It's fitting that the Kid Rock revival got started when the Beastie Boys featured him in their Grand Royal magazine--and not because the kid from Detroit shares their skin tone. Rock has often been compared with the early Beasties--the boys of "Fight for Your Right to Party" and "Brass Monkey," the boys no one ever thought would grow up. With lines like "I ain't straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the trailer" and "I started an escort service--for all the right reasons," it's obvious that Kid Rock doesn't aim to follow suit. But that's no hindrance to Devil--backed by the funky metal band Twisted Brown Trucker and special guests like blues vets Robert Bradley and Thronetta Davis, Rock is hosting one hell of an interesting party. Ultimately, Rock's party is great, schlocky fun, equal parts old Beasties and Sebastian Bach--making Devil a guilty pleasure, the Starship Troopers of hip-hop. --Randy SilverCustomer Reviews:
A Modern Detroit Rock Classic.......2007-07-12
When listening to this album it's key to remember the source and time that it came out. It was released right around the time of the Limp Bizkit era and the rap / rock fusion sound is what we were listening to at the time. This combined with the fact that Kid was originally a Detroit rapper should alone explain the overall sound of the album. If it doesn't then you should consider the source...
It was released by a Detroit artist for a Detroit audience. You're talking about the town where to this day Bob Seger has outsold the Beatles (and with good reason, if you ask me). The music scene in Detroit has always been a little off kilter to the rest of the country, so if you're buying the album specifically for "Only God Knows Why" then you'll be disappointed and should buy the single instead.
You should buy this album if you're looking for a specific sound that you won't hear duplicated anywhere else, before or since.

Fashion shows tend to be set to pretty cutting-edge music these days, but you'd hardly know it based on the soundtrack to this movie on life at a fashion mag: Not only does it start with Madonna, but the song is "Vogue"--pretty much the single most obvious choice there could be. That said, "Vogue" remains a great track: It hasn't aged one bit since its 1990 release, and fits in well with the first of two variations on dance music offered here: club anthems (see also DJ Colette's "Feelin' Hypnotized," David Morales and Tamra Keenan's "Here I Am") and sophisticated lounge (Bitter:Sweet's "Bittersweet Faith," Mocean Worker's "Tres Tres Chic"). The latter style also feeds directly into Theodore Shapiro's score, which is represented only on the jazzy suite that concludes the CD. The balance of the tracks is made up of elegant, well-crafted songs that feel perhaps a bit too polite (Alanis Morissette's cover of Seal's "Crazy," Moby's "Beautiful"). It would have been nice to get more curve balls, like the aforementioned Mocean Worker and Azure Ray's lovely "Sleep," which fans of Imogen Heap should dig. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

About the soundtrack i can say that is very good, I,ve heard it almost a million times already. Very good indeed both. I rate the movie and the soundtract with 5 stars. Bravo.
Realy Great!.......2007-04-25
This Cd is very good, no it's great and I think that is really just want that one song, DOWNLOAD IT OFF ITUNES FOR 99 Cents. It not like it cost a ton of money people. GOODNESS!
Well anyways, this Cd, as I said, is amazing. I really enjoy it when doing my school work or when I am trying to relax. I especially like SLEEP and FEELIN' HYPNOTIZED. The best of the best though, I have to admiot is VOGUE. Really a classic song and is probably going to really make you feel like jumping down to the Marc Jacobs Store or the Macys or Saxs 5th Ave. and get a pair of Jimmy Choo's.
It's just fine!.......2007-04-22
Everytime I turn on the tv, there's a preview of some movie with that SAME SONG as its background music. Yeah, it's a great song, but it's not the only good one out there and certainly not the only good one by Ms. Tunstall!
This soundtrack, however, attempts to bring the listener in touch with some lesser known bands and music genres. There's Bittersweet Faith...the song that played while Andy was at her friend Lily's gallery opening and the hot writer kissed her. Besides that is an AMAZING cover of Seal's "Crazy" by Alanis Morrissette.
And since most people KNEW that the song "Suddenly I See" wasn't on the track listing...why, I ask, did they purchase it?
Perhaps they wanted something to complain about.

