A beautiful voice - wasted.......2007-07-10

I was introduced to Mary Fahl via October Project. I had never heard anything like them before or since and Fahl's voice is nearly beyond compare with anyone else, though as an earlier reviewer said, Annie Lennox and Carly Simon come close. I just don't think they have Fahl's range.
So, you can imagine after October Project's demise, I was looking forward to hearing more of Fahl. After-all, a voice like that just can't be silenced.
Too bad it wasn't - at least for the garbage on this album. Redemption is probably the only song that shows what she can do with her voice. The rest is just a waste of her talents. God, I certainly hope she does not go down the same road that Karen Carpenter did and make everything she sings sound like a funneral dirge. She's trying very hard with the muck written for this album to do just that. The writing credits alone should have been enough to give it away right there. HOW many people does it take to write ONE song? Apparently as many as want to have a say in it for this disaster. Listen, if you start getting more than two people tossing in their two cents worth on any one song, you had better consider not writing it, much less trying to sing it. It is going to sound like a collage of miss-matched ideas and influences. Gee - just like most of the music (if you can call it that) on this album! I certainly hope that Mary Fahl will be able to find another record label willing to take her on when her current one dumps her for this waste of money and resources - with the priviso of course that all she does is sing the songs a talented songwriter creates for her.

still, october proyect is the best and her voice is the best, but this cd is not the greates but think about if you like her and then buy it.

Beautiful and Perfect.......2007-01-09

The more I listen to this cd the more I am entranced with it. I have enjoyed Mary Fahl's voice since October Project. I am eagerly awaiting some more new material. She has a very powerful and touching voice. I gain something new each time I listen to her voice, music and lyrics. Thank you Mary!

Emotional Voice.......2006-06-09

Since when the founder October Project came to an end, Mary's voice was already one one of the highlights of the band. And this is proved here. A very good debut album!

Style departure.......2005-08-14

Like previous reviewers, I too was sceptical about this CD."The
Great Unknown" seems to be an October Project track right off, billowing, inspiring and lush, you would never know the difference. It is my favorite. The rest of the songs really take a departure in style from what I am used to hearing from Mary. Though enjoyable, she seems to be searching for an audience. I hope she continues to put out sounds which can inspire and provoke thought in their writing without getting too sentimental. Pretty girl, great voice, don't let them change your style.

Almost Perfect!.......2007-03-06

I find this CD so frustrating! The Lord's Prayer was the first LP I ever purchased, and it's impact and beauty have never left me. I had all but given-up every seeing it on CD until this reissue came along. Both LPs on one CD, how can you go wrong? You can't actually UNLESS you want the complete first LP. They left out ONE SELECTION ("O, My Father") - probaby a time consideration. In any event, two great LPs, the remastering isn't much. It pales against the original LPs, but its great to have most of the albums.

Re-released at Last!!!.......1999-02-01

I have been waiting to find this on CD for years, and am so happy to have found it. One of the best albums of religious music ever. The interpretations are simple and exquisite, the phrasing clear, and each choice harmonious and moving.

Now if you'd just offer the sequel, "The Lord's Prayer II"...

I have been listening to this recording in both its vinal and cd form since about 1966. I think it is the best of the MTC recordings of religious music with a good cross section of both Mormon and Mainline music.

Remember To Kick It Over.......2004-02-01

I think Rock & Roll misses Joe Strummer a lot more than any of us ever dreamed possible. He could be awful corny, in a Working Class Hero kind of way, and he sure didn't have the prettiest voice--but, between him and John Lennon, Rock and Pop had two great hearts.

There's something odd about Joe singing Marley's "Redemption Song," but who did more to bring Reggae to England and America? For me and a lot of other kids in the 70s and 80s--and with apologies to Clapton's "I Shot The Sheriff" and the old version of "Israelites" that charted in the States--it was Ska and the Clash that made Reggae beats real. That made North America's discovery of Marley and appreciation of Reggae complete. There's enough heart and soul in Strummer's voice to overcome the Rich White Boy Singing Poor Black Music goofiness inherant in this record.

"Arms Aloft" is a pretty good song; it could have fit into the GIVE'EM ENOUGH ROPE-era Clash sound. I've never had much use for Strummer sans Mick Jones, but this is a step up from the disastrous CUT THE CRAP LP Strummer put out under the Clash moniker or almost anything else he did post-Clash. The 1/3-speed version of "Armagideon Time" that closes out this CD proves my point. Everything from the original version is included--except the passion and the energy. And without passion and energy, the Clash was....what? Haircut 100?

Who else could have sang "This is Joe Public...SPEAKING!" and made it sound so real, so true, so righteous--so RIGHT ON--and had cynics like me believing it? I miss that kind of ass-kicking hope and belief in Rock.

And I think Rock misses Strummer--and Lennon, and Marley, and a lot of others--more than it is ever willing to admit. Rock--or the Rock Establishment, as exemplified by MTV and Rolling Stone magazine--likes to pretend that The Strokes and The White Stripes and a bunch of others are filling the gaps. They are good bands, but they also waste way too much time and energy posing and primping with no heart or soul involved. Posthumous releases like this are fine, though they point out all too clearly the inadequacies of today's batch of soon-to-be-has-beens.

A ska version of Armagideon Time.......2004-01-22

If your reading this, you're a Strummer completist and already have Streetcore. The new tune here is a horn driven Armagideon Time. It's worth the money if you want to here a more ska oriented version of this classic.

This is an inspirational CD, collecting some of Rev. Graham's sermons and heartwarming music from his many years of service to the Lord. Who can resist Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, The Lord's Prayer, Just As I Am, and others - they bring tears to the eyes and lump to the throat.

This was the first taste of The Redemption Song to the general public thanks to Future Destination Records out of W. Virginia. The energy of the live show translates well to these sing-along anthems of hardcore punk fury. Any fan of Comeback Kid or the Refused would do well to get this. Plus, the photography/layout is awesome!

Excellent.......2006-03-17

The Redemption Song deliver the excellent abrasive hardcore punk their fans have grown acustomed to but with a few new elements that make the sound all the more wonderful. Between the great vocal trade offs and the massive amounts of gang vocals you'll be quite pleased with the release. Producer Brett Siler retained the raw, dirty sound that worked so well on their previous EP with a little more sweetness added by Alan Douches at West West Side who mastered the project. The lyricism is first rate touching on topics of bleakness and hope with equal attention. The majority of the material you hear on this release is new but a couple of re-worked tunes appear from their previous EP as well. You'd do well to pick this one up if you dig Comeback Kid, Refused or heavy punk in general. Wesley Johnson - Buzzgrinder.com
