Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars I Can Appreciate R.I. Doughery's Comments...........2005-12-06

I somehow stumbled onto this CD on Amazon's Russian music search; something about the cover of this CD seemed vaguely familiar..... I started reading the reviews, and realized that I had reviewed this one a couple of years earlier (I gave it 1 star). I noticed that there were 2 new reviews since I last reviewed, so I thought I'd listen to a couple of tracks to see if I had been too harsh the first time around...... OK, I still give it only 1 star; frankly, my grandfather would be rolling in his grave if he knew I had spent good money on this particular CD, but I do see the humor in playing this CD at a party! Listening to the little clip rendition of "Song of the Volga Boatmen" had me doubled over with laughter, tears streaming down my face....it was HYSTERICAL!!!!! Honestly, if I were 20 years younger, I would have a BLAST playing this one at parties!!!! But R.I.Doughery is right; don't take this CD literally! I must add that I think if Stalin were around today, this would be his favorite CD, hands down!

5 out of 5 stars Great Party Fun, don't take it too literally!.......2004-02-22

My friends and I always used to break this cd out during college parties as a sudden departure from the usual hip-hop that was playing and it would get rave reviews and curiously shocked faces. No, this is not a cd of Russian classics as they are meant to be played. Buy something else then. If you are looking for non-traditional and fun party music with an East Euro flair, this is your cd. The singers in this recording may be having TOO much fun!

5 out of 5 stars Proletariats Rejoice! Such beautiful voices!!!.......2004-02-19

Only the Red Army Choir could do more justice to these famous songs! With credit to Ilya Kovelenko's famous rendition of the Seagull and Kalinka(not to mention his work in Khovanshchina), this still blows them away. When I first heard this cd, I had the good fortune of being north of the artic circle; I quickly stripped and jumped into the nearest salt water pool on the outpost. Awe inspiring, and in more ways than one, purely intoxicating music from the steppes of Mother Russia. 6 stars if it were possible. Stolichnaya 4 ever!!!! GET THIS CD!!! Then get inebriated like a proper Muscovite Vocaliste...

5 out of 5 stars Only a (...) wouldn't like it..........2004-02-18

Grab this CD, grab some vodka, and then grab your friends. This CD is great for parties, especially Communist ones!!! The music will truly inspire drinking, the Russian way. It's more breath-taking than a sunrise in Vladivostok and could cheer up the most dreary Murmansk day. It'll have all your comrades equally distributing the fun, da!!!

1 out of 5 stars The WORST cd that I have ever bought!.......2004-01-13

I certainly have to agree with the others, this stuff is just terrible. I never even got through the whole cd....all of the songs sounded exactly alike. My 15 year old daughter said the music sounded like Communist Propoganda music. If you want some real Russian music, DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CD! I paid $3 or $4 for this cd, and that was way too much! I had to give this cd one star because the system would not let me continue without one; if I could have, I would have given it a MINUS ONE.