Brand New have specialized in pain ever since the pop-punk emo-rage of their 2001 debut release Your Favorite Weapon. But they've outdone themselves on The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. If the songs on Weapon were paper cuts, the ones here are gaping chainsaw wounds, full of seismic, howling agony. The moody rumbles of 2003's Deja Entendu were pointing here, but this is something else, with Mogwai-level dynamic range and tracks that careen from introspection to fury and back again. Lyrically, lead singer Jesse Lacey's words remain excruciating and harrowing things, but that's nothing new. It's the music propping them up which gives this effort such depth and punch. "Degausser" starts so innocently, then uses a bridge augmented with a bitter children's chorus straight out of The Wall as a lead in to Lacey's bitter refrain of "I'll never say anything right." Then there's the nearly 8-minute "Limousine (MS Rebridge)," epic, and epically sad, constantly threatening to descend into pure cacophony (and eventually succeeding). Repeated listens will tune your ear to the band's still-intact pop sense (especially on "Not the Sun" and "The Archers Bows Have Broken"), which keeps the record lively and unpredictable, and away from becoming a depressing, head-in-the-oven mope. Brand New went through three years of intense recording sessions to make it happen, but it was worth the effort. --Matthew CookeCustomer Reviews:

I love this.......2007-07-18
Mama kin has grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat guitar. I dont wanna miss a thing is so good. cryin', well, you get the good rock part, but it is so confusing because they change it to sad parts in the chourus (and some of the verses...........) The song i hate is sedona sunrise.
devils got a new disguise it is preety good. Rocking, but in the back of my head, there is something that is really pizarre, much of a difference.
Last child is a cool song. in the beginning it is kind of weird.
Dream on is ok. But weird. Walk this way is preety good. Run dmc messes up the rock of aerosmith. Love in a elavator is pretty good. But when they say 'hoh hoh' in the chourus, it is kind of weird. My fave song is jaded. livin on the edge is good. My second fave song is sweet emotion.
janies got a gun is good.
Devil's Got A New Disguise.......2007-03-28
Useless. Well not entirely there are two new great songs on this compalation. In the history of rock n' roll no other band has had this many compalations. Thats right Aerosmith holds the crown with far more then Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and yes even The Beatles. The thing that blows many Aerosmith fans minds is that of all the compalations the band has released or that the record company has released only one has been any good, O Yeah Ultamate Aerosmith Hits. It covered the whole career. It had it all and left nothing out, it wasnt a best of but a hits collection and it gave you all the hits not the best of. This however is called a "Very Best Of" a term I am using loosley. While this does serve more as a greatest hits because all it has is hits it is missing the real "Very Best Of" Aerosmith. There is no (original) 'Walk This Way' 'Mama Kin' or even the cult classic 'Let The Music Do The Talkin.'
Now as a "starter kit" for new Aero fans or even for that casual fan who wants an Aerosmith cd for the car this would be fine...except almost all the songs are remixes and alternate versions other then what was the hit.Which is cool that the songs are being released in different versions for die-hards like myself but they are going about this the wrong way. Rerelease the classic albums and pu tthe alternate versions as bonus tracks...what a genius idea... Now that is the smart thing to do, but as we all know Steven Tyler is natorious for doing things the difficult way, but is that not what we all love about him.
The biggest problem I guess I have with this compalation is what true Aerosmith fan really perfers the Run-DMC version of 'Walk This Way' to the original. You will be hard pressed to find someone who will actually say that, and it is with concediration that it revivved their career and it is a classic but no more so than the original. This is also why I would recomend O Yeah to this because it contains both versions.
'Sedona Sunrise' is the first of the two new tracks. It is a nice ballad with incredible guitar work from Joe and Brad. Steven's vocals as always are amazing. The title track 'Devils Got A New Disguise' is a nice rocker in the same vine as the songs on Get A Grip. Great guitar work again, the vocals are killer and the lyrics are also very well written. Tom actually plays some great bass here as he always does but on this track it really stands out. Joey lays down a nice solid groove for the rest of the guy sto build off of and even though this will not it has the makings of a hit single. My only problem with these songs is that I wish they would have been saved for a regular studio album.
So over all, all the songs are great and are really classics in Aerosmiths cannon. But most people already own all of these. With a few adjustments this would be a great way to start an Aerosmith collection, but really this is just something for die-hards like myself.
How sad..........2007-03-23
This is probably just to fulfill a contractual agreement.

Not content with the simplistic "crossover" formula, superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli has been pursuing alternative paths since he emerged as a vocal phenomenon in the mid-1990s: operatic classics and contemporary popular song. The singer's last few albums have showcased his love for the former (including homages to his beloved Verdi: the Requiem and Verdi aria collection). But Cieli di Toscana ("Tuscan Skies") marks a triumphant return to the pop idiom last explored on Sogno, offering a highly varied series of the kind of beautifully crafted contemporary melodies that initially won Bocelli acclaim. The familiar cast of songwriter-collaborators (including Francesco Sartori, responsible for the smash success "Time to Say Goodbye") mixes with new blood; Bocelli himself unveils his songwriting talents on "Il Diavolo e l'Angelo." It's a highly produced affair, but behind all the gloss, Bocelli sings with a newfound, relaxed, even mellow quality. There are intimately touching moments--"L'Incontro," a tribute to his first son featuring Bocelli's own poetry as read by U2's Bono--as well as soaring flights of lyricism (the duet "L'Abitudine" with Italian singer Helena). And on "Mascagni," with its quotes from that composer's operas, Bocelli makes another nod to his classical affinities. But whatever the style, Bocelli is a singer who knows how to go straight to his listeners' hearts. --Sarah Chin

