Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessor's more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase his true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Thanks to his much-publicized personal travails, it's easy to overlook the multiple talents that originally made Crosby a star in his days with The Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash. This, his first solo effort, was recorded in 1971 (following Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's Deja Vu) and contains some of his most impressive vocal and songwriting work, including the haunting "Laughing," the mantra-like "Music Is Love," and the extended, impressionistic "Cowboy Movie." With guest appearances by such famous friends as Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, and Jerry Garcia, it's a fascinating chapter in an always-interesting career that's all too often been overshadowed by headlines. --Scott SchinderCustomer Reviews:

this Lp stomps almost all CSNY solos.......2007-02-08
Simply put this LP represents many "firsts" beside DC's "first" LP. This may be the "first" LP that N. Young contributed a song that can only be found here, I know of no other LP with as many major sanfransico/haight ashbury groups on one lp. This is the only LP on which you can find these songs. I don't know why they're not included in the box set, instead they include many CSN and CSN&Y songs...probably in order to sell it, which brings up another strange thing about this LP, the critics hated it. THANK GOD almighty I didn't read the reviews or I may never have bought this LP!!!! That was back when I didn't know better. I equate music critics on par with weather men and stock brokers - professions seemingly incapable of doing their jobs accurately no matter how much help they have!!!!
Back to the music. I believe the quality in writing and playing place this LP beyond any solo CSN&Y LP and elevate it to equal any CSN and CSN&Y LP except deja vu. The only detraction I make when I place it par with these LP's is that it had no "hits" which we find abound on CSN and CSN&Y LP's.
bottom line: if you like CSN and CSN&Y you will love this!!!!!!

If Josh Groban's unabashedly melodramatic musical fusion inspires grousing on both sides of the classical/pop pundit divide, the screams of the (mostly) young female fans that punctuate these 2004 performances at L.A.'s historic Greek theater better underscore the real point. This set's CD and more expansive DVD complement each other well; if anything, supplemented by a live string ensemble and crack backing band, they're a warmer, more focused showcase for the singer's talents than the studio albums that made his meteoric fame. In peak form, Groban variously delivers forceful renditions of his pop-operatic powerhouses "Canto Alla Vita" and "Anna Luce Del Sole" (the former featuring a drum solo [!] from Groban, the latter a fine guest turn by Bela Fleck on banjo), takes a surprising solo piano break on Paul Simon's "America," waxes Central Asian on Troy's "Remember" and brings the crowd to its feet with the heart-on-his-sleeve dramatics of Closer's "Never Let Go." They're all informed by the singer's insouciant, youthful enthusiasm, arguing that Groban is gifted with more than just a magnificent voice; he's a complete natural as a performer as well. The DVD also includes a tour diary narrated with typical charm by the singer, as well as bonus live performance of "Believe" from the Polar Express soundtrack. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description
Josh Groban's 2002 PBS "Great Performances" special was a #1 selling DVD and the best-selling long-form music video of 2003. His second "Great Performances" special was taped at L.A.'s Greek Theater in the summer of 2004. For fans of the young sophisticated pop phenomenon who has sold more than 8 million albums, this CD+DVD package is just the latest great performance in the career of Josh Groban. DVD Extras: On the road with Josh for Summer 2004 Tour and a special performance of "Believe" from The Polar Express (it's PBS footage mixed w/ film footage).Customer Reviews:

Let me explain..........2007-01-14
The waving of the light sticks was started at the very beginning of his first tour, mainly to show him how much the fans appreciated the concerts. The first idea was to wave them during the last verse of "You Raise Me Up," when the choir came out. Later, fans added another show of support by waving blue light sticks during "Vincent (Starry Starry Night."
OK, if you still find that annoying, that's your right. However, the flag waving at the end of "To Where You Are" was special. This concert was filmed on September 11, and the flags were waved at the end of "To Where You Are" for those who were lost, and the families of those who were lost, on 9/11/2001.
It's your right if you still find these things annoying. I just thought I'd try to help you to understand.
Since this is a forum for giving our opinions of the DVD, I have to say that I love it. He has a beautiful voice and I love listening to him under any circumstance. The DVD is wonderful, IMHO.

