This is a hauntingly beautiful CD to put you in a relaxed and peaceful state. It is chant, hum and groove. Even my teenage nephews get quiet and meditative when it's playing in the car!

Being Indian I started on this CD with trepidation, expecting a western pop version of indian chants. But Deva produces an authentic bhakti experience and dissolved my fear. Her music, though somewhat different from my past Indian experience, blissfully conveys the Spirit that are the words themselves. In India it is said that if one has bhakti in the heart then the singing of and about the Names will convey the inhernt bliss, irrespective of all else.
Listen to this CD and feel the bliss.

I think this is one of Deva's best...her voice, the music are all deeply moving and wonderful...there are solemm pieces and also joyful ones that literally make me dance! Lots of drumming and even a little jazzy at times...I could listen to this CD over and over again and I never tire of it!!

Disappointing.......2006-06-08

I found this disc disappointing compared to Deva's brilliant first CD entitled The Essence - which is a must have. What seems strange to me is that she is on the inside cover touching Buddha's chest, while the first track sounds like make-out music. Hmmmm.... For what it's worth, an Indian Brahmin confirmed that some of the mantras are concoctions, too, which does not really set a good precedent. People copy Deva's chanting in their kirtans and in this respect her work is influential. Although being innovative can be commendable, spiritual traditional chants are, in my opinion, off limits for whimsical changes. I wish she would get her mantras from reliable sources in the future.

Hard core Deva fans won't notice, of course, and will love this.

Dear Customers,

Thank you for sharing these wonderful arrangements. Cave of the Siddhars. Your music is instantly translated into soul messages. Musical soul massage. I don't know if it was my conscious mind or my unconscious mind but one of them surrendered to the music thanks to the constant didgeridoo in the background. My mind remembered a timeless aspect of itself. Turiya Nada's music that for the first few seconds had sounded extremely exotic fit into the mold of my being, as a result when I combined the music with asana practice I was able to deepen in the poses knowing that I was being "cushioned" by the call of Turiya Nada. The final "Arohara" invocations of the final tracks are perfect for the ending of savasana for me...and I believe for others too.

Cave of the Siddhars CD entered my life back in May of 2006. Since then I have listened to it every day at least once. The blending of instruments and Nandhi's voice are amazing. Love it !! The resonance and high vibrational energies seem to awaken and stir ancient memories of knowingness within my being. At the same time bringing a sense of immense peace and joy. While her last CD, Dakshina, had a bit more of a pop-Enyaesque sensibility, Moola Mantra is a much more meditative affair as Premal sings a single, 15-word Sanskrit mantra over the course of six lushly smooth Indian fusion arrangements. The disc is something of a mantra super session, with kirtan crooner Jai Uttal playing dotar, Nepalese bansuri flute player Manose, pianist Kit Walker, sitarist Peter Van Gelder (who played with Grace Slick and the Great Society) and esraj player Benjy Wertheimer. They're among the ensemble providing the patchouli-scented ornamentations that surround Premal's serene voice. With producer Ben Leinbach's detailed arrangements and Premal's overdubbed vocal choirs, Moola Mantra recalls similar Hindu adaptations by Rasa more than any other Premal CD. Like Rasa's Hans Christian, Leinbach is a capable multi-instrumentalist with a gift for trance grooves that don't tire and evocative instrumental touches like the tremolo guitar bleeding into Uttal's dotar solo on "Part II." The music is a languid float down an endless stream, but the repetition of the mantra, even with inventive melodic variation, can get tiresome. These timeless mantras invoke different aspects of the divine as represented in the Hindu mythology..."

This introductory note in DANCING WITH SIVA is applicable to all mantra music (a popular genre that continues to evolve with the fusion of Western elements.)

Baba Sri Siva introduces the 12 songs on the CD & he is also the lead vocalist. The introductions are brief & to the point. The feeling he conveys is that he is acting as your personal guru, guiding the listener through each mantra. He has a very pleasant singing voice.

Among other fantastic things, Sri Siva claims the mantras have the ability to solve personal problems ranging from "karma busting" to eliminating credit card debt! Well, we're not going there in this brief overview. The bottom line is that the CD is immensely enjoyable.

The mantra JOTI that is geared to stimulate compassion of Siva is beautiful & goes right to the heart chakra.

KLEEM (karma bursting) absolutely ROCKS OUT!

From the 100 + mantra CDs in my collection, I always return to DANCING WITH SIVA again & again.

one man's ceiling is another man's floor.......2006-06-06

i enjoy global beat world music (whatever that means), and have collected a fair amount of it. after reading the favorable reviews for this recording, i enthusiastically ordered it. i just listened to it and was very disappointed. perhaps i missed something, but as a musician, i found the musical renderings of these mantras mostly trite. there were a couple of moments that showed promise, but it quickly fell into banality. for my taste, there was too much electronic instrumentation used without much of a demonstration of experience. electronic instrumentation can be used to good effect, but i longed for more ethnic, real instruments with a little enhancement from electronic sound. i did not even have enough interest to pinpoint where those good moments were. listen to gifted mixologist dj cheb i sabbah or russill paul if you want this type of ilk--and without the comments at the beginning of each track. there really should be a warning that there is information verbally conveyed at the beginning of each track. for those individuals who wish to incorporate the mantras in some way, i suppose it might be inspiring. however, musically it falls flat. but, depending on your taste, and your purpose, this recording might be for you. for people who have experienced a fair amount of excellent world music fusions, and have refined their tastes, this would most likely be a huge disappointment--save your money!

Baba Sri Siva hits a home run... this is a great album with a lot of funky techno beats put to traditional mantras like trayambakam, arut perum jyoti and mantras new to me like one to Muruga called Aum Saum Saravanabavaya.I love listening to this innovative album combining tradition with techno beats. it lifts my mood in the morning while driving, especially in traffic, and is a welcome change to the negative repettive drudgery foudn on typical radio stations. I highly recommend this album to anyone just to try something new and different. definitely this would be a treat to people into meditative yoga who also like modern techno beats. Siva Baba breaks through limiting conceps once again...

Fun and Unusual Combo of Mantra & Techno Beat.......2004-12-18

I stumbled upon a number of cuts from the "Dancing with Siva" CD in the free music download section of Amazon and was immediately intrigued by the combination of mantra with an edgy world/techno sound. This isn't your typical soft, soothing, chanting CD - and that's what I love about it. At first, I fell in love with "Triumbakum" and "Sharaba", but after a few plays, I can't really say I have one favorite in particular. "Vasi", "Saravanabavaya", "Kleem", "Sharaba"... Who can choose?! They're all great. To me, the music itself is hypnotic and engaging; so if you're not a fan of mantra music, the mantras seem almost secondary. If you want a musical style comparison, one could sort of be made to Bhagavan Das' "Now".

Really Neat!.......2004-01-09

The techno/re-mixing on this CD took me aback at first, mixed so with the Holy Mantras. I wasn't sure about that. But as I listened deeply, I saw that each one was perfect for each mantra-song. In particular, the Lakshmi (Shreem) mantra-song is quite beautiful, along with Ganesh, the Sun mantra (Gayatri), & Joti. All lovely and unique! The music accompanying the Pavarti's (Kleem) mantra is a bit too edgy and sharp. The whole idea of Westernizing these Holy Mantras so they get into the American consciousness is a GREAT idea, and couldn't come at a better time. Highly recommended.

A Must Have.......2001-07-21

I have practice Kundalini Yoga for eight years. And this CD contains all (well, most of the essential ones) the music and mantra. As a new Kundalini Yoga teacher, this certainly comes in handy that I can share in the class. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of publishing this CD.

Hosianna Mantra has finally been remastered with sparkeling and sharp sound quality. The bonus track Maria (Ave Maria) was recorded at the same time as Hosianna Mantra (1973) and is considered to be Popol Vuh's poetic album. A beautiful album and a beautiful bonus track.

Among the many German musicians who in the 1970s "traveled" (in person or just spiritually) to India and the Far East and absorbed Eastern spirituality in the format of western music, Florian Fricke is likely to be the greatest. His work has been a constant exploration of the same theme: how to express the most personal, profound, austere spirituality by the means of western classical music, western sacred music and profane rock music. It was a marriage of East and West, and a marriage of past and present, made on Earth. In fact, it was made in Germany, and it bears the stigmata of German history. Almost inevitably, Fricke ended up denying the fundamental tenet of German music of his age: electronics. The humble, peaceful tones of acoustic instruments served his purpose better than the majestic complexity of synthesizers and sequencers.
In 1972 Fricke converted to both Christianity and Hinduism, and decided to move even further away from electronic instruments, preferring the most humble acoustic instruments over high-tech devices. A new line-up, centered around the angelic wails of Korean soprano Djong Yun, recorded Hosianna Mantra (Pilz, january 1973) in a Buddhist meditative tone, showing a solemn and elegant way to bridge the Western mass and Eastern meditation. Fricke on keyboards, Amon Duul II's guitarist Conny Veit, Between's Robert Eliscu on oboe, Fritz Sonnleitner on violino, Klaus Wiese on tambouras build up ascetic atmospheres that catapult the listener into Tibetan or Gregorian monasteries. Most of the interplay is between the piano (tenderly caressed by Fricke) and the guitar (whose phrasing simulates the Indian mantras). The other instruments add evocative power to the music, rarely altering the flow, in a manner similar to renaissance music. The key difference between this music and classical or rock music is the repudiation of rhythm: Tangerine Dream was removing rhythm (i.e., Time) from its cosmic soundpainting, and Popol Vuh removed rhythm (i.e., Time) from its spiritual soundpainting.

Awesome CD.......2006-04-06

There are parts of this CD that qualify as the most moving music I've ever heard, specifically, parts of Track 2. You've probably got to love kirtan and Wah! to feel as enthusiastic as I do, but even if you're only curious and interested in learning more about this type of hindu/chanting/music, this is the one album I would recommend as a great first place to start.

Listening to this CD in the hope of going into a meditative space will prove disappointing unless one is fascinated by the wailing and quivering male voice repeating the mantra over and over again in less than precise diction. The only thing that deserves one star here is the background music where the voice is still present but muted.

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful!.......2005-08-30

This CD is by far the best CD available in the meditation music market. Most of the other CDs have several tracks, thereby breaking the flow of one's meditation. Dhyana Mantra has just 2 tracks of 21 min each. The length of each track is just perfect for going into deep states of meditation. As always, expereinces are better than my discription. Anyone who tries this CD will find it truely amazing and will also experience the deep meditative state that I have been enjoying. Just try it and see!!

Inspired by Popol Vuh and originally released in a tiny pressing of 550 on vinyl from the inimitable Acid Mothers Temple frontman. Guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and leader of Acid Mothers Temple, Kawabata Makoto expresses all his mantric cosmical vocations and spins them into space sonorities! He took inspiration from the Popol Vuh album Hosianna Mantra during his visit to A Silent Place headquarters in late Winter 2006. A few days later, back in Japan, Makoto recorded the Hosanna Mantra album at the Acid Mothers Temple between March 12th and 13th using electric guitar, bouzouki, and sitar.
