Customer Reviews:
Not the best........2005-03-02
I bought this CD with high hopes. I absolutely loved the first one, the one recorded live. This one was a disappointment though. The guys songs are good and their voices are in good form but it was missing something...feeling, I guess. The live concert version can make me cry and laugh it's so sung with feeling, but this is just singing. I just felt it lacked feeling. I guess that's why I was disappointed with it.
What a magnificent Heritage.......2005-01-22
I highly recommend this album to all fans of Irish music. This is the last album with Ronan as a memember and it is one of their best. Ronan's "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen" is wonderful, so too is Finbarr's "South of the Border". The theme from the Titanic "My Heart Will Go On" is the best version since Celine Dione's. My favorite track is Anthony's "The West's Awake" . One point to note is that this group is one of the few out there who can perform live with an equally good recorded sound. Having listened to them at Meadowbrook NH the night of Ronan's farewell I can assure you that live or recorded they have a fantastic sound. I highly recommend this CD to all fans of Irish music.

A Review .......2004-10-30
I have never really been a fan of Traditional Irish Music and had never even HEARD of the Irish Tenors....That is until a friend of mine introduced me to the recording of "Live In Belfast" Instantly, I was hooked. I have become addicted to a lot of these songs. Especially the goofier ones they sing. like "Phil the Fluther" and "Courtin in the Kitchen" When Heritage was released I was estatic....As I had loved all the songs they had released before. Even though they recycled some of their songs. I loved the way they re recorded "Red Is The Rose" with Finbar in place of John and also "Fields Of Athenry" I Found this version to be better than the other one. I found it really bizare that they would sing "My Heart Will Go On" as that is not an Irish Song...Ireland was where the Titanic sank. but still. I really enjoyed listening to it. "South of the Boarder" and "Golden Jubilee" along with "Little Brigid Flynn" were quite entertainingly cute. I really enjoyed Anthony's "The West's Awake" and "The Parting Glass" and "The Harp That Once Through Tara's Halls" I would, too also love to see Anthony put out a solo album.
Heritage, The Irish Tenors.......2004-09-30
This is another delightful effort by Anthony, Finbar and Ronan.
My favorite songs were "Off to Philadephia" (Anthony) and "My Heart Will Go On" (Finbar). I didn't even mind the repetition of some songs heard on past CDs - but wondered about it, until I learned of the departure of Ronan Tynan. I am curious to see the kind of arrangements they have included on their new CD, due to come out later this year, which they made upon the return of John McDermott. John is a Canadian of Celtic descent, whose voice, though pleasant in a folksy way, does not seem to blend as well with Anthony and Finbar as did Ronan's trained vocals. I would be very pleased to see Anthony make a solo CD, including such ballads as (my all-time favorite) Bantry Bay and some of the wonderfully playful Irish ditties he sometimes performs at his solo concerts.
Tattered Tenors.......2004-08-20
When the Irish Tenors burst upon the public scene not too many years ago, they were heralded as a refreshing change in the sea of musical mediocrity. The original trio of McDermott, Kearns and Tynan thrilled us with their exuberance and vocal virtuosity and frankly, I miss that. (Please note: since I originally wrote this review the threesome has changed to McDermott, Kearns and Wright with Tynan having left the group).
As one of their latest efforts, "Heritage" is an "okay" album, but it certainly lacks the freshness and fun of the Irish Tenors' earlier efforts. Of course, there are notable exceptions such as Kearns' roguish "Off to Philadelphia", the sprightly "Golden Jubilee" and the beautiful "The West's Awake" solo by Kearns. Wright's "Little Brigid Flynn" is downright fun but his "South of the Border" is oddly out of place. With too many recycled songs and a little too little Anthony Kearns, I personally found "Heritage" to be the weakest effort in the generally stellar Irish Tenors' discography.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful live, wonderful later.......1999-07-24
Many years ago I saw the Boys of the Lough live with my father. We'd never before bought recordings at a performance and felt guilty purchasing this and another (The Fair Hills of Ireland). But, boy, were they worth it. The Boys of the Lough can be alternately toe-tapping and haunting, always technically impressive, and most of all, charming. These songs linger.
A True Standout.......1999-06-04
A wonderful collection of Celtic music that appears to have a greater depth than many of its counterparts. The title song is especially, and hauntingly, beautiful.

