Album Description

Jazz guitarist Kenny Carr's "Turn the Page" is an original assortment of radio-friendly melodies with an underlying influence of blues as he draws upon his decade of experience playing guitar for Ray Charles. Turn the Page features 2005 Grammy-nominated tenor saxophonist, Donny McCaslin, as well as highlighting nationally renowned acoustic bassist Tom Baldwin. New York-based musicians, organist John Dryden as well as drummer Frank Russo, complete the esteemed list of talented musicians appearing on this CD. Much of the music on "Turn the Page" was written to highlight the acoustic bass, which on the CD becomes a vital foundation for the melodies.

"Turn the Page", Kenny Carr's sophomore release, is a much anticipated follow-up to his critically-acclaimed and well-received debut CD "Friday at Five".

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars I play this CD at all my parties!.......2006-11-02

I loved Kenny Carr's first CD (Friday at Five) but Turn the Page really shows how versatile he can be. There is a piece for every mood - my favorites are Cadiz Sunset, Turn the Page, Going Home, Lost Tuesday, and I love he kicks it up with Soho Strut, Bleeker Street and a couple others. This is one of my favorite new CDs and I'll definitely be giving this one out as Christmas gifts this year!

    4 out of 5 stars Damage Incorporated...WE CHEW & SPIT YOU OUT.......2000-07-24

Turn the page is a classic Bob Rock influenced song available on Garage INC., but your real money is spent on Damage, INC.(Live) & Fuel(The Video). Damage, INC. runs (4:55) as compared to its (5:08) on Master of Puppets. But if you subtract the 1:15 intro from the Master of Puppets version, it is actually played a little longer. A very fast & ferocious song that is one of my favorites from Master of Puppets. It's great to have The Fuel Video at your disposal & ready to play whenever you want, which is welcome in my books with MTV not playing much MetallicA anymore. Also you still get the audio from Fuel if just played through your stereo. Total CD running time, 3 tracks (15:39)

      3 out of 5 stars Honourable Mention.......2005-05-01

This is a well-balanced cd. There are a lot of solid tunes and one cannot help but hear the 60s influence. Tom Hakava from Stockholm should meet these guys. I like their folkier side yet I can certainly get down to the punk oriented tunes such as "Same Old Song". This is not necessarily on my top ten albums list although, I would include it on my 'must have' list. I like this band and this cd a lot.

      3 out of 5 stars similar!.......2005-01-23

For all of you out there who want to know who this truly sounds like, it is sam roberts. sam roberts is also a canadian boy (but from québec), and his sound is slightly more varying i think. they both have a smooth, relaxed sound, but i know they've got rocker edge too! if you liked this one, or liked a couple songs on it, but found it iffy, go for sam roberts, as it is more solid.

5 out of 5 stars The best thing out of the Yukon since Pierre Berton.......2004-12-25

I must say, this is a wonderful album. After hearing their explosive single "Same Old Song" on the radio, I went into HMV figuring they may have them on a listening post or something. Sure enough, they did, and I liked what I heard just by skipping through it. So, I bought the CD, and I really do like it. Granted, some of the songs are a little repetitive, but you will get that with any band. I think there are some obvious musical similarities to someone like Sam Roberts, whose CD I also own. Both Canadian, both kind of chillin music, and a distinct sound.

Some standout tracks are: People Come On, an anthem that kind of says to me "come together"; Same Old Song, their single; You Gave It All, some nice guitar in that song; and The Shells, which trancends many styles of rock music.

Overall, I think this is a CD which has to grow on you. If you are thinking about purchasing this CD, do it. Not only because you're supporting Canadian music, but because you're supporting good Canadian music.

      5 out of 5 stars Beautifully crafted pop/rock pleasure........2004-11-17

Every Page You Turn is blessed with songs that have infectious melodies and lyrics that are memorable and open to different interpretations. There are a lot of strong influences from 1960's and 70's bands (Rolling Stones, The Who, The Byrds, to name a few) that occur naturally in the music as salutes to some of the bands that have influenced the young singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Stephen Noel Kozmeniuk. This album would be attractive to listeners of all ages because of the homage to earlier music and the retro movement to this music young people are now experiencing.

There is a very well balanced selection of songs, at least half- a-dozen of which would be strong singles. The current single, 'Same Old Song' is burning up the radio airplay charts in Canada. My favorite song on the album is 'The Shells' which gives you shivers with its beauty. The best review I could give is from an excerpt by Vancouver Sun music writer Tom Harrison from his October 26 review:

"This album touches on a variety of styles from country to folk and rock with some Pink Floyd atmosphere and one song 'Up In This Town', worthy of [Iggy Pop and] The Stooges. So, there is variety but it is all linked by Boy's flair for the magnificent. The songs have a bigness that tell you they matter and an urgency that beckons. 'People Come On', the first track, sounds like an anthem-to-be while what follows is rock at its most liberating."

This is a MUST HAVE CD.

