Spiritual Music indeed..........2007-01-10
Wonderful music.......2005-12-25
As I listen to this CD more and more --- Oh! How it grows on you!. The Dhrupad is magnificient -- the "Ektal" has such grand rendition, it seems out of the world! When you'll hear the Tarana in Mian ki Malhar, don't loose yourself dancing in the pitter patter of the rain--for along comes the thunder "Kat dham! Tum tirakata! .." -- a beautiful song really. The Tarana in Bhupali takes you around for a spin -- I mean literally! I adore all the taranas on this one. Really nice.
Brilliant Mistake.......2004-07-17
This truly is beautiful music; despite what these very picky purists feel about it. I have always thought Asha's voice was great and she keeps that up on this release. There is not much in terms of improv for Ali Akbar Khan, as he is mostly keeping as accompanyment to the vocal but it is a great combination; especially when things speed up. The instrumentation, mixing, and everything about the production of this CD is perfect; no complaints. I say that being a former record production major with my very scrutinizing ears.
The highlights of this cd (for me at least) are Chaudhury's tabla playing, and the way the cello compliments this style of music so beautifully.
If you are an STRICT purist for north Indian classical music this might not be for you, however, if you are a bit more open-minded about your music and would just like to hear some wonderfully asthetic and deep sounds then I would highly reccomend this.
Not for core classical souls.......2004-07-13