Customer Reviews:
What ??.......2006-12-10
The idiot from Virginia thought it a bit strange that an American black man would give the communists a chance. Looking back from modern perspective is easier than what he had to go on in the thirtes. Gee, I wonder why a black man would do that after all that southern hospitality, segregation, and steady work you gave the "black folk". Not to mention all those nighttime campfires you had going in their honor.
While I might be from New York I certainly would not be called a bleeding heart liberal but I can certainly understand why the poor soul was looking elsewhere. You are either ignorant of history and its influences on people or you are a totally unsympathetic jackass!!
Nice Voice, but not a nice person...(read on, pls.).......2006-01-07
Paul Robeson, who was brainwashed into
beleiving Communist rhetoric (which is
strange as hell for an Amer-I-can black
man). A good singing voice but all cover
songs! Come on, Paul!
A let down.......2004-09-24
I own several Robeson recordings and purchased this one with high hopes as it has a great selection of tracks. Unfortunately given the excellent recording quality of "Songs for Free Men" and "The Paul Robeson Oddyssey", the remasters from what I assume are 78's and possibly radio are a let down and mar what could have been an excellent album.
The definitive Paul Robeson compilation.......2003-09-19
This 2 CD set of Paul Robeson is the definitive collection providing a decent overview of his work in 50 tracks all wonderfully restored from 78s as usual for ASV, with spirituals, show tunes, Shakespeare-like readings, and more done with a trademark bass voice and orchestration that backs up Paul perfectly and he would later be one of the first civil rights activists. The first disc is a reissue of the single disc "Ol' Man River-His 25 Greatest" on ASV containing "Ol' Man River," "Mighty Like a Rose," "Joshua Fit De Battle Ob Jericho," "Carry Me Back To Green Pastures," "Lazy Bones," and many more classics which is also available here at Amazon for those who only want a single disc of Paul's work and the 2nd disc contains 25 more classics including "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen," "The Old Folks At Home," "My Old Kentucky Home," "Wagon Wheels," "Git On Board, Little Children," and many more. In other words, all 50 of these tracks are essential to any early pop, folk, gospel, blues, etc. music fan and this is the set to introduce yourself to his work in a convenient 2 CD package with the usual great liner notes and details on the original 78s ASV provides with each CD released in their Living Era series.

Customer Reviews:
5 stars........2004-07-26
This really should be a 5-star rating, except those other reviewers are right - the quality is not great. But that's not the point! The music is really great, and I love it. They have funny songs, sad songs, jumpy songs and slow songs. The voices are good, the melodies are good, the lyrics are good. It's true there are 28 songs yet the running time is not long, as all the songs are short, but hasn't anyone heard the phrase 'short and sweet'? If you don't want to risk the bad qualaty and sound of this album, fine, don't get it, but I really recommend it for its music.
This CD needs sub-titles the audio is so bad.......2003-01-25
I grew up on Clancy Brothers LPs and very much looked forward to this CD when I saw it in the store. BIG Mistake ! When I first played it I thought the CD player was broken. then I thought I was going deaf then I realized that the audio on here can only be heard with equipment rented from the CSI team.
As to the song selection I would say that some the best of the Clancys are here but many of the songs I never heard of before and am not sure how they got in a favorites album.
Too much is too little.......2002-02-18
I am disappointed in this CD from one of my favorite groups. The over all quality of the product is poor. The volume goes up and down without warning. There are too many songs and they are too short.I own other Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem CDs. This is one I can not recommend.Spend your money on something else.
a waste of time and money.......2001-03-21
very disapointing some tracts are loud others barely audible nearly makes me give up on clancy brothers i am going to look for dublin ramblers and irish rovers
Grossly Disappointing.......2001-03-10
This CD includes some of the best traditional titles from the Clancey Brothers. Unfortunately, the audio quality of the recording is so poor that some of the tracks are unintelligable. It sounds as though some tracks were third or fourth generation copies from audio tape, some were pireted by somebody with a concert ticket and a cassette recorder, and some were surreptitiously recorded in Mother Clancey's parlor late one St. Patrick's Day night. If you are a true fan, you probably have all these songs in better form; if you're a novice, this is NOT going to be a cornerstone of your collection. Pass it by!
