Editorial Reviews

From the Label
In this recording the spoken word refers to a legend in which it is suggested that the term "pow wow" was derived from the name of an Algonquin dancer. Others believe that the derivation was from an Algonquin expression that refers to a gathering or meeting of leaders. Regardless of the origin of the name, the pow wow is an important part of Indian life and the source of the inspiration for this recording. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars Windtamer.......2000-08-03

I am a Native American Flute Music enthusiest from Federalsburg, MD and I love this CD. I first learned of Jeff Ball through Trailhead Flutes. I purchased several of his tapes and CD's from his previous label. These tapes were to assist me in learning to play the flute. Since that time I have met and talked with Jeff Ball and Dr Red Hawk, who is featured on this album, at the Damascus, VA pow-wow last year. Knowing the person and listening to his music makes the difference in your perception of the music . I have an insight to the person, and the spirit of Jeff Ball is in his music. I would suggest to any Native American music listener to add this CD to his collection. If you have never experienced the sounds of Native American flute music, this CD is the one to start with.

This is an excellent selection if you like Native American music and legend and the cedar flute. Jeff's performance is excellent, as usual. Although I enjoyed the spoken words, they detracted from the music in some places. I didn't like this CD as much as Reverence because I like the flute to be uninterrupted. It is, however, an excellent piece of work and would be a nice addition to any collection.
