Loved this c.d.
Streisand's rendition of MEMORY has always been my favorite version of the song outside of the show...Betty Buckley's is my favorite within the show. I am a Streisand afficiando, and this is my FAVORITE Streisand song period..so it must be good...
Michael Ball singing anything is wonderful...It captures the wonderful feeling of being on a cloud when you listen to this album

Has no one else noticed that on the version of this CD produced in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada "Past the Point of No Return" from "The Phantom of the Opera" is NOT Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman? The male is obviously Colm Wilkenson (most famous for originating the role of Jean Valjean), apparently the soprano is Rebecca Caine?

If you are an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, you probably already own some of the versions of songs on this CD. Having them all in one package is nice. I like to listen to this at work, as I know the music so well that it is nice background. I could do without Amigos Para Siempre.

Even Better than the Original.......2001-08-18

This anthology is definately better than the original Premiere recording. Here we get the star who were famous for the part they are performing. On the original collection, Phantom of the Opera was sung by someone I had never heard of and the tone and atmosphere were all wrong. I am pleased to say that here we get performers who are established in the role or are well-known for including the song in shows or other recordings. I love "Amigas para siempre," "Hosanna," and all the others. I find it fascinating that we get two Josephs fot the price of one. Not only can we compare the merits of Donny Osmond and Michael Damian, but two others as well

stand up !.......2006-07-03

Let me first state that i have ranked this album 4 stars....4 stars for the "stand up" track, and zero for the rest of the album....i dont know why you would by this album other than for the stand up " track!!!and what a track it is. the rest can be played at your kids party as long as they are under 10 years of age!

if you are a football nut, and took holidays just to sit up at 11pm, 1am 3am and 5am (basically live noctural), to watch the socceroos, etc, you would have felt the spine tingling "stand up" anthem blared after each match was completed. This track by the italian love song maestro patrizio buanne is the only good song on this album and is well worth the money just to have this rendition in your collection.
There are some other moments such as a remix of whitney houston's i wanna dance with somebody and a remix of the old naughty by nature hit hip hob hooray but like 99% of all remixes not done by the original artists they done live up to the bill.
All in all young kids will love the album and not go for the "stand up" track (cause its an old traditional track), as it is aimed at them, however as i said the rendition of "Stand up" is that good, that classic, that overwhelming and will remain in the hearts of all football nuts like myself especially bringing back memories of the after match pictures of Tim Cahill and john aloisi as they took the socceroos to where they had never been to before.
What a track!!! 4 stars for the track 0 stars for the rest of the album

this cd is excellent, i like yousuf's song, "do you mind if i play" the most, i really love it and can't seem to get enough.
r.martin is pretty cool too, all the songs in this cd are diffrent and yet relate to soccer, so if you like soccer, this cd is for you, and even if you don't like soccer, if you appreciate good music, listen to this cd.

This CD is brilliant.
I also recently heard about one which is raising money for charity, which I heard on the radio. It really is one of the best football anthems I have come across - keep an ear out for it, because it will be big.
It is by Dexter and called "New World Cup" and all profits are going to Sport Relief! Apparently it has a UK website too.

A great mix of music........2001-09-02

This is an interesting CD. The collection of music from all over the planet means that there is probably something that anybody would like on it. Some of the songs are just good... there's also some really great ones. My favorites? Probably "Don't Come Home Too Soon" (Del Amitri), "Do You Mind If I Play" (Youssef N'Dour and Axelle Red), "Oh Eh" (Gipsy Kings) and "Hot Legs" (MATCH), the latter being simply hysterical. Of course, picking my favorites from here is really tough, because almost all of them are good.

Even my friends who don't like futbol like this CD....Its lively and fun and has some great variety. Only 1 or 2 songs that make you wonder why they're with the rest. Don't be fooled into thinking this CD is Ricky... he's only one song...Most of the other songs are even better than Ricky Martin's -because we're listening to the music, not looking at him. The African songs are especially good. There's even some humour (Hot Legs). If you don't like it at first - give it a few listens... it'll grow on you soon enough. Can't wait to see what they put together for 2002!

Lovely Instrumental.......2007-03-20

I love this one and Carolan's Cottage by Joemy Wilson.
Even someone who's never heard of the legendary Turlough O'Carolan will be captivated by this collection of his music. Joemy Wilson's flowing ripple of notes gives the proper lilt to the music on hammered dulcimer. Guitar, flute, violin, and celtic harp contribute but don't overwhelm the pure sound.
O'Carolan's music is always a treat and this album is a favorite of mine. I highly recommend it to all celtic music fans and for that matter, anyone who loves music.

I've had this tape in my collection for years, I played it so often, it broke, then I replaced it with the cd.

When I first bought it, I had moved from a sunny climate to a dreary rainy and foggy place, this music helped me through the sad times with it's uplifting, lilting sounds. The melody laughs out loud, and you can't help but to let your soul smile.

I have owned this album for more than a decade, and it remains one of my favorites. I find that listening to it helps me clear my mind and improve my mood - there is a joy in the melodies that is infectious. This is very engaging music, but be warned, it can be habit-forming.

