5 out of 5 stars LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-08-29

THE ORIGINAL LP EXTENDS FURTHER IN THE LOWS,AND THE HIGHS ARE MORE DEFINED. BUT FOR A CD IT WON ME OVER AND I STORED MY LP AWAY WITH COLLECTION.

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2005-10-01

As a score collector, I got this with anticipation. I'm not dissapointed, great score. It is adventurious and even a touch of drama. I don't think Brad fiedel has done many scores for movies, or at least that's what I think but he hit the mark for the T-2 score. Very fun to listen too, a score that matters.

5 out of 5 stars Terminator 2 - Judgment Day: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.......2005-08-27

Brad Fiedel's trademark music for James Cameron's fantastic SF thriller TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY is one of my all-time favourite movie soundtracks. Starting off with the instantly recognizable "Terminator" theme, Fiedel eschews traditional techniques in favour of a far more impressive array of techno-rock frenetic tempo lineage that works just as well in the feature film as a stand alone piece. Tracks like "Helicopter Chase" and Hasta La Vista Baby" are the highlights of this impressive disc.In a time when the more favourable choice for movie soundtracks was artsists who used their invovlement with the film's musical department to publicise their latest tune, this is something of an oddity, since all tracks are simply orchestral. Pleasing too, considering this is not the usual decision for films of this genre. Overall, a great score and indisposable for movie composer collectors.

4 out of 5 stars A great score-but missing something.......2005-06-06

Brad Fiedel does a great job scoring this film. I have always enjoyed listening to it. I am however dissapointed that the best part of the film (mall/canal chase) wasn't included on the release. Other than tha it's a terrific score!

5 out of 5 stars Excelent .......2005-01-10

Why the HELL is this cd out of print????? Maybe they are remastering it who knows. But you have ALIENS, LABYRINTH, NEVERENDING STORY for christs sake, and all of those are still being made. How is this cd out of print???? I want a brand new copy.

5 out of 5 stars The Only Demonstration Disc You'll Ever Need.......2006-06-10

Well, I suppose that depends on the type of music you're testing your equipment for. However, go to almost any online discussion of audio equipment, particularly subwoofers, and you'll come across this disc. Sure, most of the other reviewers mention the sound effects in less than glowing terms. It remains though that this disc contains some of the crazy lowest signals one can buy on disc. The T rex footsteps shake the windows in my house despite being below my hearing range with my Velodyne 12" sub. Incredible stuff. And the glass shattering sound effects in the Terminator theme can melt your tweeters too if turned up too loud. Don't take yourself too seriously for a few minutes and enjoy the noise!
Beyond that, musically this is one of the Cincinatti Pops' finest soundtrack collections. Perhaps the best. Almost all of their recordings are sonically of the highest quality (Copland: Music of America won a Grammy for best engineering), but all too often in recent years the releases have not met the standard of this album. Arrangers that don't begin to care what the composer's intent was or tacking on pre-fab endings are the worst offenders, but most of the selections here meet or exceed the quality of the original soundtracks. All around, a great soundtrack collection.

5 out of 5 stars An Adventure For Your Ears.......2004-06-01

The Cincinnati Pops do an excellent job of faithfully reproducing movie soundtracks and this album is a perfect example. In fact after listening to this CD a few times, I tracked down some of the original soundtracks because I enjoyed the selections on here, such as the "El Cid" music and "Jurrasic Park." I also really enjoyed the music from "Henry V" "Robin Hood,"and "Hunt for Red October." The different tracks go together surprisingly well, like many of the pops other thematic CD's. While it might be helpful to have seen some of the movies the soundtracks come from, it is not crucial. The added soundeffects are a little gimmicky, but fairly short and on seperate tracks, so they can be skipped. If you enjoy movie soundtracks, this is a great investment.

5 out of 5 stars Blows Away All Other Such Compilations!.......2003-04-02

"Caution: Digital Sound Effects of high levels with intrasonic frequencies to 5 Hz. Please establish safe playback levels before playing tracks [3], [5], [19], [20], and [21]. Excessive playback levels could result in damage to equipment."

