Bought This For One Song.......2007-06-27
iTunes doesn't have the English version of 'Coming Home', so I bought this album. I don't get why Peter Schilling was so big in Europe, I don't think he's that great. The title track is pretty good but I heard that it was produced later; it's got a rhythm similar to New Order's, True Faith. All the other tracks are fair to mediocre.
The Different Story (World of Lust and Crime)..........2007-06-02
My absolute favorite from Herr Schilling: Major Tom! 4..3..2..1!
Five stars!
Overlooked but excellent.......2007-02-11
I can't believe Schilling got such little airplay here in the states, especially in a time when synth rock ruled the airwaves. Schilling was way better than A Flock of Seagulls or Echo and the Bunnymen in my honest opinion, but the only song I ever remember hearing was Major Tom. This entire CD is excellent from start to finish, not only because Schilling writes such infectious melodies, but also because every song is put together extremely well. Pay close attention to the musicianship, all the performers are very talented. I'm not sure how many instruments Schilling himself plays, or which ones he plays, but he is a very gifted songwriter, and quite a charismatic front man. It's unfortunate that Schilling will go down as another Kraftwerk, Alphaville or And One, having a small cult following when so many more should have been exposed to his wonderful music.
EXCELLENT!.......2005-11-27
I love this album!
I'm a huge fan of Peter Schilling and I was very happy to have ordered this CD because I have played it so much because it's such a great CD! I love the songs from start to finish and I hope to buy his 1999 German greatest hits album to go along w/ this one!
Thank you Mr. Schilling for making such great music!
One of the Greatest Dance Club songs of all time.......2005-11-19
I began as a DJ in the 80's for my fraternity. I remember the first time that I heard A Different Story by Peter Schilling. I purchased the 12" dance remix and it became one of my dance mainstays at every event. People loved it and I loved seeing their reaction to the music. The lyrics and melody/beat are outstanding. Although I like Major Tom, I believe A Different Story is the best on the album. The rest of the songs are very good. The album is a great mix of different music. It is one of those cds that you will listen to in its entirety. I am just sorry that Peter didn't record more music.

