About the Artist
Pure Gold is the definitive project of Mini Records.Originally released as a 3 record set this masterpiece features the songs of Orchestra Nemours Jean-Baptiste the founder of Compas Direct.

The late Nemour is known of the Father of Compas music. The line-up of the musicians includes a group of young musicians and vocalists including lead vocalists Carlo Claudin and Willy Lacroix who performed with Nemour's Super Ensemble Nemour Jean Baptiste, the CD also features Richard Duroseau the accordian player from Nemours first band Aux Calebasses.

The album celebrates the 25th anniversary of Compas Direct and is an absoloute MUST have for lovers of compas and world music.

Does anyone know what is the music from the opening titles of the movie?It is before the song Omiya starts.It is not included in the CD and i'd like to know the title.

I love the movie Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love. Indira Varhma and Sarita Chowdery are very, very beautiful women. And the music in the movie was hott! Especially the song at Princess Tara's wedding where everyone is dancing and Maya is serving the guests in her beautiful red sari. It had a cool beat and I felt like dancing, Indian style!

Love the movie...cinematography is wonderful, a truely beautiful movie, everything is a feast for the eyes. The soundtrack is just as good, perfect blend of exotic music that can be enjoyed lounging around or even bellydanced to.

The songs are sensual, calming, meditative and spiritual. If you appreciate different cultures, this album is for you. Whenever i play this album i turn all the lights out, and light candles, burn incense and meditate. I highly recommend this album with monsoon wedding soundtrack. Everyone i know loves this album. Get it.

Too Short.......2007-06-29

The only downside to this great nostalgic album is that it's too short. There are only 10 songs and they go by as swiftly as the Jamaican wind (sorry about that). Harry Belafonte at his crooning best, dedicating 10 quality rythms (minus the female voice in "My Sweetheart from Venezuela") to Jamaica and in a lesser degree to Venezuela. Buy this album if you want to listen to how people partied in the Latin American 1950's and don't know "nada" of Spanish.

It doesn't receive the full 5 stars because one would think that 50 year-old music would be sold with a discount by now. But that's copyright and a completely different matter.

There is not one track on this album that doesnt force you into a good mood. The catchy beats and uplifting sounds are enough to brighten anyone's day. This album if perfect for any occasion and especially for a summertime party. I cant recommend this album enough. Please hurry up and get it. I promise you wont be sorry.

Great Music, Poor Production.......2004-04-10

This is a great CD with one glaring exception. The reproduction and manufacturing quality is mediocre. I find on listening to the CD that the sound is quite variable. Some songs are so soft that I have to turn up the volume; others are stronger, necessitating turning the volume back down. Terrific music marred by presentation.

Pure Gold!.......2002-09-13

What a great natural performer Harry Belafonte is! The lively, colorful songs of the Caribbean are infectuous with their calypso beat. You want to snap your fingers, clap your hands and join in. Belafonte is in his element when he is telling a story through his music. Never taking himself too seriously, he is able to laugh at being 'taken' by "Matilda," accept the superiority of women with intuitive wisdom in "Man Smart, Woman Smarter," and in the beautiful and more serious "Kingston Market," pay tribute to the day-to-day simple life, lived close to nature, of the Jamaican people. This album is Pure Gold!

I believe that this is his best work ever done. I love how he does different kind of songs that are on this cd. Day-O/ or commonly knowen as the banana boat song is one that eveyone knows by heart. Which is good to be able to know that you are getting a cd that you will like

Some of the songs on this CD, do NOT sound like the original recordings. Also, sounds a little TINNY to me. Nice to have all these songs on one (1) CD, but could have been a better quality recording.

MANY 50's 60's AND 70' REUNIONS HAVE BEEN PLAYED WITH NOTHING MORE THAN A FEW OLDIES COMPILATIONS AND THIS ONE IS AT THE VERY TOP. Why not just release Gold Records Vol 5 instead?.......2006-09-16

I am not sure why RCA released this album in the early 70's? They had already released 4 volumes of Elvis' Gold Records and had plenty of material for a volume 5 (which would not be released until the 1980's). If they had included some of his later hits instead of the 50's material that were already available on Gold Records Vol 1 or 2, this probably would have been a big hit and sold much better! Or if they had wanted to do a career spanning greatest hits package, why not produce a high quality double album set similar to the Beatles Red or Blue albums, instead of putting out this cheap package designed to make a quick buck with as little expense as possible? This is just another expample of how badly managed Elvis' career was. Think of how much better his career might have been with some decent management and direction!

The songs that are here are good, but this CD has become obsolete. Pass on this and buy Elv1s 30 Number 1 Hits instead. This is only for hardcore fans that want to own everything Elvis ever released.

Great Music For The Elvis Fan.......2003-03-19

I gave the album a 4 because of the horrible album cover. Did Elvis just walk off the set of Planet Of The Apes when this photo was snapped? I didn't know he guest starred on the show! Roddy McDowell would be proud with the look Elvis has got going on this album cover! The album is classic Elvis and is great (As long as you can keep your lunch down by not looking at the cover!)

A Collection True to Its Title.......2002-04-13

"Pure Gold" is a perfect choice if you're looking to buy just one Elvis CD. This collection has a great mix of some of his most well known hits ("Jailhouse Rock", "Don't Be Cruel", "All Shook Up", "Love Me Tender") combined with songs that hint at Elvis' other flavors, like "Kentucky Rain", which leans toward his Southern side, the mellow and jazzy "Fever", and the haunting ballad, "In The Ghetto".

If you're looking for the ultimate collection of all of Elvis' big hits, though, this album might be a good start for you but will probably fall short.

great compilation.......2005-06-29

There's not enuff info I can say about but it's only 10 tracks to this disc. I'll just wondering, don't get me wrong, this coulda have enuff songs or tracks to this albums, maybe 10, 15 or 16 or would've this was an anthology or actually a ultimate collection like they do on most compilations from similar artists.

This is pretty good but all the songs are beautiful incl. my favorite of all-time "Moment to Moment" b/c that's a most relaxable song to listen and to play on my trumpet also. Other songs I like which are most outstanding are "The Pink Panther" (which I play w/ my high school band), "Mr. Lucky", "Baby Elephant Walk", "Peter Gunn" (that's a bad song), "Charade (Vocal)", "Days of Wine and Roses" (I luv this song so much and mostly I luv singing and/or playing on it), just to name a few.

This is not a bad CD at all but coulda been better. 'Nuff said.

Mancini Music Goes Down Easy On This Gold Sampler.......2000-03-28

RCA Victor's "Pure Gold" reissues were among the weakest sets the label produced; generally, a few major hits were joined with obscure album tracks with no sense of chronology or style. But this "Pure Gold" set from legendary film composer Henry Mancini provides a great primer to one of the most honored careers in music.

Amazing even in this short set how many major Hollywood stars and productions Mancini was associated with: Audrey Hepburn (represented here by the themes to "Charade" and "Moon River") the Pink Panther (that legendary sly theme), and even Liz Taylor (the sweet "Baby Elephant Walk" from "Hatari.") Much of the slower, waltz-oriented material is easy listening slush, indicating why performers such as Andy Williams often charted better with Mancini songs (the exception being 1958's "Peter Gunn" soundtrack and 1969's #1 "Theme From Romeo & Juliet.").

Some songs are missing: his Top 20 theme from "Love Story," his theme from NBC's "Mystery Movie." But what's here provides a cursory look at Mancini's uniquely American TV and film composing style. Recommended.