The above quote is found prominantly on the back cover and is a warning not to be taken lightly. The respective tracks are awesome and should be played, as well as listened to, with great care.

A 20-bit digital recording that is perfect for surround-sound systems, "The Great Fantasy Adventure Album" is a wonder for fans of the sci-fi/fantasy film genre. Highlighting some truly landmark films, the 1994 release showcases compositions from the legends of past and contemporary film scoring. Themes from the likes of Rosza, Williams, Horner, Herrmann, and Elfman are grandiosely featured here.

The best cuts are Goldsmith's "Total Recall: Main Title", "Conan the Barbarian: Anvil of Crom" (Poledouris), and Brad Fiedel's "Terminator: Theme".

Upon hearing this trio, chills will not just go up the spine but will permeate every ounce of one's body

5 out of 5 stars The perfect movie theme collection.......2000-08-16

I have a good number of Kunzel CDs, but this one could easily be called "Mark's Favorite Movie Themes." It doesn't matter that I have many of these repeated on other CDs; it saved me the trouble of having to burn my own 'faves' disc. It's good to see Basil Polodouris' "Conan" and "Red October" themes, he's often overlooked as a film composer, in my book, and regardless what one might think of the movie, the Conan score is still probably the best thing he's ever done. And the hard-to-find "Terminator" theme is hard NOT to listen to, with its highly unusual rythmic motif. I enjoy all the music selections, but having James Horner's sublime theme from "The Rocketeer" was well worth the price of the CD by itself. This is what a movie themes CD should be, and it helps that I happen to like Kunzel's choice of selections, for once. The sound effects that typically accompany these CDs are generally annoying, but I like the sonar segue into "Red October," and the T-Rex roar that precedes "Jurassic Park" is useful for scaring kids at Halloween.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best cd I have ever bought.......1999-10-27

No words can compare how remarkable this cd is. Combined with incredible sound quality, this cd will twist and turn you emotions with every single score. i can honestly say that this disc is the perfect relaxation and energizing thing ever.

MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the previous release "Valley Of The Jeep Beets".
In the last album, it seemed as if Terminator was on the sell out tip, infact he even had a pop track on the album. How low can you go?
On this album, he totally redeems himself. He's back with his original industrial/Hip-Hop beats that we know him for, along with Chuck, and a nice round up of Hip-Hop forefathers.
I can't really describe this, all I can say is it is cool in the way that only Terminator X can deliver. Definatly a MUST buy for any PE collector.

Schwarzenegger's time-traveling, world-wrecking cyborg is back, but most of the original films' creative team and cast have been replaced here, with Italian-born composer Marco Beltrami (who's cut his journeyman chops on a raft of contemporary sci-fi/horror films and sequels, including the Scream franchise, Joy Ride, and Resident Evil) being a sage choice to score this third installment. Pumping Brad Fiedel's brooding original theme with even more menace, the composer proceeds to forge a massive, unsettling panorama of percussion-driven, electronic suffused orchestral fury that evokes an unsettling, mechanized world gone mad. Sounding like the symphonic sensibilities of Prokofiev and Shostakovich as interpreted by the mechanized forges and stamping machines of some hellish assembly line, Beltrami uses the most aggressive elements of 20th century Russian romanticism here like a steel club. There are moments of stem-winding suspense and surprisingly tranquil respites, but the main attraction is the sturm und drang of Beltrami's furious and often other-worldly action music. Also included are the gentle acoustic ballads "Open to Me" and "I Told You" by Dillon Dixon and Mia Julia, respectively, performances that seem jarringly out of place contrasted against the score's orchestral metal-fest. --Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars Not one of Beltrami's best........2007-01-22

I'm a pretty big fan of Beltrami, but this soundtrack was a rather large disappointment.

The main fault is that Beltrami used a Hollywood in-studio symphony for the recording, but it doesn't sound full or grand enough... it sounds processed. Cheap. If he had recorded these epic sounds with a *real* symphony, like Williams or Morricone, I imagine this score would have been much better.