Excellent sample.......2005-10-25
This two disc set is a good sampler of Beethoven; I had forgotten how inspiring his work could be. This set has motivated me to order all three of the Deutch Grammaphone two disc which together include all 9 of Beethoven's symphonies.
Some of the Best.......2005-09-11
Some of these songs are the best that I've heard. I also enjoy the fact that this album provides the ENTIRE movement or selection, unlike some of the other albums that I've heard that only play for a little bit of the song. One example is Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major Second Movement, this movement is one of my favorites to begin with and hearing it so smoothly and masterfully recorded made my heart sing the first time I heard this all the way to end (the other recordings usually stop after the major key shift after the first theme). Also the Egmont Overture is one of the best full versions that I've had the pleasure of enjoying performed this well. The Moonlight Sonata First Movement I found to be nice, but there are better versions out there. For those people just looking for a nice collection of Beethoven songs that are well recorded and well performed, I stronly suggest that you purchase this album.
Storms.......2005-03-09
Classical music compilations are extremely difficult to review. You are always fighting with someone else's opinion of what is "Best of" material. And why should we buy selections when we could buy the entire pieces and hear them played as the composers intended?
A quick answer would be simple: we simply cannot afford to purchase every single piece by every single composer we love. And if the buyer is familiar with the music, he or she would perhaps only want the famous selections everyone knows. In my case, I am particularly picky with recordings and don't have the time to meddle with libraries or going to stores that offer listening stations. Recordings vary greatly and so does playing ability. So why did I go with Essential Beethoven?
It is released with Decca, one of the finest classical music companies out there. You are guaranteed no gimmick or inexpensively recorded tracks on this compilation. Essential B. also has a wider selection than other compilations I looked at. For once, there isn't a movement to be found from the Fifth Symphony. If that's all you want to buy, look elsewhere. Essential B. has pieces I was not familiar with, so here I am listening to it.
Regrettably, there are three distinct issues with this recording, and I want to get them out of the way. 1. Für Elise is atrociously boring to listen to. As a pianist, it is fun to play and almost required learning for the beginner. It should've been dropped. 2. Piano Concerto No. 5 is missing the third movement. It is common to drop the first movement here, but the second and third movements are programmatically tied, providing some of the most emotionally charged music ever put down on lined paper. Also, this rendition of the concerto is less than inspiring and I regret that it is the famous Ashkenazy playing this version. There is almost no life in the playing. 3. The remastering could've been better. The listener will enjoy the loud and boisterous pieces, but the quieter parts, and even the soft piano solos, will have him straining his ears to the point of exasperation. Because of this, I recommend listening on headphones or in a place where you can turn the volume up a little more than usual.
That aside, the rest of the tracks are well recorded, extremely well played, and varied enough to quench even the most learned ears. Decca has included pieces conducted by Sir Georg Solti, one of the greatest conducters in my opinion. (Another "collection" solely conducted by Solti is the "Immortal Beloved" soundtrack.) The orchestral pieces are lush and the range is dynamic. (A little too dynamic, like I stated above, in some areas.) The inclusion of movement IV from Symphony no. 8 pleases me, as I feel this is the least appreciated symphony, overshadowed by Symphony no. 9
The piano pieces are some of the best renditions I've heard. I own all of Ashkenazy's sonatas, so it was nice to hear a movement from "The Tempest" played by Stephen Kovacevich, who plays with fierce determination. Selections from B's piano concertos are fantastic and have prompted me to delve further into listening to more concertos from him. The Rondo from Piano Concerto No. 2, played by Radu Lupu, is one of the most upbeat and wonderfully played pieces here.
To round things off nicely is a movement from the Violin Sonata No. 5, played by the one and only Itzhak Perlman! The piano is caressed by Mr. Ashkenazy himself, and he does so lovingly. You will also find pieces from a string quartet, a violin Romance (and orchestra), and one overture: the "Egmont." I'm not a huge fan of this rendition either, but that's probably because I've heard the Egmont a thousand times.
A huge bonus with this collection are the three choral selections at the end, two of which are from "Fidelio," an opera I've yet to hear in its entirety. The Prisoners' Chorus is beautiful. The introduction sounds very much like a major contribution to Charles Ives's 1906 piece "The Unanswered Question." The compilation ends with Symphony No. 9's finale, but unfortunately, it is a horribly edited excerpt, and mixed extremely hot. I have to turn my volume down everytime this comes on.
I would like to make a little note about the art design, however. Credit here is given to Mark Millington, who did a fine job blending black & white photos of storm clouds, an inspiring sculpture, and blackletter-styled fonts. The CDs themselves are a contrasting bright orange. As a sucker for marketing, I would've plunked money down for this compilation just for the art!
Wonderful selections.......2003-11-08
My kids and I have really enjoyed this CD. This is a great collection of music with high quality performances.
Great intro to Beethoven.......2003-04-05
Great intro to beethoven. There are many great performances by Ashkenazy, Academy of Saint Martin in the fields, Concertgetbouw Orchestra and many other exceptional artists. I would recommend this disc as it contains the masterpieces of beethoven, even though not all of them.

I Love It.......2007-06-23
I just wanted to tell everyone that I love this double disc. Louie Vega is truly House and this is a wonderful example of what the music is all about. New tunes, classics, and artwork are fused together in a package that puts the listener in an art gallery/club setting. I'll come back and talk about this great collection a little more later. I just had to say something about it after my first listen.
Some DJs think they know house music, and then there are those who actually do........2007-06-14
Louie Vega (Nuyorican Soul and Elements of Life) of super DJ group "Masters at Work" is the latter. Truly a master of the craft who proves here that he is deserving of that title "Master at Work". A double CD, 27 track non-stop mix of sexy, soulful, rhythmic harmonious grooves, and tropical beats. I just love it when I pick up an album in which a majority of the songs are above par.
The album "Lust, Art & Soul" is kind of a joint venture between Louie Vega and artist/photographer Jonas Larsson ("Off The Record") in which music and graphic art are fused and play off each other in an artistic image. "Lust recognizes that graphic art and music full of soul can feed off each other, satisfying the eye and the mind."
Even though the CD case is lacking a little in the department of photographs (let alone erotic ones), the music is sexy and erotic enough to fulfill Larsson's theme through sound. I think that this work hits its target and accomplishes what was trying to be done and conveyed.
While some tracks are very housey or have a Latin vibe to them, others sound very retro electric 80's like. But I am not complaining at all, on the contrary I am just pointing out the diversity that can be found from song to song. Thumbs up to Louie for compiling a great album of sexy beats!