Denzel Washington stars as a black football coach hired over a white coach at a recently racially integrated Virginia high school in the early 1970s. Director Boaz Yakin (A Price Above Rubies, Fresh) has a baby boomer's heart in mind with a stylistic array of early 1970s sounds supported by Trevor Rabin's orchestral score (one seven-minute excerpt, "Titans Spirit," finishes things off here). Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band's "Express Yourself" is, perhaps, the greatest surprise, while oddball favorites such as Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky," Steam's "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye," and Eric Burdon and War's "Spill the Wine" match up with country star Buck Owens's "Act Naturally." Covers include a fiery version of Sly Stone's "I Want to Take You Higher" and Leon Russell's laid-back barrelhouse-piano take on the doomsday anthem "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall." Cat Stevens's "Peace Train" rolls into the station in its original version. Creedence Clearwater Revival (who appear with "Up Around the Bend") are outswamped by the Hollies' imitation of their sound with "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)." --Rob O'ConnorCustomer Reviews:

More filling than the two Very Best CDs in the Otis Redding catalog, less hefty than the four-disc Otis! box, Dreams to Remember is a double set of highlights that's no doubt just what many new and old fans need. Mixing signature numbers such as "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay" and "Respect" with lesser-known works of genius like "I Love You More Than Words Can Say" and "Trick or Treat," this package gives Redding his due once more--and in superfine style. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

"Dreams to Remember" is beautifully presented by Rhino, who continue to set the bar in compilations. All the tracks are top-notch including "These Arms of Mine" and "Love Man" (two favorites featured in the film "Dirty Dancing"), "Try A Little Tenderness", the extraordinary version of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and of course, "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay". There are also some live tracks, which are essential because Otis was highly regarded for his live performances.
If you are able to find this collection, I urge you to buy it. And I urge music stores to stock up on their Otis CDs! LOL

Deluxe 2-disc CD/DVD reissue of the classic 1971 solo debut album from two-time Rock and roll Hall of Famer David Crosby.Customer Reviews:
Ecstatic.......2007-07-03
The band includes so many of the best (look up PERRO, the Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra). The songs are meditations. "What Are their Names" is one of the most powerful antiwar songs ever written. The vocals and instrumentals are flawless, mellow, strong. Crosby is to be revered, for this gem alone.
You will not regret.
Great Album, disappointing package.......2007-04-07
Also disappointing is the short picture gallery, which doesn't include all the original pictures from the original record sleeve. And, although a video is listed, there is none.
What a sad way to disappoint those of us who consider this to be one of the greatest albums ever released.
Buyer- beware. You're getting less than you deserve, especially at this high price.
Crosby's masterpiece, with a little help from his friends.......2007-03-07
The men who REALLY run this land?
And I wonder why they run it
With such a thoughtless hand.
What are their names
And on what streets do they live?
I'd like to RUN right over.
and give them a piece of my mind
..."
Still true, 40 years later, huh?
Crosby combines the services of parts of The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Neil Young (see above), Joni Mitchell and others. Everybody sings and plays. Hippies who loved harmony. Great harmonies that float around the room like organ chords flying in Grace Cathedral. Very San Francisco Haight-Ashbury. In the late 60's these groups often gave free concerts, just set up amps in Golden Gate Park and played. There was none of the competition that would come later, music was communal! People report getting a contact-high just from listening.
Particularly wonderful I have always thought, is "Orleans", the laid-back "Mt Tamalpais High", the Title track and Neil Young's song quoted above, is just as true today as in 1969. I like all but the edgy "Cowboy Movie' but don't let that keep you from buying this masterpiece. Jerry Garcia, new to the pedal steel guitar, experimented and took risks a seasoned professional wouldn't do and they all succeed marvelously!
Crosby is at the heights of his powers before drugs and coke would ruin his life.
The new CD version is much better sounding than the murky older one, but is a tad bright in places. The LP still has the best sound.
Amazing album, somewhat disappointing reissue.......2007-03-03

It didn't take the postmotherhood Ray of Light to prove that Madonna is a big softie; this collection of ballads and slow jams had already done that. Somewhat confused in intention--the scalding ache of "Oh Father," a 1989 song for her own dad, is shoved between the sex of "Rain" and a version of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You"--this is nonetheless a highly listenable album for those who dig Madonna for her music as much as for her cultural significance. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Great effort.......2007-03-18
My biggest qualm with this album is the material that it's missing. In lieu of the double inclusion of "I Want You," I feel one of Madonna's strongest ballads, "The Look of Love" from the Who's That Girl soundtrack, would have been the perfect addition to this album (and as an audiophile I would've loved to own a digitally remastered version).
Other dynamic material missing from this collection includes "Bad Girl," one of the only interesting cuts from Erotica, and "Spanish Eyes" from Like a Prayer, with its noticably pained vocals. Considering the sometimes off-key performance in "Oh Father" that still made it to the final cut, I think the weeping heights of "Spanish Eyes" would have made a more appropriate choice.
As an aside, this is the first CD I ever owned, so I have some bias towards it. Santa brought it for me along with my first CD player and copies of Michael Jackson's "Bad" and "Thriller" on CD in 1995. It was a good Christmas. :)
I Think This Is Madonna's Best Piece Of Work........2006-11-04
I couldnt have imagined it would turn out to be so great, infact A Masterpiece! It Really proved to me that Madonna is not just a pop star.
This album contains her best ballads from 1985 to 1995. Songs like Crazy For You and Live To Tell are very Popular, But other songs like the Powerful You'll See and the Acoustic One More Chance are album versions and they are nothing but Classics!. I'll remember and the #1 This Used to Be My Playground were songs for Movies and are only Featured on this album for Madonna. They are Fantastic too!. Take A Bow is the albums best track in my point of view. This is RECOMMENDED for everyone who like Ballads, You will like it even if you hate Madonna!!!

