Product Description
Poland can be considered like a second home for current neo Progressive music, along with Italy and the Netherlands. QUIDAM is certainly the main and most appreciated act to have emerged from this field, with ABRAXAS and COLLAGE. Note that female singer Emila DERKOWSKA's vocals and charm add a lot to the whole. As the sophisticated pop-rock melodies of "Sny Aniolow" ("Angels' Dream" for the English-sung version, 1998) contrasted with a first eponymous album (Revelation of the year 1996) extremely appreciated for its instrumental developments, the third opus "The Time Beneath The Sky" (2002) orchestrates a new stylistic change, that keeps the characteristical QUIDAM sound. The pastoral flute is pleasant as usual, accompanied by a lyrical and fluid guitar: no doubt about it, the CAMEL spirit is all around ! After the splendid version of DEEP PURPLE's "Child In Time" on "Live In Mexico 1999", this masterpiece allows us to listen to an incredible rendition of LED ZEPPELIN's "No Quarter", without any doubt one of the British musicians' closest attempts to Progressive rock. The rest of the album confirms that we have found the way back to ambitious musics. And that's not without surprise that we discover some tense and intriguing sequences close to... PORCUPINE TREE ! One more trump, for an ever-shining diamond... "SuREvival" (2005) is a testimony of the new line-up of the band, the charming Emila DERKOWSKA leaving the stage in favor of a male singer. "...Bez PolPradu - ...HalfPlugged" (2005) presents several titles from the current album, plus some classics of the band and three cover-versions: "Wish You Were Here" (PINK FLOYD), "Blackbird" (THE BEATLES) et "Nights In White Satin" (THE MOODY BLUES). As exclusive bonus, three video tracks are added, including a rehearsal part. 2006 marks the tenth anniversary of the first self-titled album of QUIDAM. For the occasion, the Musea and Rock Serwis labels got together in order to produce three discs in limited edition, present

If you're feeling jaded at the prospect of the usual holiday fare, Anonymous 4 has a truly sublime musical treat in store with their latest release. The contemporary world has turned Santa Claus into an icon of consumerist mania, but the historical figure from whom he ultimately derives was a uniquely inspiring religious figure to medieval Europeans. Anonymous 4 has culled together music from the liturgy of the hours and other sources originally produced to celebrate the legends associated with the fourth-century St. Nicholas, who was considered the patron of sailors, unmarried women, Russia, and--ironically--merchants. As with their earlier Christmas celebration, On Yoolis Night, the quartet ethereally blends their seamless, unaccompanied vocals in this collection of chants, hymns, and readings recounting the saint's life and miracles on behalf of those in need. In addition to Latin settings, the program includes one of the oldest known English-language hymns ("Sainte nicholaes," by a contemporary of Hildegard) and a number of verse-refrain pieces thought to inspire dancing in church. Most of the musical material involves simple unilinear trails of chant, which the ensemble spins out with their trademark unanimous purity of tone. Elsewhere, as in the spiraling eddies of "Novus presul prodiit," their suave harmonies glint like a sudden shaft of light through stained glass. And it is all captured in a warm, ambient church acoustic that is balm for modern ears. --Thomas MayCustomer Reviews:
Classical heaven.......2007-01-06
Excellent! Grab a book, a cup of coffee and this CD and you will be in
heaven. Perfect harmonies, spiritually uplifting.....I even put this on after a stressful day (I am a teacher) and I melt into a blessed slumber.

