Product Description
This unique collection brings together three world-class artists who have taken deep life-long journeys into the heart and soul of healing music traditions

Komuso: The Healing Art of Zen Shakuhachi Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin

The Komuso were Zen Buddhist priests who wandered the countryside of Japan playing a particular style of healing flute music called Sui-Zen. Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin studied shakuhachi flute in Kyoto, Japan with Kurahashi Yodo Sebsai and in 1980 he received his Dai Shi-han, or Grand Master’s license. Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin is a modern-day Komuso who has brought peace, balance, and well-being to thousands with this healing repertoire.

Mbira: The Healing Spirit of Zimbabwe Erica Azim

Mbira music has been used by the Shona people of Zimbabwe to heal physical and mental illness for more than a millennium. The spiraling melodic and rhythmic lines draw the listener into a state of meditation, where mind and body find balance, and natural vitality asserts itself. Erica Azim is known in Zimbabwe as a gwenyambira - a skilled performer qualified to play at traditional ceremonies and accepted by the ancient spirits of the Shona.

Orenda: Native American Music to Heal the Spirit Valerie Dee Naranjo

Traditional Native American song is much more than entertainment. It is used to heal maladies of the mind, body, and spirit of the entire community. Valerie Dee Naranjo, M.A., has sung in schools, community centers, and substance abuse clinics on the Navajo reservation. She sang and drummed with the Native American women's group Ulali and has arranged, performed, and recorded with Philip Glass, David Byrne, Selena, Tori Amos, and Hugh Masekela. Valerie currently performs with The Lion King and NBC's Saturday Night Live Band. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Album Description

"Koyasan awed me with its depth while maintaining a constant flow of peace and contemplation. Highest recommendation!" -- NEW AGE REPORTER

"We have been playing Deuter's music now for over twenty-two years. Like the Tao that cannot be spoken, the compositions he orchestrates cannot be easily described in words ... if music can take you to Nirvana, Deuter would be your conductor." -- TRANSITIONS RADIO

"Deuter's style is characterized by gentle melodies and joyful rhythms that render his music accessible even as he presents an intriguing blend of Eastern and Western styles." - ALL MUSIC GUIDE

Latest release from top-selling artist in the new age/Reiki genre. A global mixture of instruments includes Chinese erhu, Japanese shakuhachi flute, East Indian tamboura, and Tibetan singing bowls. Takes the listener on a serene, mystical voyage through a variety of peaceful soundscapes with a relaxed and soothing pace.

5 out of 5 stars Languid meditative excursions.......2007-05-11

With over 60 albums in a nearly 40-year career, you might be forgiven for thinking the artist's best work has already been written and recorded. And in many cases you'd be right. But not so with Deuter. At least not so with this new release, Koyasan.

The German multi-instrumentalist was born on the cusp of a new world, in a small German town in 1945. As a young man, Georg Deuter worked for a brief time as a journalist before a near-fatal car accident lead him on a quest of the spirit and a life devoted to music, a quest that took him to study for many years in India before setting up home and a recording studio in the US southwest.

Deuter is entirely self-taught, an admirable accomplishment when you consider the range of instruments he has mastered. He's most closely identified with the flute, but also plays keyboards, the tamboura (an Indian stringed instrument), cello, koto, and several others. Many of these are used to great effect on Koyasan, named after a sacred Buddhist mountain in central Japan, home to the Shingon sect of esoteric Buddhism and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Except for the title and the presence of instruments associated with Japan, such as the shakuhachi (a bamboo flute) and the koto (a stringed instrument), and more widely with Asia (in this case, the 2-stringed Chinese violin, the erhu), the music on this album is not terribly suggestive of Koyasan. The song titles are generic enough to fit nearly any new age theme you'd care to choose.