Greatness shines on this ballad hits collection.......2006-03-27
Track 9 Something to remember is a minor let down. It`s to ordinary in a way, but the singing is great though. Track 10 Forbidden love, is more in the nightclub whisperin` country. It`s soulfull and has a spirit of greatness here and there, but that`s all folks. Track 11 One More chance, it`s the best one of the "new ones". An acoustic interesting song, but it`s very simpel. To simpel, and not speaks out glory. Track 12 Rain, as an inspired opening , and soon changes into, sorry to say lesser inspired middel and the end. But there is something there. Track 13 Oh Father, is a simpel ballad. To simpel, and rather forgetable when it come`s to the end. Too much earcandy in a way. Track 14 I want you ( here we go again with Massive Attack (Orchestral version) Nuff said already, because this is the same song as the first one. Anyway greatness shines on this ballad hits collection, of one of the realy mega artists in pop heaven which always delivers.

26 cuts of "gangsta rap" that only increase in doom when you realize the guy talking it didn't live to laugh about it. Perhaps he now knows the answer to his question, "I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto," which shows up here twice. Shakur, like most hard rappers, liked to sound tough, kicking it with song titles unprintable in a family newspaper. But, underneath the braggadocio, there was fear. "Only Fear of Death," "Nothing to Lose," and "I'm Losin' It" tell a far different story than "Fake Ass Bitches." His artistry could never, however, catch up to the sad fate of his life. --Rob O'ConnorCustomer Reviews:

The Last Great Pac Album.......2006-09-07
Hip Hop.......2006-07-09
R U Still Down is my favorite album by 2Pac. Makaveli and All Eyez are both 5 stars to me, but R U Still Down is more raw. Especially as far as the production is concerned. A lot of people are apparently disappointed by the production on this album. I find it to have a sense of being more genuine, and more fitting than the other posthumous releases. This is probably since Pac actually had some input on creating these tracks. Overall, the sound of the album (and individual tracks) is more whole. Listening to R U Still Down helps to show how much of a project Makaveli and All Eyez On Me were. Those two albums were obviously much more orchestrated and calculated, and designed to provoke in every way. They were much more surgical and precise.
R U Still Down, however, is just straight hip-hop. There's scratching on here! There's no name dropping, or disses aimed at specific people. Just general expression of different emotions. Instead of a song about Tipper Gore or Bad Boy (for example) specificly, you get the more general (and undated) song about the struggles in general with government oppression or social commentary or anger or whatever. This is technically easier for a listener to relate to, since hardly any of us actually know Tipper Gore or Puffy, etc.....but somehow the audience doesn't want that. wtf?
"Thug Style" is probably the single song by Pac to most adhere to the street chronicling and nostalgic waxing scenarios in hip-hop. And at the same time, he's replying directly to everybody giving this album bad reviews: 'you don't know my style.'
Just because All Eyez sounded one way, or Makaveli sounded one way, or Strictly 4 My sounded one way....don't get it twisted. Its art. You gotta be open. Don't expect artists to be how you want them to be. You cannot expect anything from art, all that does is turn it into a product instead of art.
The lyrics on this album are of things more accesible to the common listener. The production is reminiscent of earlier 2Pac and more of a east-coast style of the early 90's (pre-Death Row). There's more lyrical acrobatics than usual (Let Them Thangs Go), and more of the same techincal (Lie to Kick It) and simple formats (F*** All Y'All) we're used to from 2Pac.
If you ignore all the hype and controversy surrounding the artist, and drop your expectations of him...just listen to the music on R U Still Down for the music, then maybe you can re-discover the best MC with this album.
