You can get many more songs for not much more money by looking at other collections, or "Best of" CDs. I see these in the store and am always amazed that people buy them. Not just for BB King, but for numerous artists.
Dollar for dollar, this is simply the worst way to sample the King.

Pour commencer avec BB.......2006-05-17
Lightweight pop of the sixties and seventies.......2004-03-28
On this album, there are two duets with Serge Gainsbourg. Je t'aime moi non plus was intended for release as a single but it remained in the vaults - I think Brigitte decided she didn't want it released. In any case, Serge then recorded it with Jane Birkin. That version was released as a singe but was quickly banned in France. The singles were shipped across to the UK, where it was banned by the BBC but allowed to go on sale. It sold well, eventually reaching number one on the UK charts - a rare achievement for a record sung in a foreign language. The other duet between Serge and Brigitte is an original song about Bonnie and Clyde.
There is also a duet with Sacha Distel - a cover of Stevie Wonder's You are the sunshine of my life. Like everything else here, it is sung in French. It occurs to me that this is an ideal song for a duet although I've never heard any other duet version of this song. Among the solo recordings, highlights are L'appareil a sous, La Madrague and Harley Davidson. There are liner notes in English - this is a British compilation.
Brigitte's music is not essential, even if you are building a collection of French pop music, but it is worth an occasional listen, especially for Je t'aime moi non plus.

This 20 Track Compilation, Gathers Offerings from Bardot's Musical Career, Between 1963 and 1973. Over These 10 Years Bardot Recorded Several All-time French Favourites Including 'le Soleil De Ma Vie' and One of her Sizzling Duet with Serge Gainsbourg 'je T'aime Moi Non Plus'Customer Reviews:
Buy this CD at once !.......2000-01-03
BRIGITTE BARDOT loved to sing even more than she loved to act: she would spend whole nights in recording studios, then she would rush at dawn to be on time at the movies studios. She wrote in her recent Mémoires that she never felt tired when singing (while she grew tired of acting), and it sure shows when listening to her records.
If you like different kinds of music, you'll love this CD even more: you'll find calypso, twist, pop, mambo, charleston, chanson...
This CD is also great for people who are learning French: BARDOT has such a personal way to pronounce words, detaching them from each other, which makes it very easy to understand the lyrics.
In a sociological and historical way, BRIGITTE BARDOT is what THE 50's and the 60's in France were all about. She is part of our collective memory.
Buy this CD: you can't be disappointed !
Love this CD!.......1999-03-31
Gainsbourg wrote some wonderful songs for her, and they're mostly all here, Harley Davidson, Je T'Aime, L'Appareil a Sous etc. You can hear she's having a lot of fun on these songs.
If you like Bardot, buy it, it's a classic. Great photos too.

Excellent Blues Album.......2007-02-26
I don't write reviews usually but the previous reviewers are entirely misguided and wrong, hence the need for another review. This is NOT a compilation disc- it is not a greatest hits collection, and it is not 70 minutes long. "Blues on Top of Blues" was an ALBUM, and a good one at that. The album is very brassy, as B.B. hired a fellow named Johnny Pate (who also worked with Curtis Mayfield) to help him arrange the songs. There are definite gems here- "Paying the Cost to Be the Boss" is a classic, and "Heartbreaker" and "Raining in My Heart" are good cuts. I don't know why I single them out, because it's pretty good end to end- lots of soul, great singing and playing by B.B., and standard era arrangements. This is a major piece that chronicles an important place in B.B. King's career, and should be treated as such. If you are looking for "The Thrill Is Gone," get a different cd, rather than buying this album and then complaining about its absence because you are too stupid to research your purchase!
"Blues on Top of Blues" came out in 1968 (hence the brevity which the other geniuses noted), but it's still pretty much the same quality as the vinyl, so when they remaster it I'll give that the full 5 stars.

recomendation : buy this, only if you like me, have better 50's
B.B. compilation as well as a post50's one and you only miss Three o' clock blues and When my heart beats like a hammer. otherwise, avoid.
Way too short.......2002-10-02
The songs featured here are early recordings, as one might guess from the rather young-looking picture of BB on the cover. The recording quality sounds a bit dated, but there is plenty of energy in the songs to make up for it. There is a kickin' horn section on some of the songs that don't really typify the blues, but are still delightful.
There are no liner notes, so you have no idea what the chronology of the songs are or who the musicians were, other than the man himself. But it's over before you know it, so don't pay too much for this. I imagine the box set is a little more worth the cost, wouldn't you think?

