Brierly Street, Sangre Grande, Tel: 1-868-668-3126 The D. Rampersad Indian Art Orchetra (formerly Indian Art Orchestra) was founded by Mr Sewak Gyan (now deceased) in the year 1951 at Guaico, Sangre Grande. This historic event occured at a time when East Indians began to display renewed enthusiasm towards their cultural heritage in Trinidad and Tobago. In the year 1975 the mantle of leadership was taken over the by the youthful and dynamic virtuoso, Teddy Krishna Bissambhar. Thereafter the band gained immense popularity which has already spanned over a period of three (3) decades. During the same year (1975)the band became sponsored by D. Rampersad and Co. Ltd, a well established automotive firm in Trinidad and Tobago. With their moral and financial support, the band was able to acquire some modern equipment which helped it to skyrocked to greater heights in the sphere of Indian culture in Trinidad and Tobago.

Today, the name Teddy Bissambhar has become a household name not only in Trinidad and Tobago, but at a global level. His magical fingers coupled with his limitless knowledge in the artform have ensured the band's No. 1 position in the Country.

The D. Rampersad Art Orchestra has a membership of seven competent musicians and five popular vocalists and presently has some of the most modern Hi-tech equipment available on the world market today. It is notable that the orchestra's musical repertoire is not limited to only indian music, but includes all other types of music as well.

To date, this very popular orchestra is rapidly growing from strength to strength , providing melodious music throughout the length and breadth of Trinidad and Tobago and Internationally, appearing on most of the top local and foreign shows held here, including the very popular television series "Matana Bahar".Alsothey provided music for many charitable events, including functions held by the National Council for Indian Culture (N.C.I.C) POS ,. women's group's Hindi Nidi Foundations, Halfway House under the distinguished patronage of the President of Trinidad and Tobago. Some of the Major achievements over the years include :- (1) 1985,1987 and 1992- Band toured U.S.A and Canada- Performed at "Caribana". (2) 1988 and 1989 - Defeated 21 top orchestras at the Nationwide Orchestra Competition "SAAJ SAMELAN" organised by N.C.I.C and still reigning champions. (3) 1989 - Band performed at "Varnival Expo 89' and at Soca Village alongside Top bands like "Charlie's Roots", "Sound Revolution", "Shandileer" and provided calypos music for Bucks Promotion at Expo '89. (4) 1989 - Band provided musical accompaniment for India's Ace Singer and Musician , "CHARANJIT SINGH". (5) 1990 - Performed at Halfway Houseand Port-of-Spain Women's Group under the distinguished patronage of the President and Prime Minister and other Cabinet Members. (6) 1990 - Composed Test-piece "RAIN BOW" under the astute leadership of Teddy Bissambhar for Pan-Chutney Competion 1990 organised by the Hindi Nidi Foundation and Pan-Trinbago of Trinidad and Tobago,when the Samaroo's Jet Ssteel Orchestra, led by Jit Samaroo was victorious. (7) 1991,1992,1993,1994 - Played music for the very popular Mastana Bahar Television Series and the Indian Cultural Pageant. (8) 1992 - Played music for "PALAIS HINDU" Divali function held in Curacao. (9) 1992 - Band played music for india's renowned "Ghazal" singer, Pamela Singh. (10) 1993 - Band performed live for India's most celebrated Movie Producer and Director, The famous Ramanand Sagar. (11) 1993 - Band performed for "Usha Urtap" - India's populr cabaret singer. (12) 1993 - Performed alongside "Anoop Jalota", India's foremost "Ghazal" singer, organised by the Hindi Nidi Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago. (13) 1993 - Band provided back up music for India's renowned singer,Kumar Sanu at the National Stadium, Port-of-Spain, before an audience of 25,000 Patrons. (14) 1996 - Composed two (2) test pieces for Pan Trinbago for the National Pan-Chutney Competition. (15) 1996 - Provided back up music for the National Chutney-Soca Monarch Competition in Trinidad and Tobago. (16) 1998 - December 8th Released their first CD , C/o Soca Paradise (New York).