The relentless, driving drums and thunderous bass of the opening title track are the magic components that make it the best song Iggy Pop ever recorded without the Stooges. They're also why this is Iggy's best solo album--which also includes the ominously upbeat "The Passenger," with its hilariously ennui-filled, sing-along chorus ("La la la la la la la la la..."). As with Pop's first solo album, The Idiot, David Bowie has his hands all over the proceedings (if not somewhere else as well) as the producer, songwriter, and general overseer of Iggy the popstar. The record reached 28 on the U.K. charts. Of course, as the jagged, dark guitars on "Sixteen" and "Neighborhood Threat" make clear, Iggy's version of pop music is anything but conventional, and anything but bland. "Some Weird Sin" ("That's what I want...") could have been Iggy's theme song in 1977, heavy with innuendo and a dangerous joie de vivre. --Percy Keegan

Vintage Iggy.......2007-05-14
Great starter album for someone's who's just getting into Iggy.
Its got some classics (lust for life, Passenger) and also some lesser-knowns that are very good (sixteen, some wierd sin) also. Iggy is a legend.
iggy isn't quite the neighborhood threat of old here, but completely rocking nonetheless.......2007-04-01
"Lust for Life," which was released the same year as "The Idiot" should have been even more successful than that record, which was Iggy's first taste of commercial success. This album brings back the hard-rocking, swaggering tendencies that Iggy parlayed with the Stooges, although while the music isn't quite as chaotic, it's still a damned good record. The Jim Morrison influence also seeps through a lot on "Lust for Life." Tracks like "The Passenger," which Iggy wrote based on a Jim Morrison poem articulates the vision of searching that many of Iggy's best tunes are built on. The rest of the tracks rock out and make you think, as well. "Success" is about as ad-libbed sounding as an Iggy Pop song could be, but it's still a great piece of work, as is the title track, "Sweet 16" and the others. It's good that "Lust for Life" is finally getting the audience that it deserved so many years ago. Check this record out, you won't be disappointed.
Classic Rock Review.......2007-03-09
This is an excellent album and I recommend it to any fans of the old time rock and roll.
This is a great album.......2006-10-05
I own 3 iggy albums and this is my favorite. i only skip "turn blue" and occasionally "neighborhood threat". the rest is quality. you can really hear the david bowie influence and if you're a fan of his stuff then id recommend this. ive listened to iggy's work with the stooges and this is good in a different way. if you're looking for '70's balls-out rock n roll (loud guitars, loud vocals, etc) then get an iggy w/ stooges album but if you want an awesome pop record that still has an edge to it i'd recommend this. in my mind, this album has the same kind of rock n roll bluesy sound and feel as zeppelin's "physical graffiti" and its a really sick record to throw on when you're lounging around your room or pretty much whenever. on an entirely unrelated note, ive heard the title track on a number of commercials and although this would normally irritate me b/c id always associate royal carribean with iggy, i cant blame the guy for getting some extra cash (you know you'd do it too).
Fun. Crazy. Perfect. Iggy.......2006-05-17
Iggy Pop's Lust for Life came to my attention obviously with the title track. What a way to start an album. So far all the contact i've made with Iggy's music is through The Stooges who are excellent as well. Listening to this 70's classic has inspired me to hear more and more from good Iggy. I recommend this item to any person who enjoys a complete, different, irreverent, frantic album. Rock on, Iggy!

