Surprising.......2007-04-13

What a pleasant surprise! This was not what I expected, but it was such fun, uplifting music. Everyone I know has enjoyed it. I now have a strong desire to learn the French language. If you enjoyed "Michelle", "JeTaime" or "Lady Marmalade", you will find this CD to be a 'keeper'. I will never regret accidentally ordering the Matisse CD.

THE Best Album of 2005.......2005-10-25

This is the single best ALBUM of 2005. If I ruled the world, I would give any and all best musical artist awards to Yannick Noah for an OUTSTANDING job on this CD. His voice is so beautiful, passionate, deep, and encompassing, and the best part is- I don't understand a word he is saying!

It is impossible for me to sound like a decent reviewer here... I can't help but gush like an overjoyed child. I am serious when I say that HE IS AMAZING and his songs are beautiful, fun, danceable, and meaningful (check out La Voix De Sages.) He is able to blend reggae with a soulful edge, with classical guitar beats, and hard, rythmic drums with a background gospel that, when I close my eyes, I can only imagine would be the background music I would want if I were traveling in Africa. This is what is amazing: You don't NEED to close your eyes (or shell out any money) for a trip to paradise... whether through the sparkling expanse of blue waters on the coast to the grasslands in the mainland... you are just, simply, beautifully, THERE.

I hope this man is able to have a lifetime of success and happiness on the foundation of his musical career. He deserves it. And it's about time the world had a wakeup call to what great music is.

It's just another Yannick Monday.......2003-03-19

Say the words "Yannick Noah" to most teenagers now, and all they will say is "Yannick was born in Sedan, France, 18 May 1960" - or something equally banal. They haven't seen or understood his mastery of the ukelele. This was a skill that Yannick developed when on the tennis circuit, so I gather, reportedly while doing a tie-breaker banjo-off (Deliverance-style) against Ivan Lendl. It's obviously stood him in good stead, as anyone who's had the pleasure to hear Yannick Noah [IMPORT] will know.

The only reason I'm giving this three stars rather than five is because I bought it by mistake, trying to get a copy of a book by the fabulous Yanni.

Phenomenal CD from Tennis Star Yannick Noah.......2001-07-26

This CD is simply fantastic and I am not sure that a 5 star rating can truly convey how great a recording this is! Noah's debut album is full of African rhythyms and Reggae beats. Steel drums play a prominent role but there is clearly a more mainstream feel to this music that makes it easy to understand why Yannick Noah is soaring up the pop charts in France.

While most of the CD is in French do not let that stop you from buying it. As a French speaker, I can assure you that a lack of fluency in the French language (or not speaking French at all, for that matter) will not hinder your enjoyment. This is about the music and the music is phenomenal. The lyrics are not complex and often repeat. My guess is that, French speaker or not, you will soon be singing along with Noah.

My favorite tracks, if I am forced to choose amongst such a well put togther CD, include "Madingwa," "Simon Papa Tara," and "Jamafrica." Frankly, I can't get "Simon Papa Tara" out of my head.

Never would I have believed that tennis great Yannick Noah (yes, the musician and the tennis player are one in the same!) could create such an incredible album. Noah's debut CD will stay in my collection of favorites for a long time.

Pleasant suprise.......2004-04-22

Yannick Noah is a former French Open winner and captain of the French Davis Cup Team. That did not make me buy the CD. While in France back in March/2004, my buddy bernard pointed this CD out to me when I was in a store with him. I looked at him kind of dubiously, but he said, "really, it is a very good album". I bought it and was very pleased with it.There are some raggae and AFrican rythms. You don't have to speak French to appreciate it, but if you read the accompanying lyrics, it is a very optomistic album. I thought the first 3 tracks were the best, but the album overall is a very nice body of work that I would happily reccomend to somebody who wants something a little different.

J'adore Yannick Noah. He is one of my favorite French artists and this collection is a perfect way to start listening to his music. Even after weeks of recieving this item, I am listening to these discs almost every day. A very promising purchase that I'd recommend to anyone who is a music lover.