Maybe he was trying to deliberately go for a processed sound because the film is about machines taking over. Unfortunately, it just sounds tinny and thin and - at times - rather laughable. A shame, really.

The music itself isn't really that great either - he was working off of Fiedel's original score and trying to implement some new stuff, and that's admirable in and of itself, but this is one of his weaker efforts.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent work by Beltrami.......2006-06-24

Although Brad Fiedel - the composer of the first 2 Terminator soundtracks - has stepped aside fo T3, Marco Beltrami has ably stepped into the role & created a very respectable score for T3: Rise of the machines. The score still has a very 'mechanical' feel to it, which ably portrays the events in the movie as Skynet hijacks the Department of defense computers to start the nuclear war that will lead to the events wee all recognize with the Terminator series. A thoroughly likable CD!

3 out of 5 stars All SCORE, but few SONGS.......2006-01-01

Normally a Motion Picture Soundtrack comes in two varieties: SONGS from the Motion Picture Soundtrack, and the Motion Picture SCORE.
This soundtrack includes only the orchestral SCORE, which is quality stuff (as scores go), but if you're looking for those cool songs that set a comedic mood behind certain scenes, don't expect to find them on this CD.

Strangely, this CD DOES include two SONGS that seem to have little or nothing to do with the film (and which may or may not have played during the end credits):
"I Told You" performed by Dillon Dixon,
and "Can't Hide This" performed by Mega Jeff.

But this soundtrack CD omits the songs:
"Sugar," and "Party," performed by Peter Beckett,
"Macho Man" performed by the Village People,
"I told you" performed by Mia Julia,
    "Dat Funky Man"
(the song heard in the background while the T-1000 pillages the convenience store) performed by William Randolph III, and
"The Current" performed by Blue Man Group.

Why on earth these tracks were not included on the T3 Soundtrack, or a separate "Songs From" CD isn't available, I cannot fathom.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome score! .......2005-12-21

One of My favorite scores is this one! Its exciting and has the listener's adrenaline following! Most of the tracks roll right into each other making no breaks in the score. Its loud and has good rhythm with mixed electronics and orchestra. A couple songs are located at the end of the CD. Fans of the performers should like them. Marco Beltrami's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines score is an non-stop action packed listen from beginning end! Check it out!

    4 out of 5 stars Song?.......2005-12-09

5 out of 5 stars Terminator Trilogy Fan.......2006-04-06

I love the dark themed plays throughout this soundtrack, I was considering getting the standard Soundtrack of this Motion Picture, however I saw there was too much missing content, so I decided to purchase this one, and I have to say, its an excellent score. Brad Fiedel made a classic, rememberable theme if you ask me, He did even better with the second installment of the series and its score. The Terminator Definative Soundtrack is the one recommended for True Die Hard Fans of this series. Yes it excludes the 80's Pop Tech-Nor Bar songs, but those weren't the best anyway, Brad Fiedels work alone makes this soundtrack worth buying. If your a big Terminator Fan and you love the music from the film, I highly recommend this soundtrack, and the Terminator 2 Judgement Day: Soundtrack as well.

    An Excellent Purchase.

5 out of 5 stars BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!!!!.......2006-01-29

5 out of 5 stars Yes!!! WHO CARES about the 80's songs, lol.......2005-10-01

Do people ACTUALLY care about the 80's songs not on this soundtrack version????? PLEASE! Lol. This is exactly what you want for the terminator soundtrack - the COMPLETE SCORE. If you want to hear those cal 80's songs then go buy those band's albums. I couldn't have wanted more out of this score. My favorite tracks are the terminator theme and love scene. The Rest are very good too though of course, it's the terminator score! Not to be missed by soundtrack collectors. Brad fiedel did a great job on this, for a guy that hasn't done many scores, he sure has great talent and sounds like the best of them.