lost in phaze.......2006-05-23
isn't batman and robin a rubbish movie? no really, doesn't it just feel like one long explosion?? maybe it was at this stage that i started to move away from mainstream cinema (bear with me here, i'm going somewhere with this). anyway, the only thing i can remember from it was the feeling that i had to pick up the soundtrack just to get my hands on underworld's 10 minute techno slab 'moaner'. also there (buried on the movie, i think, under the sound of revving motorbike engines) is a track by soul coughing called 'the bug'. my first introduction, enough to get me hooked.
three albums later and they chose to call it a day. now i have those albums and picked this up mainly for 'unmarked helicopters', my decision. best ofs are a funny thing though, and it sometimes feels that releasing one after three albums is a rip off. what separates this one from a run-of-the-mill 'hits' effort is the tracks chosen for it, since in the main i think they've done an excellent job. album by album then...
debut 'ruby vroom' is represented well, though i would have ditched 'janine' and 'true dreams' in favour of 'supra genius' and 'uh zoom zip' (doughty almost rapping at one stage). for those of you who question his prowess as a lyricist (and i doubt anyone reading this does), witness the bile he injects into 'screenwriter's blues'. as caustic a monument to the lure of stardom as you could wish for - you will NEVER hear the word "fly" pronounced with more venom
'irrestistable bliss' is probably my fave sc album. was amazed and gratified by the presence of 'super bonbon' and 'soundtrack to mary', tracks which are almost too good for a best of. would have swapped 'the idiot kings' for 'how many cans?', if only to hear mr doughty sing "fire".
'el oso'. heresy perhaps, but i never rated 'circles' (the liner notes would suggest it was a throwaway 'hit' to get the record company off their backs) - swap for the haunting 'incumbent'. good to see the presence of 'rolling' and '$300' (see comments on 'super bonbon' above), and thank god too for the absence of 'so far...'. i mean its got an acoustic guitar in it, which makes it ideal 'best of' material, right?
so there you have it. call it almost or nearly (those words are probably a microcosm of the band's career) the perfect best of. also could have done without a completely superfluous remix, though good to hear the live version of 'casiotone nation'. a poor substitute for being there perhaps, but them's the breaks.
Soul Coughing still rocking!.......2006-03-24
Bought it for 4 songs for a video. Worked out great!.
Well Kept Secret.......2005-11-13
Buy this CD as an introduction to a well kept secret in the music world. The music is very mature, creative, and never boring. The lyrics thought provoking, the music hypnotic at times. Great rhythems and bass lines. One can;t help but make some comparisons the Dave Matthews Band, mostly their non radio material.
Excellent band, but for newcomers only.......2004-04-02
As an introduction to an excellent, highly underrated band, this album is not half-bad. Sure, it's missing a lot of essential songs ("Soft Serve", "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago", "I Miss The Girl", etc.) but short of downloading it's the most comprehensive SC collection you'll find on the market. But I personally would recommend probably the most commercially successful album of theirs to start off with, Irrestible Bliss. That album will be enough to indicate whether you like this band or not.
For fans of the group - you're not really missing much if you don't pick up the album. There's some nice liner notes, a remix of "Super Bon Bon" and a live "Casiotone Nation", but nothing else that makes it worth purchasing. It would have been made more appealing if they gathered the band's soundtrack contributions and added a bonus disc of B sides if they were available (like they did with the Smashing Pumpkins best-of album).
In summary: Not a bad place to start if you want to check out one of the most innovative bands of the '90s, but few selling points for members of the Five Percent Nation.
discover some brilliantly fractured pop.......2004-03-26
Few bands are as criminally overlooked as Soul Coughing, but in their short career they managed to craft some brilliantly fractured pop that went sadly unnoticed by mainstream listeners. Paving the way for like-minded bands like Cake and the Bloodhound Gang, Soul Coughing was the beat poetry antidote to the heavy-handed grunge that was clogging the airwaves when they first arrived in 1994. The six tracks from their first album are some of the best songs in the band's canon, showing what an impressive impact they made with a simple formula. Samples from old 78s, Warner Bros. cartoons, and answering machines created a moody backdrop for the jazzy rhythm section and M. Doughty's cigarette-scarred croon, resulting in charming gems like "True Dreams of Wichita." Featuring their biggest single ("Super Bon Bon"), the tracks from Irresistible Bliss are marked by a maturity in their songwriting and much broader soundscapes crafted by the band. The beautiful "Idiot Kings" receives its much-deserved place among the more popular tracks, although leaving off "Soft Serve" is ridiculous when a useless B-side like the Propellerheads' remix of "Super Bon Bon" makes the cut. The very best tracks from their final release, El Oso, are represented in possibly the best track picks on the whole album. Sonically experimental and bordering on electronica at times, these songs show a maturity that was sadly cut short by the demise of the band. A few key tracks are missing ("Is Chicago Not Chicago" is inexplicably left off) and the B-sides are mostly filler (with the exception of the gorgeous "Unmarked Helicopters"), making for a few complaints from longtime fans. http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ But to anyone looking to discover the sound of Soul Coughing, there is no better source than Lust in Phaze, an album that manages to capture the band's hipster charm and cool soundscapes while also featuring the variety of material they were capable of.

