A fan of La 5ª Estacion now!!!.......2007-01-04

I happen to come across this band while walking around a store. They had this DVD playing on a big-screen TV. I just had to have it so I placed the order in Amazon after I got home.

The sound, the lyrics, everything about the band was great. The way the singer performs shows the passion behind it. She wrote the songs and I just have a higher level of respect for those artists that can write and sing.

This version actually sounds better than their original recording for these songs. So, if you have not purchased a CD from La Quinta Estacion, I suggest you skip the original version and buy this. It comes with the DVD of the concert and a few added bonuses (additional videos of a few songs) as well as a CD with two additional songs that are not shown in the live concert.

Excellent Live Preformance.......2005-12-15

The video DVD was most excellent. Showing the band as a group of high spirits and professional dedication. The songs are well preformed and leaves me hoping to see this fine group at one of their live preformances. The videos included in the dual disc package were very nice and worth the extra expense. Still need to get the group's CD "Flores de Alquiler" being that several songs did not make it to "Acustico"

bizarrely beautiful.......2005-08-03

I must agree with the above comments. Having become a bit of a Brazil nut, I keep on discovering more wonderful & "unusual" [at least to Western ears] music from Brazil. Joao is an amazing guitarist, writer & vocalist. The vocal acrobatics of which he is master never take away from the musical content, but rather serve it. His voice will astound & refresh your ears! I own 5 of his recordings & there are no duds! His style is difficult to categorize: gentle ballads, frenzied sambas, African-influenced songs, smooth pop/jazz crosses - no words can really explain his music. You need to hear this guy. He will sneak up on you with each playing. You WILL become hooked on Bosco's sound!

An Unsung Giant.......2004-10-19

Though surely a legend in Brazil, João Bosco is relatively unknown outside the Coconut/Cachaça Land. Which is a shame - because he would be a delight to listen to for all those who love Tom Jobim or João Gilberto but don't have the guts to venture further into the jungle of Brazilian folk-jazz.

True, his style is not an instant hit, and when I first bought a Bosco CD, I was like "Gee... what the hell...", but a few times later, you get hooked, and you know that your musical experience can only be complete with Bosco echoeing in your brain. What this guy does with his voice... kinda hard to believe he's a Homo Sapiens. It's not just a pleasant sound, it's the rhythm acrobatics that is so out of this world. Don't make me try to be more specific. I'm not a critic. Besides, even the best critic would sound silly trying to describe it to someone who hasn't ever heard it.

The greatest strength of this album is "Então o que quereis / Corsário". - one of the most melodious tracks (and least bizarre to the non-initiated).

Titas at their peak, playing with the usual competence and sense of humor. A great acoustic album and a "must-have" for all pop music fans, plus: Portuguese sounds really great even if you can't get a thing!

Titas are the best known (and beloved) group of Brasil. This record is a compilation of previous hits played in front of an enthusiastic audience in Rio de Janeiro. The music is "good vibes" and if you can understand the lyrics you will get a good feeling of the warmth and the sense of humor that is so characteristic of the people of Brasil! Enjoy it. For lovers of music from this country this is a must.

From what I can see Acustico MTV is not the best album ever performed by Titas, but, almost the best.... Anyway it's a good begining for those who want to listen or to know the true titas, with all power of the 80's band that I have saw. Better, there is the Arnaldo Antunes presence, the great....Arnaldo....

Portuguese meets English and Spanish.......1999-05-14

One of the years best CD's out of Brazil.Members of the 80's wave of Brazilian "rock and roll", Titas redefined themselves by adopting a more "soave"approach to their own music. Guests such as Argentina's Fito Paez and Jimmy Cliff as well as Brazilian "icons" such as Marisa Monte,Rita Lee and Marina, gives this CD a mixed flavor that, combined with Titas "fun" music is a pleasure to listen to.

Great joy.......2003-10-31

I first heard Cidade Negra a few months ago in a small cd store in Salvador,Brazil. It was on my second day in Brazil. I was looking for something nice not more just to get to know the Brazilien music better then just from hearing the old songs once in a while in the radio. I heard lots of c.d's(mostly what I do in any country I visit) and then from the first bit I felt that this is far more then what I thought I'll find. Great album with great vibes and lots of soul. The first one is a great heartfilling song. The new version with gilberto Gil to his old song in track six is great. Check out tracks 4 7 and 12 as well. I was in the concert itself in September in Rio De janiero. A great show but mostly with lots of love from all the band.
When you bring your heart soul and joy to music thats how it sounds...

Awesome Reggae from Brazil.......2003-06-15

Your lack of knowledge for Portuguese doesn't get in the way of enjoying this great Reggae group. They are a favorite in Brazil.
A friend of mine in Brazil first turned me on to this MTV Acoustic Concert album.

The music is fresh and has sensual flavor that keeps you coming back to each tract. One of my favorite cuts is Onde VocE Mora - very powerful.

The sweetest voice.......2005-10-13

Not exactly the best of Kid Abelha.......2004-07-20

Kid Abelha, with Paula Troller, George Israel and Bruno Fortunato, a very sucessful band in Brazil of pop/rock, in their new CD, in the well famous "acoustic" form. Their permomance was excellent, but this does not exactly apply to their selections of songs of their career. Where is "Pintura Intima", for example? I can say that 5 or 6 very good songs were put away favouring other songs, like "Brasil", a song made by George Israel and sang by Cazuza in the 80's, but never in a CD of Kid Abelha, and "Quero te Encontrar", sweet presentation of a hip hop song of Claudinho e Buchecha, but again, removing space that could be used to express the true soul of the history of the career's band.
A new song, "Nada Sei", however, was very well presented. Incredible song, very good words. And the presence of "Lagrimas and Chuva" and "Fixacao" high up the level of the CD, whose best song's perfomance, was, for me, "Como eu Quero".
The 19 songs among the CD are very good and very well peformed by the band, and Paula Troller's voice is in its best, but it could be, after all, even better. But who loves the band should have the CD. Even because more than 20 years of sucess are not for everyone.

La mejor banda de Brasil en version acustica.......2003-02-12

Los conocí en el año 1985 y desde ese momento me hice fanático de ellos a pesar de vivir en la Argentina.
Fue un placer escuchar temas de aquellos años como Lagrimas e chuva en esta version acustica. Sentir a Paula despues de tanto tiempo en esta version me puso la piel de gallina.
Muy bien cuidados todos los arreglos para esta seleccion de temas.
Optima la onda Police de temas como FixaÇao.
Delicados como siempre en Os Outros y Amanha é 23.
Es para sentarse, relajarse y disfrutar del show.
