5 out of 5 stars Club FUNK Africa.......2006-02-11

this is a great CD...a nice fusion of african drum with a vintage funk vibe. I came across this looking for samba club music, for artists like cibelle and bebel gilberto, but i was very happy to find this CD. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys world music and is looking for something with African beats, yet contemporary and completely funky-ied. Talking drum was my favorite.

5 out of 5 stars This is what I was searching for!.......2002-11-22

African funk lives on in this terrific collection of songs from across Africa. Manu Dibango and Hugh Masakela are the stars, but the funkiest stuff comes from the guys I never heard of. Every song on this collection is a gem and they are all different. It's fascinating how James Brown's style was picked up back in the place where the rhythm ultimately originated. The guitars, the horns, the wailing organ could all be behind JB in a 1969 show. I have long been a fan of James Brown, George Clinton, Tower of Power and Sly Stone. But the rest of the field was way behind those guys and then American funk declined into disco in the 1970s. Now I discover where it went! This CD is all I could hope for!