The sleeve is a little short on personnel details, but the music is top notch. A fine anthology of Levy's bluesy outings with all sorts of collaborators, from the jazz, blues and funk worlds. A great overview of Ron Levy's grooves, and definitely one to get.

Amazon.com essential recording
There are countless B.B. King collections out there, but this is one of the few that really captures the development of his groundbreaking style in the '50s. Why these essential masters from the R.P.M., Modern, and Kent imprints had never been released before on CD is truly a mystery. But why complain now? Here for your pleasure are early (and some original) versions of B.B. signature songs like "Everyday I Have the Blues," "Sweet Little Angel," and "Three O'Clock Blues." On each track, you can hear King crying the blues and executing T-Bone Walker-style solos with the energy and confidence of a young man. The sting of his guitar "Lucille" is made even more powerful due to the early stereophonic sound, and his studio bands pack a primitive wallop as well. --Ken HohmanAmazon.com
If the four-CD King of the Blues box is too big a bite out of your budget, this is a good primer of early B.B. King gems. "You Upset Me Baby," "Sweet Sixteen," "Sweet Little Angel," and "Everyday I Have the Blues" are among his career-founding hits. There's even his rare take on the Elmore James classic "Dust My Broom," reinterpreted sans James's trademark slide guitar licks. The youthful exuberance of King's singing is a joy to hear on all of these 20 tracks. And the influence of T-Bone Walker and swinging jump blues is at its most naked on these sides from the R.P.M., Kent, and Crown labels. --Ted DrozdowskiCustomer Reviews:

That's it... This is a great CD.
When B.B. Was Really Hot..........2003-02-25
Also, on this CD the songs haven't had a horn section over-dubbed onto the tracks. This was the case on some of the compilations that were issued on LP in the '60s. What you have here is the original sound - on the border between smooth and raw - made many years before B.B. decided to become a Pop performer.
By the way, one of the other reviews gives this CD only 1 star. I think the reviewer misunderstood the rating system, since the tone of his review is actually lauditory.

Album Description
This set (this is the first out of seven CDs), would make an ideal introduction to Bartok's piano music, especially if you are still unfamiliar with the bulk of it. These are urbane, honest, eminently intelligible interpretations that will draw the uninitiated into the texts of this extraordinarily rich music. In her exhaustive survey of his complete piano works June de Toth proves herself a smart, solid, and reliable pianist. She offers thoughtful and often eloquent readings that reject both hysteria and the kind of kamikaze approach of so many young piano lions. Its overall sobriety and discipline is such that the music speaks for itself. She fathoms each solo piano work as a kind of apposite gestuary of hemiolas and unnerving hesitations, and as the stuff of musical speech. If Bartok was Hungary's answer to Moussorgsky, nowhere is it more evident than here. Capturing the essentially trochaic inflections of Hungarian speech with the knowing temperament of a native (Ms de Toth is full blood Hungarian) she lays out the keyboard songs with the patrician air of an old storyteller at a family gathering. Whatever one's ideas and taste may be in interpretation of Bartok, her performances are persuasive. Take particular note of her attractive readings of the 14 Bagatelles: these she portrays with a kind of arid simplicity that enhances their now playful, now lonely ethos.Customer Reviews:
This CD is an ideal introduction to Bartok's piano music........1999-04-11
This set (Bartok's Solo Piano Works, Volumes 1, 2 and 3) would make an ideal introduction to Bartok's piano music.
The music speaks for itself, as if Ms de Toth were loathe to run any interference. In the wistful 'Street of Istvand', for example, or in the rugged yet oddly seductive sailor song 'In the Harbor of Nagyvarad', her no-nonsense surefootedness gives ample voice to Bartok's nostalgic melancholia.
Indeed, in these works, part of the 42 Hungarian Folk Songs for Children, she fathoms each as a kind of apposite gestuary of hemiolas and unnerving hesitations, and as the stuff of musical speech.