With stunning album-length explorations of jazz and 1950s acoustic skiffle and a country-rockabilly collaboration with Linda Gail Lewis behind him, Van Morrison continues exploring classic country with compelling reinterpretations of standards from the 1950s to the 1970s. He reaches back over half a century for Hank Williams Sr.'s "Half As Much," "Your Cheatin' Heart," and "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" and Webb Pierce's landmark honky-tonk hits "Back Street Affair," "There Stands the Glass," and "More and More." Moving to the mid-'60s, he capably explores George Jones's "Things Have Gone to Pieces" and Connie Smith's "Once a Day." The 1970s are his limit, however, as he probes Rodney Crowell's "'Til I Gain Control Again." Three Morrison originals blend nicely into this mix, as do two non-country favorites: Chuck Willis's "What Am I Living For" and a gleeful spin on Blue Lu Barker's 1938 jazzy, single-entendre favorite "Don't You Make Me High." Recorded in Ireland with uncluttered hard-country backing, Pay the Devil reiterates Morrison's own musical diversity and flair for making any song his own. --Rich Kienzle

About the Artist
There's a reason they call Van Morrison the Belfast Cowboy. Now with Morrison's latest album Pay The Devil, that good reason has resulted in a great new album. From the start, the deeply soulful sounds of the American South helped inspire Morrison to one of the most enduring and consistently impressive careers in music history. For forty-years, he's drawn upon the greats of Rhythm & Blues to create his own distinctive and influential blend of soul and Celtic influences. On Pay The Devil, Morrison explores his inner cowboy more than ever before -- recording a compelling mix of his favorite country compositions as well as a few equally strong originals that more than earn their place among such distinguished company. And just as Morrison's longtime hero Ray Charles did once upon a time on Modern Sounds in Country & Western Music, Morrison has taken some enduring, endlessly relevant songs of the south and somehow made them all his own. Those who have been following Van Morrison for years might praise him for his remarkable range in taking this turn down a country road. Recent years have seen Morrison cover the musical waterfront with recordings that touch upon traditional Irish music, jazz, skiffle and other musical forms that move him. But the secret of Morrison's ongoing artistic success is that he has never followed fashion in the slightest. Rather he continues to be a working musician who simply follows his own soulful muse wherever it may lead him. The outstanding, plainspoken songs on Pay The Devil range from the familiar, like Morrison's impressive take on Hank Williams' "Your Cheating Heart" and Webb Pierce's "There Stands The Glass" to somewhat less familiar Country & Western gems. It is a true tribute to Morrison's genius as a vocal stylist that he can take a song as often covered as "Half As Much" -- recorded over the years by everyone from Hank Williams to Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris - and manage to make it feel new all over again. He does so by clearly connecting with country's timeless themes of love and loss and life, sin and salvation. Through it all, Morrison proves to be one hell of a fine, subtle straight-ahead country singer in the grand tradition of George Jones. Indeed, one of Pay The Devil's many highlights is Morrison's take on "Things Have Gone To Pieces," a dark gem written by Leon Payne that Jones made famous. Then there's "What Am I Living For?" -- an old Chuck Willis number. Listen to how ! Morrison delivers Rodney Crowell's early masterpiece "Til I Gain Control Again" -- one of the more recent copyrights included here and a standout effort on an album full of them. Yet even among such high standards, Morrison's originals here are among the highlights - including "Playhouse" a sly, infectious song that one wishes the Genius of Soul had lived to record, and the title track - a reflection on making the devil's music and a fine reminder that "one man's meat is another man's poison" To listen to Pay The Devil, one might naturally assume that Morrison has traveled to Nashville and handed himself over to Music City's finest players and producers. Remarkably, Morrison has done nothing of the sort - recording Pay The Devil in Ireland with the same wonderful musicians who have been playing with him for years now with exceptional results. Even more remarkably, it turns out that Morrison has never even been to Nashville before. Regardless of that, he has made a classic album that sounds like Nashville at its finest and stands as tall as anything that's come out of the town in recent years. Pay The Devil is not just great country music, it's great music - whatever country you happen to come from. We've come to expect no less from Morrison. Finally, the Belfast Cowboy has come home.Album Description
Pay The Devil is comprised of 15 tracks; three of these are originals and 12 are covers of some of Van Morrison's favorite classic country songs, including 'Your Cheatin Heart', 'Things Have Gone To Pieces' and 'Big Blue Diamonds'. Lost Highway. 2006.Customer Reviews:

This album is no exception. Morrison has joined by great musicians, but he is leading the pack. Firmly in the pocket when he wants to be, shifting slightly out of it when he needs to. People who say he's not being as inventive "taking ownership" etc., are right. He doesn't need to. THe songs are great. The originals are great, Morrison is great. He owns any song he puts his immense presence behind.