Jesse Sykes is hard to pin down--and that's a good thing indeed. She overlaps with current trends, but is completely her own artist. There are elements of alt-country, psych-folk, and singer-songwriter-troubadour, but also others that add alluring breadth to her sound, most notably in the band's penchant for drawing upon the best aspects of Haight-Ashbury ballroom sonics. "How Will We Know" swirls and builds with guitar tones that evoke John Cippolina (Quicksilver Messenger Service) and Barry Melton (Country Joe & the Fish). Sykes has taken those sounds (which were often the best part of the era's rather feeble cowboy machismo) and added finesse, poetics, and a woman's vantage point. Her lyrics are rife with cold winds and loneliness, but never without hope, even if that element is handled by the warm glow of the music. The band is a sympathetically balanced entity with supple power and grace. They move between loud and soft without the now cliched extreme dramatics originally pioneered by the Pixies--another example of Sykes eschewing trends and forging her own path. --David Greenberger

Unpredictable consistency.......2007-06-27
I'm a recent convert via "Oh my Girl" and latterly "Reckless Burning". This was not a disappointment - the great voice, great lyrics, great guitar and great MOODINESS are still there but they have matured and moved on - the arrangements are (largely) simpler and subtler. I haven't listened to it enough yet for any song to get inside me like "Dreaming Dead" or "Reckless Burning" but I have no doubt they will.
An enjoyable album that has a lot to offer........2007-05-20
I've never heard anything from Jesse Sykes before this release, but I have to say that I am pretty impressed. Sometimes it sounds like upbeat pop, other times like Pink Floyd, and maybe even some folk, but it almost always manages to hold on the the dark atmosphere, and Jesse Sykes's raspy voice only adds to the mood.
I'd say this is a good place to go if you're looking for something different and fresh. It doesn't do anything too crazy, so it should be fairly accessible to most people. Even mainstream music listeners should find something to like in this album.
Funeral dredge for the brain dead.......2007-05-19
Some one recommended it to me (I'm a DJ) What a waste of talent. the disk don't even make a good coaster. if your this depressed you should seek help rather than try to sell it and spread depression around like a sickness. If you want to get depressed turn on the news, at least it's free.

good shot.......2007-03-07
Let me start by saying that I think Jesse Sykes has one of the most fascinating voices around (think a middle-aged Marianne Faithfull), and that I loved her album "Oh My Girl". But I have to say that the energy from that record is painfully lacking here. The songs are good, in some cases outstanding, but they often fade into boring, forgetable vamps that all blend together to make one sluggish piece of music by the end. I whole-heartedly recomend her live show; in it she shows that she can in fact sing the ballads...but she can do a little western boogie just as good.
Jesse Sykes Haunts Again........2007-02-28
The breathy, masculine voice of Jesse Sykes has a way of making my hair stand on end. This album in particular has a spooky tone which haunts and intruiges me. This band has a fairly unique way of merging country "Americana" with a folk-pop accessibilty. The songs are dark, and yet you find yourself tapping your feet. "I Like the Sound", one of the catchier cuts from this album, reminds me of the best elements of the Mamas and the Papas, while he haunting sounds of "Spectral Beings" brngs to mind coming down with Pink Floyd. "How Will We Know?" is reminiscent of (of all things) the Grateful Dead. For full effect, I recommend you experience this album on a Sunday morning, coming down. Sometimes crisp and desolate, sometimes tender and dreamy, this album certainly satisfies the tastes of this discerning music lover.

