5 out of 5 stars Those sounds...a mirror for me.......2007-07-11

Dear Customers,

Thank you for sharing these wonderful arrangements. Cave of the Siddhars. Your music is instantly translated into soul messages. Musical soul massage. I don't know if it was my conscious mind or my unconscious mind but one of them surrendered to the music thanks to the constant didgeridoo in the background. My mind remembered a timeless aspect of itself. Turiya Nada's music that for the first few seconds had sounded extremely exotic fit into the mold of my being, as a result when I combined the music with asana practice I was able to deepen in the poses knowing that I was being "cushioned" by the call of Turiya Nada. The final "Arohara" invocations of the final tracks are perfect for the ending of savasana for me...and I believe for others too.

Thanks,
Nathaniel

5 out of 5 stars that which is, that which we are.......2007-04-10

Cave of the Siddhars is an empowering journey bringing to light these ancient vibrations. Connect on a deep level with the inspiration of the perfected masters. Feel the immense wisdom these vibrations hold and begin to connect with thought as source in every breadth. If you are looking to align a deep spiritual experience this is the music for you as all walks of life.
Blessings

5 out of 5 stars The Truth of Being.......2007-03-30

i remember listening to the cd before going to a healing movement class. the music and chants vibrate the truth of being. i was able to feel grounded with the ability to completely empty out into the silence of the divine. one of my challenges it to keep my feet here while embracing the inner light. this cd is very supportive of the healing journey and wherever i am in the moment. a beautiful merging of primal sounds and pure light. thank you for the gift of this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Enter the magical/mystical realms :).......2007-03-12

Cave of the Siddhars CD entered my life back in May of 2006. Since then I have listened to it every day at least once. The blending of instruments and Nandhi's voice are amazing. Love it !! The resonance and high vibrational energies seem to awaken and stir ancient memories of knowingness within my being. At the same time bringing a sense of immense peace and joy. My cells dance to the vibrations. A CD that can be listened to anytime anywhere. Highly recommended. Dare to enter the magical/mystical realms of the Siddhar Masters and you won't be disappointed :)

5 out of 5 stars A Powerful Journey into the Turiya Nada.......2007-01-11

The wonderful combination of sacred mantras and astonishing music creates a profound inner experience. It is a powerful and amazing journey into the realm of Turiya Nada. I experienced that I was able to reach into a whole new level of awareness by flowing with the sound/light waves.
I was initially curious about how the digeridoo and the many other instruments would work in combination with the mantras, and it works just perfectly - there is always a delicate balance between the music and the chanting. Pure enjoyment all the way...
'The Cave of the Siddhars' really manages to transport awareness to a profound inner state of light and grace. It is a true blessing!

Product Description

WHISKY SUPPER, is our fifth CD, “ALMOST LIVE” the companion to BANGER FOR BREAKFAST. We have found that our live recordings seem to really capture who we are, musically and dynamically. On this recording, we had Tyler Spencer re-record the didgeridoo parts - hence ALMOST LIVE. We are an interactive band; we try to engage with our audiences so an instrument or two might get quieter or louder at some points. Don't worry, one or another of us is probably playing on someone's table or having a quick 'beverage' in the middle of a set. While you may hear the odd slip here or there, with this recording you'll feel the energy of our live show! Slainte

5 out of 5 stars Monterey Games.......2007-05-15

I first saw the Wicked Tinkers with my family at the August 2002 Monterey Games and greatly enjoyed the band. They are fabulous live. I have since bought everything that they have released. To this day my kids still ask for bagpipe music and dance about the house to it. This CD does a fair job of capturing the feel of their concert. It needs to be played LOUD (name of one of their other CDs) though to get a true feel. It is one of the best live CDs I have.

5 out of 5 stars eclectic celtic cavalcade.......2006-03-13

This CD is a great companion to the Banger For Breakfast CD, as both have very similar settings, i.e. live in front of fans in a tight atmosphere. For any fans of Irish or Scottish traditional music, this is a must have. But better yet, it's updated with what initially seems like odd pairings of instruments, like the bagpipes and the didgeridoo. Once you listen to how well those sounds plus snares, etc. meld into a wonderful set of tunes, however, you will look at Celtic music in an entirely different way. Plus, the band inserts humor and jokes, sometimes at their own expense, that gives their performances a funny and relaxed feeling. Each song is uniquely rendered but still has that familiarity that makes this genre of music so appealing. You simply can't go wrong with this one, from the nearly dirty poem to a new style Radar Love, and will quickly become a huge fan of the Tinkers. At nearly one hour in length, it will leave you wanting more. Thankfully, they have plenty more available!