But the music . . . the music is sublime. The album features eight tracks, all but two 8 to 9 minute meditative excursions. There is no percussion, nor any noticeable rhythm, just languid journeys built on light and airy ambient washes, puffs of aural clouds through and around which circle the voices of the acoustic instruments. Unlike so many new age productions which work well in the background but can't withstand concentrated listening, Deuter's work, especially on this recording, will reward those who sit and listen attentively.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely healing music..........2007-04-14

From the first time I listened to Koyasan: Reiki Sound Healing it resonated in me. You can't help but close your eyes and breathe deeply. Indeed, this music is so lovely and healing, it feels as if you can breathe it in like a balm for your soul.

5 out of 5 stars painting a soundscape.......2007-03-31

Deuter does it again with his latest release. Koyasan: Reiki Sound Healing is an amazing album, dusted with just the right balance of space, stillness and instrumentation. Deuter paints a vivid scene in the listeners mind. Several clients have shared the images with me and commented on the cd. His orchestration is so well thought out and balanced. The rate, choice of instruments, composition all subtley relax and soothe the client (and practitioner) into a state of meditation. I highly recommend this cd for healing work and meditation.

    5 out of 5 stars Soothing.......2007-07-12

I used various tracks from this CD for a Cub Scout ceremony and it really set the mood..I searched on Amazon for 3 hours trying to find the right drum music and this is certainly it !

4 out of 5 stars Very good new age-native fusion.......2005-06-10

Discount the self-important blather from "professional" drummers and First Nation/Capitolized Ethnic Group people you see here and buy this CD if you enjoy better quality new age music in a native vein. This CD and its highly successful predecessor was NEVER meant to be a hard-core exploration of genuine Native American drumming, flute or chanting, though it masterfully incorporates such music alongside other simple nativist percussion. Yes, persons looking outside the world music (or new age) genres for actual Native chanting and drumming may be disappointed, but it never hurts to open your ears to new things. But if that's too hard and you crave the "real thing," may I suggest Tokeya Inajin, Dik Darnell or Carlos Nakai.

4 out of 5 stars EARTH CENTERED MUSIC.......2005-04-28

I HEARD THIS CD IN A SPIRITUAL SERVICE. I ENJOYED IT! I SEARCH IN THE WEB AND I BOUGHT IT! I LISTEN IT IN THE CAR OR WHEN I WANT TO FEEL MY SELF "EARTH CENTERED". REALLY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR "DRUMS" LIKE IN LATIN MUSIC, MODERN MUSIC, IT ISNT.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SOFT/ACTIVE RELAXING MUSIC, SO THAT YOU CAN FEEL ONE WITH THE EARTH, AND YOU GET FLASH BACK OF OTHER PRIMITIVES TIMES, THIS IS FOR YOU. THAT'S MY EXPERIENCE.

    1 out of 5 stars Indian Welk.......2004-10-18

Although this may sound pleasant to some people I would imagine it's an insult to others. Just another example of the exploitation of the true Americans. It's like there was a Lawrance Welk of native American music only worse. An equivelant might be buying a Metallica cd and hearing Madonna music coming from the speakers. You expected something with some real spirit but you got watered down syrupy bubblegum music instead. It's not the real thing. Besides that I'm a professional drummer, and I'm definitly not impressed with the drumming. But having said that, if you just want some pop music to listen to and delude yourself that your listening to real native American music then this is for you.

It would probably be better to rename it and put a different picture on the cover that would be less insulting to the people it's making a mockery of and more suitable to the disco minded crowd it's apparently trying to foster.

1 out of 5 stars Sacred Spirit Drums.......2004-04-28

My husband is First Nation and has played on traditional Pow Wow drums. The music on this CD seems very contrived. I think it is better to get real First Nation drum music rather than to turn it into this unrecognizable, synthesized and distorted electronic sound. It is being "passed off" as Native. To me it it is not Native. It sounded, well, sorry, but, it sounded tacky. I don't know if Mr. Gordon is First Nation. Some of it even seems to be somewhat African, which would be appropriate if it where meant to be African in nature. But, all in all, it's far to "Hollywood" for me. And we all know how "Hollywood" has mis-informed the world about our First Nation's history. But, I guess the bottom line for the producers of this type of CD is - this stuff sells.
The drum is the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Her heart is not heard with this rendition.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Deuter Tibetan Singing Bowls.......2007-01-03

I enjoyed this album as a great followup to Deuter's earlier singing Tibetan bowls work. I always enjoy his music and have most of his albums over the past 20+ years. This album continues the high quality of spiritually uplifting music that has come to define Deuter.