5 out of 5 stars The Terminator: The Definitive Edition.......2004-04-05

This is basically is the best soundtrack you could get its espically better then the first Version of the Track you got all the music from the theme then just like 4 tracks and the rest its songs. but this is for the fans who like the Terminator music not the songs, everyone can remember the Terminator theme in the back ground on the main titles and at the end, The Terminators Arrival that beats it way though out the film? thats the Definitive Edition

4 out of 5 stars What he said........2004-01-31

I agree with everything Zagnorch wrote about this product (Where are the bad dance tracks?); but, I perhaps like Fiedel's work better, and as such, was not as dissapointed. Well, that, and I already own the original disk.

The score for Terminator 2, is more than just an upgrade of the original material, it is an expansion of the musical landscape presented in the truly unique sound of the first film. One thing I have never gotten is why film score reviewers seem content to bash Brad Fiedel's Terminator scores, praiseing his main Terminator theme, but denouncing the rest of the score as simply "noise." Terminator 2 is more human and emotional than the first score, but that has to do with the growth of the Terminator character in the film as it begins to understand the nature of human emotion. Aside from having two brilliant reprises of the original Terminator theme we are given a wealth of new and experimental material that does for synthesizers what Jerry Golsmith did for precussion in the original Planet of the Apes. Terminator 2 has a unique sound that no other film has duplicated. Tracks like "Trust me" and "I'll be back" are real action highlights, while "desert suite" gives a sense of impending doom and abiance that fits the scene like a glove. Fiedel knows what he is doing with this score since listening to it conjurs so many memories of the corresponding scenes it makes you realize that the score for T2 is a vital part of the film. It is powerful, unique, experimental, at times touching, and well worth owning to any film score collector.

    5 out of 5 stars The Blues.......2005-10-13

A Public Enemy fanatic, I bought this CD when it came out in 1991. It's been in the forefront of my collection ever since. A lot of people could learn from the production on this CD ... it's totally spectacular. And emotionally and song-wise, I sincerely believe "The Blues" featuring Andreas 13 is one of the greatest hip hop tracks of all time. Don't let this album under your radar.

This CD is DOPE!! Incredible beats, A variation of different groups from different places and the songs are HOT!! A must have! Probably, the most recognized songs are "BUCK WHILIN" feat: Chuck D & Sista' Soulja' and "HOMIE DON'T PLAY THAT"! these beats are PHATT! You won't go wrong copping this one!

      5 out of 5 stars Vails Triumph.......2001-03-27

I too wish that I had purchased this album way back. Absolutely superb, solid bass playing, great bass lines, great melodies and superb voice. This and his other title 'Says Who' are probably my most listened to albums of all time. I own Kubicki Ex. Factor basses myself and can relate to the funky sound given and I think this helps even more to appreciate his incredibly fluid playing style. His playing is simply amazing and his writing skills are a credit to him. Keep it up Vail, you are up there with the best !

      4 out of 5 stars A BASSIC TRIUMPH!.......2000-12-13

I discovered this CD long after it's initial release and wish I had heard it much sooner. While Vail Johnson certainly demonstrates impressive chops on his bass, he also harnesses them to create interesting and highly listenable MUSIC (something that can not always be said of other musicians who specialize on one particular instrument - HINT Mr. Steve Vai). Terminator would be a great addition to anyone's CD collection.

5 out of 5 stars Vail Johnson, the unspoken bass heavy weight.......2000-10-28

I got to see him on video playing with Kenny G. What a player! His sound on the Factor Bass is very deep and crispy when popping. He tunes the lower conventional E, to D in getting the lower open string sounding something really deep. He's got the speed for popping with two fingers combined with the thumb in creating 'popping triplets'. Well, thats as far I could analyse.

Listening to sound samples in his album 'Terminator' compells me to buy the CD. (I am a Sri Lankan living in Singapore. If I'd not be able to find it here in HMV, or Tower Records, I will need to get down thro' the net) It sounds ideal for a bass lover and a player like me to get inspirations. Well done Vail, keep going. You are among the top basists in the world.

5 out of 5 stars One hell of a bassy album. Vail has a good sound........1998-11-29

As a bass player, I find vails playing very exciting to listen to. I've seen him play live with kenny G aswell. This album is a one of a kind, its stylish and classy, but still maintains that rough sound to it.
