Caribean Steel Band.......2007-06-08

Pretty good CD. Reminds me of a band you'd hear at a beach Resort. The 2nd CD is mainly instrumental. Good pool side music.

I love love love this compilation of Caribbean music! I grew up listening to this in my parents' car, and I know all the lyrics to each song by heart. The music is so fun to listen to, and it's always upbeat. So many memories with this cd...

Cheat?.......2005-06-15

This was expected to be 2 CDs of Steel Drums.
Instead, one of the CDs has no steel drums, just some stuff I was not interested about.

I'm very disappointed, thinking this was their way of getting rid of an unwanted CD, by packaging with something more interesting.

Fun Caribbean Party Music.......2001-07-07

This cover band does a great job with some old Caribbean classics! I enjoy the songs "River of Babylon" and "One Love". The steel band version of Guantanamera is terrific... but my all time favorite is cut #6 "Barbados"!!! It starts with the pilot from Coconut airways and the sound of a plane taking off! It's alot of fun and worth buying for that song alone... this CD is definately worth it!

Paradise.......2001-07-06

What you need to do is have a candlelit bath with this music playing (with a cd player that is at a safe distance from the water!). The second disc of this set is PERFECT for this! It is paradise!!!

The cover photo boasts a steel band in full regalia, but don't be misled. This bright collection showcases an unnamed pop group having a ball mainly with Jamaican reggae classics, though strangely enough there's a vague Polynesian flavor to some of the arrangements. No matter. The real strengths here are vocals that do justice to Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" and "I Shot the Sheriff," Jimmy Cliff's "You Can Get It If You Really Want," Desmond Dekker's ska masterpiece "The Israelites," and Ziggy Marley's "Tomorrow People." A must for backyard barbecues with jerk chicken on the menu.--Bob Tarte

Generic Carribean music.......2003-02-23

One of the other reviews said this was pasteurized for Canadian tastes. That pretty much sums it up. It's pretty much cruise ship band music for older Canadians. It might work for a yuppie soccer mom barbeque with tiki torches in New Jersey, but it sure don't have a hint of authenticity. Having said that, you probably know most of the songs, can sing along happily, and hell, it is vaguely reminiscent of my last vacation.

Pasteurized.......2000-03-29

This recording sounds a little like it was pasteurized for Canadian tastes. While it was recorded in the Caribbean, it does not sound like local artists were used.

Every song on this CD is excellent.......1999-07-26

We bought this CD to take with us on our last trip to St. John. We were hopeful that this CD would set the mood while we were there, and it did exactly that.