    5 out of 5 stars Good Vibrations.......2006-07-11

I have a stack of book reviews to write, but I just had to sneak in this little blurb before getting to the ceiling-high pile of books squatting accusingly on my desk: Deuter's "Tibet Nada Himalaya 2" CD on the New Earth label is pure pleasure on the ear drums. The rich thrum of the Tibetan bells and crystal bowls in each of the compositions fills the solar plexus with waves of relaxation, and triggers the production of endorphins. Highly recommended. (Jung's "Man and His Symbols" covers a section on the correlation between the sounds of bells, gongs, bowls, etc., and the resultant formation of mandala-like patterns of energy.)

If you live in a noisy place, or get knotted up with tension because of the insanity of this world, try listening to this CD.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Meditation CD.......2006-01-13

I have dozens of yoga and meditation CDs and this has quickly risen to the top as my favorite. It calms and focuses the mind effortlessly and also creates a harmonious environment even when you're not meditating. All the sounds come from natural sources, mostly Tibetan bells and crystal singing bowls, not a one-dimensional droning synthesizer found on many meditation CDs. Now I understand why the Tibetans have been using these sounds for hundreds of years in their practices. Highly recommended!

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!.......2005-09-08

Having heard traditional chants at Temples and sometimes at home, I was unsure how adding Western musical instruments would sound. Having listened to this CD I now know that it sounds great! This is a beautiful piece of work that I've found uplifting and moving. The artists really seem to have given a part of themselves in creating this, and like other reviewers, I've listened to it repeatedly and still find it mesmerising.

3 out of 5 stars Mantras, the hippie way.......2005-03-17

I was dissapointed with the album. The music was ordinary and reminded me of the "kunbaya"-type of songs from the 60's.... Don't know id they invoke magical healing, but the mantras are rather a cheap boring version of commercialized hippie music.
I am used to listening to true mantras from the masters, and I don't recall any of them being so superficial.

5 out of 5 stars Love this CD!.......2004-08-20

The simplicity and beauty of this music cannot be matched. I listen to it just before I go to sleep. It's the perfect music to lull you into blissful dreams. Buy it and try it. My favorite purchase this year.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2004-01-02

I wished there were more Namaste recordings here on amazon. When I listen to this recording it makes me feel as if I am on vacation, sitting out in nature near a fire with mild refreshing breeze blowing - with a group of close friends, celebrating life and praising the power of creation. Oh, what a wonderful feeling!

    5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2002-02-28

I heard this cd in a yoga class recently and it touched me like none other. Enchanting was a word that was used in one of the reviews and I could note agree more.

I loved the songs with eerie female vocals but could do without the two tunes with male "Hey-ya, Hey-ya" singing.

5 out of 5 stars His Very Best.......2007-01-10

This is my favorite of the many great CD's by Deuter that I own. I find Deuter's music simple, yet evocative and interesting. Garden of the Gods is compelling as well. It isn't so good as "background music" because it grabs your attention so completely. I love the vocal sounds of both people.

    5 out of 5 stars Delicious.......2005-08-31

Garden of the Gods is a spiritual and emotional experience, NOT musical "wallpaper". I teach T'ai Chi Chih which, among other things, is a moving meditation on joy and gratefulness. This beautiful soundtrack with its ethereal vocal and instrumental lines helps us to recognize this sense of joy and build upon it. This is by far my favorite "New Age" CD.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD!!!!.......2004-11-29

This is by FAR my favorite CD in my collection! I use it for meditation and also just when I need a lift. I recommend it highly and hope that others get as much from it as I do. My only problem is that is CD has set the bar that new ones are not messuring up. I would love any suggestions!

    5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!!.......2001-05-18

This is the best cd i own, it takes you to a place beyond reality,it takes you to a garden and beyond, I highly recommend this to anyone who searches for peace in their life, In it's meditative trance you will be under, you will find love .