FAVORITE WALTZES .......2007-05-12
I ENJOY THE CLASSICS AND IF YOU DO, OR JUST BEGINNING TO LISTEN, THE OLD MASTERS ARE GREAT. TO ENJOY THIS MUSIC ONE MUST DEVOID YOUR MIND OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. THEN LISTEN TO THE INSTRUMENTS AND PLACE YOURSELF THERE. IT WILL TAKE YOU AWAY TO A PEACEFUL PLACE.
Dream Away.......2007-02-16
Nice relaxing music with a good sound and orchestra containing an assortment of famous waltzes.
What a wonderful CD!!!.......2006-10-24
Like the last review, I am not sure what the first person was thinking when they gave this CD only 1!!! star. I just received this and sitting here with tears in my eyes. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I have been looking for specifically the "Skater's Waltz" for some time now and finally found it!! I can't believe that anyone who listens to this Wonderful CD could give it anything less than 5 stars! I purchased one for my mom for Christmas and one for myself.
I had to add to this because I just purchased my third CD of this!! I have already given away two as gifts. This is so delightful and you really listen on a headset in a quiet room. You will be swept away by the beauty of these waltzes!!!
Wonderful Waltzes.......2005-05-04
I don't know what the previous reviewer is talking about (maybe he did spend too much of his money on cheap beer), but this is a wonderful CD of Waltzes. The original EMI Seraphim series featured some of the greatest recordings of the golden age of stereo at absurdly low prices. The titles that are still readily available like this one, for many are out-of-print and fetching prices ten times their original price, are among the best values in the history of classical music. This CD in particular features Felix Slatkin and Milos Rosza both leading the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra in memorable renditions of Strauss Family, Waldteufel and Ivanovici classics. All the nuggets are here -- The Blue Danube, Emporer, Skaters and Der Rosenkavalier Waltzes -- in legendary performances. Don't be fooled, this is a great buy!
[poor quality].......2003-02-25
Take your $... and spend it on some cheap beer instead of this CD, You will enjoy it more. However, If you want to hear what "Quality High Fidelity" sounded like on a very low grade record player in the late 1950's, go ahead and buy this CD. It sounds as if it was recorded from a neighbor's 78 rpm player using an inexpensive microphone held up to the speaker.
Needless to say, I was very disappointed in it's quality. I actually paid more than the current asking price for the CD expecting much more. Yes, I am a fool.

Mill. Classical review.......2007-05-13
This is a great set of recordings for the money, the only problem was I've had to clean some of the CD's before they played correctly.
classical music for the unitiated.......2007-04-01
This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.
Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30
Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.
I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.
It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!
Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium [20 CD Set]
A very helpful collection.......2007-03-24
I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.
Excellent!.......2007-03-08
A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.