Perfect For a Fan.......2007-05-20
If you are just discovering Todd Snider, Buy "The Devil You Know" first.
Good, but not the place to start.......2007-05-20
Regardless of your opinion of some of his more "sophomoric" tracks like "Beer Run," the album "Near Truths..." crackles with energy, making it one of the best live albums I've ever heard. I know that Todd Snider has had somewhat of a career resurgence in the past few years, owing to the success of "Nashville Skyline" and "The Devil You Know" (which are, admittedly, two of his best albums). I also realize that part of his newfound success owes to the more serious tone of those albums (although anyone who thinks that Todd Snider has only recently become a "serious" artist probably isn't familiar with early songs like "I Spoke as a Child," "I Can't Complain" or even later-day gems like "Waco Moon").
But those albums, serious as they were, were still spirited and passionate. This E.P., on the other hand, mostly sounds leaden, as if the audience was too reserved or too indifferent to respond to songs that practically demand interaction. And that's too bad. I've seen him live probably a dozen times, and every time I've seen him, including on the tour for "The Devil You Know," the crowd vibe and his performance level were closer in feel to "Near Truths...," that is, energetic and high-spirited. I just wish he'd released one of those shows instead of this one. If you like the songs here, get the album "The Devil You Know." The versions on that album are, by and large, better than the ones here. This album is not bad, but it's definitely not the place to start.
Not "Hotel Rooms, Part II". Better material, for one thing........2007-05-18
While the absence of the sympathetic arrangements and skillful playing found on that studio album may initially put you off of these live, solo cuts, by the time he gets to "I'm sure she is/But that's not all she is" in the fourth song, you'll be as deeply into the narrative groove as he is. And if you aren't, I have to wonder if you'll continue as a Todd Snider fan. Because these days, being a Todd Snider fan means being able to sort out the multiple definitions of the word "we" in "We can't just kill what we don't understand", rather than being able to recite all the words to "Beer Run."
Note: The last lyrics he sings to this small Nashville crowd, some of whom he inevitably knows, are "You're all that matters/To me."

Most Consistently Excellent Dave Matthews Offering.......2006-09-12
"Save Me" is an excellent example of Dave's trademark ability to combine the spiritual and the sensual-thumping into a smokey bit of audio divinity. "Stay or Leave" gets a lot of play on the acoustic rock satellite radio channels I listen to, and deservedly so. All of these songs benefit from the textured and expert percussion that Dave's band supplies and the ability Dave has to work the upper range of his voice ("Oh," and especially "An' Another Thing") as well as the lower ("Trouble").
The minimal, haunting "Some Devil" title track is another favorite of mine. Just Dave and a somewhat percussive, low electric guitar.
I could go on and on. Don't take my word for it. Look at the other thoughtful reviews and get this CD.

Third time isn't the charm..........2007-05-05
No longer under Shrapnel Records, this album is the first under 60 Cycle Hum Records. Note that although there are eleven tracks, three of them are a minute and a half or less in length. We are still given fifty-five minutes of shredding and radiant music, however. Another thing worth noting is the cover of Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle." Since there are never vocals in John's solo albums, the vocals for this song are replicated with the guitar, and it's a pleasant treat.
John handles all guitars, but like with his last release, Songs for Sanity, there are guest appearances. "The Werewolf of Westeria" features Joe Satriani, "Black Widow of La Porte" features Jim Root, and "The Washing Away of Wrong" features Eric Johnson. John also handles the banjo and bass (but with contributions from Piggy D. and Matt Bissonette). He has truly made a name for himself leaving Manson, joining Rob Zombie, and releasing three solo albums. As each solo album passes, I give more and more appreciation for his talent.

The title of White Zombie's first mainstream success promises some good, trashy fun, and boy does this album deliver. White Zombie is not a nihilistic, the-world-is-rotten heavy metal band; on the contrary, one doubts that they're in danger of taking anything too seriously, and the humor is audible in every riff. La Sexorcisto is rife with distorted guitars, snippets of dialogue from horror movies, and songs about fast cars ("Black Sunshine"), loose women ("Grindhouse (A-Go-Go)"), and the generally weird. Don't think about it too hard; sit back, relax, pop a cool one and crank up the stereo until it shakes your ceiling. -- Genevieve WilliamsCustomer Reviews:
