T.I. may take alter-egotism to new heights on T.I. vs. T.I.P., an album that's essentially a spinoff of a song (Trap Muzik's psychologically charged "T.I. vs. T.I.P."), but few artists have been known to spin something so compelling out of a concept so silly. T.I.P. is the hoodie-wearing hustler we get to know in the first part of this exceptionally long disc--he curses and boasts behind the beats with a lazy bravado that manages to be both slouchy and sharp (check out "Da Dopeman," "Watch What You Say" featuring a fired-up Jay-Z, and "You Know What It is," with Wyclef), and T.I. is the right-minded tycoon-type who takes over for a while in act two. As smooth an operator as T.I. is--"Show It to Me," featuring Nelly, finds its groove and never lets up--he's more compelling in the grittier parts of the disc, including a four-song final act in which the two halves of his deeply divided personality square off. "Respect This Hustle," the M.C. commands on the next-to-last track; detractors will try not to, citing the slightness of his concept. T.I. is at the top of his game, though, and he makes it heard. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars The King Is Back Again!.......2007-07-20

TI does it again. This album is hot. The lyrics are consistently nice and the beats are all bangers. The content is a real take on the street life and what goes on in the rap industry. And the break down was nice too. He gives each alter ego a chance to do their thing and then mixes it up in the end. There is not one bad song on the album, its one of those that you can play all the way through. Even the skits are well done and add some substance to the album. They do a great job of showing the "conflict" of TI. Overall, Id definitely say this album is a must have. The best rap album out so far this Summer. Hot Tracks: Raw, Touch Down, Tell Em I Said That

no matter what name or alter ego T.I. goes by or does, he just doesn't have the rapping skills to pull off the type of undertakings he aspires to. thus far in his career beats and Production have moved me far more than what T.I. has put out. he is conssitant with staying to a formula that has worked and I don't expect him to change anytime soon. despite name Artists and Producers on board here this Album is just aight. he is the "IT" Cat of the moment in Rap with Films,Endoresements,tv,(Espn plays his songs)etc... but on his albums i just don't get all the hype. neither Person on this album sounds that much different from the other.

5 out of 5 stars You know what it is!.......2007-07-16

I am not the biggest fan of the current state of hiphop in fact i rarely by new cd's or even bootleg them. I am one of thost that agrees that this is the hiphop is dead era. But, every now and then you get a quality rap cd. I am a T.I fan more of a TIP fan but they are the same guy a least I think they are. Anyway my credibility may be shot by that statement but this is a good pop rap cd. Notice I said pop rap cd, not hiphop. I won't bore you with the three acts the cd is divided into that has already been done. I found it interesting to listen to the two alter egos do battle in the music. I also thought is was cool that T.I went back to his old style of rapping. Most artist when they make it they say by by to what they did before. So you get a more hardcore syle and the bragging thing that every rapper does today. Some of my favorite tracks are you know what it is, help on the way, we do this. Help on the way has these cathedral style organs playing that gives it a very dramatic affect easily the best song on the cd. We do this has a more futuristic/new wave sound from the 80's. When I hear that track it makes me think of what Kanye West new sound is suppose to be. Listen to it, it has those sci fi keyboards that Mr. West claims will make his new album sound like 2080 something. That was off the subject easily one of the best if not the best rap album this year. I would give it 4 1/2 stars but I liked it so much a gave it five. Also check out if you haven't heard T.I "I'm Serious" if you like the TIP style

4 out of 5 stars TI vs TIP, cool but not as good as king.......2007-07-14

TI is indeed one of the top rappers in the south along with lil wayne. Im a TI fan. I got all 5 of his cd's, but this ain't his best offering. That would go to trap muzik. Some tight cuts on here include dopeman, my type, you know what it is, hurt, watch what you say to me, help is coming, the 1st act with TIP and the 2nd act with TI even though they were both interludes. Touchdown was straight, but a collaboration with eminem, i'd thought it would have been hotter. Big thangs poppin was alright, but not even close to his best 1st single. If you want good southern rap or a TI fan, then cop it, but if you are new to TI then cop trap muzik or im serious first.

Wayne truely is the best rapper alive he can take anyones beats and make them his own..... Like he once said "i can say don't rhyme and it rhyme" he's right..... this cd is dope and i would suggest it to anyone who likes Lil Wayne

5 out of 5 stars Very Impressive.......2007-05-24

Lil Wayne Is in my opinion, the king of mixtapes right now. He is avereging about 1 mixtape every three months. This Mixtape is Awesome. Alot of his other mixtapes have people from his record label, and you only get to hear Weezy on one of the verses. However, on this mixtape he does it mainly by himself. This is more like a full cd or two. Great punchlines, I had to rewind a couple of times because I was dumb founded. Definitely worth the buy. Cant wait for his next mixtape!

Very good quality reproduction, and enjoyable to listen to the full length movie soundtrack again.

4 out of 5 stars MacRae and Jones head a superb and O.K. adaptation.......2007-03-16

The film adaptation of Oklahoma heralded a technological breakthrough in widescreen cinema just as the original stage musical ushered in the integrated book musical. As such this film adaptation was treated as a special occasion, well-supervised by the creators themselves. The soundtrack, featured here, boasts sterling performances from MacRae and Jones making the most of their portrayals of Curly and Laurey, backed by a charismatic cast and superb orchestrations. And of course let's not forget the enveloping stereo sound that holds up well even today.

Despite being a Hollywood star, Gordon MacRae performs the part of Curly as if he was born to play it even on the stage. He shines vocally in his renditions of Oh, what a Beautiful Mornin' and Surrey with the Fringe on Top. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones as a fresh and pert Laurey, lending her beautiful voice to the part. Although we don't hear much of her on this soundtrack, her partnering MacRae in People Will Say We're in Love exudes a masterful chemistry, as if they were setting sparks off at each other in their rendition of the song. Gene Nelson makes a dashing Will Parker and is equally well-matched by Gloria Grahame as Ado Annie. Grahame renders I Cain't Say No splendidly and partners Nelson in All er Nothin'. The supporting cast is filled out by Charlotte Greenwood's suitably caustic Aunt Eller and Rod Steiger's Jud. It's a pity that the film cut the song Lonely Room, otherwise Steiger would have better demonstrated the dark hues of the character of Jud. Yet it all adds up to a wonderful renditionh of this classic musical, enough to elicit a spontaneous YEOW! during this year of the Oklahoma centenary.

This EMI-Angel reissue offers one the advantage of the dance music and the main titles. This means that the listener gets the Kansas City and Farmer and the Cowman dance sequences, as well as the extended Dream Ballet. The only downside is the extraneous sound effects lifted from a DVD copy of the movie. Yes I share many of your sentiments that these sound effects tend to grate, and long for Didier Deutsch to have used the original untainted studio vault versions. However, let's at least be thankful that the CD producers have offered us a more comprehensive version of the Oklahoma soundtrack that we could only have dreamt of in the past.

In short, this is a wonderful and valuable addition to the R&H discography, and is an equally celebrated rendition of the score like the original Broadway cast recording. Warmly recommended to those who seek even their first version of Oklahoma.

5 out of 5 stars Broadway in a movie setting at it's very best!.......2007-03-06

I have the original Broadway version, but prefer this movie selection.
The CD is flawless and, in my opinion, there's nothing better than a Rodgers
and Hammerstein musical for music, lyrics and pure joy! This is the best!

If you are a Paul Simon fan this is the collection to have!! It has all of the great hits. I am very happy with this purchase. My husband & I trade it back & forth. Everytime I look for it it is in his car CD player. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Worthy Purchase.......2006-11-25

I think Paul Simon is an underrated artist. This ensemble is reflective of his ability to create music of different flavors such as Reggae ("Mother and Child Reunion" that could easily be a Bob Marley song) and A capella ("Adios Hermanos").

I got this CD because of "You can call me Al", heard the other tracks and was blown away. Notable tracks include "Mother And Child Reunion", "Adios Hermanos" - (that is based on the true story of the Capeman Murders. For more on the Capeman Murders, google "Salvador Agron"), "Spirit Voices" and "Late in the Evening".

Worthy purchase

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable.......2006-08-22

Paul Simon has a great range of styles. Sure he is labeled folk music but in his many travels he has picked up different styles of music and infused them with his own style and you get a taste of this in the CD "The Paul Simon Collection: On My Way, Don't Know Where I'm Goin.'"

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection marred only by some missing tracks still a great single disc collection of Simon's best.......2006-08-15

There's no way a "Best of" can be perfect. Fans are always going to disagree about what's missing or what great song didn't make the album. Overall this collection gets it right more often than wrong unlike the two previous "Best of" collections that Simon has put together.

We get two of the strongest tracks from Simon's first album and they were singles as well. "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" both demonstrate that Simon was making World Music long before the term was created. "Kodachrome" and "Loves Me Like a Rock" were strong singles from Simon's second album and they are aided by a wistful ballad "Something So Right" covered by Annie Lennox which is probably why it was included. "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "Still Crazy After All These Years" were highlights from Simon's third solo album. Missing in action is "My Little Town" a Simon & Garfunkel "reunion" single that both men put on their respective albums. It still should be here as it's a great song.

Although "One Trick Pony" isn't Simon's best album is one or two omissions ("How the Heart Approaches What It Yearns", "Oh Marion") that should have been included from that album besides the brilliant "Late in the Evening". "Slip Slidin' Away" is from Simon's first collection "Greatest Hits, Etc". What's missing here is the brilliant "Stranded in a Limousine" (which incidently DOES show up as a bonus track on "One Trick Pony"). All definitely deserve to be here. Really this should have been a full two disc set with the live tracks thrown on to the second CD with these other tracks.

We get the powerful "Hearts and Bones" the title track from Simon's fourth solo album (fifth if you count the Paul Simon Songbook a collection of S&G songs he recorded before the duo broke through)but I miss "Allergies" which, from what I recall, was a single. The brilliant "Graceland" is well represented with "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes", "The Boy in the Bubble", "Graceland" and "You Can Call Me Al" all strong songs that got considerable airplay. The selections from "Rhythm of the Saints" is perfect except for the single "The Obvious Child" which seemed like an obvious inclusion on this set.

We close out the album with "Adios Hermanos" from "Songs from the Caveman" and two tunes from Simon's "The One". Both are solid selections overall. Early editions of this terrific album come with a second disc with live tracks featuring "American Tune", "Duncan","The Coast", "Mrs. Robinson" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" live.

"Shining Like a National Guitar" features "The Obvious Child" if you want that track as well as "Bernadette", "Take Me To the Madrdi Gras", "Trailways Bus", "Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their God After the War" all of which aren't collected here. That album is missing some great material that's included here so, again, between those tracks the ones I mentioned and the live tracks we could have had a perfect "Best of". There is also a two disc "Best of" available as an important which I'd recommend. It digs into the Simon & Garfunkel catalog as well making it, aside from the boxed set, the single set with the most depth (although it lacks anything from Simon's last two albums).

Despite these minor flaws this is probably the best single collection of Simon's best songs available and very generous at that. Definitely worth picking up particularly if you want an album that has the bulk of his best album tracks and single all together in one spot.

5 out of 5 stars Yet Another Paul Simon Anthology.......2006-07-15

Since I already own the (overpriced but good) Paul Simon CD box set--and most of his solo recordings prior to Graceland, in their recently reissued form--I'm not sure if there's any point in getting this.

I wonder, though, about that five-track bonus disc. Is the live version of "American Tune" the same one which appeared on a briefly-available "best of" collection from Simon called "Greatest Hits etc.", which was primarily noteworthy for its inclusion of the track (not available elsewhere, so far as I know) "Stranded In a Limousine"? I always liked that version of "American Tune" better than either the studio version, or the live version from "Live Rhymin'".

But the (even more briefly-available) CD of "Greatest Hits etc." sounds terrible--as do most CDs from the early digital era. (Nothing especially bad about this release in particular: producers, engineers and presssing plants just didn't know how to make good CDs yet.)

If it IS that version, in a better-mastered form: that alone would likely be reason enough for me to buy yet another Simon collection. In the meantime, I'm more likely to spend my money on something new like Surprise.

Five stars because any collection of Paul Simon songs is bound to be good, even though I personally might not need it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for wedding planners.......2007-04-05

I work regularly with people planning church weddings who want the service to be dignified, traditional and formal. Often they have "ear memory" of music they've heard in other weddings, but no idea about its composer or title. This CD is the best compilation I've found of music that fits those requirements. 4 out of 5 stars Preview your wedding day.......2006-08-14

This CD was inexpensive, and provided a great way to preview songs for my wedding. The CD had a good song selection. My fiance and I were able to get a better idea of how the songs would be at our wedding. Definitely an inexpensive tool that is worthwhile.

My daughter had to move her wedding 3 weeks before the event and the music she had arranged could not be there. I purchased this CD and we were thrilled with the price, the selections on the cd and how quickly it arrived. Thanks for providing the music for a beautiful wedding.

Although it's based on the 1967 movie of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie is almost thoroughly new. Composer Jeanine Tesori (Violet) and lyricist Dick Scanlan wrote a whole batch of songs, while retaining a couple from the movie--including the Jimmy van Heusen-Sammy Cahn title tune--and recycling even older material (look for Victor Herbert's "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" and the inventively arranged "Nuttycracker Suite"). Miraculously, the show, set during the jazz age, doesn't feel stitched together, and Tesori does a great job cranking out swinging melodies. Sutton Foster is appropriately brassy as Millie, but she can also tone it down, as in the beginning of "Gimme Gimme" (of course, she then proceeds to project up to the last rafters as the song builds to its climax). Harriet Harris, as nasty Mrs. Meers, steals the show with "They Don't Know." Close your eyes, listen to her, and you'll be back in Broadway's golden age. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Musical, But Product Quality - Eh.......2007-07-15

I absolutely love the musical so I'm thrilled with the cd.

My problem was not with the quality of the cd, but with the plastic case. The cd cases always come cracked. Although it doesn't affect the quality of the cd itself, it's rather disheartening that Amazon charges customers for its poor shipping.

5 out of 5 stars MODERNIZE your music collection!!!.......2007-07-13

This is an AMAZING musical and great album. It is sure to jazz-up any music collection! BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!

5 out of 5 stars A must to add to your collection.......2007-05-18

I was very fortunate enough to see this on Broadway. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen! The music has just enough jazz and contemporary vive that any musical lover would enjoy! It's also got tapping in it! Sutton is simply awesome in this role and all of the cast can really belt out their songs. Harriet Harris is phenominal in her role as Mrs. Meers. I highly recommend this to all broadway lovers! It's one to add to your collection!

5 out of 5 stars Delightful.......2006-06-12

The music takes a little bit to grow on you, but boy, does it! It's wonderful, charming, romantic, funny--just like the play itself. I loved almost every song and I was really impressed with "Long As I'm Here With You"-- I thought it was an old song written back in the twenties, because it so sounded like one. The cast is absolutely energetic and endearing, and Sutton Foster just *rocks*. Definitely worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars YOU WILL LOVE IT.......2006-02-17

If you like musicals, you will NOT REGRET purchasing this musical soundtrack. JUST DO IT. It's so great, you will be listening to it forever. I also saw the show at the Kennedy Center in D.C. and it's one of the best I've ever seen. (And I've seen A LOT.)

Have Fun!

Andrea Bocelli's Sogno ("Dream") is a pop album of entirely original compositions that evoke traditional and modern influences. Bocelli himself describes the CD as secular Italian traditional melodic music with a contemporary twist. The album's 14 tracks include "The Prayer," a Bocelli and Celine Dion duet produced by David Foster; "Come un Fiume Tu," an intriguing collaboration with soundtrack maestro Ennio Morricone; "O Mare e Tu," a duet with Dulce Pontes; and "Sogno" (the first single excerpted from the album), a light-as-a-feather, emotional composition sung by Bocelli with his typical vocal emphasis, which has made him famous around the world since the release of his self-titled debut. --Ernesto De Pascale

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

5 out of 5 stars Deja Vu.......2006-02-17

Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

Amazon.com essential recording

Sarah Brightman's career was launched by her success in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, so it's no surprise to hear the soprano paying homage to the composer on this disc. Really a Brightman best-of, the album includes the Phantom theme (a duet with Michael Crawford), the light-opera fare of "Chanson D'enfance" from Aspects of Love, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" from Evita, and numerous other Lloyd Webber classics. Throughout, Brightman's diminutive voice lends a fragility to these musical theater tunes that you'll either love or despise. On Evita's "Another Suitcase, Another Hall" and Cats' "Memory," she literally chirps through the vocal lines. No matter. The growing legion of Brightman fans wouldn't have it any other way. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection.......2007-01-05

Sarah Brightman has always been a favorite of mine, and this CD is outstanding. The duet with Jose Carreras (Friends for Life) is especially good--worth buying the CD for that song alone.

5 out of 5 stars The Best You'll See from Sarah.......2006-09-09

This CD is - wow! I have so much to say about it and so little time! This album features three pieces from "The Phantom of the Opera" - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, The Music of the Night, and The Phantom of the Opera theme. They're all beautiful. The second piece on the album is "Unexpected Song". It has beautiful octaves and orchastrations. Chanson d'Efance is an amazing French piece with vibrato - and then some. I forgot to mention that there is another piece from The Phantom of the Opera - All I Ask of You - except that the song is not sung by the original cast from the musical. The next few pieces are fairly decent, until you get to Memory from Cats. WOW - is it spectacular! Then we get to two other pieces from Cats - Gus: The Theater Cat and Macavity: The Mystery Cat. Gus is a song that just tells about a cat and his history. A man speaks the lines that Gus would say in the actual musical - and it makes the song interesting. Macavity is AWESOME! I know that I said that I didn't prefer this song for Brightman on her album "Surrender". I finally listened to it more carefully, and found that it's really interesting to listen to! My favorite song on the whole entire album - however - has to be "Tell Me on a Sunday". Beautiful lyrics, orchestrations, and overall spectacular voice talent ties the whole song together. Pie Jesu is a fairly nice piece from both Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston - the 16 year old boy soprano. His voice is pure and straight with minimal vibrato. However, Brightman's voice shows a little bit TOO much vibrato! Overally, it's a good piece from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requium. THIS CD IS AMAZING! If you love Sarah from the Phantom of the Opera, then this collection of Lloyd Webber's work is just for you.

I also recommend Charlotte Church - (in her earlier career) - including Voice of an Angel and her self-titled album. I also recommend Love Changes Everything - The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection Vol.2 - just another grouping of Webber's classics. I also recommend Andrea Boucelli - he's awesome!

5 out of 5 stars The Angel of Music.......2006-03-13

This is the third copy of this I've purchased. I wear them out listening to them. Awesome, Awesome music. Sarah's range and depth is so powerful!

Overall this wasn't a bad album but I expected better. T.I. is a great artist and his previous 3 albums are dope as ever but this is his first effort that I was disapointed with. The album is mixed with great and average tracks. I've still got faith in T.I.P. though. Maybe next years T.I. vs. T.I.P. will bring back his creditability after this fairly disapointing effort.

AYAYAY!!!

4 out of 5 stars King of the South? Maybe.......2006-08-20

T.I.'s latest release, King, is excellent, his best so far. A few songs aside, this album is great, with smooth flows, solid guest appearences and nice beats. Although the album starts off better than it finishes, although the quality songs are somewhat evenly distributed throughout the album.

The first real song is "Front Back", featuring solid verses from both members of UGK (Bun B and Pimp C). However, the best song on the album follows, in the form of "What You Know". With a menacing beat and background and silky smooth raps and hooks, this one definitely needs to be considered for the year's best. "I'm Talkin' to You" is a nice call-out-the-haters track, with him going into a Twista-like frensy about two thirds of the way through the song. "Live in the Sky", a solid introspective cut featuring Jamie Foxx follows, with the bouncy "Ride wit Me" after that.

The album then hits a bit of a funk, with the annoying "Why You Wanna". Despite chart success, I still haven't managed to like this one. "Get It" is very overproduced and hyper, and "Top Back" is boring. However, next comes the excellent "I'm Straight" featuring B.G. and Young Jeezy. "Stand Up Guy" is average, but the next track "Goodlife" featuring Common and Pharrell is melodic and nice to listen to. After the non-descript "Hello" and "Told You So" comes "Bankhead", with posse P$C and Young Dro, a smooth way to end the album.

Overall, this is a well-rounded album that can be appreciated even if you're a first time T.I. listener.

T.i is living proof that there is some good rappers out of the south. I liked Im serious, Trap Musik and Urban Legend but this album is kind of pale in comparison to Urban Legend. Standout tracks: WHAT YOU KNOW, IM TALKING TO YOU, GET IT, IM STRAIGHT, KING BACK, GOOD LIFE, YOU KNOW WHO, RIDE WIT ME etc. Filler: Hello is an awful joint that should've been dumped with the quickness, the undertaker is boring, Front/Back is not better than the original track, Top back could've been a classic if it wasnt for the awful beat provided by Mannie Fresh and the skits with Mike Epps are stupid beyond belief. Even with these flaws its still a better album than the P$C album and the other so-called album where a certain weasel(guess who) freestyled through the whole thing and called it an album!

5 out of 5 stars T.I - FANTASTIC!!!!.......2006-07-29