Orion was commissioned for the 2004 Athens Cultural Olympiad. Composer Philip Glass's desire was to create a "truly multi-cultural, international music work." Those familiar with Glass's music will have an idea about what to expect---minimalist motifs repeated over and over, subtly changing both rhythmically and harmonically. But this 90-minute work devotes each of its nine sections to a particular nation: one each to Brazil, Canada, Australia, India, China, The Gambia, and Greece and three in combination. Glass uses instruments indigenous to each country, giving the work a terrific array of colors and flavors. The dark gruntings of the didgeridoo are made even more effective when contrasted with the dainty Chinese pipa, a sort-of cross between the lute and mandolin; the sounds of Nova Scotian fiddler Ashley MacIsaac are sharp edged and folksy; and there is a duet for high wind instrument and sitar. The finale is a Greek song with all the instrumentalists chiming in. "Orion" seems somewhat formless---it's not a concerto or symphony---but its series of movements have great beauty and tonal diversity and keep the ear fascinated. Highly recommended. --Robert Levine

All tracks on this cd are great but just wait 'till you hear " Brazil" . fantastic!!

5 out of 5 stars magic.......2006-11-10

This two-discs set brings you all over the world. It gives you a taste of different cultures and also the feeling that we all are the same, on the small grain os sand that Earth is, as it appears from the sky.

5 out of 5 stars Minimalist composer NONPAREIL.......2006-11-07

While I enjoy the work of many contemporary composers, Philip Glass is the only one I can think of who has yet to disappoint me. I have been entranced by every piece of his work that I have purchased and this one is no exception. It is not the technique that enchants as much as the soul and creative energy that emanates from each selection. There are other minimalist composers, but none that I have heard who can imbue their music with the sweeping, mesmerizing, heart embracing touch that is the hallmark of Glass's music. Orion is a feast for the mind and the spirit.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD overall, but not his best work.......2006-07-28

Though I'm a huge fan of Glass, and love most of his work, I feel that there were portions taken directly from other songs. I know that he is a minimalist composer, but Brazil, on the album, sounds like he took an excerpt from Aguas de Amazonia and added a couple more repeats in there.

Yes, I feel harshly about a portion or two of the CD, but it is an overall enjoyable piece of music to listen to. Glass does do a wonderful job at portraying the places of the world that he inteds in the music. So, as I said: overall, very enjoyable, but not his best work.

4 out of 5 stars Overly accessible.......2006-03-17

Just as the constellation Orion can be seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres, this collaborative work can appear within the aesthetic range of many musical continents. In widening the threshold; however, subtlety of contrast is lost. Celestial music need not sound like "space music" and , unfortunately, there are stretches of such stooping to popular tastes. Beautifully performed. Helpful liner notes. Brilliant juxtapositions--my favorite being "Canada", "Interlude: Canada & The Gambia", "The Gambia". How often do we get to have Ashley MacIsaac and Foday Musa Suso on the same album, much less playing in the same piece?

Album Description

Rainbow Serpent is one of the most important recordings of Australian Aboriginal music ever made. David Hudson, master of the Aboriginal instrument known as the didgeridoo, combines with long-time collaborator and producer, Steve Roach, to create music from a 50,000 year tradition which maintains its heart and soul in the setting of a modern digital recording studio.

Traditionally, the didgeridoo is capable of only one note, although numerous overtones of that note can be brought out and a wide variety of blowing techniques can sharply change the sound. In Rainbow Serpent, Hudson uses multiple didgeridoos, with simple percussion and some of Steve Roach's subtle digital processing, to create a unique recording that blends the most ancient musical sounds with the latest hi-tech sound devices.

Rainbow Serpent is clearly rooted in the Aboriginal tradition. Hudson uses the traditional technique of circular breathing to keep the flow of music continuous and to maintain its meditative state. In this technique, the player forces air out of his mouth while breathing in through the nose. The sound is punctuated by a repertoire of traditional grunts and cries, representing different animal spirits. This album is also the work of a contemporary musician and composer. Hudson uses original calls and vocalizing techniques to striking effect on Laura's Festival. Eerie, deep spatial effects are created by the combination of didgeridoo and digital reverb on Undara's Lava Tube; and in Leprechaun Corroboree, Hudson uses Celtic sounding percussion patterns as accompaniment.

Hudson's concluding piece is a spacey tour-de-force called New Beginning. Ringing harmonics, sweeping arcs of didgeridoos, and lonely bush sounds from Queensland, Australia, all inhabit the vast inner space of Steve Roach's digital studio environment. Rainbow Serpent is not a relic of ancient history, but a new Aboriginal music for the late 20th Century.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Eerie and spiritually soothing!.......2000-10-19

David Hudson's "Rainbow Serpent" album is a performance that has to be experienced to be appreciated. As a beginning didjeridoo player, it's amazing and instructive to hear the various tonal webs that Mr. Hudson weaves to the listener. It's easy to imagine sitting around a communal fire in the Outback with the stars overhead and the eerie but strangely beautiful and haunting sounds of the didjeridoo tugging at your primal memory. Excellent!

4 out of 5 stars One of my favorites.......1999-03-31

This CD along with "Ourimbah" are my two favorite Didgeridoo CD's.

5 out of 5 stars All David's work is excellent!.......1998-10-18

Rainbow Serpent is up to his usual high standard. I will always buy anything he does. If you want to hear a didgeridoo played by a master, this CD is a must.