This is my favorite of all of Joemy Wilson's works........1999-01-20

I first heard Joemy Wilson play O'Carolan's music in 1987 at Christmas in July in Oceanside, CA. I had never heard of O'Carolan and was unfamiliar with the hammered dulcimer, but the bright music of this recording struck a chord with me. I bought my first Joemy Wilson tape that day and I was hooked. I went back the next year and bought 2 more, and the next year 3 more. I have since heard other artists perform O'Carolan's works, but no one has come close to Joemy. Of all her recordings, this is still my favorite. I am glad to see amazon.com carries her work.

Album Description

In 1983, Patrick Ball released the first record in his Celtic Harp series. Now, ten years and five releases later, he has completed his most personal work to date. Fiona is a collection of traditional songs that includes some of the most beautiful and haunting tunes of the Celtic world - and is named after Patrick Ball's new daughter, Fiona.

For many years, the Celtic harp, with its unique resonance and clear, bell-like sound was an important part of Celtic life, especially in Ireland and in France's Celtic province, Brittany. The few harps which survived into the 20th century, did so as museum pieces, and their incredibly large and varied repertoire began to sink into obscurity, too. Naturally, as musicians and listeners have rediscovered the beauty of these instruments, the old songs and laments have been rediscovered as well.

On Fiona, Ball includes two of Ireland's most enduring and memorable folk songs: She Moved Through the Fair, an oft recorded classic which can now finally be heard in its original form, and Brian Boru's March, an ancient tune marking the brief unification of Ireland in the 11th century. Traditional songs from Scotland and Brittany also appear, along with a work by Turlough O'Carolan, whose popular music has been a feature of each of Patrick Ball's six recordings for Celestial Harmonies/Fortuna. Ball's wire-strung harp is the focus of this recording, but the traditional Irish pipes, whistles, and fiddle provide an occasional complement on several pieces.

Not all the discs of new age, works

Track 2 has realy magic.

More than just another Celtic harp album.......1999-12-09

I own a fair number of Celtic harp albums and have listened to more, including Patrick Ball's four previous albums. While almost all of it has been pleasant, this one is a real standout. Where many albums offer still more versions of over-familiar melodies, this one is striking in its originality. Where some performances give the impression of tinkling music boxes or technical expertise that is somehow boring, this one is riveting and evocative. Some purists may find it insufficiently traditional, but I found it beautifully imaginative. Unlike reviewers who preferred this musician's earlier albums, to me this is the most interesting and moving of them all. "Fiona" came out in 1993; I am hoping that Mr. Ball is near to producing another album. Given the progression through his earlier work, I can hardly wait to see what he does next.

As always, Ball presents spirited virtuoso performances that elucidate traditional tunes and show off the nuances of the wire-strung Celtic harp. I like this album less than some of his previous ones because I think the material isn't as strong: he's a better performer than composer, and some of the traditional material strikes me as rather uninteresting compared with tunes he's recorded before. I couldn't agree more with the guy from Australia; this CD is aweful compared to the France '98 CD. I was very disappointed. The artists are soooooooo lame. One of the worst CD purchases I ever made.

This CD is great! (Unlike the other reviewers, I took the time and read the CD insert, and if people actually took the time to read the CD insert, they would see how this album is connected to the 2002 FIFA World Cup....) Full of soulful and well written songs, this is truly an international compilation that you will enjoy!

No so much soccer...but GREAT MUSIC.......2003-02-10

Although many or most of the songs don't involve football (soccer) as a theme, this CD is still a great selection of music from all around the world that sums up the emotion that the World Cup brings to all of us. Even if this CD [stunk], I would still buy it as a piece of the memory that was the World Cup 2002. I HIGHLY SUGGEST this CD to anyone who loves world music or football.

Hey, I love football with all my heart but this cd just isn't very good. The music is hardly about football, and it has no energy at all. There are a few tracks which I like, "Let it Out" probably being my favorite, but it still does not make me think about football. The anthem by Vangelis is good, but if you can, try to download the JS16 remix. (very good!) So if you want a really great cd that captures the energy and excitement of an event like this, don't buy this cd. BUY THE OFFICIAL EURO2000 CD! That is the greatest football cd ever made!! (and was a much better tournament as well!) Peace fellow football fans!

Who cares if the music has anything to do with soccer or the World Cup. The music is from artist from all over the WORLD. It's a great CD to just pop in a have playing in the background -- wonderful variety. For anyone who likes a good mix of music -- you are sure to enjoy this 2 disc set. I've given 3 as gifts and everyone LOVES it.

I really can't figure out why the album named "the voices from the FIFA World Cup". Many songs in the CD are not related to soccer or FIFA.

I'm only giving this album one star because I can't give it zero...

Don't get me wrong; some of the songs are pretty good- and the artists are all good singers. But I'm rating the album on the whole.

This is album is so disappointing for me because... the songs have nothing to do with soccer!!! How can they call this 'official music of the World Cup?' They just put together these previously released songs- and a couple new ones- and the result was this cd. Buy it if you like the artists and the songs. Don't buy it because you wanted soccer-related songs and music.

I hope 2010 will remember previous World Cup albums.