      3 out of 5 stars It's not bad........2004-11-14

I heard how good this group is, and although I've never heard any of their songs prior to purchasing it (which is a big risk, I know), I thought I'd give them a try.

If you're familiar with Sloan and/or Coldplay, you'll start to notice a little bit of a similarity between the two bands. The group has a good general sound; the bass line's decent, good guitar riffs, and not bad vocals either.

The only complaint I have with this CD is that not too many songs stand out; all of the songs sound relatively the same. Although my personal favourite track is "You Gave it All", that seems to be the only one that stand out to me.

Personally, if you're looking to rock-out, I wouldn't recommend this band. But if you're trying to mellow out, or have something to listen to, Boy may be a good choice for you.

Time seems to have stood still for Don Williams. His first major-label release in five years has the gentle, traditional classicism that made him one of the biggest-selling country singers of the '70s. Once again every emotional piece is in place: the musicianship is acoustic, fresh, and picturesque, and Williams's deep, liquid phrasing and completely unaffected songwriting--as well as smart song selection, notably Kevin Welch's "Something 'Bout You"--have aged with mellow warmth. The elegiac story "Pancho," told from the convincing perspective of an aging Cisco, sounds like a lament for today's country music as much as a timeless outlaw ballad. "Pancho, don't you like me no more?" Williams sings. "Because, Pancho, we're heading towards our end." Even if radio finds Williams too old for airplay, lovers of country at its most introspective and subtle will find Williams's light, magical touch as inviting as ever. --Roy Kasten

4 out of 5 stars Classy and touching.......2004-10-19

Heartfelt melodies and a mature economy of words make this a first class entertainment. Don Williams understands perfectly the fundamentals of pop music without selling out like some lesser country artists thank you.

        5 out of 5 stars I Turn the Page.......2000-07-28

How wonderful to have a new album with new songs by my favorite Don Williams! Some to make you smile with memories of your own, some to bring a tear to your eye, and all guaranteed to make you move to the rythm of the music. The wonderful voice of Don Williams has done it again and we are all blessed because of this latest contribution. Hopefully it won't be long before he sends more our way.

5 out of 5 stars Don Williams Gets Better With Time.......1999-07-09

The more you listen to I turn the page the more you will love it. You find yourself getting wrapped up in the story of each song because Don's voice is so easy to listen to. Cracker Jack Diamond is a story of young love that stands the test of time. Ride On is for anyone who knows what it means to hurt and wants to get past it. There is Something About You, makes you want to change the way you drink your coffee in the morning. I Turn The Page is simply outstanding in every way from song selection, to Don's delivery to the music. Like sitting in front of a warm fire on a cold winter's day, I Turn The Page will warm your heart and soul. Sit back and enjoy.

        4 out of 5 stars A good album with a career-highlight song.......1999-02-14

This is a satisfying piece. And it will slip comfortably in with everything you already own by Don Williams. "How Did You Do It," buried deep in the album, is one of the finest tracks he has done (yet) - standing up there in its world-wise, wondered lament with "Good Old Boys" or "Lord I Hope This Day Is Good." This album won't win any airplay, and won't make any new fans (in the USA). But for those of us that love this man and his songs, this is another deep draught.

5 out of 5 stars WELCOME BACK DON.......1999-01-25

DON HAS DONE IT AGAIN, HE STILL HAS THE VOICE AND THE DETERMINATION TO THRIVE IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC COMMUNITY, KEEP IT UP AND MANY MORE.

I have seen Gloria Loring perform live and I saw her last week on "The View" speaking about her son's battle with Diabetes. She sang "I Always Will" and blew me away with her beautiful voice and genuine spirit. This song is the most precious gift a mother could give her child. The entire CD is wonderful. Gloria always sings from the bottom of her heart with every intention to please us all.
I also read her new book "Moving Past The Fear: Living With Type 2 Diabetes" What a resource for anyone dealing with the disease!!!

Gloria Loring sings with a power and clarity seldom heard in popular music. Turn the Page is another achievement in her prolific career. After listening to this album one feels they have been through a very personal musical journey. It is a journey which will touch your heart and leave you inspired. Be sure to check out her new CD By Request.

4 out of 5 stars Gloria truly has a wonderful voice.......2000-12-17

I have listened to Gloria Loring for many years, beginning with "Days of our Lives", then on cassettes, later. I have purchased all of her cassettes, and will be buying her newest one, "By Request", very soon. The song that touches my heart, though, is "A song of My Father". She really pours her heart and feelings out in a tribute song to her dad.

          5 out of 5 stars GOOD NEWS:.......2000-11-20

Great news for the fans of Gloria Loring. This CD, "Turn The Page" is one of the best she has recorded, but soon another one will be added to the long list. I recieved a letter from Gloria Loring herself and she is anticipating that her new album "By Request" will be available in the first part of December 2000 and avaible for shipping by Christmas. To all out there, if you do not have this CD "Turn The Page", I do suggest that you add it to your collection. Gloria Loring is a great singer and a wonderful person.