5 out of 5 stars Very good playing; pioneer of didjeridu and percussion.......1998-06-13

David Hudson is one of the few players recorded who exhibits trance playing. His use of percussion is always complementary to the didjeridu and the pieces are exemplary of arrangements with integrity. This recording is a big influence on my playing.

5 out of 5 stars Nice sampling.......2006-08-06

I really enjoyed this collection of tracks from some of the top didgeridoo players in the world. There is a nice variety of styles and approachs to using the ancient instrument in modern and sometimes not so modern ways. I think in many ways, this CD would be an excellent introduction to the didgeridoo for those curious about it's use in contemporary music.

5 out of 5 stars magical fusion.......2004-03-10

What a great fusion of a variety of instruements and musical styles. Every track is great. This is the best cd I have bought in along while. Drums, sax, flute, didgeriedo and others to make a mesmerising collection of world music. You won't find music like this on popular radio. Can't say enough about this great collection of music.

5 out of 5 stars Solid Interesting enough didje with serenity and focus.......2006-04-30

This seems one of those standby cd's. It is excellent in its devoted feeling didjing and the recording quality is tops. I feel like I can put it on and not have any complaints about it. I just received it about a week ago. The first listen was hmmm...nothing striking, but then I started to love and appreciate it more. Nothing gets in the way of its simple, well done and innocent feeling sharing, and it doesn't sound produced in a take anyone sort of studio. There is a humility and care to the music. I like to balance it with the more middle of an Aborigine ceremony, mystical sense of Gunyal by D. Hudson.

5 out of 5 stars Be prepared to enter another world,.......1999-10-08

especially if you play it LOUD. The digeridoo, the world's most simply constructed instrument (but not the most easy to play), is felt as much as it is heard. The liner notes explain how Thomas performs this music for deaf children. The sound is so rich, it vibrates the air, the floor, the walls, and your mind. I find it very cleansing and often do yoga to it. The one criticism I have is that some of the percussion playing does not keep up an even time. For any other type of music this would be disasterous, but for here it is acceptable because it only enhances the primal nature of this music. Primal, but not without sophistication. It may scare the kids and the dog at first, but they will get used to it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Addition to the Music for Deep Meditation Series.......2007-05-16

I'm a big fan of the first 3 CDs, so I had to snatch this one up right away. I had a lot of expectations, since the first three were so good. I wasn't sure if the quality would still be up to par.

Thankfully, I loved it! These people know what they're doing. Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Interesting music for meditation.......2007-05-12

I first heard the Didgeridoo at a spiritual retreat in Maui.
I found the primal sound of the instrument very soothing and powerful.
I have never heard the Didgeridoo played with the Tibetan Singing Bowl but it does make for an interesting background music for meditation.

I like to other releases from Music for Deep Meditation a little better but I would still recommend this one.

Another relatively recent product, this package features multi language narration as well as a multi language booklet which covers every track on the CD. First of all, I really like a package that includes written material. It makes it so much easier to quickly refer to specifics of any lesson between listens to and practice with the audio material. Additionally, the written material includes brief information on the history of the instrument, how they are made, the geographic regions of origin, playing styles, instrument care, instrument types and answers to frequently asked questions.

There are basically eight steps in the lesson plan starting with production of the basic drone, using the tongue, playing with syllables (mouth shapes), creating basic rhythms, circular breathing, breath exercises, animal sounds and finally some additional rhythm examples.

Also really good is the presentation of each sound first using the voice, then through buzzing lips and finally through the didgeridoo is a great way to learn. This course is very consistent in this which means the learner really knows what to expect ever step of the way. The narrations are quite clearly done as well.

The section on circular breathing is also somewhat original. For people who are having trouble getting the circular breathing, it is always worth while to get a different approach to the technique. This one involves actually spitting water down your didgeridoo so be prepared for some major "leakage" at the bottom of your didge. At minimum, I would suggest playing over a towel or perhaps a bucket for this one! Circular breathing is not broken down in as many steps as in Alastair Black's method. This section could probably have been expanded a bit to explain the role of the tongue, cheeks and diaphragm. However, in context with the rest of the learning material presented, it is an appropriate treatment of the subject. A down fall of many instructors is to over emphasis or make too much of circular breathing on the instrument. Most people take some amount of time and experimentation to get it after all. There is so much more to playing the instrument than circular breathing.

    Product Description

Between tracks of pulsating didgeridoo rhythms and percussion, voices of tribal elders and sounds of wildlife from Australia s Outback combine to form a world music journey you can move to. Includes a 16-page booklet with photos & journal notes, taking an intimate look into Aboriginal culture and the mysteries of their DREAMTIME. Also contains rare interviews and ceremonial songs from Aborigines recorded on-site in the Outback. The Dreamtime was a creation era long ago, when flourishing ancestral spirits developed all laws and patterns of life to come for everything. The laws created and events from that ancient time are integral to the tribal Aborigine, as they dictate how to live while keeping spiritual union with the land and animals. Often these events are re-enacted in ceremonies, guided by didgeridoo and song, which help call forth magic from the supernatural powers in the cosmos.
