Label Comments
As griots use the spoken word to convey messages of hope and truth(s), this series with its original music score and theatre like presentation complement the words scribed by the author Maurice Bryan.

The audiotheatre series is melodic, contemporary and historically relevant to the lives of African people worldwide. As in the book, it recites the story of the rastafari movement, adding additional historical information along the way this includes Nyabingi songs passed down by the ancestors, theatrical skits, drumming and acappela chants. The musical composition composed and arranged by ras kagiso mpala introduces the listener to a pan-African ensemble of thunderous beats inspired from Jamaica and Ethiopia.

This work is profound, necessary and contemporary. The rise of Rastafari is necessary listening for those wishing a greater understanding of present African-centered realities.

Over the past 60 years, a distinctive philosophy of African redemption developed in the Caribbean. It has since had a significant impact on the minds of African people everywhere. Its influence on inner attitudes, and outward visible symbols, can be seen among young Africans in the diaspora, and on the African continent itself. It has also made its presence felt in popular styles and cultures of the entire planet. This movement, which has no leaders or spokespersons, had its origins in the history of Jamaica, but the fact that it has evolved to become an inspiration for so many millions around the world is an indication of the universal nature of the beliefs and range of ideas which have gone into its development. This audio book is a brief attempt to trace the history of some of the elements which have contributed to the development of the worldwide movement of African redemption that is commonly known as RASTAFARI.