The chant genre is glutted to epidemic proportions these days, with everyone from Buddhist nuns to Madonna's backup singers intoning Tibetan chants and Hindu kirtans. After six albums, Rasa continue to rise like perfumed smoke above the chanting hordes with their Eastern acoustronica and the enthralling singing of Kim Waters. The Rasa signatures are all there on Saffron Blue: Hans Christian creates a global fusion playing Swedish nyckleharpe, Indian sarangi, cello, electric bass, and synthesizers, orchestrating them across deep throbs of Indian percussion. But it all starts with Kim Waters, intoning Hindu mantras and bhajans in a voice that is both comforting and seductive. Christian builds her up in echoing choirs and canons that just seem to climb higher and higher. But there are some new wrinkles in the sari on Saffron Blue. They bring in a couple of other singers to duet with Waters, providing a contrast of rougher, more traditional sound with Vaiyasaki Das and Bairavesh Das. But even that nod toward tradition is bent through psychedelic echoes, subtle backwards effects, and deft electronic rhythms. Christian even gets a bit of funk slap bass in on the epic 10-minute trance of "Vande Krishna." Rasa don't make your street-corner Krishna sound, nor the easy grooves of ethno-techno chant albums. They've created a chilled-out global chant that speaks in a universal language. --John Diliberto

      Album Description

"Devotional music has never sounded as serene and sensual as it does in the world of Rasa." -- John Diliberto, Echoes

Evokes a sense of passion with stunning performances by four guest vocalists that perfectly juxtapose Waters's exquisite voice and Christian's virtuosic arrangements. The sound of Rasa is unlike anything you've ever heard. Sensual vocals, soaring cello, and sarangi swirls weave a sacred tunic of devotional love songs in Bengali and Sanskrit.

Rasa return with another CD of dream hymns from India. Taking their early cues from the pop arrangements of the 1970 George Harrison-produced hit "Govinda" by the Radha Krsna Temple, they turn Indian bhajans or hymns into often intoxicating entreaties. As on previous discs, Hans Christian creates deeply layered orchestrations of cello, sitar, sarangi (a bowed Indian stringed instrument), electronics, and percussion. That's the pond upon which singer Kim Waters drops her chant melodies in one of those serene voices that descend from the heavens. While other Rasa albums tended toward the slow-trance electronica side of groove, Temple of Love had a dreamier, contemplative sound often free of rhythm. "Jaya Radhe" and "Parama Karuna" follow this path with Waters in a free-float over drones that unfold like colored smoke. But rhythm isn't completely absent. "Doya Koro" and "Om Purnam" have slow, seductive trance pulses that mix loops and Indian hand percussion. However, "Adharam Madhuram" almost heads into ethno-lounge terrain. The title of this album, Temple of Love, refers to the temples of Khajuraho in India, known for their erotic carvings and love stories. Rasa could have provided their perfect soundtrack. These aren't your standard Hare Krishna chants anymore. --John Diliberto

      Album Description

"Inner divinity unveiled! A tantric twist to deep inner peace. Vocals and instrumentals in perfect harmony bring calm, serenity, and a universal connection to what body-mind-soul is all about. Let dreams become reality in every practice - in life!" - Hope Zvara, Yoga Teacher

Rasa's latest release, Temple of Love, blends Hans Christian's excellent meditative and ethereal instrumentation with the achingly beautiful vocals of Kim Waters, creating a distinctive style of classic, yet contemporary, Indian spiritual music. Hans Christian is a classically trained musician originally from Germany. In early adulthood he moved to Los Angeles and quickly became connected in the local music scene. When he met up with Kim Waters in Northern California, they began to develop their own sound that fused her voice with his musicianship. Kim Waters is a distinguished singer and illustrator whose publications include Illuminations from the Bhagavad Gita and The Butter Thief. She has been singing devotional songs of the Vaisnava saints for many years, inspired by the mystical teachings and rich cultural heritage of India. On Temple of Love, Rasa echoes the soothing, hypnotic aspects of Indian spiritual music, adding modern production while maintaining respect for! tradition. Ideal music to facilitate relaxation, meditation, & yoga.

