upbeat, jazzier material, leaving the more textural, emotionally ambiguous pieces aside. Nevertheless, there's a breadth of vision represented on this CD that shows a musician always searching. Vollenweider's albums are meticulously recorded, with each instrument given its own space, creating an encompassing sense of architecture. But the remixes here improve the sound dramatically, especially on the earlier works. For the Vollenweider fan, there's nothing new here, but for the uninitiated, this is a good place to begin exploring the works of a New Age pioneer. --John DilibertoCustomer Reviews:
A Must Have Harp Album.......2003-07-01
All of the songs on the album were good but I found "Wanja The Wanderer" a bit strange and so did my dad when he listened to it, so I don't think I'll get his album "Kryptos". Here are my favorite songs: Behind the Gardens, Flight Feet and Root Hands, Belladonna, See My Love, Moon Dance, Dancing With The Lion, Night Fire Dance and Cor Do Amor. The only reason I gave the album 4 stars was because some songs sounded a bit strange.
The bonus material on this CD includes: songs with new mixes, mulltimedia cd including the music video of pearls and tears and a new song "Pace Verde"
If you don't own any albums by Andreas Vollenweider and are thinking of buying one I would recommend this one the most but if you already have this one I would recommend "Down To The Moon".
I hope you enjoy his music!
A Musical Experience.......2002-03-28
Less Than I Expected.......2001-09-16
Not just "essential Vollenweider", simply essential!.......2001-04-29
First of all, let me just say that, contrarily to what's stated on the cover artwork, there is NO multimedia section on my copy of this disc.
Still, this 12th album by AV covers material from all his albums, except his first (which, contrarily to popular belief, only half of which is on "The Trilogy" set), "Eolian Minstrel" and "Live".
The songs presented here have been remastered and remixed by AV and long-time percussionist collaborator Pedro Haldemann, and tend to focus on his more joyful genre. His early albums have also been remastered a few years ago, but the selections here contain some rich textures: his earlier works are a lot more new-age and "natural" than his latest offerings. "Stella" is the only track from "Cosmopoly", an otherwise bland and generally "ethnic" album: I would even suggest you listen to the sound clip from that album, and you'll be amazed to see what sounds can come out of his harp: much closer to classical guitar than harp.
An excellent starting point for the novice; if you enjoy, start gathering the albums chronologically, as you'll notice a somewhat significant departure from "Book Of Roses" forward.

BLACK PEARLS: essential Coltrane album.......2005-09-20
Stunning.......2001-09-23
After Trane, Byrd collects himself and actually turns in a nice solo that contrasts nicely with Trane's fire-breathing one. His lines are laid back but sufficiently exploratory.
Lover Come back to Me is a fast tempoed tune that is ok and Sweet Saphire Blues features Garland on an extended solo turn. Overall though, Trane's transcendent performance on "Pearls" alone is worth the price of the cd.
Sapphire Sweet.......2000-09-15
There are two elements that set this disc apart from the rest. One, a diffent, more funky, almost Latin percussion sound that sweeps the tempo along nicely.
Two, the trumpeter Donald Byrd, who adds a nice element of a more subdued exhuberance. On his solos, he seems to be competing with the ever penetrating sheets of sound style that Coltrane was using. And he keeps up.
"Sweet Sapphire Blues" is one of my favorite Trane numbers of this period.
Masterful.

Black Pearls: The Poetry of Maya Angelou opens with the poet reading hard words: "No, the gap-legged whore on the eastern shore, enticing Europe to come into her"; "kneeling mothers picking undigested beans from yesterday's shit"; and "what a pity, the pity has folded in upon itself." The poet's rawness of vision and power seem capable of moving mountains. Some 30 years ago, when these words were recorded, Angelou was fierce, vital, justifiably angry. All this may not jibe with the weeping you did in junior high when you read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. It may not mesh with your vision of the gentle, elegant lady you know as the highly visible mentor and friend to Oprah Winfrey and the first-term inaugural poet to President Clinton. Yet know this: Angelou, a speaker of truth, not only survived cruel injustice but used words to burn through it and come to grace. As she says, "My crime is that I live to tell," and we desperately need her trespass in order to live with what we know and are unable to give voice to. --Paige La GroneCustomer Reviews:
