un magnìfico grupo de musica popular. Rascan en las raices de sus tradiciones para cantar de manera muy contemporànea la visiòn de su momento històrico.
Rock servo-croata de magnìfica factura, principalmente hasta su producciòn Bitanga i Princeza, despuès decaen y se vuelven autocomplacientes, perdiendo toda esa fuerza que les caracterizò anteriormente.

Early 70es rock with a touch balkan folk.......2002-12-23

Bijelo Dugme (White Button) was landmark rock band in former Yugoslavia. The music is original blend of classic 70es rock (electric guitar and organ) with balkan folk. They did it long before world music became popular.

You will find that some of the songs were rewriten by Bregovic later and used in many of his soundtracks and later albums. These songs are not here, but some examples: Djurdjevdan became Ederlezi, Hajdemo u planine became TV screen (arisona dream soundtrack), etc. If you are a music freak, you would want to hear the original versions, which were local hits, of his later world hits. It was as Bregovic was practising for his global career with same songs in micro world of Yugoslavia. Pity that those songs didn't make it to this compilation. Croatia Records has copyright for his early work and they did republish most of their albums on CDs few years back, including this compilation.

This is not a collection of my favourites, but some of them made it onto the compilation: Selma, Bitanga I Princeza, Uspavanka Za Radmilu M, etc. Compilation Vol 2, also avalible from amazon(.com) compliments this record nicely. For later work, which made it into soundtracks and bregovic solo albums, see "Ima neka tajna veza", currently unavalible on Amazon(.com), but sold on many sites.