4 out of 5 stars More sinuous, sensual Indian fusion from Rasa.......2006-09-29

This is the gentlest and quietest of Rasa's recordings of Indian devotional songs, and perhaps the one best suited for deep meditation. The tone of "Temple of Love" is a bit more whimsical and spacey than that of previous albums, with more synthesizer ambience and less emphasis on drum beats. Kim Waters' voice glides and croons above a symphony of gentle instrumentals, overdubbed by Hans Christian on a multitude of stringed instruments ranging from cello and Scandinavian nyckleharpa to Indian sitar and sarangi, not to mention keyboards and ethnic percussion. Though unique unto itself, Rasa's music was developing a tendency to all sound the same after a while. This dreamy, laid back album is a welcome departure, with some new modes and melodies, and different orchestrations. That being said, the first track "Jaya Radhe" (while not at all the same as the similarly named "Jaya Radha" from the previous album, "Shelter") does sound very similar to something I remember hearing on an earlier release, but I can't place it. The other songs, however, are fresh and new. For more by Rasa, try "Light and Spirit," Hans Christian's solo venture into the world of Renaissance polyphony, with his unique blend of cello, nyckelharpa and sarangi overdubs in tow. It's an interesting twist on the repertoire!

      5 out of 5 stars A Journey of Transcendence.......2006-06-08

Rasa's latest offering creates the space for the listener to not only transcend universal consciousness but to actually FEEL the the cellular structure relax and align to the memory of Oneness. It's a carefully crafted process - tracks 1-5 set the stage so gently the mind doesn't quite realize what's occurring, track 6 is "lift-off," tracks 7-9 afford the opportunity to live in that state of eternal remembrance. Many, many thanks for sharing this amazing gift, Rasa!

5 out of 5 stars Want to really relax?...then give this gem a try!.......2005-12-02

The effect of sound on the mind and body has been confirmed not only by human experience across the centuries, but in modern times has also been scientifically documented as well.

"Nada Himalaya" contains the AMAZINGLY CALMING sounds of beautifully harmonized, genuine (not electronically-generated) Tibetan bells and chimes on track 1 (30 minutes) and track 2 (15 minutes) - with the tranquil background of a mountain stream added on the third and final track (3 minutes).

After listening to the sound samples below, I decided to give it a try - and must say it's the most relaxing CD conducive to deep meditation I've ever heard, so much so that I've ordered Deuter's sequel CD called "Tibet: Nada Himalaya Vol. 2" hoping it'll be as good as this one is!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for relaxation and healing.......2004-06-08

This CD is amazing - I have lent it to many people and all have reported that it has helped them by relieving them of physical pain during listening. I have used it for getting rid of headaches, and I can actually feel energy moving through my body. It's like a reiki session done through music. Highly recommended.

      4 out of 5 stars Great stuff.......2003-01-07

I discovered Deuter about 10 years ago. I just got the CD and didn't read what it was beyond Deuter's name, so I was really surprised when it was just bells. At first I was disappointed cuz I was expecting something more like Nirvana Road or something. Nope. Just bells. But, I listened to it when I got home and turned it on while I went to sleep. Yeah, now I love going to sleep to it! I only give it 4 stars cuz I was expecting Deuter's keyboard style etc. of music. If I was looking for this style, I'd give it 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Good vibs from these sounds!.......2001-12-24

This is my all time favorite CD to use in meditation. The sounds are soothing and ideal for calming the mind. At the end there is rushing water with tibetan bowls/bells and chimes---It's totally refreshing.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Tibetian Bells..........2001-06-30

I have searched for so long for a cd that would be pure tibetian bells - this is it! The moment it starts it creates a type of serenity that is just impossible to describe. The cd is ALL bells - and Deuter has masterfully recorded, with great sensitivity, these gifts of Spirit. After a long, stressful day - nothing is more relaxing than to sit down and become lost in the sounds of Nada Himalaya. My cat loves it - it doesn't matter where she is in the house, she comes to share the magic of the bells.