Customer Reviews:
Ever-reigning Queen of Sopranos.......2007-05-28
Listening through these two discs, one thought kept leaping up to mind: will ever there be another soprano as versatile and accomplished as Lucia Popp? Died in 1994 at the early age of 54, the operatic world hadn't really mourned her enough.
People are still lingering on Maria Callas, the 'star' soprano with all her glamour and legendary life could offer.
Real listeners, however, could not give up the memory of Lucia Popp's terrific artistry and almost supernatural voice.
Her Rusalka, her Solveig, her Susanna, Zerlina, Despina in the da Ponte/Mozart trio, her terrific Queen of the Night (unsurpassed by ANY subsequent sopranos up till now), and ALSO her Pamina in the same opera. In any language you ask her to sing, and she excelled. I marvel at the Letter Scene in Eugene Onegin - only if Lucia had the chance to perform the whole opera during her short life! The joy, the expectation, the emotional tribulations, so vividly captured in girlish and pure timbre. No one will ever beat her; not even Fleming and Netrebko.
"Weird and wonderful" - that's what Elisabeth Schwarzkopf said of Lucia Popp's singing. We today would modify it to 'wonderful and unsurpassable'.
This 2-CD set is an absolute must have, even if you have never heard of Lucia Popp before.
Lucia Popp.......2006-01-12
This is a wonderful album showcasing the very best of Lucia Popp (as the title suggests). Her voice was absolutely beautiful. She could sing the slavic languages like no one else. Her version of Dvorak's Song to the Moon is unbeatable. I dare anyone to find a better performance! Also, the song from Die Zauberflute -Ah Ich fuls (sp?) is outstanding. I've yet to hear a better version. Her diction was fantastic and while she wasn't the highest soprano around - she knew what worked for her voice. This is album is a keeper!
Lucy: The Reigning Queen of Opera.......2004-07-12
Lucia Popp is one of the best sopranos to ever grace the operatic/classical voice stage. This CD compilation shows her progression through lyric Handel to lyric and dramatic Mozart (her Der Holle Rache from Magic Flute is unrivaled) to tender art song and operetta literature. The first disc also showcases her adeptness with 20th Century literature as well as the ability to step out of the traditional four languages of opera. Any avid music fan MUST have this CD compilation.

Anyone conscious during the early '90s is probably already familiar with anti-anthems like "Rough Sex," "Let's Get High," and "I Must Increase My Bust," Lords of Acid singles that combined the rough sounds of '80s Belgian new beat with England's emerging rave scene and added enough nasty thoughts to make Larry Flynt blush scarlet. But for those who were left out, here's a synopsis: Lust is sleaze techno at its best. The lyrics and music extol the virtues of decadence and excess to the apocalyptic soundtrack of pop rave music. This album is best experienced if you forget about the intellectual pretensions of proper techno and the field-of-daisies optimism of garage, since there's nothing but pure, unadulterated, unabashedly adolescent id in this house. --Matthew Corwine

I Love This CD!.......2006-02-24
Ok, so I was in High School when this came out... and I LOVED it. I lost the tape somewhere along the way and always wondered in the back of my mind "What the heck is the name of that group that sings about sex"? Thank goodness for the browse styles option here on Amazon because it helped me find this album again.
This is a must have! Not one song on here is boring or corny. Next to Rob Zombie, this stuff will most certainly spice up your day. :)
Some of the greatest f__k music ever.......2005-03-22
This album has served as a soundtrack for some of the HOTTEST sex I have EVER had. If you're looking for a superb mood setter for your next group sex orgy this is a must-play. Though it came out many years ago, it still pumps out lusty, sexy, nasty groovy-ness without fail. Pick this up and let it work its power on you and yours
Lust... A Very Sexual CD.......2005-03-18
Well though the sexual noises seem very noticeably fake indeed this CD is pretty good... I think it's mainly made for people who are busy getting busy most of the time and the CD would work to play while doing so... since it sings about sex most of the time.... song 10 is my personal favorite....
If you own genitals, own this album.......2004-08-15
This album has a very simple message..(...) Exactly what we want to listen to when we're feeling sleazy and don't want to be bothered with lyrics that require a trace of deep thought. This album is just the audio equivelent to good adult fun. It's nothing more than fun, sleazy dance music with tongue-in-cheek lyrics and no trace of intellectual stimulation. Isn't that what we want most of the time whether we admit it or not? It's not music for concentration on work or philosophy or anything else where I have to resort to using my brain. No, this is something you listen to when you're in a car full of girls where you can exchange winks and/or gestures. This is an album for our 'mammalian' side. By 'mammalian' I don't mean Disney's lion king, I mean nature show's 'lions getting it on in the field'. Hey, we may be humans, but we need to loosten up a bit when it comes to our sexuality. Rigermortis should not be the only way to talk about getting stiff without blushing.
All Time Greatest Couples CD.......2004-02-28
without a doubt this is the HOTTEST couples CD EVER. Hands down, no question.