Excellent Alternative to 'Good Saint Nick'........2005-11-10
If you are considering one or the other, I find the 'Legends of St. Nicholas' to be the more diverse of the two, as it has chant, polyphony, and even some solo voices. The Hungarian selection seems just a bit too much like all the other material done by Anonymous 4.
To be sure, both are done with a typically exceptional high quality voice and recording technique, so you will not go wrong with either recording.
Both are highly recommended!
dream becomes flesh when i hear them........2001-05-02
Anonymous 4 is Synonymous 4 Eloquence and Style.......2001-01-26
Anonymous 4 has a very eloquent sound and style. Their sound is like a smooth flat rock skipping along on a placid lake, and it carries you along with it. This music has nice harmonies and a clear fully rounded sound. The CD itself contains 69 minutes of music that you can listen to while reading, studying, or whatever.
The music's story is developed around the legend or story of St. Nicholas. The CD comes with a booklet that describes this legend and gives a brief history of how it developed. All the songs are performed in a type of Medieval chant in the Latin language.
This is a very nice CD, sample the songs above and see for yourself how eloquent Anonymous 4 sounds.

Incredible Modern Art Rock.......2006-12-25
Smooth, well-produced and engagingly professional music from start to finish, this album has actually not left my CD player since I first popped it in several days ago. Atmospheric and layered with sound effects, tasteful rock guitar, keyboard and flute; this album is very adventurous yet soothing and melancholy. The warm vocal style of the singer really meshes with the music as well....there is a lot going on here-yet the band pulls it off almost casually, without a weak song or misstep on the entire album. One of the most satisfying releases of this year. Hard to find here in the U.S., but highly recommended nonetheless.
Stunning progressive rock from Poland.......2006-10-19
The new singer is certainly integral to this album's success. Besides doing the vocals, he has also written all lyrics except one song, and his English is excellent. His voice is clean and smooth, with no Polish accent whatsoever, and he sings with tremendous emotion and conviction. The band's driving forces, Zbyszek Florek on keyboards and Maciek Meller on guitars, have chosen to go in a very Porcupine Tree style of progressive rock, mostly noticed in the way the vocal harmonies were arranged and Meller's rhythm guitar work merged into their compositions. There is a very heavy In Absentia influence in the way he balances his riffs with acoustic guitars. Florek's keyboard lines are expressive and experimental. He throws in various sound samples, including jazz, electronic and ambient. I am quite impressed by the bass. It is produced perfectly and has a very full sound to it. Wroblewski's drumming is very subtle, emphasising distant cymbal rhythms and exquisite percussion. Special mention goes to Jacek Zasada, the flutist, whose unique style gives Quidam extra originality. His work is very adventurous, at times evoking King Crimson meets Jethro Tull or even Peter Gabriel themes.
The album begins with an ambient intro filled with footsteps, conjuring up images of someone walking in a smoky corridor, fiddling with a set of keys in front of his door, unlocking it, only to rush to the window to be exposed to a sunny day with birds singing. This is all backed up with tons of sound samples generated by keyboards and it swiftly segues into "Hands Off", easily my personal favourite track. The riff at the very beginning is right up there with Steven Wilson's extraordinarily beautiful work on In Absentia, very heavy and relentless. The song is immediately reduced to a minimalist nature, as acoustic guitars go into the main body of the track, backed by a liberal bass line, heavy Moog keyboards, and terrific vocals. Pushing almost 10 minutes, this may also be one of the heaviest songs in the Quidam discography. The following pieces are more on the slower, somewhat psychedelic spectrum, bringing forth soaring vocal harmonies and innovative rhythm beats. The intro of "Not So Close" is so evocative of Steven Wilson it's interesting how heavily this Polish band has been influenced by him. Great flute melodies meet arpeggiated acoustic guitars on "The Fifth Season", with the second flute solo being highly reminiscent of Ian Anderson. "Queen of Moulin Rouge" stands out for its interesting arrangement, allowing the bass guitar to take the lead of a long-streched instrumental passage packed with intense guitar and keyboard interplay. The longest track "Everything's Ended" embodies traces of Sylvan, Porcupine Tree and newer Marillion, perfected with dense guitar solos, jazzy interludes, Floydian psychedelia, before it reaches its last two minutes that feature a common theme and end exactly as the album had started. Birds sing, ambient keyboard samples return, and then we hear the footsteps which seem to slowly walk out of the room.
This is an excellent release. The production is amazing, as are the packaging of the CD, the booklet, the lyrics, and the songmanship. I can hardly wait for their next album.
