Geno Delafose - Louisiana Phenomenon.......2007-02-11
All Geno Delafose's recordings are excellent, but this is his best effort. The musicians are tight yet exuberant, and the added treat of Michael Doucet's fiddle to several tracks makes for an exceptional musical experience. This is the most high-energy, incredibly danceable Zydeco album around. If this music doesn't get you off your duff and on your feet, nothing will!!!
Typically wonderful!.......2005-12-06
Geno Delafose can do no wrong, well... maybe he can, but if so, I've never heard it! This album is yet another testament to his high-quality playing, singing and raw energy.
Geno is the son of zydeco legend John Delafose, but nepotism was not a factor in making Geno famous: he is a living legend in his own right.
Unlike many of the popular stars in the zydeco movement today, who play essentially hip-hop with an accordion, Geno keeps one foot planted firmly in the past, singing many of his songs in French and playing with more traditional Zydeco rhythms. It's still fresh, though, and consistently so.
Pick up this album, you'll be glad you did.
Everybody's Dancin'.......2005-07-21
I saw Geno at a Cajun festival and just absolutely fell in love. The Stetson and the smile and his mix of music was amazing and oh so entertaining. I could have easily sat there for hours listening to him. So without the real thing... this is as close as I can get for now. The tempo is upbeat and the music is so fresh. The waltzes are a wonderful change of pace from contemporary music (top 40/adult rock. This CD is the first I have bought of his but I will have them ALL very soon!!! Great investment!!!
New and Old.......2005-01-27
I love the traditional roots of this album. It is unusual to see a young performer still honoring his Creole roots and singing in French. The Sam Cooke cover is as sweet as the original.
Zydeco is great.......2003-06-26
Why had I never heard of Zydeco? American all the way with a southern French flavor. I heard it for the first time on WNYC New York Public Radio. Really great, great stuff!

With a significant caveat, you could easily say Geno Delafose is a young, almost brashly traditional musician pushing the envelope on zydeco. The caveat is this: Where zydeco has become far more R&B-inflected, Delafose takes the music back to its traditional roots, the common ground shared between zydeco and Cajun styles. "La Chanson Perdue" is Delafose's third Rounder CD and again shines with his smooth, high-mid range vocals and impeccable sense of how to make his creole French bend to fit the rhythms. His accordion playing is spirited but still in clear cahoots with Steve Nash's rubboard, and especially when the band slips into more Cajun vibes, as on "Tite Monde," you can hear for certain how much rural Louisiana Cajun French has informed Delafose. The guest appearances from fiddler Steve Riley and guitarist Christine Balfa are not to be taken as mere cameos, either, for they help churn the dance energies to a perfect pitch. --Andrew Bartlett

Wonderful!.......2005-12-15
Geno Delafose can do no wrong, well... maybe he can, but if so, I've never heard it! This album (like all of his consistently phenomenal albums) is yet another testament to his high-quality playing, singing and raw energy.

Geno's La Chanson Perdue, an excellent Zydeco CD.......2003-08-05
If you're looking for a good Zydeco CD, then do yourself a favor and pick up this release by Geno Delafose. Geno is a very adept accordion player and singer and he leads his band - French Rockin' Booogie - through the paces on this CD. Geno plays Zydeco with a definite nod to traditional arrangements. For example, Geno plays waltzes - something that is rare for a Zydeco band. Bonsoir Moreau is included, a beautiful end-of-the-evening waltz. Opelousas Waltz is also on this release. Geno plays graceful passages on accordion and also some heart-pumping Zydeco phrases as well. Listen to My True Love, Bernadette and Double D Two Step and you will want to dance. If you ever get the chance to see Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie live, then by all means go to the show and be prepared to dance. Geno and the band are at the top of their game and IMHO, there is no better Zydeco act touring the country. Two enthusiastic accordion player's thumbs up for this CD.
Geno at the height of his Zydeco Music career!.......2002-04-07
Even though Geno Delafose is the sexiest accordion player alive, this reason alone is not enough to buy this CD. However, Geno has pulled together some of the greatest musicians in the primes of their careers: John "Popps" Esprite boasts a mean bass, while "Cookie" Chavis (sound familiar?) jams a rockin' guitar, while enthusiastic metallic rhythm is kept by Steve Nash (who also dances a mean Zydeco step), and Geno's cousin, double clutchin' Germaine Jack on drums. This CD is a prime example of just how Zydeco music only gets better as the originators of Zydeco's offspring only make better what their fathers started. Lyrics of each song are sung in Creole French, and included in the CD in both Creole French and English. Catch Geno and his band at their best! I highly recommend this CD to any newly budding Zydeco enthusiasts!
Cajun Zydeco with a lotta soul!.......2001-07-31
Saw Geno at The Ritzville Blues Festival and was blown away by his talent playing and very soulful singing! Nicer person you will not meet! Took photos with him too! Play him often on The Crazy Coyote Blues and Jazz Show 1490 KOTY southcentral Wa. State.
Great Zydeco with a little Creole flavor.......1998-09-10
Highly recommended by a Louisiana native

Geno is a great Louisiana artist. If you ever get a chance to hear him in person, jump on it.
good sound.......2000-05-24
I enjoyed this, I listen to it a couple of times a week. Good clean sound.
Excellent!.......1998-09-10
All of Geno's CD's are good. Some of the CD's they have in this listing are not - Queen Ida and some others are NOT what people in Southwest Louisiana listen to, believe me. Geno is the real thing.
